It was wonderful that it was warm again. Really warm again. Dinara was celebrating by having gone and bought a large slush from one of the nearby gas stations, and as she wondered along sipping it, she knew that her tongue was turning blue, and that was okay.

That was more than okay.

She felt…something nearby, but attributed it to just another one of those passing feelings. People didn’t really feel like anything, and that time with Xenia had been an absolute and utter fluke. She had been confused. But, when she saw the tall woman in the rainbow dress, her confusion set in for another moment, though as she took in the colors…the stars decorating the woman, suddenly the confusion turned to utter and complete excitement.

“Hi!” Dinara cried, hurrying over to her and again looking the…the very tall woman up and down. “You…are…are you a Cosmos page too?”

It was a question she had never asked before, and truth be told, she never thought she’d have a reason to ask it. But…for some reason it made sense. And now that it had been asked, she was almost sure of the answer. “I’m Dinara!”

Nis was certainly enjoying the fact that Spring had sprung, the weather was warmer and that she was in considerably less danger of losing anatomy to frostbite. To celebrate, she'd decided to wander the outskirts of the park and simply soak in sunshine.

Given she was powered up, she'd expected stares since she was out during the day. She'd even be ready for possible hostility.

Nothing could have ever prepared for the Blue-Tongued White Girl that came scurrying over to her, excited delight stamped all over her face. Smiling a little warily, Nis studied the other girl even as she herself was being looked over. Rainbow clothing and an aura that felt like sweet syrup. Any suspicions she had that this girl was a fellow knight were cemented by the words that fell from her mouth.

And now that she felt a little more secure, Nis' smile widened though she held a finger up to her lips.

"Easy girl. You really shouldn't talk about that stuff out in public. But yes I am and my name's Nis."

Dinara blinked at these words, confusion coloring her face. “Wait…really? I…I didn’t know that…I’ve been telling everyone that I was a page of…” She lowered her voice to a whisper, suddenly looking around, making sure that nobody could here beside Nis.

Cosmos.”

But that was the wrong thing to do? Why hadn’t Xenia told her that? This was a big deal, and it was information coming from a different page of Cosmos so it had to be legit!

“I seriously didn’t know that it was supposed to be a secret! I wonder what else I don’t know…”

The teenaged page took a long pull from her slushie and puckered her face in pain, hand going up to grip at her head. “Ah…major brain freeze! Not a good idea…but…it was just such a warm night I wanted one so bad, you know?”

Holding up her hands to stall the other girl, Nis tried to make herself more clear. "Whoa, whoa, whoa! Like basic polite introductions are fine. Those are usually quiet and more private. I'm more concerned about loud and public. I'm not sure how you mean 'telling everyone', but if you're just telling anyone with no regard for who's around you, that's dangerous, girl!"

Privately, Nis was thinking that there was probably a lot that both of them didn't know. But right now, she was a lot more concerned about the other girl's safety. Though she couldn't help but smile and shake her head as the brain freeze hit.

"And that's why I never drink those things. It's not worth the pallette pain or brain freeze. I'll stick with iced tea. Now, Miss Dinara, let's us scoot somewhere a bit more private. Just because no one is really around now doesn't mean that a family or pack of hoodlums can't come strolling by at any moment. Since we can't tell who's what if they're wandering around as civilians, it's silly to have an easily overheard conversation."

Suiting words to action, she headed for a spot where she knew it would be hard to overhear. Plus, she'd have a good view of all sides and could keep watch and hopefully have forewarning if anything bad came along.

Why was it dangerous? Was her name such an important object?

It wasn’t like this was her real name…and it wasn’t like she was telling everyone where she lived. Shouldn’t she give her name freely and loudly? If she was a superhero…superman didn’t hide who he was, just who he was during the day.

Dinara gave a rueful, blue teethed smile and nodded at her suggestion to move somewhere more private and quietly followed the older page, sipping her drink and feeling quite thoughtful, and not really at all happy.

Finally she piped up. “What do you want to talk about…and what’s so bad about conversations? I’ve met the nicest people you know. And we talk out in the open! Mostly on benches but…you are acting like everything should be a secret…what’s so dangerous, I’m afraid I just don’t understand!”
She wanted to though. Desperately.

If she could understand…well. Then she could figure out just what she was doing wrong.

Hoo boy... Nis held in a sigh and tried once again to gently drive home that a little caution was a healthy thing.

"I'm not saying having conversations is bad," she began patiently. "I'm saying that not being mindful of your surroundings while having those conversations can be. Now," she gave a reassuring smile. "Just for argument's sake and trust me, I know how improbable the scenario is: What if you weren't careful and a General who wasn't powered up, so you didn't know what he was when that seemingly nice guy walked by as you declared your identity, decided that you'd be ever so much better off if he just spirited you away to be corrupted?"

Nis paused, really not sure how to drive home that it was fine to be friendly. Just be smart about it.

"I've had conversations with lovely people too. But I've also been attacked for no reason by other people. Whether I introduce myself kind of depends on the situation. If the other person has trusted me with their identity first, I figure it's safe enough. But in fairness, there was less risk for them since I can't shove my hand into their chest and undo corruption."

Huffing a little, she massaged the bridge of her nose and closed her eyes. Just how trusting was this girl? Did at least have enough instinct to know when something was wrong?

