Marion didn’t really think that the situation that she was currently in was fair. After all, she hadn’t been the only one to be in on it! Sure, she had participated, but to be the only one put in detention, it just wasn’t right! She could feel herself growling, which was really something that she needed to grow out of, but she couldn’t help it. She was wanting to make some sort of noise. To yell or scream and say, “It’s not fair!”, to explain herself, SOMETHING! But no, instead she had to sit there quietly, in detention. Sure, she could do her homework while she was there, but she was still feeling pretty steamed and was unable to concentrate on it, to the point where she was sure she would rip up the worksheets out of frustration if she were to get them out at this moment.
Currently she was in detention, with a few others, ranging to some Freshlings and going up to a lot more Seniors. The reason why she was in detention? Playing freeze tag. Freeze tag was allowed during recess, and she had been playing like she was supposed to, freezing in place when she was tagged and running away when she was “unfrozen”. Unfortunately, one of the other Freshlings had started to cry when they weren’t being “unfrozen” by anyone else. But no one else could “unfreeze” them in the first place! They were in too tight of a spot, and while some of them had been trying to lure the taggers away from that particular Freshling, one of them always made sure to guard them!
And then of course the crying was brought to one of the teacher’s attention, they had all started arguing, but the “frozen” one had put the blame solely on Marion since she was a mutant and had been running around the most, totally “ignoring” the other Freshling in their time of need. Of course, that wasn’t what had really happened. Marion, as a Sluagh, even a mutant one, was quite quick and she had been trying to lure the other taggers away and keep their attention. Unfortunately, this meant that the one Freshling had been seeing her quite a bit and had apparently interpreted her going close and then running away as purposefully ignoring the Freshling and well, here she was in detention now.
It just wasn’t fair! And of course, the teacher’s hadn’t even tried to listen to her explanation and none of her “friends” even tried to back her up, instead choosing to stay quiet as all of the blame was laid out on her and she was now serving in-school detention and was given extra homework because of the situation.
She had cried when she had been told of her punishments, trying to tell the teachers what had really gone on, but it was to no avail. They refused. And it was the first time that she really realized that some teachers just didn’t care about fairness or the truth, just about how to get the job done more quickly so that they wouldn’t have to deal with actually thinking about things.
And so, here she was in detention for something that wasn’t even her fault. And all she could do was either stare at the wall or do her homework, and then stare at the wall. Books weren’t allowed in detention, or at least in-school detention, and she didn’t have enough homework to get her through the rest of the time.
And now she was just so angry that she couldn’t even think straight. How dare her so called “friends” do that to her?! Why had they decided to be so mean and let her get all of the punishment. She decided that after this detention was over, that she wouldn’t be speaking to any of them again. And for the classes that she took with the teacher who had punished her, all of her respect for them was gone. She would no longer trust that teacher either. After all, if the teacher was too lazy to figure this situation out, what would happen if it was something more serious? Like a fight in class?
She took a few deep breaths, and made sure to count to ten, and let out a big sigh, and finally she felt like she could work on her homework without ripping the paper into a tiny million pieces. But, just as she had gotten part of her homework out, she was called to the front of the room, and told to go outside in the hallway to talk to someone. It took all of her willpower not to scream since she had just tried to start on her homework but did as she was told.
Outside of the detention room, there was the teacher and the student who had gotten her into this mess in the first place. Marion was afraid that she was going to be lectured and get into even worse trouble, when the teacher, with a look of annoyance on her face, told Marion that the other Freshling had told her what had really happened after she had calmed down and had wanted to say sorry to Marion. The Freshling then did say sorry, and all Marion could say was “Okay.” Both the teacher and the student were annoyed at Marion, but she couldn’t forgive the other student just yet! They had really hurt her! And they had shown her what her friends truly thought of her! That wouldn’t be forgiven so easily just by someone saying “sorry!” The teacher sighed once again and told Marion that she could go back into the detention room, and Marion was only happy to, figuring that the teacher was forcing her to stay in detention because the two Freshlings hadn’t immediately made up and that meant that the teacher would have to be dealing with more Freshling “drama”. Still, Marion did feel a bit better that the other student had said sorry, but it was going to take a while before Marion could talk to the other one again without getting mad.
