One of the areas ravaged by the nine tails, this side of the forests still bares it's wounds clearly. Trees and the foliage have had a hard time growing out here and likely would not be here at at all were it not for the life giving waters pouring from the waterfall. This has succeeded in turning the surrounding area into a swampy marsh land. Those who enter here would be wise to keep their wits about them, the countless floating bodies of every kind of different species makes it clear that death is always hangs in the air.

The man who hailed from Sunagakure landed with a heavy....squishy splash as the murky water sloshed about as his heavy footed landing was made. The muddy water rippled outward as it slowly cleared itself, allowing Masato to see himself in it's reflection. The distorted image below him made him look monsterous. A look he felt reflected his actions of late accurately. He closed his eyes as he inhaled and exhaled sharply. Upon opening them, he would reveal his crimson rinnegan. His eyes shifted about the area. " This place...." he began, sensing something familiar, only to have the sentence completed by Kurama. "...it's ripe with my chakra....and another's." His gruff voice was rather short and to the point, Masato would sense something was awry. The Jonin crossed his arms. " Why would your chakra be so heavy here? It seems... heavy" The demon's answer would be less than clear. Simply. " My past is...rather extensive here."
Masato, deciding not to push the topic would take note of a difference in the atmosphere. His eyes remained vigilant on the surroundings as the veins in his eyes shifted, indicating the activation of his Byakugan as well. " This...is...mother's chakra too." He gritted his teeth. Evergreen, the goddess of nature, mother to the siblings who now created scars upon her earth. He would be uneasy, knowing he came here to train...but the circumstances of Kurama and Evergreen's chakra being present made him wary. Masato would begin to recall the techniques he had witnessed his brother using, replaying them in his mind to perfectly replicate them. His training would persist for sometime while he remained aware of his surroundings. [ Training Coupon claimed for lost Tai slots from dedicated disciple double class towards Rinnegone ]
Eerie ripples flung across the water as if he were its first ever guest to step into it's murky home. From the moment this happened Masato would as though eyes were upon him watching his every move and yet... there were none to be see by his byakuguan. Surely that meant that it was all in his imagination, right?
With every step he took into the bog's grasp the surrounding area would spring to life almost as if it were reacting to the presence of the Kyuubi being so near. Of course being able to view chakra in great detail meant that Masato would witness the area twist into that of a burning hellscape of deep red anger. It's fires of passion were so powerful now that it was almost enough to drown out the few forms of life that hadn't already been corrupted.
Almost was the key phrase here. Assuming he were perceptive enough to notice a glimmer of pale forest green chakra slither through the reeds and disappear underground. He would have to wait before he could investigate the anomaly however, as several crocodile-like forms had now managed to surround him by using water and high plants to mask their physical presence. Thankfully the easily recognizable nine tails chakra gave them away like a firework in the night sky. The first move would be Masato's.

__ Kotori followed her eyes while leading Rowena through the forests south of the cliffs and falls where the newest leader lady set up shop for everyone. Honestly, she was amazed at how different the area looked compared to what she remembered from her childhood. She was almost certain that this was close to the area that her brother tried to show off his ninja skills against a Terrursa only to put them both in danger that their mother was thankfully still healthy enough at the time to handle. Shrugging off that mildly somber feeling of her being orphaned, Kotori kept on jumping from one high tree branch to the next. The boggy forest floor in this area wasn't anything she felt like wading through more than necessary. She yelled back to Rowena to clear up something she said before they left for their mission, "Actually, it wasn't a punch! Like Kotori said, Masato-sama smashed that meteor to itty bitty bits and saved a whole village with just a flick! Kotori wants to be THAT strong someday!!" Her exclamation echoed through the forest, surely garnering more attention from the local fauna and whatever else than necessary.
As if she couldn't be any more energetic, Kotori felt herself well up with even more enthusiasm as she jumped to another tree, "YaaahhooooooooOOOOOOOoooooooo!!!" She could see Masato still, and they were getting closer by literal leaps and bounds. He seemed to be in the midst of some kind of training, and Kotori knew there was only so much she could learn from only watching from afar. "Better hurry or we'll miss out!" With one last strong jump she launched herself out of the trees and down toward where Masato was. He seemed on guard and Kotori realized why as she neared. Somehow she hadn't noticed the several reptilian beasts crawling out of the tall bushes and surfacing from the water. They were all covered in a very dense chakra that probably offered some kind of protection and then some. Regardless, Kotori showed no fear as she recollected her training for moments like these. "You're not worthy of Masato-sama's fist!" A timely front flip put her in position with a raised leg to be brought down on one of the monster crocs. Honestly, she had no idea how much damage the gravity and momentum reinforced strike would deal, but she was less worried about that and more wanting to draw attention to herself. Kotori would bounce off of the crocodile's head into one more flip only to land atop the water's surface between them and Masato. "Leave these beasts to Kotori! I'll give them all wallops they won't soon forget!!" She knew the man would have absolutely no problem slaying all these weak creatures in a heartbeat, but she really wanted a chance to show off for him. That star-struck anxiety which caused her to lose consciousness before was gone. Kotori managed her poor gentle fist stance as she awaited any of them to make a move that didn't involve high-tailing it out of here. Since they were trying to square up with someone as great as her idol, she doubted they would run now.

