Quote: Destiny City is passing out 'Wishmaker' Buttons; there are many local charities that have set up booths. If you have a passion for change, all you have to do is keep your eyes peeled and you're guaranteed to find someone raising money for a cause near to your heart. In return for donations, a character will receive a 'Wishmaker' button. There doesn't seem to be anything particularly magical about the button--but the moment it's attached to your shirt things suddenly take a turn for the best. You notice, for the rest of the day, everything seems to be going your way. You might not win the lottery, but maybe you got a call you were waiting for, an opportunity fell in your lap, or maybe things just seem to finally be lining up. The magic only lasts for one day, so you'd better make the best of it! Kelly was honestly enjoying this Star Festival. It was really fun, and the whole concept of celebrating the city was cute. Not that she really even liked the city all that much…but when everything was decorated with stars and it all seemed to glitter…well. She couldn’t quite dislike it as much as she had before.
As she had been out, she had seen more and more people with terrible cute buttons on, and after working up the nerve to ask one smiling man where he had gotten his, she hurried off to the small huddle of charity booths.
Her pale eyes gazed around at the various organizations that she could donate to, but when she saw the one for homelessness, it touched a nerve within her. How long had her brother been living in his car? And even now he would still be living there if she hadn’t been kicked out of the house to. Quietly she walked up to the booth and slid her twenty dollar bill into the donation bucket and was pleased to be given one of the shining buttons as well as a very cute blue star charm which she looked at for a moment before slipping it into her pocket.
Was it worth the twenty dollars? No, but if that money meant someone who didn’t have a home got to eat…then it was honestly more than worth it. Proudly, she pinned the badge to her shirt front and paused, feeling happy.
For a wonderful moment, it felt as though she could do practically anything, and with a grin, she set off.
She wasn’t quite sure where she was going, but she figured she’d know it when she got there. Her eyes glanced down at the sidewalk just before she went to cross the street and she saw a small bill, folded up to look like an origami star.
It was a twenty dollar bill, and suddenly, her donation didn’t seem wasteful at all. With another, happy grin, Kelly hurried over the crosswalk and made her way to the bookstore, fully intending to get herself something cute. Because damn if she didn’t deserve it.
Her first stop inside was the large collection of stuffed toys, and she picked up a soft looking lamb, and a fat, grey cat who she recognized from the internet. Quietly she looked between them both and then glanced around, spotting a very cute looking girl who was wearing purple. She liked purple. “Excuse me…which one do you think I should get? I’ve decided that…this is a treat myself day, because I deserve it. And I can’t decide.”
Kelly was kind of leaning towards the cat but…only so she could wrap a ribbon around its neck and put the star charm on it…though she supposed that could be done with the lamb too…

It was, in Blair's estimation, a pretty good day. The Star Festival was fun, she'd gotten to donate to a cause she cared about (a youth theater group for disprivileged kids, because elitism is stupid and art, in Blair's opinion, should be for everyone) and gotten a cute button and a little purple star charm out of it. She twisted the charm up in her ponytail, a little decoration on the ribbon, and kept walking.
Honestly, she could have wandered forever, but she stopped when she saw the bookshop. She tapped a finger against her chin, and considered for a moment. Sure, Alistair's birthday wasn't for a few months, but it was always good to be prepared, and finding her brother some cool book was always a good way to make him happy. So, she ducked inside. Her intent was to head towards the dramas, see what they had, maybe find something interesting or obscure.
It felt like a perfect twist of fate, to find a collected works of Christopher Marlowe--Alistair would love it. and it was firmly within the range Blair could afford, without having to worry too much.
It seemed only right,t hen, to stop and check out the stuffed animals, because as a reward for a perfectly-chosen gift for her brother, Blair definitely felt like she could, and should, pick one out for herself.
She didn't notice anyone else examining the display until a voice caught her attention, and she turned, and.
Oh. Pretty girl. Very pretty girl. Asking for Blair's opinion. Alright, time to be cool, and smooth, and charming. Or just...not an idiot.
"Oh, uh! You're cute! I mean, um. They're cute. They're both cute. Either would be a great choice. Hi."
Alright, well, that wasn't exactly the smoothest, but Blair was pretty sure she could recover. Probably.

