It had been a while since Liryn had turned his attention to his little flashlight project, but the small tabby bobtail mauvian hadn't forgotten about it - because whilst the app functioned well enough by lighting up the senshi phone screen, it hadn't quite been what he'd intended–
In fact he hadn't intended it at all.
Instead the plan had been for the flashlight light to project from the camera as a (at least to him) proper flashlight beam, but whilst he had spent time trying to tweak it on and off, Liryn still hadn't been able to make the light beam out from the camera.
So, he had called in the big guns so to speak and had finally called up Ash, because Liryn knew that the silver-furred burmilla was the queen of all things tech.
HQ had seemed like the logical place for them to meet up, which was how Liryn came to be there, absently looking through the database whilst he waited for Ash to arrive.
He paused absently on the connections app, since that particular one appeared to be a new one, at least since the last time that he'd looked through the apps, but whilst it merited a proper look-through at some point, it was one that was going to have to wait - because this time round trying to finally sort out his little flashlight app took priority.xxxWhimsical Blue Hope this works as a start Blue <3 Lmk if I need to tweak anything

Ash sauntered through the doorway of HQ with her tail high and her steps light. The moment she was within the boundary of the shielding, she sighed softly and let her form change... sparkles trailed behind her as she now padded barefoot down the corridor to the main room, fingers running through the long tails of her hair to set the (already immaculate) strands to perfect order. Even the loops got a fluff they didn't need, out of habit. The transformation always left her without a hair out of place, but with so much time spent as a cat, it just felt nice to have fingers and hair.
The light warmth of another mauvian signature made her ears perk up and she picked up her steps as excitement bubbled up. That was likely Liryn, and he'd said he had some tech he wanted her help with. What could be more wonderful? She hoped it was a really, truly juicy problem, the kind she could really dig into... it felt like forever since she'd had something to work on, and she needed as much distraction now as she could get.
"Liryn?" She called, scanning the rows of computers and the chairs set up before them. "I'm sorry if I kept you waiting, Darling, it was a bit of a trek across town."

It had made sense to have his research to hand and so, at some point during his wait for Ash, Liryn had first fetched and then spread out all of the pieces of photocopied information that he'd badgered Arian into making for him at the start when he'd first come up with his little app project, absently pressing paws to paper as purplish eyes glanced through the information before carefully nudging said sheet of paper to the side–
And whilst it was by far from the first time that he had done so - as evidenced by how worn some of the sheets of paper were and by the messy scriblings that were courtesy of him making notes whilst in the other form - there was always the chance that he may have missed something.
In fact given the fact that his flashlight app still wasn't causing the light to 'beam' in the way that he'd been planning it to do, he was most certainly missing something.
He had been onto his third sheet of paper, when first aura and then voice - and a familiar voice at that - alerted him to the fact that he was no longer alone at HQ.
"Hey Ash" he said cheerfully from where he sat, purplish eyes shifting in the blue-haired mauvian's direction as she approached the computer that he had chosen.
"It's okay, I know that paw travel isn't as convenient as foot travel."
It was in fact terribly inconvenient in some ways, although it made up for it in ways such as getting up into high places or small places or places that seemed interesting but would be inconvenient to get to using the larger size of the other form–
And there was also the aura issue.
"Thanks for coming Ash. I was wondering if you'd mind taking a look at my little torch app" a feline huff as he admitted "It works - well sort of - but I can't seem to get it to beam properly."

Her steps bounced as she grabbed another chair and settled into it, tucking her legs up under her so she sat on her bare feet.
The papers he spread out got a look from her, and if she'd been less polite, she might have sniffed pointedly at it. Who used paper for anything these days? It was the digital age! But if it was more comfortable for Liryn to work that way, she was certainly not going to say anything about it. He was quite a lovely person, after all, and it would be rude.
"Someday I'm going to make a teleporter and then I'll never need to walk again." She said breezily, waving a hand lazily. She had no idea how she'd go about it, but the burmilla felt confident she could figure it out. With enough time.
"I would be delighted, at this time however, to look over your useful little app. You're having trouble with where the light is coming out?" She asked as she leaned forward, bracing her hands on her seat between her knees. The pages had a lot of information and it was spread quite wide... she got a sense of what he was trying to do with it, but on paper she struggled to really visualize it.
"Hmm... Well, why don't we take a look at the app itself?" She said as she flourished a hand. A phone popped out of the air and fell into her palm, all slick and new... and boring without the personal touch of being owned by someone. Ash hummed as she tapped the screen open and downloaded the app he had added to the computers, her lips pursed at the few seconds it took to set up. Finally, she activated the app itself and squinted as the screen lit up... straight into her eyes. Turning it away, she eyed it down her short nose, eyebrows raised. "I assume that's not what you wanted it to do, so... you want it to come out of the back?"
She turned the phone to eyed the back of it, before flipping it back over to turn the light off.
"We'll need to make sure there is the proper hardware before we start... there will need to be a light to control, and then we can fiddle around with the code to make sure it has the right access to turn it off and on."

