MISSION 004 - APARTMENT HUNTING Location: Downtown or Uptown Witzend, any new development found in the city.
Requirements: 2-4 agents, you may be powered but it is suggested that you enter as civilians to keep from drawing too much attention.
Debriefing: One of your own has been captured by the enemy! You don't have a lot to go off of but there's been reports of squatters in the new apartment developments and sightings of tents ♠️STEP ONE:Turns out there's a lot of new development happening in Witzend and you'll have to pick an area to start.
One player must roll 1d4 to determine their location:
Quote: 1 - After some deliberation, you decide to check out the new development where there's rumored to be a lot of tents popping up in Uptown Witzend. 2 - You chose to explore Downtown Witzend, where new businesses are under construction. 3 - Not far from the Crimson Hotel is three or four half finished complexes, you decide to explore there. 4 - Having heard rumors about some squatters, you decide to check out the string of development that leads up to Downtown Witzend.
♠️STEP TWO:Now that you've picked your location, it's time to start your search. You're hoping to find information that'll help you reclaim your captured ally, or even find them, but you'll take any information at this point.
Each player must roll 1d6 to determine if they find anything of interest:
Quote: 1 - There's construction tools that look abandoned and you find an worn, orange safety helmet but there's nothing interesting. 2 - You find what appears to be fresh footprints in the soften ground around the building. Curious, you decide to follow them. (Quote Nuxaz) 3 - A mouse skitters past you. You're startled but no worse for the wear. You find nothing interesting. 4 - Lighting isn't so great once you're inside and when you turn the corner every part of you is on high alert. Someone is right in front of you! In a panic you lash out. It turns out to be someone you came with. Whoops... (You run into the person who posted above you!) 5 - Entering one of the buildings you make your way into a room, there you find a collection of items. Most of it is trash, but there's some blankets and half eaten food. Upon further inspection you find that most of it is fresh. (Quote Nuxaz) 6 - As you're picking your way through pieces of lumber, concrete, and construction, you spot a white cat. (Quote Nuxaz)
♠️STEP THREE:
For the most part the search isn't exactly helpful and you're all starting to get frustrated and antsy. Still, you keep searching.
Each player must roll 1D6
Quote: 1 - You found someone! Oh wait, it's just a drunk...who slurs at you and throws their empty bottle at you. 2 - You spot a tent that's moving around a lot. Upon investigation you find it filled with rats who promptly bite you. Ouch! (Lose 2 HP) 3 - While you're scouting you catch sight of someone who looks like they match one of the descriptions filed in the reports. You know glamour likes to trick you and you decide to take a chance and confront them. (Quote Nuxaz) 4 - You find a room with a set of chairs and ropes. One of the chairs looks like it's been smashed and that there was a struggle. While you can't find any other evidence, you make note of it to check the surrounding area. 5 - You hear voices as you climb up unfinished stairs with care. Hold on...Could it be? (Quote Nuxaz) 6 - For one reason or another you find yourself alone and suddenly someone is shouting at you. Before you can react, you're hit and knocked out! (Quote Nuxaz)
OOC At the conclusion of the mission, please have 1 character fill out a mission report. You may simply fill out the form in the mission hub or write a solo/reg for it. If you hit 0 HP at any point, Quote Nuxaz for a special interaction! Successful completion of the mission earns you tangy crumpet (This may only be used once to regain 4HP) and may be claimed TWICE.

It had taken a few days for her next mission to come in, with Ashley expecting it to be a follow up on one of the previous two missions that she had been on - or maybe more surveillance.
It wasn't. Instead it seemed that a fellow agent had been captured by the enemy and they were being tasked to follow up on reports of squatters in the new apartment developments and/ or some tent sightings.
It seemed that she would be working under a General this time around, although for now it seemed that they were to be powered down, which was why she was waiting at the agreed meeting place as Ashley rather than as Reinerite. There was also a Lieutent, Ashley recognising Emilia from previous information gathering sessions.
Reports of squatters... It really wasn't much to go on, but it was at least somewhere to make a start.Seiana_ZI Hope this works as a start, but please lmk if I need to tweak anything stari_maga Also I tend to do starter posts before any rolls, but am happy if either of you want to go ahead and roll <3

In some ways, things had been explained to Emilia. She had been informed of the military aspects of her duties early on, and of course she had paid attention at the initial breeding and seen the ruins, and then of course the hat shop as well. Now someone was missing as well, captured by the enemy, which brought the stakes even higher. This was a far cry from from writing gaming articles in her cute cubicle at Argent Industries. Still, she'd been doing well at finding out information so far, and she wasn't about to stop now when these skills were needed most. Another group had apparently heard something about squatters, which meant their meeting location was at an area still under construction a bit of a walk away from the now familiar downtown area. Despite putting extra effort into being early, she found that Ashley had once again beaten her to the scene, which led to a brief frown, but one that was quickly smoothed over. They had more important things to worry about. "Ashley, hi," said Emmy as she approached, her voice considerably quieter and more clipped than it had been on their previous excursions. She kept it at that until the General decided to show.

