Rampant natural growth combined with being so close to the land of rain has morphed the surrounding area into a more tropical jungle more than any normal forest. Despite the this regrowth, very little dangerous wildlife have settled in this area. It seems at a first glance that the only things dangers one would have to worry about in this area is the elements themselves. Rainfalls quickly develop into monsoons that can leave even the most determined souls disheartened.

A woman with chocolate skin found a seat in the trees of the forest a small ways away from the bustle of the main group. Coda could be recognized by the Konoha headband around her neck even if her face was different. For now she'd dwell here, in the canopy, remembering what it was like to be a kid again. With any luck Lahlil would seek out the genin and give her some task to fill her time, either in person or via their shared summoning contract.
tabThe first part of her journey Lahlil had remained silent. Her focus was more on the situation at hand than any questions that might have been burning in her thoughts. Three shadows clones of her each had run up ahead some time ago in order to notify her of any ambushes, but so far they had remained remarkably unimpeded here. Just what was the taint here supposed to be anyway? There was nothing for miles but jungle forests in either direction. Then there was earlier when Shouri had whispered in her ear. She hadnβt wanted to admit it then but such close contact with another human being was something she had never accustomed herself to and the moment still left her with goosebumps. Ugh my headβs a mess right now.
Trying to clear her mind Lahlil choose to deflect with awkward small talk. That seemed to be the answer to everything anyway. βSo, I donβt think I caught your name back there. Youβll have to forgive me I never really earned everyoneβs name in the village. Mine is Lahlil, itβs good to uhβ¦ meet you.β Taking a moment to collect her words carefully. βBack at the waterfall you said something I meant to ask you about. Who is the All Mother?β Lahlil hoped that she managed to phrase her question in a non-threatening manner as possible, even going so far as to frame herself as her old shy self. In her experience people tended to talk more when they felt they didnβt need to be afraid.

"Lady Lalhil. As smooth on the tongue as silk to the skin." He said with a warm, thoughtful grin. He appreciated that the woman allowed him to follow her and her party without any disagreements. It certainly made his job easier. The tiger trailed behind, and kept a particular eye on Shouri. The tiger's eyes were fierce as he leered with the intensity which could melt stone. In truth, the real reason Byakko the tiger was acting this aggressive was because The Mother made a complete mockery of them in a way unforgivable to his prideful divinity. Meanwhile, Byakko the human perked up when given a chance to introduce himself. "Kazuto Sakuraba." He mentioned. "Also, I am not a part of your village. I am just a humble priest who goes where the Goddess guides him." He said with a slight laugh as to disarm any potential hostility. Yes he was a nomad, but he was true neutral. All he desired was to make his church and to get the Goddess off of his back. However, since Lalhil asked about the manner of which Byakko found himself to her, it was time to paint the horrific truth with a lovely shade of rose.
"This land is very sacred to The Mother. She has gone by many names over the centuries, but people colloquially refer to her as Evergreen." He said in a way to not overload her with information. He wasn't sure how she felt yet about him being not aligned to her nation, so he wanted to make sure to give her exactly what Lalhil desired. "The All Mother guides all of Nature as a Shepard guides his flock. She is an entity composed of Nature, and, for all intensive purposes, is an immortal God." He said. "She originates from a time when Gods engaged in wars over humanity's and nature's worship. These days she is one of the few deities who desires a sustained connection to humans who value the natural world. That is why she has sent for me to assist you, as well as blessed you with good fortunes." He finished his piece as he waited for questions and feedback. Byakko told no lies, but he was used to skeptics criticizing religion. They usually critique the dumb parts though. It's never an issue of if Gods exist or not. Is if they care about you existing.
__ Shouri walked behind Lahlil and Byakko. Only paces behind though because if he slowed too much then he would be walking with the tiger that was staring daggers into him. To distract himself from his unease in the presence of a quarter-of-a-ton weighing predator. He raised his black-gloved right hand in front of his face and continuously snapped his fingers. Each time he did so a small black flicker would appear above his fingers. Perhaps he was turning into a pyromaniac, but it provided reassurance to him of his own abilities. He listened to Lahlil and Byakko speak and the religious conversation only served to turn him off really. Shouri had far too much on his mind to be concerned with such vagueness. "Can you ask the Mother to tell this tiger not to eat me please?" There was anxiety in his voice as he continued to snap and ignite small flickers of ebony flame. "I don't see anybody around here, Lahlil. Can I be the one to stick the flag in the ground? I wanna be the pioneer." He offered a half-hearted chuckle after his sarcastic joke. Shouri was playing up a cocky tone to add levity to this uneasy situation in a forest with a priest and an angry tiger.