"A flick, huh? This Masato sounds remarkable." She considered the possibilities of this man tutoring them both in taijutsu, though if he was away from the central gathering of what remained of the village, she had to believe he had good reason. Her paranoia suggested that he was plotting against the village, but the cynical concept was put off by Kotori's energetic optimism and evident awe of him.
They ended up in a clearing with a gentleman that was apparently Masato. Rowena flinched at Kotori's immediate attack of the reptilian beasts. "How do you know they're malicious? They could just be minding their own business," she suggested level-headedly, but brought a hand to her cheek afterwards and sighed. If they weren't vicious before, they would be at Kotori's assault. She created a sword from her left palm and held onto it with both hands, charging at the creature nearest herself and slashing at it repeatedly. If Kotori was going to start a fight, Rowena wanted to finish it. "I've never seen creatures like these, let alone ones capable of utilizing chakra in this manner. Are you familiar with them?"

Masato had been at his training for hours, his efforts requiring spiritual strain, not physical. His eyes had been honed and sharpened to equate Sandayu's own. He exhaled, a fine shimmer over his body from the sweat it exhuded. The sweat was not from the exertion but the humid atmosphere. He would break away, resting upon a log upon a bank. As he relaxed, his eyes would widen. " Whiskers, what is that." he spoke internally to his companion. Kurama would exclaim in return to Masato. " That's my chakra...but it's not from me now. It's like the area is festering with my residual chakra from back then..."
He stood, readying himself, just as he would prepare for the four incoming reptilian creatures cloaked in Kurama's cloak, a young boy and girl would appear on the scene. He instantly recognized the boy, he was the same boy who he had carried from the collapse. Now the boy seemed more than awake and ready to fight. His battle cry, the Yahoo that echoed the woods would cause Masato to raise a brow. The boy exclaimed that he, Kotori would wallop the whole group of gators. Behind him, the dark skinned female with the strange adornment and paint would attack with a rather familiar looking weapon. " One of Nariomi's kind, huh." He said to himself, wondering if the girl would suffer the same early end that his late teacher did.
While the two did a good job of drawing the creature's attention, Masato would know these actions were not enough to fend off the other two creatures they hadn't attacked. He calmly raised his hands, opening his palms towards the two un-attacked creatures. The Bansho Tennin technique would quickly grasp both of the reptiles, causing them to levitate from the surface of the water and be drawn instantly to both of his hands. As he held the creature's throats in his hands he would examine them closely for a glancing moment. He slowed his breathing, changing paths as he expended the chakra to do so. Then, the chakra that plagued the two crocodile like animals would be drawn from them using the Leech touch. Normally, it would be just as dangerous for one to absorb Kurama's chakra, however having the demon as his own would allow him to seamlessly pull the chakra back into Kurama himself. He would toss the two creatures aside, far from the reach of both the girls. He looked to them both with grin. " Alright you two, lets see what you're made of!" He was curious to see what this boy and Kaguya clanswoman could accomplish.
As soon as their forms were pulled from the reeds one would be able to tell the full twisted effects the demon chakra had on the beasts. Skin shifted from the color of the grass into a deep red hue betraying the camo-like abilities that possessed. Aside form the skin discoloration the creates looked to be a mix of a crocodile and a human with bipedal legs and arms. Long wicked teeth snapped in response to the surprise pull but were ultimately silenced once the chakra was pulled from their bodies. As soon as the demonic chakra was taken back in its original owner the animals withered away into a crumbled black skeleton. Their screams echoed in pain were a warning to the others that their ambush had been discovered.
With a start they leaped to their feet and both attacked the two smaller genin trying to weed out the weakest first. Each gator-man stood at six feet tall and lashed out in sweeping claw attack, fists both covered entirely in a bubbly red chakra. This was only the start of their trouble however, as from the recently slain bodies still in Masatoβs grasp, there erupted a mass of thin black tendrils. By the hundreds they torn from each body and wrapped themselves around Masatoβs arms trying to dig into his skin a parasite.

