Character Sheets
Because we use a stat based support system in this guild, Character sheets are created by you and then mailed to the Guild Arbiter for posting. This is to avoid editing of the character sheet to give yourself an up during battles against particular people.
Stats and your Characters
stats serve as a sort of guideline to who your character is and what he can and cannot do! It is impossible to run around the world in .2 seconds if your speed is 1! Similarly, someone with a low mental defence may be easily offended or be prone to going berserk. Someone with very low strength may need to solve his problems through cunning or tools. You are free to make up for the difference however you please, as long as you hold to the fairly loose indicator your stat is. We trust people to be reasonable within their constraints. In case a person -is- doing things that seem unlikely however, the guild arbiter may be asked to step in and if in agreement request you correct yourself.
Rolling
In this guild, we use a system where players can call rolls. These rolls are bound to stats in the character sheets. For this we use the roll dice function on posts, if you need to roll, you may first post the text “hold” with a roll (1 six sided die), after seeing what you have rolled, you may edit the post to match what you have rolled.
Rolls are explained in the character creation section, but Rolls and guards will also be explained here:
Say, for example: in a fight, player A thinks player B is dodging too much, he may roll a D6 to parse against the opponent's speed. State in the post what the roll is for though!
Player A has 3 speed
Player B has 5 speed
The roller gets ½ (rounded down!) their speed score as a bonus to their roll. This is an initiative bonus.
To succeed a roll must be higher than or equal to the opponent's stat.
Player A gets 1 bonus point to speed, so he needs to roll 4 or more to be able to hit his opponent!
To force a player to roll on their next post, simply put an ooc mark under your post, stating who must roll and what stat. i.e.
[Chronus, Roll Speed]
Asking they roll on 2 stats is also possible, the forums show dice values individually, so asking, for instance:
[Chronus, Roll Speed, roll defence]
will require Chronus to roll 2 6 sided dice, the first number will be for speed, the second for defence.
Guarding
You may also “guard” on a stat, giving you ½ that stat rounded down as a bonus to your stat if you expect a roll will be called within 3 moves. i.e. you can guard on mental defence if you expect someone will cast an illusion on you to increase your chances of blocking said illusion, even if the caster calls for a roll. After you drop the guard, you may not engage it again during that battle. Out of battle, you may call guard as many times as you wish.
Player A has 3 charisma
Player B has 5 mental defence
Player B blocks, making their effective mental defence 7 for 3 turns
Player A can therefore only succeed if he rolls a 6
To indicate you are guarding on a stat (mental defence, defence and speed only) put at the tope of your post that you are guarding, what stat, and how many turns, i.e. [guard, defence, 2]
Rules of writing
It's probably common sense to say god modding is not okay.
You may discuss in Private messages if you feel your post would flow better if you did take limited control over the other character, and the other person involved should definitely agree to what you are about to do before posting!
That said, there may also be times when you feel you should elaborate the consequences of failing to dodge an attack or something similar, simply put: don't. You may of course elaborate that it feels as if the sky grows heavy or the earth begins to tremble or shatter, but if john doesn't dodge your ability to age him into an old man in an instant (probably indicated by plants and animals around dying or some such) then John is an old man if he doesn't dodge. You don't need to warn that fire will burn. In battles, we recommend shorter posts adhering to something like this.
Player A: attack
Player B: get hit (add to what degree!)
Player A: consequence
Player B: attack
Player A: dodge
Player B: attack
Player A: Parry (may also admit to minor damage)
Player B: dodge (if above admitted to minor damage, state what)
This will still alternate turns between attacking and defending, as well as introduce a cost for playing defensively. It will keep battles interesting because unless you are familiar with your opponents, you are not sure what may happen. We do also recommend that people do not use one-shot skills unless agreed to by both sides.
Death
We handle death quite simply: You are dead unless you get resurrected. There will be a few spirit worlds where you can continue to roleplay if not alive, and people with certain abilities (certainly Deities!) may be able to bring you back to life.
Word limits
Though we all love long, well-written posts, there are times where it is just not reasonable to hit 600 words to explain simple things. Write well when you can, write as much is reasonable when you can't. That said; it is hard to reply lengthily to someone that just posts “stares” as his entire move, so do put in details such as what you are staring at, body language or if not established, external things like the weather.