Coda relaxed just long enough up in her tree to be caught off guard by the sound of people chatting nearby. She figured they wouldn't make it all the way over here for a while, so maybe it was someone else? The last thing she needed was to be at the tip of an ambush's spear. She took a moment to summon forth Shibuki from one of her tattoo seals, just in case, and kept her high ground. Tree to tree, moving as quietly as anyone carrying a massive explosive sword might manage. What she found was Lahlil, with a strange entourage in tow. For the life of her, Coda couldn't understand where all the other shinobi just seemed to appear. She knew she came from a small town on the edge of a big forest just like this one, but it was a bit headspinning to her to always have someone new to worry about. Did make the disguise bit rather useful, though. At least Lahlil wasn't someone she needed to worry about.
The genin sighed with a bit of relief, whipping around the massive blade and resting her arm across what amounted to the hilt as if leaning on the shoulders of an old friend. As she did so, her hands came together to form a seal and she was back to her normal self - for as much meaning as that had when you could change shape at will. "Sup, bat lady?" She called casually from her spot up in the trees. The diminutive punk looked the part, though it was clear the tatters in her clothes were the result of a fight and not a style choice. Her jacket, in particular, a wreck, barely hanging onto her shoulders sporting some rather large holes that included the complete removal of one of the sleeves just below the elbow. Clearly she had next to no time between scrapping it out and the village going supercritical.
tabLahlil remained silent throughout Kazuto's explanation, even during the part where he admitted to not being apart from the village. It was a lot to digest at the moment but as foolish as it might seem her worry wasn't with any rogue right now. That problem, if it ever became one, wouldn't be hard for her to fix but a goddess? That was far above her.
She might have been helping them for right now but that didn't mean she was under any obligation to due so in the future and she wasn't keen on being beholden to the whims of a deity. "Well... that's interesting. I still have a lot of questions but those might be better saved for when we aren't walking through unknown territory."
Running her fingers through her hair Lahlil released herself from her genjutsu. It wasn't likely that she would need to address anyone anymore or at least she didn't plan to and wanted the again. The moment the kai cleared her thoughts she felt her face flush with embarrassment. How forward had she been eailer! She wasn't even Kage and yet she had ordered them around! The whole thing just felt wrong. She needed some time to be herself.
From the side of her eyes Lahlil watched Shourifiddle with his. It was amuywatching him fiddle not so unlike how she used to do with her sweater. Was that how she appeared to others so long ago? A giggle snuck it's way past her lips. "Of course you can! Except if my source is to believed then there should be some kind of.. uhm bad guys? So we can't claim anything until we deal with whatever that is." As if responding to her own laughter Lahlil's shadow twisted into the shape of a mime and stretched itself over torwards Shouri himself only to blow him a raspberry. Had her shadow always been able to do that? She couldn't remember but the exchange turned her giggles into full blown laughter.
Thankfully she managed to pull herself together just in time for Coda to come hopping from the trees. Ah.. wait a second how do I know her name? I could have sworn I've never meet her in my life...? But that can't be right she remembered clearly having signed her to the bat contract. Just what is going on lately?"Oh hey Coda! I thought you might not have made it out of the village from that earlier eruption. You haven't meet with any forces out here have you? We are apparently surrounded on all fronts."

