The sun was slowly disappearing from the sky; sinking away from the horizon. It was early evening now. Noelle had stayed for after-school activities, and then gone out shopping with her friends. She hadn’t realized just how late it was getting. Now the sky was gradually growing dark. As grey clouds rumbled their way into the city, occasionally a flash of lightning would light up the sky. It was so bright that for a split second it was almost bright enough to be the middle of the day. Noelle groaned in the realization that she was going to get soaked. “Shoot! I forgot my umbrella!”
She grumbled in dismay. Hugging her shopping bag to her chest, she quickly ducked into a nearby bus stop along the perimeter of one of the many town parks, and flopped down on the seat. She was expecting an immediate downpour. She waited and waited. But it didn’t come.

Pyper gasped for air as she ran, faster and faster. She wasn’t entirely sure she was heading in the right direction. But if that youma she saw was heading toward town, who knew what it would do to the citizens! So she hurried along, as fast as her little paws could carry her. A crack of thunder followed by another flash of lightning sent a shiver up the mauvian’s spine. Shadows flickered around her, as she passed by various shops, and crowds of unsuspecting people. Everyone was carrying on about their business as usual. No signs of a horrible monster anywhere yet. Part of her was relieved. Maybe, just maybe it had been defeated by someone else. She prayed that was the case. Then she wouldn’t have to deal with it. Her thoughts were cut off as she stopped in front of a park. It was quiet here. Almost too quiet. Where had all the people gone? She nervously glanced around.

“Weird…” Noelle murmured, holding her hand out from under the overhang. “It’s just sprinkles. Oh well! I gotta get home before it really starts raining. Nanny is gonna kill me!” She darted back out into the open just as a large shadow swooped over her head. “What...was that?!”
’It was too big to be a bird,’ she thought to herself. But she could hear the beating of large wings.
When she turned and looked over she starred in terror at the giant moth creature that was hovering just above a nearby lamp post. The bug stopped, easing itself into landing on the light. The lamp creaked and groaned under the creature’s weight. There was a sudden snap and the post broke in half, sending live wires crackling and sparking across the ground.
Noelle wanted to scream, but she could not find her voice. She simply froze in place like a deer in headlights.
The moth was already back in the air, it’s attention now focused on the tasty looking little girl in front of it. It could sense a star seed, and it wanted nothing more than to remove it from that pesky human shell that housed it.
It beat its wings and a powder began to fall, almost like snow.

Pyper could sense it! “It’s nearby!” she whispered, biting her lip. “What do I do?” She peeked around the corner and there it was! And it was eyeing a young girl! “I have to help!”
As she ran towards Noelle she screamed, “Close your eyes! Don’t let that stuff get in your eeeeyes!”
Noelle suddenly heard a voice from behind her, ordering her to close her eyes. She immediately complied. She wasn’t sure why, but something about the voice she found reassuring and trustworthy. Not only that, but she secretly hoped if she closed her eyes, that the monster might just disappear. Maybe it was all a dream. That could be right?
Pyper jumped over Noelle using her like a spring board. With her eyes closed, she used all her strength and headbutted the moth. She made contact, and then kept running. All the while she kept hollering insults and antagonizing the youma in hopes that it would leave the girl and chase her instead. And she was in luck! The youma was irritated by this meddlesome cat! It turned immediately to follow, Pyper. As the cat could sense she was now far enough away, she opened her eyes and looked back. The youma was still there. It couldn’t move as quickly as her. “Thank goodness! Now to hightail it out of here!” She gave a final glance back before running off again with the youma following behind.

Silence. All was quiet. “Is it.. Okay to open my eyes now?” But there was no answer. Noelle wiped off her face and slowly peeked around. Nobody was there. She squinted. In the very far distance she could see something. “Is that… that thing? It’s chasing something!”
A smaller shadow was running along ahead of it at a breakneck pace.
Something stirred inside Noelle. She felt an unexplainable urge to chase after them. What if the little shadow needed help! She wasn’t sure what was going on, but she wanted to be of assistance. That small shadow was being attacked by that moth monster after all! She couldn’t just sit by and do nothing! So she took off after it. She wasn’t sure what she was going to do when she got there! But it was better than standing around here doing nothing!
Pyper was growing tired. She had to stop. She was out of breath. But ‘mothra’ was gaining on her. “That stupid thing. Why doesn’t it give uuup,” she groaned. She finally collapsed in an alley. It was a dead end. She had nowhere else to go. The mouth landed behind her, slowly creeping forward. And then a voice rang out!
“Stop! You can’t-” Noelle huffed and puffed. She was definitely winded. Her eyes grew wide when she saw what the creature was chasing. “A cat?” She blinked. “Leave it alone! You can’t eat it! Go away!” she hollered angrily.

Pyper looked up. A savior? It was that girl! “What is she doing here?” the cat whispered aloud. But looking at Noelle, something dawned on the cat. “Could she be?....” She hadn’t noticed before. It had all happened too quickly. But now she could see it. This child was...a senshi!
The moth screeched at Noelle, a high-pitched, angry sound.
An opportunity! Pyper was back on her feet. “Here!” she hollered, kicking something across the pavement towards Noelle.
Noelle starred, her mouth gaping. “You talked! I mean spoke---errr.”
Pyper face-palmed. “Your poor grammar aside, pick that uuuup!”
Noelle looked down at her feet and quickly picked up the object. It looked like a simple pen with a strange symbol on it. As she held it, she began to glow. A power like nothing she’d ever felt flowed through her.

“Say the words!”
“Abeosamu Power Make-Up!” She was surrounded by ribbons of magic. Her clothes began to change, as she twirled in the air.
She posed. “I’m Sailor Abeosamu, the chibi senshi of penguins! Leeet’s march!”
Pyper clapped her paws together. “Purrrfect! Now let’s-” but she was cut off.
A loud thunderous boom filled the air, and a cascade of water came pouring from the heavens above. It was like the sky was crying! They were all soaked, including the moth. It tried to flap its heavy wings, but it wasn’t going anywhere. It gurgled and groaned in anger.
“Wow, we couldn’t have asked for a better situation! Let’s finish it off!” Pyper continued. “Use an attack!”

“Umm. Okay, I’ll try!” Abeosamu gave a nod, and with a great determination called upon her powers. “Penguin slide!” Energy in the form of a penguin slide across the ground, heading right for mothra. And in a burst of colorful smoke, the youma dissipated.
“You did iiit!” Pyper cheered, leaping up an attaching herself to Abeosamu’s face. “You did it! You did it! You did it!”
A muffled laugh from the senshi could be heard through Pyper’s fur. “Get off,” she chuckled.
“I chose wisely,” Pyper grinned, quite proud of herself.
“Chose what?”
“You obviously.”
Abeosamu didn’t quite understand. Nothing was really making sense. But she felt she had made a bond.
This would be the beginnings of a great friendship; a great friendship indeed.