Whilst Liryn quite liked wandering around under the power of his own paws or - at least in the case of the other form - feet, he couldn't deny that the whole idea of a teleporter sounded pretty neat–
And, well, it wasn't as if teleportation wasn't a thing - after all the Negaverse had agents who could teleport.
"I appreciate it," Liryn said when Ash agreed to look over his app, admitting "It's my first real piece of coding."
It was something that probably showed too, in the form of how clunky the coding was, although given that he had used the information from the 'how to' guides that he had worked through as a base it was perhaps hardly surprising.
He flicked his ears and absently nudged aside a few sheets of said research as Ash downloaded the app onto a phone and opened it up.
"Yes" he admitted, "That's exactly the problem - I meant for the light to come out the back like a torch - but I messed up somewhere and it ended up well like that."

Ash pursed her lips thoughtfully as she set the phone down on the arm of the chair, crossing her legs under her.
A hologram sprang to life between them, large and glowing and curved, as she tapped the control on the side of her visor. It projected the screen outwards for Liryn to share, and a keyboard appeared before her, in easy reach of her hands. Delicate fingers darted over the glowing keys, and she pulled up the code the other Mauvian had added to the phone database, the one that controlled the apps the senshi had access to.
It was a bit clunky... Ash immediately saw a number of expressions that could have been combined, or commands that were redundant because of other lines, and a general lack of sleekness that she liked to think her own code had. Granted, she thought that about anyone's code that wasn't hers, of course... and again she did not mention her thoughts about it as she scrolled through it, puzzling out what everything did.
The code on the screen scrolled up and down as she moved it, and then she sat up straight, pointing to a bit she had come across.
"I think this might be one of the problems..." She said. How best to phrase this... Liryn was such a dear, really. He had made wonderful progress on learning how to do all this tinkering, and she felt a nostalgic fondness. She had had to learn too... and if she could help him progress, then Ash found she genuinely wanted to do so.
Slowly, trying to figure out how best to go about it, Ash explained the way the screen and the light and the various components were connected, and the logic it took to specify the different parts.
"You certainly did not truly do anything wrong, but I think if we neatened things up a bit like this..." She showed him lines he could combine, commands that he didn't really need. "These might be interfering with what you want to do... so I'd suggest rewriting this bit like this..."
It felt good, doing this... she so rarely got to really flex her tech-y muscles with someone, at least in person. It was nice, to share it.
"Does that make sense?" Ash asked as she glanced down at Liryn, her tail tip flicking as it hung over the back of the seat.

A thoughtful look of his own flickered through Liryn's eyes as Ash took the time to go through the code that he had added to the database, his purplish eyes staring at the holographic screen unblinkingly as the code on the screen scrolled first upwards and then down.
He listened carefully as she took the time to explain how the different components interlinked and therefore interacted with each other, ears flickering absently as he took in and made a note of all the information.
"That does make sense" he said brightly, because it made a lot more sense than how some of the 'how to' books had put it–
Although that may have had more to do with the way that he had had to adapt it towards what he'd been doing - or at least trying to do.
"Thanks Ash" he grinned, purplish eyes bright and then paused as a sudden thought occurred to him.
After all, whilst he wanted to fix the flashlight so that it acted like a 'proper' flashlight, the app had been out for a while–
Which meant that maybe some of the senshi were used to the light coming out from the screen.
"By the way, if I wanted to modify the app to give senshi the choice of where the light came from what would I have to do?"
He considered what she had told him previously about the various components "I mean my preference is for the light to come out of the back..." Because that was what he had been aiming for and had spent so long trying - albeit successfully - to get the app to do "But some senshi might be used to having it come out of the front and I guess that they should have the choice - at least if it's something that can be done?"
Because he couldn't remember if he'd come across flashlight apps having two modes when he'd been working on his research. Whimsical Blue Apologies that this has taken me so long Blue

The humanoid cat rested her chin in her hand, her elbow on her kneed, and tapped it with her fingertips in thought.
"I suppose that's not too different from the way smart phone cameras let you flip which camera the view is coming from. We could do something similar? You'd have to add a button to the interface that toggles the light, and you'd need to add a line so that they phone remembered the change and stayed that way next time the app was loaded. It would be annoying, if you wanted it one way, for it to always load up the other way."
She flicked her holographic keyboard and it spun around, sensing her gestures rather than actually reacting to her touch. Ash presented it to the other cat, waving a free hand at the hologram screen.
"Go ahead and make those changes, Darling. Its your app so I suppose you should do the work, unless you want me to, which I can. I can watch and give suggestions as you work, if you like. I don't think it'll be too hard, its just going to be a little bit of dedicated work." She smiled in self-satisfaction. "I do so love that sort of thing... digging into a meaty bit of code."