"Look, if you want to be open, that's fine. I'm only asking you to be smart and careful about it. And remember how much harm can happen between people who aren't like us and have no way to fight back magically. Bad people can be charming and hide how bad they are. Do you really want one of them knowing who you are and using your trust against you to cause harm?" Nis paused and then decided what the hell and asked bluntly, "D'you even know how to fight back if one of those nice people of yours turns out to be rotten inside?"

Dinara was so very confused, though she nodded, trying to take in everything that was being said to her. She kind of felt as though she were being scolded but…couldn’t figure out what had prompted it.

“Nobody’s ever attacked me before, no…I haven’t found any need to fight people…there’s not really anyone awful too fight, from what I’ve seen at least…”

Rotten inside? And giving away her identity? She felt fifty shades of off balance. And what on earth did this woman mean by corruption? That just sounded scary but…

She thought it would make her look even stupider if she were to ask so she only took another sip of the slush, emptying the small cup before throwing it away.

“…Do you know how to fight back? I’ve never really been a fighter…it comes from wearing glasses, I think. You can’t really be a fighter when you wear glasses or they’ll break and then you’ll be a cliché.” Not that she wouldn’t be up for learning…something. It could come in handy someday, maybe.

nis simply stared at Dinara as if she'd sprouted a extra set of limbs. Jesus Christ on the cross, this girl was entirely too innocent. And in spite of Nis telling her that yes, bad people were out there, Dinara didn't seem to believe it simply because she'd never encountered them. Resisting an urge to groan and turn around to bang her head into the wall at her back, the tall knight wondered how on earth she could help this little girl to stay in the land of the living.

"Allow me to refute you're argument that you've never seen bad people therefore I must be wrong," she said harshly and perhaps too impulsively. "There are people who will attack you with no words said simply because of what you are. It's happened to me and I don't really care to repeat the experience. So yes. I do know how to fight back."

Okay, that was it. This girl was getting a lesson right now in basic self defense. Nis wouldn't be able to live with herself otherwise.

"And don't feed me that crap about you can't fight because glasses. A lot of the meanest kids I knew in school who whooped the bullies asses wore glasses. SO. Bullshit argument. C'mon kid, you're getting a lesson right now in self defense."

Giving the best copy she could of her own momma's death glare, Nis stared at the other girl, determined to make her learn something.

Dinara realized that she had said something which upset the other knight. She could see it in the way she looked as though she were ready to just lie down and scream at her…and it didn’t make Dinara feel very good at all.

Quietly she just nodded, shrinking slightly and lowering her gaze to the ground the more that Nis spoke. Her poor little heart couldn’t take someone being honestly angry or annoyed with her, and she wasn’t quite sure what to do or say.

Though, when she was told she was going to be taught self defense, she nodded. “…Okay Miss Nis…” Came the quiet, almost frightened reply. “…I don’t like fighting but…if you really think that I need to do it…you can teach me whatever…”

Even though her stomach was rolling round and she thought she might be sick. If there was one thing in the world that Dinara truly hated, it was people being upset with her.

“…What do you want me to do?”

Catching the way the girl seemed to shrink in on herself, Nis stared at her for a moment before realization set in. And then she mentally kicked herself as Dinara spoke. Hell, she hadn't been trying to give the girl a complex. She'd only wanted her to actually think. Face and voice softening, she reached out to pat the girl's shoulder.

And that was the key, wasn't it. Dinara was still a kid. Kids, even magical ones, rarely considered that the world might be dangerous for them.

"I don't like fighting either," she admitted in a far gentler tone. "I hate the idea of hurting anyone. But if I didn't learn to fight back, the people who want to hurt me would have nothing stopping them. That's all we're doing," she continued in a coaxing voice. "Just giving you tools to help you if you're attacked so you can get away."

Quickly assessing the girl, Nis decided that the most basic of self-defense moves would be her best bet. Moving slowly, but purposefully, Nis watched over her tone and settled on crisp and motherly.

"Now, please don't expect me to teach you the right way to throw a punch because I don't know how either. Well I sort of know, but we're focusing on keeping you from getting hurt. So, we're going to 'fight' and I want you to do your best to block me, okay? And remember that bad guys are going to go for two main spots, your stomach because it's all soft and your face because faces are fragile."

Taking a moment to tie her skirts up so she wouldn't trip, Nis came at Dinara. Granted she was heavily telegraphing her moves, but she thought it still counted. Especially as she threw her punches wildly, wanting to see if the girl could follow her advice.

Dinara nodded, swallowing hard and trying to figure out how she would block the other woman’s advances. At least her tone had changed. At least she wasn’t being yelled at anymore…that was something.

As the other Cosmos Page began to move towards her, the girl went into a sudden panic. She wasn’t a fighter, she couldn’t do this…this wasn’t how she worked.

With a yelp she threw up her arms, trying to protect her face, which was fragile as Nis had said, and her stomach which was squishy…but not that squishy…

She stepped backwards, hoping that maybe she could just dance away from the woman and run…she couldn’t do this…she didn’t want to hang out with this lady for a moment longer than she had to…and when one of the Page’s fists did manage to connect with her stomach, Dinara promptly burst into frightened tears.

There was no way she would last if she ever met any bad guys. This much was painfully obvious…but…

Why was it that the worst person she had ever met…was a Cosmos Page like herself? Was she a bad guy? Were all Cosmos Pages…bad?

Swallowing hard, Dinara did break into a run, not stopping until she couldn't feel the older woman behind her, and then powering down. It was quite hard to not burst into tears, but somehow...she managed. Mostly.