Byakko laughed when Shouri mentioned the tiger's visual threat. "Oh don't worry about Professor Fluffytail. He's harmless." Kazuto said with a chuckle. This of course merited him being struck in the back with a black ball of lightning. Granted, the blast was at an extremely low rank. However, it did cause Byakko to stagger a bit while the tiger let out a disgusted growl. His mouth closed and his focus shifted, however, when the new girl appeared in his sensory range. Byakko was about to pounce and maim her when the leader addressed her, which meant that she was not currently an enemy. The tiger reverted to a more default stance as it kept his focus on the new coming. Doing so of course stopped him from looking onward at Shouri's flame. Meanwhile, Byakko balanced himself out and scratched the back of his head. "There are bad guys indeed in these sacred lands. It is fair blessings that you and your people have come to liberate it." He said charmingly. In truth he knew that the goddess was probably guiding them to this destination for her own gain. The only thing which he questioned was why was the goddess taking so much interest in these people? According to Lalhil their knowledge of the goddess was vague, which meant that they cannot have been avid worshippers. What in particular about this group must make them so special?
__ Shouri smiled mischievously when Lahlil laughed at his comments. He was then startled when one of her shadows was manipulated and stuck its tongue out at him. He then stuck his tongue out in retort briefly before it rested in his cheek. Shouri suspected that the shadow manipulation was a genjutsu of some sort. Her response about bad guys being around made him chuckle. "Ooo, bad guys. Let me guess, they're brigands. Or maybe just a band of forest merry men?" He continued to scan the area with his red eyes and just saw tree after tree. This seemed like the perfect set up for some sort of nonsensical second tier villainy. Someone evidently named Coda appeared as well to join in on the fun. Byakko's side comment about Professor Fluffytail was also concerning, but it was clear that he was trying to joke around with him. "If he's harmless then can I ride Professor Fluffytail into the battle with the brigands?" Shouri's joke was deadpan with a serious tone although he had no intentions on getting anywhere close to that vicious looking animal. He was looking forward to vanquishing some grunts, however.

"Nah, no bad guys. But, well, I'm not a scout." Coda said as she took her own turn sizing up the newbies. The tiger was interesting, but they were about as bog standard as they came in terms of shinobi. Not really interesting to her, but then she hardly fell into the category of normal and it was all relative. She forcibly suppressed the desire to roll her eyes at the notion of these lands being sacred, but for the most part they at least avoided being the shouty kid. Coda wasn't a huge fan of the more systemic shinobi she found herself surrounded by, but at least these managed to pronounce more than half of every word and didn't scream like a banshee in the process. "Liberation's just a nice way of saying conquest about ninety percent of the time. Bit early for that assessment, Cat Bro." Despite her distaste for it, it did seem like Coda was unlikely to get a change of clothes and a bed not of her own making anytime soon. Uzu might have been a crater, but for whatever reason the machine that kept these villages rising up from the ashes like putties never took a break. "I can take the bats up and try to scout, if either of these two have more than just a pair of eyeballs to help out. Don't think I'll see anything through the branches and s**t on my own though."

Smiling as she played along with Shouri's joke Lahlil was really only half kidding. Who could pass up the chance to ride a real life fully tamed tiger? Not that she would do so without consent though. But that was enough poking fun, she did have a job to do here after all. Digging both hands into the dirt Lahlil used her water manipulation technique to create a small pool of water beneath her that was packed well enough to not drain immediately. It would look like much to the but even without the use of hand seals it's surface shimmered to display the same forest they were in, with each of their little forms present in the picture. Despite how it might look Lahlil was in fact not magical but rather used her eyes as a focus.
"That's a great idea Coda! Would you mind using your bats to check the surrounding area closest around us? I can divine further up ahead with my water. That way you have less of a chance of getting ambushed without us nearby. " Looking back down to her pool of water now with the red hue of her Sakkakugan Lahlil used her finger to scroll up ahead and hunt for any hidden forces that might be laying in wait. Which searching in bulk like this there were already plenty of life forces reveled to her, however none of them seemed to be human or at least not yet.