__ Despite her bluster, Kotori was a disappointed that her strike had little effect on the crocodile monster she jumped on earlier. Kotori replied to Masato's acceptance of their help with an enthusiastic, "Hai!!" She stood her ground atop the surface of the swamp water even as the beast rose up to stand on it's hind legs. She noticed Masato used a couple strange techniques to slay the other beasts after draining them of their excessive energy. The strange orange-red aura covering the creatures she and Rowena had to fight seemed to be bolstering their simplistic attacks. "Haaaah!!!" The little girl roared defiantly as her Enlightenment shown through with flickering fiery chakra surrounding her small frame. "YAH!" A crossing strike would meet the clawless part of its mutated hand-like appendage to deflect the blow, "HiiYAH!" A second blow, aimed at the opponent's center mass, was delivered with her third empowering outcry. This second attack lashed out at speeds which effortlessly rivaled that of the Shunshin skill, carrying all of it's power faster than the blink of an eye. The first strike would surely off-balance the beast, while the second would send it sprawling backward through the swamp thanks to the wind chakra it was infused with. Kotori knew that she didn't know a lot, but she was confident in her acute skill set even in the face of the unknown. Kotori's attention was drawn back to Masato when the black skeletal carcasses in Masato's grip attempted to attack him in such a diabolical ambush.

Having received no answer on whether anyone was familiar with the beasts, she assumed they were a foreign enemy. Rowena took an eye off her target for just a second in order to see Masato lift up the other two gator creatures with a technique she had never seen before. She gave herself a mental note to ask about it then returned to the target at hand.
The creature moved for an odd swipe. She was feeling funny about interacting with the bubbling chakra that gave off a malicious aura, but she concentrated her bones to her right side in order to take the strength out of the blow. The force of it was mostly diffused across the heavy, chakra-infused bones that covered the surface of her side, though she was still forced to take two side steps to account for the velocity of the attack.
"Er, Masato? Did you do anything to anger these creatures?" She was unhappy that they were fighting these things seemingly for no reason, as she tended to believe animals - even odd chakra-bearing ones - did not attack without being instigated.
With the swipe diffused, she shifted from the defensive stance to summoning a bone and swirling one foot in order to attack the beast in a top-like fashion. "Before I forget," she said as she spun, "we're supposed to take you back to the central gathering." As she spun, she caught glimpses of blackened skeletons dispersing as well as a moving blur she vaguely recognized as Kotori - and damn, did she move quick.

Masato's eyes widened as the beasts screamed, withering away to black skeletons. While he was surprised these things still had the life force to fight back, it wasn't completely unseen. Thanks to his evolved dojutsu, the burst of chakra that acted as prelude to the tendrils would be the tell that would cause him to react. While the ebony tendrils would seem to engulf the Uchiha's right and left arm he lowered them to his sides, seeming strangely calm. Smoke would begin to bellow from the cracks in the tendril's clutches. Where there's smoke, there's fire. This fire came with unparalleled force. The arms of the man would spew flames from beneath the tendrils as they would be burned away. Within such a fleeting moment, the tendrils would be scorched away and leave only the visage of Masato, ablaze from head to toe. His Fierce flaming fist technique would force the skeleton's last ditch attempt to be rendered null and void as the black ashes of their remains flaked into the air. His silhouette could be seen within the flames as his crimson Rinnegan seemed dull compared to the flames. The swampy water that he stood within boiled near his shins as they rose above the surface.
He would remain silent as he observed the boy in yellow. He was swiftly dealing blow after blow to the opponent's. It was impressive how well he fought, although clearly untrained. His actions reminded Masato of his own unorthodox martial skills when he began his journey. While his technique was sloppy, his power was clearly something to be taken seriously. Likewise, the girl who accompanied him seemed to have great form but lacked power yet. Her bone based combat would be impressive to be sure. This one was trying to carry on a conversation, gathering from what she had to say pointed towards Lahlil summoning him back to the village. " Haven't done a damn thing to em'. These are echoes of the Nine Tailed Fox. Probably want to absorb his chakra and become even stronger." He scoffed, offering a confident smirk within his own burning pyre. " Good luck to em' "
For a moment the party would seem to be doing fairly well. Each able to hold off one of the creatures or at least so they thought, for much like the skeleton surprise from just a moment ago, It seemed as though these wicked creatures were just full of tricks.
First there was young Kotori. Hands moving like lightning themselves, the young genin was easily able to parry the strike from her adversary and return in kind with her own powerful blow. The wind from the attack serving to force the creature flying backwards a few feet, itβs body dead in the water or at least half of it anyway. Itβs form soon began to twist and convulse until, like a parasite, hundreds of long black tendrils slithered their way out of itβs body and into the murky waters. From itβs movements it would be clear to Kotori that itβs intent was to replace itβs used up host with her own body. This was only the beginnings of her troubles however, as a simple glance down would reveal the fire on her hand from when she had used the parry to still be burning. Strange? Shouldnβt that be out the moment she willed it to? Indeed, no matter how hard she now tried, itβs now blood red flames simply refused to put out by any means. There was at least consolation in the fact that it didnβt seem to be burning her or at least not yet. Although there would be a slight tickle spreading throughout her body. Assuming her wonderful hero Masato would bother to look back would it be revealed that the nine tails chakra be spreading through her body. Something that Kotori would also be able to notice but likely not understand if she had never meet or at least read about the nine tails. Either itβs chakra spreading throughout her body couldnβt be a good sign.

