Nalini grumbled softly, sitting at a table and looking out at the heavy downpour outside, sprawled out slightly with her head in her hands, ears drooping. She had been looking forward to hunting down bird nests in the trees again today, but the sky seemed to have other ideas. Usually rain wasn't a problem for her, even if it did mean extra brushing and general fur maintenance later, but this was a little much even for her. She could see the small creek nearby filling up.

The problem now was that she was so used to going outside to play, even on days that were not that great, she had little idea of what to do while she waited for the rain to stop. Not that watching the storm wasn't interesting, but it was still rather...stationary, she liked to move. As it was, she was dressed for a nicer day, with her favorite shorts and t-shirt on. Her rain stuff had been left behind, and it was quite the walk back to the dorm, if she could even find a way to get there without going outside. She had heard of tunnels before, but that required indoor exploration. Bleh.

Huginn typically liked storms. There was just something about watching the rain hit the windows, the smell of the air and the darker skies. He even loved really windy days. It was the best weather to curl under a blanket and read. However with the slight rumbling sound huginn kept minutely jerking and flickering his eyes outside. He liked storms, he just didn’t always like thunder. It was being frequent enough he had read the same page ten times already. Besides reading in a room with other people wasn’t always the easiest either.

Now that he wasn’t trying to read, he noticed some of the other occupants in the room. There was one student who didn’t look like they were enjoying the weather much, or maybe something else was wrong. Huginn looked to the side and gathered up energy enough to be social. “I... is everything okay? You look kinda of down if you don’t mind me asking,” he spoke up hoping he wasn’t being that much of a bother.

Her ears perked up before she seemed to register what was going on, seconds ticking by before she slumped over pathetically to look at who was talking. "Yeah, I'm...I'll be fine. Bummed about the storm, was hoping to be climbing some new trees by now." Her eyes finally seemed to focus on the hybrid, looking him over for a few moments, spotting the book after another few. Summoning the energy to move, she did her best to look slightly less pitiful, ending up resting her head on her crossed arms. "What about you? Reading anything interesting?"

Nalini wasn't much of a recreational reader; that seemed like time she could be better spending outside getting muddy or into trouble somewhere. Unless it was reading about places to go, she always enjoyed doing research. A flash of light lit up the window behind him, and her ears focused towards him to listen for the thunder, mentally counting off the seconds as she tried to figure out how far away the storm was. Could be far enough away to go outside if she was lucky, and could get some rain gear...

He was glad it was his first assumption about being kept inside instead of something more serious. Being kept in because of the storm was an easy fix because eventually the sky would clear and you could go outside again, not that he couldn’t have still offered an ear to any other problems. “Well they say a little bit of rain never hurt any one but getting struck my lightning,” he jerked a fraction when the thunder hit again. “Getting hit by lightning doesn’t seem like it would be any fun.”

“Oh just things i’ve already read before. About nightmares working for the gods and the adventurers and places they get to see. It’s fun to read different takes on what people think the time and cultures before us did. I think though when my mom was watching the news this morning that the storm will clear up some today. So there hopefully should be time to still climb those trees or you could sneak into the greenhouse, I don’t remember if they have trees or big enough ones in there”

She tilted her head slightly at the shudder and pause in speech, or at least as much as she was able to while it was resting on the table, ears wiggling slightly. Was he...afraid of thunder? "Probably not, that's why I'm cooped up in here. Teachers won't let me go out when it's this bad." A soft sigh as the ticking of the clock on the wall seemed to echo through the room, continually sounding off the potential adventure time that was passing her by. Stupid lightning being dangerous. There was probably magic that could protect her, but none of the school staff would tell her about it.

Her ears perked up slightly as he described the book, fluffy tail moving ever so slightly, nodding from the awkward angle she was laying in. "That sounds neat." Not quite a lie; the book did sound interesting, but she would probably never sit still long enough to read it. "Hopefully it's not too late by the time the storm passes..." She paused a moment at the mention of the greenhouse, eyes drifting as she mapped out where it was on the Academy grounds, before staring down at the table. "Naw, greenhouse isn't attached to this building, and I left my raincoat and boots back in my dorm." There was the possibility though...that he was more of an indoor explorer than she... "Do you...know about the tunnels beneath the buildings?"

“Yeah the stories dont paint a very pretty picture. I hope that you do get to climb the tree. As for the book, I like it. It’s a good way to pass rainy days. At least when I am at the academy. At home we have nezubats and other familiars to play with” huginn replied. He wished he was more outgoing in that then hopefully he could find a better response, or at least be able to figure out a way to offer fun.

“Tunnels... I cant say I know of any tunnels. However I do know the school has underground bunkers, which doesn’t really help you if you want to use the tunnels to get somewhere. It’s not really the same but I know of some haunted classrooms, and some rather abandoned looking hallways and the like that don’t involve going outside and getting fried. Then again inside isn’t really as pretty as outside” he spoke outloud. He did wonder why tunnels though.

She settled against the table some more as he continued, he seemed more content with being alone inside than she did. "Don't have any familiars of my own, I like finding wild ones, but I'm not in my dorm enough for them to have a good life." That and something about keeping them as pets would almost...ruin the magic of seeing their native habitats for her. Something about it didn't jive with her.

Her ears perked up at the mention of a bunker beneath the school. It wasn't outdoors, but that seemed like a possible adventure. Maybe...the other stuff too, but at the very least it might be more interesting than watching the storm do its thing. "Underground...bunkers? Do you know where they are?" Her mind started racing with possibilities, what they could find, secrets to uncover. Perhaps just a place to hang out when the weather didn't want to cooperate.

“Hmm you might do well with a nezubat then. The ones my mom calls her own are prettty adventurous and two of them actually follow her around when she goes to dig sites and at night time they will go off to do their own thing. Some days they even bring back friends for a while. Ah or bats might not be your thing either. I know not everyone likes them. We just kind own a nezubat shelter for lack of a better term, so I know a lot about them” huginn suggested and then paused. He sounded a little salesman pitchy there which wasn’t his intent. After all familiars while wonderful weren’t always everyone’s cup of tea.

“I vaguely know where it is. I was a lot younger last time it was used and was at a different shelter but I wanted to get research in case something like that ever happened again. Best place I guess to start to find it is the cafeteria” he answered trying to remember where it was from the map he had last looked at.

Her ears wiggled slightly as she thought about it, she was certain she had seen nezubats somewhere nearby. "Maybe I'll try that, next time I come across some. Worst case they go back home if they're unhappy, yeah?" She had a fairly good idea of what they liked to eat, and liked to lure various familiars she found closer so she could coo at them and look them over for a little bit.

Stretching, she shifted out of her chair, tail carefully curling next to her. "Wanna look for it with me then?" She picked up her backpack, slipping her arms through it while she waited for a response, making it fairly clear she was going either way. Luckily getting to the cafeteria didn't require going outside.

“Yep just leave them a way to fly out at night and you’ll know if they are happy because they’ll come back. I wonder if that was the inspiration for that quote if it was meant to be yours let it go and it will return to you” huginn pondered but it wasn’t really important. He was glad she didn’t seem to be put off by the whole thing. Everyone needed some sort of companion in life and pets if you treated them right tended to love you back with out judgement.

Huginn looked back at his book and then back to where he knew the way to the bunker was. It probably wasn’t the best idea but he had been the one that had spoken up about the bunker. He would go, although just in case he already started drafting his apology speech to his mom and dad..