Kelly paused, giving a suddenly shy smile and trying to hide the faint flush that went over her cheeks. She had just been called cute by a perfect stranger and…well. It felt nice. “Oh…well, I think they’re both cute too, I think…I might go with the sheep though, now that I’m looking at them again…”
She kept her eyes down, looking at the stuffed toys rather than the girl and finally put the cat back onto the rack, drawing the sheep more securely into her arms.
“I’m Kelly, by the way…what…are you looking for? Something cute too?” Quickly she moved to another rack and pulled out a sheep that matched the one that she was carrying, only with a different color bow around both ears instead of just the one as Kelly’s was.
“Because…this one looks cute…and I’m sure that they could be friends. Mine and yours…even though…I feel more than a little silly even talking about this.” Her cheeks were still pink and she held the sheep out, half hoping that the brunette would take it.

Okay, okay. Blair had not completely failed step one by being a disaster idiot. She'd even made the cute girl blush, a little! Good job, Blair, nice work.
"I think the sheep suits you really nicely," Blair said, and she reached up to tuck a loose piece of hair behind her ear, doing her best sweet-but-flirty smile. At least, she hoped that was how it came off, and not like an awkward dumbass. "I'm Blair. It's nice to meet you, Kelly. And...yeah, I was definitely looking for something cute, and I think I found it."
Very good. Very smooth.
And then Kelly offered her the plus sheep, and Blair's whole face lit up like she was twelve again and it was Christmas morning.
"Oh my gosh! Yes, she's adorable!" She reached out and took the sheep, and hugged it close. "I definitely think yours and mine can be friends. Especially if you and me can, too?"

Kelly felt a thrill of excitement when the girl took the sheep she offered, and felt herself breaking into a smile that almost hurt. After a moment she nodded. “Yeah! I figured that you would…” Her mind tried to process the words and quickly shoved whatever conclusion she had come to into the garbage bin that was tucked away in her brain.
“I’m so glad you like her! I would…love if they were friends…and if we could be friends to that would be…that would be the best.” Though…how long would it be before this girl left her too? She couldn’t seem to keep friends for very long, and it was obviously her issue and not theirs…or else it would have only happened the one time but…
But it had to be her fault. It just had to.
“Do…you want to maybe grab a drink at the café now that we’ve…picked out some friends? They have a blueberry lemonade that I’m kind of dying to try but…” Kelly shrugged. “It’s…kind of awkward sitting in a bookstore café alone…you know?” The smile that was on her face now was shy, and a little reserved but so very hopeful. “And…maybe I could have your phone number so we can really be friends…?”

Blair couldn't help the delighted grin on her face. This felt like such a perfectly lucky coincidence, running into a pretty girl with a nice smile who seemed incredibly sweet. Maybe there was something to be said for supposed silliness about what goes around coming around. She'd done something nice earlier, and now something nice was happening to her.
"Sure, I'd love to! Sitting in a café alone sucks, unless you have a laptop or something, and even then, it's always best with friends." She glanced down at the plush in her arms. "Let's go pay for these cuties, and then we can get to know each other for a little while?" Because Blair definitely wanted to know everything there was to know about Kelly.

Kelly nodded, giving a soft, shy smile. “That sounds good to me, Blair. I’m really…happy to have gotten to meet you, I don’t…I mean.” She broke off, not wanting to scare her new friend away. Obviously she wouldn’t last long…because obviously Kelly was cursed but…she would be a good friend while she lasted, hopefully.
“I love making new friends…it’s been a while since I found one who seems as nice as you…and you know. Who’s a girl. I keep making friends who are boys lately!”
And getting horrible crushes on them…and driving them all away.
“But! That’s…dumb. So, to the checkout counter! And the café!”
And…to whatever else the future brought with it.