Next there was the lovely Rowena who didnβt seem to be in any better of position. The moment the bones formed to block the strike would it be shown that the blow did barely any damage at all. As a matter of fact, it could probably be conferred that itβs only purpose was to infect the target with itβs demonic chakra. After making contact with the bones a small portion of the chakra would be left behind to slowly seep into them, turning them into the same blood red color as Kotoriβs fire and refusing it be dismissed. There was at least a silver lining here in that her bone attack tore right on through the crocβs body. Itβs animalistic eyes faded into the familiar glossy shine of the dead, but from itβs cut wounds quickly came the tendrils same as the others. While she was still close to the creature they willed it to stay close and take the attack all in an attempt to latch onto her skin and βinfectβ her.

Finally, there was Masato himself hose fire roasted the two things before him. A horrible popping sound could be heard from whatever the parasites were as they writhed about trying to put themselves out however they could. It looked like there was some solace in how weak whatever these things were. There was however, a small bump in the road, when out of the corner of his vision would notice the same color chakra of these beasts they were fighting slip past by and disappear into the same cave as before. If there was more of these beasts then surely he would want to chase after them to prevent them possibly alerting more but what about his disciples? Could he risk leaving them infected with his demonic chakra long enough to keep a hold of their advantage?

Each of the girls would feel pain from this dark chakra. Their beings would pulsate with an ominous presence just before Masato's trifecta dojutsu would both see and detect Kurama's chakra spreading maliciously through them. Masato turned his head, facing the girls as his blazing form would extinguish. " Boy! Better fix them before they turn into a real problem." Masato moved, acknowledging and agreeing with Kurama. His lightning quick actions brought him to Kotori's side, glancing at Rowena. Without warning, Rowena would find herself at Masato's side. The girl would be able to see the murky water rippling where she had just been. It was a technique he was saving for Sanda in their battle to come,but he wanted to chance nothing on these two youths being infected by Kurama's corrupted chakra. After moving Rowena with time and space manipulation, Masato would grasp the two of them by the wrist and leap into the air, slamming his feet against the tree trunks emerging from the water to throw himself higher into the trees and begin placing distance between the parasites. Stopping after several minutes of fleeing, using the clear speed advantage he had over the things he would look to the flames coming from Kotori. Their dark red chakra was identical to Kurama's first stage cloak. Looking back to Rowena, the bones she had created were slowly being encroached by the chaka. He had to decide who would be infected first. From the looks of it, Kotori was the choice. The flames already began to flicker around her body, showing signs of physical contact on her as the dancing cinders would wear away at the base of flesh upon her.
" Sorry girl, the boy is a higher risk. I'll tend to you next. No worries." He placed his hand over Kotori, using the Leech Touch once again to remove the chakra of the fox and absorb it into his own, purifying it in the process.