Damien had been, for the most part, left to his own devices, which had allowed him to take some time and independently research the rumour mills. What were those in Witzend saying? What had they been doing? Which areas seemed to be attracting the most attention, the most eyes, the most words? Through his interactions, he had managed to gather a list of locations he thought might have been worth checking out, and he was holding a small notepad's worth of them when he arrived in front of the two women. From what he had understood, one was a captain, and the other was a promising lieutenant that had been invited along on the mission. He assumed they both possessed talents that would be of use, here. "Hello Ashley, Emilia," he greeted, with a formal nod, before turning his attention out to what was around them. Damien was efficient, not usually one to spend too much time on niceties and greetings once there was a task to be performed. He flipped his small notebook open, scanning over what he had noted down. If either of the two women tried to peek, they'd have trouble making out what it was. Damien's writing was mostly chicken scratch. "While it isn't terribly much to go off of, I believe investigating the reports of squatters may be worth our time. There's a string of development leading into Downtown Witzend that has seen a lot of apparent activity according to what I've overheard. It could be worth checking out."

Quote: 2 - You find what appears to be fresh footprints in the soften ground around the building. Curious, you decide to follow them. (Quote Nuxaz) The brief frown from the approaching blonde had gone unnoticed on Ashley's part as she gave the other woman a brief nod in answer to her greeting "Hi Emilia" and whilst there was no smile this time around, the tone of her voice was not unfriendly.
It seemed that the General that they would both be working under hadn't been that far behind Emilia, Ashley recalling from the notes that he went by Damien when unpowered as the brown-haired man carrying a notepad approached.
"Hello Damien" she said, in answer to the other's greeting her answering nod respectful, grey eyes glancing towards the notepad, although she did not try to make out what was written on the pages.
Instead she listened quietly as he suggested that they check out a string of developments that lead to Downtown Witzend, waiting until he had finished before nodding again "I overheard something about tents apparently appearing out of nowhere whilst on a previous mission" her cool voice was soft "Maybe the two are connected."
Either way checking out the string of developments made sense and - given the little that they had to go on - was as good a place to start as any.
One building in particular caught her eye as they picked their way through the development building sites, her lips quirking down in a frown as she spotted footprints - fresh footprints. "Over there" Ashley keep her voice quiet as she gestured towards them, hoping that Damien and Emilia would notice said footprints too as she angled her direction to better check them out–
Because whilst Ashley knew that they might turn out to be a nothing, she couldn't help but think fresh footprints at time like this that was well outside normal working hours was worth a closer look.Nuxaz for following fresh footprints

At the end of the footprints Ashley would find an...unfortunate sight which was:
Some disheveled looking bloke, pants around his ankles, who was clearly....urinating.
Ugh.
Gross.
He's probably not worth talking to but...

Quote: 6 - As you're picking your way through pieces of lumber, concrete, and construction, you spot a white cat. (Quote Nuxaz) Emmy straightened further as the man who was apparently this mission's General turned up right on her heels. He got a once-over, and her eyes lingered on his notepad. She wouldn't complain about organization, especially from a superior, although if any senshi happened to be around, she thought pen and paper was a bit obvious and old fashioned compared to lists on phones, or even better, Negaverse tablets. "Hello," she said, not unfriendly, and then took another look at the surrounding area. At first glance, it seemed very empty and almost unassuming. "I do think this would be a good place to hide someone." Emmy was careful to keep her voice very low, just in case. She followed close behind as Ashely found and followed a trail of footprints, and she kept quiet, content at the moment to act as support and another set of eyes. With that in mind, she kept a close watch on any nearby windows, walls, and alleyways rather than the path itself, at least when she could. This place was just a mess of splintered wood and concrete, and even just walking in a straight line without tripping took a lot of concentration. Stepping over one of those blocks, she saw the cat. It was a white cat, too, down one of the alleyways a little. There had been very specific reports about a white cat. "Found something," she murmured to her companions with subtle head tilt.

Damien's brows lifted just slightly, taking note of that in his notepad. Interesting. Many large cities did have tent cities, but the idea that these squatters appeared very suddenly was curious. Perhaps they were where the senshi were hiding one of the agents. He headed over to the patch of development with Emilia and Ashley in tow, stopping once he arrived to assess his environment. It seemed that Ashley had located some footprints, though he was uncertain if they led to anything particularly useful, and Emilia had noticed ... something. He wasn't sure what. Damien squinted in that direction, curious if he could see it too. In the process, his eyes fell upon another set of footprints. "Got some more prints here," noted Damien, gruffly. Nuxaz Looks like we got more footprints?

Emmy's voice was soft but still managed to carry to the feline who's ears flicked towards her before it's head lifted. Blue eyes blinked, the star on it's forehead just visible before it hissed and ran off, disappearing into the crowd of tents and people.
It was unmistakable what it was even if pursuit didn't seem likely.
If there was a cat.... Damien would find that the footprints led up to one of the unfinished walls of the building, the inside slightly constructed but the outside unfinished. They stop suddenly and there's no one at the end of the trail even though there are several feet between where they end and the building before them.
Curious.

