Alto sighed and sat down against the ledge of the tree planter. He had just helped a friend prank a bully but the bully hadn’t quite liked the prank. They had both managed to escape but alto had injured his ankle. He didn’t want to explain why he was hurt in the first place, and definitely didn’t want to go back to his dorm room and explain why he was hurt to his twin either. So toughing it out in one of the more quiet common areas it was. It was mostly deserted, except for a couple students hurrying to different places and his sky fish. Well one of his sky fish, his oldest Nim. Nim floated around occasionally coming in to nibble lovingly on his ears before floating off again.

Eventually thought he realized he recognized one of the students walking by. He had met them a few times before. Once at the masquerade ball a year or two back. Well at least alto was pretty sure they were the same person. He met them again just recently at one of the festivals. Alto had just bonded with his newest skyfish and they had talked about familiars. He thought about calling out but they had seemed somewhat skittish the last time Alto had talked to them and Alto was all about not causing people distress, well when they hadn’t earned it at least. However it seemed as if Nim had other problems and if sensing its owners thoughts flew over to happily twirl around the hybrid.

“Nim, stop bothering him okay! Ugh I am sorry about that” Alto called out hobbling up and carefully walking over to keep from having to yell.

Yep, same soft voice as always. It was quite a change from hanging out with his other friend Hermes but still a likable change. It was fun to see how different people interacted with the world around him, but that was a thought trail for another time.

“I’m glad. I mean Nim is harmless really but sometimes people just don’t want a friendly familiar in their space, or at least one they don’t know.” Alto answered. He was a bit surprised at the conversation starter but maybe Alto had just worn him down, with all their brief meetings or maybe it was something only Enju knew. “I’m doing well. Well other than a couple scrapes. Can’t complain though? Nim is happy and loved as always. Skyfish are a passion of mine I guess. I have four of them, and am always looking for a new member to the team. How have you been?” he answered.

Alto was silent as Enju talked, after all he didn’t want to accidenlty shuffle or something and miss what was said, then he was pondering what the hybrid had spoken.

“They are. I think it’s because they don’t really judge. They don’t care about your background or what you do. If you love and respect them, it’s enough and they love and respect you back.” He answered. “Well most of the time, but then couldn’t that be said about anything.” He looked down at his ankle, which was holding up better than expected as they stood there.

“Yeah just a sore ankle. There was a kid that was getting bullied, so I messed with the bully back a tiny bit. My escape wasn’t flawless. I’ll live. I’m glad that life on your end seems to be going well. Classes can definitely be a drag.” He watched as Nim floated over again, as if the sky fish could sense it had permission now. “He thanks you for the compliment. Nim’s a special one, my twin got him for me when we were both freshlings. I seem to draw one or two when I go, maybe next time if we meet up again I can help you get a few. Well if you want that is. Don’t have to” alto leaned against the nearby planter.

“It’s just nice to not get that judgement.” Alto agreed. Life was pretty okay on his end. He had his twin and that was enough for him most days. However there were always people ready to pick on him, for being out going or being an orphan. Yeah people could get tiring after a while.

“It should be fine by tomorrow. It’s mostly just a tiny scrape that’s an annoyance for today, but thanks for the well wishes. Alto hid his smile when he seemed to finally be getting progress. Enju always seemed like a rather nice person and alto always felt bad that he couldn’t manage to keep a conversation those other times they had met, although he supposed the first haunted hallows they had met he had done a pretty good job.

“Then I will definitely look for you. Yeah next festival should be Haunted hallows unless they throw one of those back to school things again. It’s kind of rare they do so. So Haunted hallows is the best bet.”

“Ah we often don’t have it, but it’s supposed to be celebrating the return of the students from summer vacation for the ones who don’t live on campus” alto explained. When enju mentioned it was his birthday also gave a smile, he had figured but he also knew some mutations could pass down and hadn’t wanted to make assumptions. Really he didn’t care any way if some one was hallowed or not except for in the cases where the parents did it intentionally knowing the child could die. “Well that makes befriending a familiar so much better. It can be a birthday gift from me to you. Mines actually a month after but i don’t often really celebrate it. I share the birthday with my twin so gotta make him feel special that day you know.” He commented.

“Hey no problem... that’s what friends do right?” Was his reply. Sure maybe some others wouldn’t call them friends but alto was never like that, after all they had danced with each other. Okay it was a masquerade ball and you always danced at those but semantics. Enju definitely needed a friend and alto didn’t mind being one. He stopped for a moment and smiled. On the same note He had never had a friend offer to celebrate with him. Hermes might have offered to celebrate with him if he wasn’t working on a project but then alto had never told him. Birthdays hadn’t really come up. This was the first time alto had ever mentioned his birthday was in November.
“I mean I never turn down presents but really some one just offering to spend it with me is enough. I... I would like that a lot. I’ll look forward to it
