Sitting in class bored, Facette daydreamed of the day they would be making shinies for clients. Shinies, or jewelry as most would call it was their dream occupation.
There was not any metal, gem, stone, or natural element they could not render into jewelry of some kind. Their ability to see something and imagine it as something else has always been easy for them. Their Mother always said they had an eye for beauty and as such should use it to show it to the world.
They did not dislike school, it just felt restrictive. Their creative juices could not flow in most of their classes and it felt off to them. Stymied almost as if their creativity would not flourish when it was time for them to actually do jewelry.
Some of their pieces were showcased in local stores for sale and one day one of the shopkeepers contacted them in regards to a specific piece. The person who purchased the necklace was intrigued by the overall design, choice of stones, metals and gems. Questions were asked about the maker and the shopkeeper felt uncomfortable giving a lot of personal information out. They agreed to contact the maker and pass along the contact information which they did.
Facette was stunned that someone like their work to this degree! They felt like they were slithering on air as the old saying goes.
Waiting to get home was torturous since it was a busy time of day, most were getting off work or shopping so it took some time to make their way home.
Once there they picked up the phone and contacted the buyer, polite introductions were given then questions were asked and answered. The buyer identified himself and to Facette's astonishment was speechless. The buyer was a well-known jewelry maker and shop owner in this own right. To have him of all people admire their work was heart stopping. The exhilaration they felt was indescribable but none the less they had to speak.
The more they talked to more appreciative they became of the male on the phone, it was amazing just speaking to him about jewelry let alone their own design! Then suddenly he asked Facette if they would be interested in an internship at his shop. He believed Facette was worthy of such a position and wished to help further their career.
Since the school allowed such things, Facette readily agreed and the details of when and where would be fully hashed out in the upcoming days. Now all that was left was to inform his teachers and the Headmaster as soon as possible.
Ending the phone call on a polite note, Facette sat down to compose the letter requesting early graduation to the Headmaster. Facette knew the importance of relaying critical information as to why, whom and where the internship was to take place.
Taking their time, the letter was slowly written. Read and words removed and retyped. Facette was not the greatest typist but this letter had to be neat, professional and explanatory.
It seemed to longer Facette typed the harder it was to get the wording just right. Sighing in frustration, they stopped typing and got up to move around and give themselves a break from that task.
Their room was a mess it needed to be cleaned and they decided to do this mundane task to decompress from the letter. Their was some dirty clothes in the corner, picking all of it up and putting in the hamper in the corner. Then they turned to notice clothes that needed to be hung up so they opened the closet door and began to place on hangers to hang. This task was one they hated but it was necessary. Once that was complete, they stripped their bed and put on clean sheets. Putting the dirty ones in the hamper.
The floor was relatively clean, it was done every morning so that did not need to be done. The only other area that was messy was their desk. Blowing out a loud sigh they began to gather papers needed for classwork and putting in their folders in the drawers. Removing wrappers from candy and empty drink containers and tossing in trash. Before long the desk was clear and organized.
Needing more time to relax before tackling the letter for a second time, they decided on making some food. Making their way to the shared kitchen area they searched the area and decided on making a grilled cheese sandwich with some lunch meat. Getting the ingredients out and ready it did not take long before the sizzle was heard due to the sandwiches in a hot pan on the stove. It smelled amazing while cooking they made themselves a tall glass of tea. A few minutes later the food was done and they sat down at the table and began to eat letting their mind wander. Taking their time and relaxing they were enjoying the food. Cleaning up when finished only took a few minutes as they cleaned the pan and washed the dishes the placed them to dry.
Making their way back to their room they once again sat at the desk and stared at the screen. Re-reading the words already typed not liking some of the words, deleted some and began again.
Letting their mind go blank and thinking about what this Internship meant for their career they began to type not just words but feelings. The words poured out from their fingertips and before long it was a 3-page letter explaining how an internship with a very well know jewelry maker and designer was a privilege not many were given. Facette knew the significance of this once in a life time offer and they were determined for the letter to be perfect and convey their feelings about securing the internship and what it would mean for their career.
Taking a few moments to decide on the last few lines of the letter, the words were typed and the closing was finished. Deciding on using Sincerely, was a decision they went back and forth on but decided it fit the body of the letter.
Saved and then printed Facette picked up a pen and signed it with a flourish. Finding an envelope they addressed it in a beautiful script and put it in their bookbag to mail in the morning.