Liryn nodded at Ash's suggestion, because whilst it wasn't something that he'd have thought up, it made sense to treat the potential 2 flashlight app modes somewhat similar to the way that smart phones let users toggle between the front facing and back facing cameras.
"I think I can do it" he said at her query about whether he wanted her to make the changes to the app - and more to the point Liryn wanted to be the one to make the changes. He grinned cheerfully as she presented the holographic keyboard to him "But I'd appreciate any feedback."
Despite his enthusiam, however, it had taken a while - certainly longer than if Ash herself had made the changes - but in the end Liryn was sure that he'd made the changes needed–
Well at least he was relatively sure - although the app would need a final test before relatively sure became 'certain'.
Liryn added in the last of the code "Ok I think I'm done."
This was it - the moment of truth.

She watched with rapt attention as the other cat wrote his code. It was an effort not to reach out to 'help', her fingers itching with the impulse to just... write a few lines, or fix something he did in the name of being faster or more efficient... but this was Liryn's project, his baby, so to speak. As much as she knew she could have done it faster, and arguable better, in her mind, she had to let him do it himself.
She did point out mistakes and things that would cause unintentional bugs, but by the time he finished, she was ready to sigh with relief and mentally pat herself on the back for her incredible restraint.
"Oh wonderful!" She said as she clapped her hands together. As she drew them apart, a new, blank senshi phone dropped out of the air and fell into her palm. Spinning the keyboard around with a twirl of her fingers, she hit a few keys and the new phone binged cheerfully.
"Here you are! Go ahead and download the update I sent to the phone, and give your new app a try." Ash said as she offered it to the other cat, her tail flicking happily behind her as she grinned.

Liryn couldn't help but be excited as he took the offered phone and downloaded the update that Ash had sent and it probably showed as he waited for the update to first download and then install given that he wasn't particularly trying to hide said excitement.
Eventually, however, he was able to press the purple icon with the black flashlight symbol to open up the newly updated app which brought up a selection mode with the 2 different flashlight modes.
And he probably should had selected and tested "mode 1" first. Should have - but he had left mode 1 as the mode where it was the phone screen that lit up and Liryn really, really wanted to see the flashlight come out of the back of the phone as he had spent so long on trying to get the phone to do so and so had selected "mode 2" instead.
The beam that came out of the camera was smaller beam than the one that had come out of the screen, but looked like it had a longer range–
And it was everything that Liryn had wanted.
After testing mode 2, Liryn eventually gone back to the selection mode and selected "mode 1" as he knew that he also had to test to make sure that that mode worked as well.
Finally he checked to make sure that the phone remembered which mode was the mode that had last been used and stayed that way when the app was loaded.
"Ash you're amazing!" Liryn said excitedly as he finally finished up the last of the tests and exited the app "Thank you."

The cat girl laughed as she rocked in her seat, her hands on her crossed ankles. The tip of her striped tail curled and twitched with her amusement, her green eyes crinkled at the corners.
"I'm glad it works! You worked really hard on that, I could tell. I'm glad I got to help you with it." She said as she reached to play with her hair, relaxing now that the work was done. "I wish more of us would do things like that... build things and modify things. Even useless things would be great to see. Mau used to be the epicenter of technology in the universe... we have so much untapped potential."
The evidence left behind on senshi worlds and here in the command center hinted at things she could hardly imagine. Advances humans had barely dreamed of in their sci-fi stories. They'd once had all of that, and now so many of them were stuck here, barely more intelligent than their charges... and sometimes less. She so desperately wanted to see the place all of this tech had been dreamed up and created... she wished she'd been able to see it all when it had been in its prime.
"What do you think you'll do next? Do you have other phone upgrades planned?" Ash asked as she twirled a strand of blue hair around her fingers. Her own sights had moved from senshi gear for the moment, and her thoughts drifted to the abandoned stasis pod she had found. What secrets did that hold for her? "I'd be happy to help you again, if you need it."

"I have a couple of ideas" Liryn admitted, although they were really were just that at the moment - ideas - like the 'mapper' that he had been toying with the idea of.
"I'd love it if you could maybe have a look over them once I have a more solid concept down though." Something that he was planning to start doing now that his little flashlight app was at last finally working as he'd intended it to do.
No–
It was working even better than intended - and it was all down to Ash's help.
Future concepts was something that would be for another day, for now however it was enough for Liryn that his little flashlight app was now complete.Whimsical Blue Thank you so much for the rp Blue <3 I think this works as a fin tag, but lmk if you think it needs another tag set <3