"Now that would be actually funny." Byakko said as he cracked a genuine smile at Shouri's comment of riding Byakko into battle. Of course the tiger roared in response to the disrespect, but that just made the human laugh harder as he lit up a cigarette. Sure enough the leader joined in on the humor as well, and that just made him roll his eyes appropriately to the lunacy being reported. However, Coda's comment made him revert back to his usual facade. "Pleasantries are all we have to separate ourselves from the beast. And no mistake, there will be a fight." Kazuto said with a humor to his tone to mask the sincerity of his words. The mother did not threaten him to an inch of his life for there to be nothing here. Whatever was in these woods was enough to make Evergreen afraid enough to make sure that it died and stayed dead. Admittedly, the man was not eager to set eyes on it himself.
Karuto's life force definitely didn't look human. No, he was firmly in 'small bear' territory. It would be easy for Lahlil to not notice him as he sauntered into view of the little group. He brushed some dust off of his palms, the only evidence of his earlier works. He wasn't surprised to find the woman accompanied by a team of rather competent looking warriors- a kage needed her protection after all. Still, it was her character rather than her strength which drew people to her. She was...kind. An odd train in this self serving world but one Karuto found pleasing. He walked up behind Lahlil, ignoring Coda and the mysterious other two men, and tapped her on one shoulder before ducking on the opposite side. When she inevitable caught him the Raiken would be grinning sheepishly as he poked the pool of water with his boot "You don't stay idle for long. I take a few hours to help relocate civilians and off you go again!" He crouched down now and swirled his finger in the water, cutting disturbing the image and watching it quickly reform into the crystal clear image of the surroundings "Chie would come back and haunt me if I let anything happen to another Kage" Karuto stood back up to his full height and crossed his arms. He looked past Lahlil and spotted Coda, quickly throwing up a 'peace' sign over his crossed arms "Yo, squirt" He said good-naturedly. Moving past her, he glanced over to the two strangers. He nodded at them before speaking "Don't think I've had the pleasure yet- name's Karuto Raiken. Happy to meet 'ya"

Tucked away in the canopy of one of countless oversized jungle trees was a seemingly small encampment. This tree rested only a couple miles from the location of the Uzushio refugees, Although this camp hadn't yet been discovered, they were quite aware of the shinobi. The density of the western forest had more than served to conceal them since these lands were abandoned before, and now they had all the more reason to remain hidden. Technology not seen in over half a decade facilitated their communications as well as thwarted even the most potent of chakra sensory. Of course, other methods could give them away and they waited on edge in hopes that the ninja would simply go away again. If not, many of them were already lined up in the scopes of cloaked agents further scattered throughout the forest. These mysterious squatters wouldn't make the first move, but they'd gladly make the last.

Coda deadpanned Karuto for the time being, nipping her finger and drawing it across her left forearm before forming a handseal. The tattoos that curled up to her elbow glowed momentarily, before a massive amount of smoke exploded around them, dissipating quickly. "Cat, meet bat." She said with a barely suppressed smirk as the house sized Esmeralde loomed over the group in the disappearing cover. The massive fruit bat craned over to examine the tiger for a moment before yawning widely and turning her attention back to Coda. "Please tell me the cat isn't why I'm here; I was having such a nice nap." Coda rolled her eyes goodnaturedly at the rhetorical inquiry.
"Actually I brought you here to be bigger than the giant walking muscle and make 'old bat' jokes." The genin chirped back as she activated another jutsu with the same handseal she'd formed earlier and then pressed her right hand to the explosive tag surface of the giant sword at her side. The formula from its surface spread onto her arm, pushing the one that had previously occupied that spot further up her arm where it melded into the woman's normal tattoos and took their place. Meanwhile the new tattoos coalesced into pure black momentarily, before fading to reveal the same formula as the one on the sword a few seconds later. "I'm gonna head up and have The Old Bat screech a bit." The joke elicited an annoyed chirp from Esmeralde, but she didn't protest when Coda hopped up onto her a moment later.
The genin steadied herself with a hand on an ear that was easily as large as she was. Summoning a small amount of rubber using her Yoton and guiding it to the Esmeralde's ears, where it formed what amounted to earplugs. It became clear as to why, a moment later. Coda pointed a finger in Karuto's direction, pressing her thumb and middle finger together at the same time. As she snapped, an explosion occurred that sounded like a starter pistol and the genin added a bit of flair by turning her pointing into a finger gun aimed at the big taijutsu specialist in the process. "If you hear one of those, I've found something. If you hear something bigger, I'm fighting it. Call me squirt again and I'll blow up your house after they build it." And with that Esmeralde's wings flapped, and she kicked up of the ground with a suddenness that would seem unbecoming of lackadaisical bat. The pair disappeared through the canopy, and Coda brought her rubber back to her free hand. A moment later a series of chirps started echoing through the trees, and the hunt was on.
[ Since Karuto just got here, I'm going to give it a round before Coda finds the bad guys. ]