To say that Ashley was not expecting the sight that she had unwittingly come across would have been something of an understatement, her nose wrinkling in distaste and an unspoken statement of 'eww' because she could have seriously done without the visual.
It didn't seem like the other had seen her, caught up as he was in his business and Ashley started to turn away because the man seemed like some sort of vagrant.
She hesitated, pausing for a moment. Because vagrant or not there was a possibility, small though it was that the other might know something...
And could she really afford to avoid chasing up on anything that could potentially lead to a lead no matter how.. Tenuous?
A quiet sigh, because seriously she sooo did not want to do this, trying her best to keep the disgust from her face and her voice 'worried' as she waited for a few moments in the hopes that he had finished before saying "Uh, excuse me... I was wondering if you've seen a couple of people - young like me"
She'd make it quick, mentally making up and deciding to go with a cover story of looking for some drunk friends to explain her presence on the spot "They were drinking at the Whooka Bar, someone mentioned that they may have stumbled out here."
She wasn't expecting much as a response and wasn't going to waste much time, a brief question that she had try to lace with fake-concern that she was hoping would pass of as the real and nothing more - just to cover bases before she rejoined the others.

The man looked over his shoulder, eyes glazed over and pupils blown in a way that indicated that he was definitely under the influence of something. Squinting, he turned towards her still half in the process of relieving himself.
"S'alot of pe-people who go there," he slurred, swaying where he stood. "If ya talkin bout..." he trailed off, seeming to lose his train of thought.

It seemed that she was not going to be so lucky, the other still at it and - if the glazed expression and dilated pupils of the eyes that squinted in her direction was anything to go on - was also under the influence.
Great.. Just great...
The words went unspoken as Ashley did her best not to look at.. At well it, her grey eyes trying to instead keep looking at the vagrant's face as he slurred a response at her about there being a lot of people, along with a 'If ya talkin bout...' as he swayed visibly on his feet.
"About..?" She started to prompt, before hesitating - because the man was clearly addled and it could potentially look suspicious if she tried to keep questioning someone who was so clearly out of it.
She half-turned, not wanting to completely turn her back on him as she added "Sorry to have bothered you" followed by a murmured "I hope that they're okay" as if speaking to herself.
It was more than time to catch up to the others and see if they'd had more luck.

You know glamour likes to trick you and you decide to take a chance and confront them. (Quote Nuxaz) The cat could either be a sign of something very suspicious going on in the area, or it could be a stray. Emmy was always careful not to jump to conclusions, but in this case she was quickly given more evidence. It had the star on its face, which mean it was one of those stuck-up Mauvians, and the white fur meant it belonged to the enemy senshi. It seemed likely it was the one Ashley had seen before. She just scowled at it as it ran off deeper into the rubble. "Their cat is here," she clarified to Damien, briefly, now that the animal was out of earshot. Then, she decided to follow after its general direction, keeping as quick as she could while still looking casual. A talking cat was about the best lookout that there was, and she wanted to make as sure as she could that it wasn't going off to warn any hostage operations or really any senshi in general and buy them time to move. It didn't take long at all before she spotted another figure, this one a human. It was a human that matched the description she'd been given, too. She knew that it didn't necessarily mean anything, not with how powerful the identity magic was, but it was still lining up neatly and she felt like it was better to be safe than sorry. She carefully reached into her pocket to press the button on her communicator pen, then said, "Excuse me!" She was already crossing the distance between them in case that wasn't enough.

Unfortunately, or perhaps fortunately depending on how one looked upon it, the man that she'd gotten to talk just a bit had completely zone out and was incapable of providing her any better answers or information.
Better luck next time.
Emmy wouldn't find the cat but she'd see a disgruntled looking redhead, long hair piled atop his head in a bun with a bandage across his nose. When she called out to him, red eyes narrowed slightly but shoulders straightened.
As he seemed to unfold his body his expression twisted into confusion.
"Can't help ya, sorry," he grumbled, trying to turn on his heel and vacate the area.

You know glamour likes to trick you and you decide to take a chance and confront them. (Quote Nuxaz) Their cat? Damien's brows raised, immediately moving to take note of that. If there was a cat there, he was definitely on the right track with picking this location. The footprints he saw, retreating, that hinted to him that this was the right location, too. If there was a cat here, there were likely people that cat was trying to hide. There were, so far as he knew, no Chaos cats here, so it was very likely these were hiding the presence of senshi... Pursuing the tracks, Damien found that they eventually ... disappeared, close to the building but not quite close enough. Had they jumped up? "If there is a cat, there are senshi," he murmured, as Ashley approached them once more. "I suspect there are senshi here. These steps suddenly disappear. It seems unlikely that could just happen unless there is someone capable of jumping a great height." After all, the senshi couldn't teleport... Damien watched as Emilia suddenly moved to pursue another lead, at which point Damien assessed his environment to find something else... Or someone else. Damien flashed a 'one-moment' finger to Ashley, turning on a recorder in his shirt before quickly moving towards the suspicious person in the distance. To Damien, he swore they looked like someone he had heard reference to in what had been reported. "Good day! Do you live around here?"
