Lin had been rather busy as of late, between recent explorations outside of his garden to chat with other cats and occasionally wander towards the great beyond, past the Twolegplace and towards the trees. It had been there that he'd met a former kittypet, Thumbs. He wasn't sure what to make of the notion. Adventurous though he was, Lin wasn't certain he could ever be persuaded to leave his Twolegs behind. They loved him and provided him with anything he so desired. This adventurous phase of his, he'd acknowledged, was just that: a phase.

One day, I'll be content with merely sunning myself on the warm stones of the garden, but today is not yet that day. He thought as he leaped up to the fence and started looking around for his companion, Bell.

"Bell, are you awake yet?" He asked as he stalked across the fence. "I've so much to tell you! Come on out!" He called down into Bell's territory from where he stood above it.

Bell had been taking a nap on the windowsill, tail swishing as he basked in the warm glow of the sun. His ear twitched as he heard a sound from the open window. His jaws opened in a wide yawn and clamped shut with a snap. His paws planted firmly on the ground, pushing his body up, amber gaze traveling to see a well groomed kittypet on his fence, Lin! "What is it now, Lin? I was taking my nap!" He muttered like a old, cranky cat, although being not much older than Lin himself. He leaped from the window and sauntered off towards the brown and tan colored feline.

"I'm sure you've nothing important to say." Despite his snappy nature, he'd grown fond of the goUser Imagessipy cat. He sat on the ground beneath the fence, and again, despite his words, his ears were perked to listen to anything the other cat had to tell him.

Lin rolled his eyes with the attitude that Bell sent his way, but he smiled despite himself. Bell couldn't be much older than Lin himself, yet the way he spoke was as though he were an elder who'd traveled through a rose bush: prickly at the best of times.

"Oh? Perhaps I shall not tell you what a squirrel tastes like then, if you're so sure I've nothing of interest to tell." He replied with a cheeky look. Food, he was aware, was one of the few things that caught Bell's interest. And knowing that the tomcat was too lazy to hunt for himself meant that he likely hadn't ever tasted mouse.

However, a quick assessment of the way Bell was looking at him told him the tom was listening and he grinned.
"I met a loner the other day. Another tomcat, a brown tabby with white under his nose. Thumbs, his name is. Don't know what it means, but he had extra toes on his front paws!" He explained. "He caught a squirrel just on the other side of my fence, the one that faces all the trees. I couldn't help, but inquire after it. I didn't see the actual hunt take place, granted, but I saw the blood on his whiskers and smelled it on him, so it must have been his. At any rate, I inquired after it and he offered to share it with me. That's how we really got to talking." He said, glancing out towards the trees.

"He says he lives in the woods, but he used to be a kittypet. He left for the food and the freedom of leaving. Abandoned his collar and went out to try the food of other housefolk, but also to catch his own prey too. He reminded me of you, a bit, since he also seemed to enjoy chatting about food all the time." The only exception being that while Bell was round and soft, this cat had the muscles of one that had to stretch his legs and run up a tree to catch his prey, like the squirrel that had been caught. He shook his head in wonder of it all. "I can't imagine leaving my housefolk for food, not when they supply us with all that we could want, but it's interesting, isn't it? I mean, thinking about it, at the very least. Not actually doing it." He shook himself. No, he couldn't actually do it... could he?

Bell's posture instantly straightened. He'd tried mouse, rat, the occasional gopher that would be unfortunate enough for their dog to find, but never squirrel. They were too good at climbing and, well, Bell wasn't the best at climbing trees. His jumping was quite good from bounding over the fence to get to the other side, but he could never get high enough to catch a squirrel without getting stuck and needing to spend an hour clambering helplessly down branches. "A loner?" The tomcat mewed in astonishment as he listened to the tale. He then snorted. "Truly, a cat like you was interested in eating a measly squirrel? I'd think your twolegs gave you enough dry pebbles." He teased lightly, though, to one not as acquainted with the sassy tom, it might sound like an actual offensive statement. Bell's entire grumpy demeanor changed to one of excitement. "Abandon this solitary home, bland food, and choking collar around my neck in exchange for that paradise? How could one not take that opportunity? Oh how I wish I had met him. Maybe I could have gone off with him!" He purred at the thought, his tail swishing over the ground.

Lin grinned the moment that Bell shot up. He knew that would be enough to get the tomcat's attention. He was pleased that his news finally got through to the lazy cat, but he laughed when Bell suggested running off with Thumbs.

"You? Leave your housefolk? Don't be silly, Bell." He snickered. "Perhaps some kittypets can survive out in the woods, but others are not. I think you have it quite well off in your own house. Besides, your Twolegs would surely miss you too much if you were to wander off." He added. "Not to mention me. I enjoy your company and I would worry far too much about what hawk carried you off to its nest for its chicks if you tried to leave." If the hawk in question could even get this lump of a cat off the ground, he added to himself.

"If he comes around my yard again, I'll come by within to introduce you. How's that sound?" He proposed. "But enough about Thumbs, let me tell you about the most glorious cat I met!" He said with a lovestruck look.

Bell narrowed his eyes, once more in his state of grumpiness. "What do'ya mean by that, little kit?" He asked with a huff. He called other cats that when he was upset or offended, as though he was any more mature than them. "I could easily leave, they wouldn't question a thing!" The tom argued fervently. "You could always just come with me. You're mature enough to survive with my help." He raised his head high. "Either way, you best be bringing him by when you see him, if you don't and I find out, you'll be the next mouse I eat!" He stated firmly, though his threats were empty.

Lin let out a purr of amusement at the indigence in Bell's mew. He waited until the other was done, flicking his tail until he finally mewed.
"If you are earnest in leaving, friend, I may accompany you, just to make sure that you don't end up starving under some tree." He purred. "Though I daresay we both may end up crabby old elders, if we ever try to leave our Twolegs. Not everyone can be as well off about it as Thumbs, it would seem." He mewed with a shrug.

"Now, if you're not going to listen about my stories about my wonderful Lady Tart, I'm afraid I'll have to leave you." He said, getting to his paws and making his way towards the fence that would intersect with his own den. Would the tomcat let him go or be willing to hear him swoon? Lin couldn't say for sure.

Bell huffed, acting all pouty and annoyed as he spoke. "Yes, yes, I presume you are right." He decided angrily. He hated to admit that he wouldn't be able to survive out alone in the forest, but it was likely the truth.
The toms ears perked as Lin began to leave, though. Lady Tart? Now, who was that? Oh! Lin did mention a she-cat, didn't he? "No! I'll listen to you!" He said quickly, following after the other tom. He also hated to admit that Lin's company was a highlight of his days, having a cat to talk to.

Lin looked over his shoulder at Bell as he expressed interest in hearing about his she-cat.
"Oh? What's that, you're interested in hearing about her? Well, I suppose I could tell you..." He said, before he turned around sharply, facing Bell as his eyes shone, his tone changing. "She's someone that I was introduced to very recently. She was transported to my den and when she walked out, she had this most alluring voice. She was so straight to the point, but she was also fluid. I could've stared at her for days." He sighed. "Her fur was like the night sky, but also like freshly fallen snow, and her name was Lady Tart." He purred, relaxing onto the fence with a dreamy gaze.

"I wish I knew where she resided, so that I might see her again. At least I know that she will carry out kits and that they, wherever they might be, will be beautiful." He purred.