Rowena's breath hitched as the creature's corrupted chakra began tainting her bone sword. She took a surprised step back, but found herself flung somewhere else entirely through a foreign technique, suddenly by Masato's side. She hadn't felt any wind, so it could not have been a fuuton technique or the substitution skill, but her stomach lurched at the sensation regardless.
"What the hell-?" She began her tirade but was interrupted with their sudden fleeing. She focused on not vomiting as Masato led her and Kotori from the battle. When they settled, Masato sized them both up and Rowena felt a surge of indignation at the feeling, further inflamed when he claimed Kotori was a higher risk to them. What did that mean? Was he calling her weak? She bared her teeth but couldn't find the words immediately, the corrupted chakra making her taste blood in her mouth.
She hissed and shook involuntarily as she fell under the influence of the chaotic chakra nature. She struggled to drop the bone sword as it was engulfed in horrid chakra. She felt herself losing control of her body, losing touch with her mind, and falling to base instincts in its stead.
The corrupted chakra crawled up her skin as her bones began erratically growing and protruding from her skin, a bit of foam gathering at her mouth.
__ Kotori felt her arm on fire. Which, y'know wasn't really normally a huge deal, except that it was getting way more intense even though it should've dispersed when she finished parrying that crocomonster's claw. "Wha!? What's this stuff!?!?" The flames on her arm turned a deeper red and she couldn't deactivate or even shake them off no matter how hard she tried. She could see the worm thingies slithering through the bog to come get her, but it was pretty hard to decide which problem to deal with first in the heat of the moment. Thankfully, she didn't really have to do much in these dire straights because her super awesome idol stepped in. Sure! She would've loved to handle it all herself, but even she had to acknowledge when she was having a tough time and needed a hand. She and Rowena were slung around by the brawny hero before they found themselves in the treetops and Masato contemplated his options. From what she could see, Rowena really wasn't taking this well. Kotori couldn't really figure out why, maybe because the chakra affecting her was in a less prioritized area of the body, but it just hurt a lot. Her recently discovered partner in smashing stuff was getting.. well y'know.
Kotori paused as she remained in her savior's grip and started to inquire, "Wait... what b- nnghghaaaaahhhn!!" Her sentence was cut off just as the strange foreign chakra was pulled right back out of her before it could do much more damage. Honestly, she almost preferred the steadily intensifying stings pinging throughout her body over all the momentary agony that came with this tending process. Kotori collapsed atop of the branch they were all standing on. "Woof! What a rush..." She felt her head spinning, not helping that her Byakugan got forcibly deactivated in the process, and rolled her sleeve back down. She'd be none the wiser to the newly acquired scar on her left forearm- at least, not yet. Rediscovering her usual pluckiness, Kotori bounced back onto her feet and brought her hands back together to mold her chakra, "Byakugan!" She wouldn't let herself be down and out yet. There was still more impressing of Masato to be done. "Probly shouldn't try punching those worm thingies, but... how about those things there in the cave?" She slammed her fist into an open palm and grinned eagerly. That grin faded when she felt an anguishing pulse in her left arm, originating from the newly gained scar, and she'd feel her body become incredibly heavy as her consciousness faded. "Uhhhm...? Kotori found herself dropping right out of the tree and diving head-first out of the tree toward the shallow, infested, swampland below. Luckily, she'd narrowly avoid striking any other branches on the way down with her current trajectory. Fainting twice in front of her esteemed role model was really not earning her any extra points.

As soon as no bodies were left in sight for the parasites their tracks stopped dead cold. A few tentacles rose high in the air and swiveled around as if it were 'testing' it's surroundings but ultimately it made very little movement. Whatever vision these things had was obviously limited in some way, perhpas they could only see what was directly in near by them? Whatever the case may be both parasites were able to make their way to each other through the swampy lands and enteratgle with each other. Together from their joining the creatures morphed into one vaguely hummonid collection of stringy black tentacles. With two extremities what seemed to resemble a pair of hands, it started to cover both ground and the top most layer of water in a network of tendrils in every direction, far more in fact than what should have been possible for it's body to have made up. That could only have left the explanation that somehow, this creature could manipulate chakra. With Kotori's body now falling from the tree it looks like Masato would once again have to play the hero if he didn't want his biggest fan falling right into the network of veins below.
Meanwhile, up in the tree tops Rowena would now feel the kyuubi chakra flooding her veins. Leeching onto her chakra network now, much like the parasites below, the demon chakra would travel through her body and pulse with an unnatural burning. The fire inside only able to be quenched by committing a ts of violence, a d indeed it would be hard to resist when the girls own thoughts would turn against her. Every bit of scorn or shred of irritation ever felt now came bubbling to the surface along with a bestial corrupting of the mind. Her body followed suit with this change just as quickly with a yellow-gold coating of chakra in the formation of a one tailed fox, and bones jutting out further than they already were. Clearly whatever this infection was it wasn't just the kyuubi chakra but did at least draw it's basis from it. What a mess.
