That numb feeling her muscles had when left alone for two days was starting to set in, reminding her they were unused, untested, and had rested far too long. Rest was necessary, yes. Being worn to the bone while raising 2 little girls was absolutely unacceptable, but it was in those times the girls were at school, or with their friends, that the unease set in. Another mid-afternoon gym visit was in order, hardly the first one that week based on the familiar wave between Lee and the young woman at the front desk. "Marcus isn't in today. Had a...rough night, if you know what I mean," she explained, producing so easily the image of the man laying out on his bed after a bit too much alcohol a bit too far into the morning. "Of course he did," Lee stated simply, taking her card back and offering a silent thank you before picking a machine of her choice. Which that day was one of the leg curlers - something she had to adjust to fit her legs more easily, done with a quiet efficiency which usually lead to her being left alone when there were any others in that day. Usually there was, and she'd not acknowledged any of them. She'd been blessed to not have to deal with the type of gym goers who wants to watch her use machinery creepily, at least.

A short (haha) while later, the young woman at the front desk greeted another regular at the gym."How's the back today, feeling any better?" "Yeah, it is!" Perrie grinned, flashing his card at her. "I'm taking it easy like the physical therapist said. Nothing too strenuous, no riding races, breezes are okay, blah blah blah." Of course, he was self-medicating with magic mushrooms again, largely to beat the creeping depression that had risen up since his wreck at the racetrack. Getting back on horseback was helping a little too, but he found that getting high was the only thing that really lifted him out of it. He was cruising along on a nice mellow buzz even now. Waving cheerily at the girl, Perrie headed for the equipment. He wanted to work his legs today; apart from his back, his legs took the biggest beating while riding, and they'd been aching after exercising horses all morning. That kind of thing would never do for a jockey. There was someone on one of the leg curl machines, working out in silence. He'd seen them around during the day but had never engaged them in conversation -- not like they looked like they wanted to chit-chat. But he was curious, and nothing was going to harsh his high today. Perrie shrugged and settled on the machine next to the already occupied one, sporting a friendly smile. "Hey," he greeted as he took off his jacket and tossed it on the floor near the machine. This person was much larger than he thought. Adjusting his weights, he saw how much she (he realized with a bit of surprise) was using and let out a low whistle. "Holy s**t, that's some poundage. You lift?"

She'd barely registered the young man who had taken up the machine next to her at first. Enough that she knew he was there and he'd been, in a leap of logic not understood by any living being, already assigned to 'don't go near my sisters, not for you'. For a moment, it was perhaps on this thought she was going to leave him, not rushing to answer his casual question with any sort of urgency. It was only after a few moments she slowly turned to look at Perrie, expression mute and unchanging as she looked at him, then at the machine he was setting up, then back to her own. "Sometimes. I use all the machines," her voice was sharp, but not mean. But it was unhelpfully short, offering nothing further with ease.

"That's good, so do I," Perrie replied, standing and walking around to the seat. "I usually work out in the jockey's room at the track, but they don't have all the different machines there but they do here and I need to use them all to get the workout I need to get back into riding form." His words were fairly rapid-fire and delivered with a smile and without much of a pause for air until he was done. He didn't register any emotions from his new workout buddy, but he rarely did with anyone. And he was still nice and high, so he missed a lot of subtle things. Plopping his rear down on the seat, Perrie adjusted it forward to accommodate his lack of height and hooked his feet under the foot rest as he prepared to start his leg extensions, figuring he'd switch to actual curls later to strengthen his hamstrings. He lifted his legs experimentally and groaned in delight. "Oh man, I got the weight just right. This feels soooooo good." He continued to do his leg extensions, occasionally making little happy ow-this-hurts-so-good noises, managing about twenty reps before stopping for a rest. "I love working out," he grinned at the woman next to him. "It just feels so awesome, right? I love the burn and feeling my muscles doing their… muscle thing. My name's Perrie, by the way," he added without any change in inflection. "I've seen you here before -- do you come here often? You just working out to stay in shape? I do it cause it's part of my job."

For all the information Perrie was offering up about himself, Lee was just as quick to offer none of it back to him, listening in silence as he talked about the machines, his work (a jockey? Like with horses?), or how the machine was treating him, how his muscles felt for working out, who he was. Maybe her lack of caring for back and forth just made her an appealing sounding board, and at the very least Lee didn’t seem bothered by the constant stream of chatter, nodding along occasionally when she realized he was still talking to her. “Lee,” she answered to his introduction, more focused on the machine and her own reps than most of the blather. But answering questions was considered polite - and she had to be a good example for Raena and Radiata. “My job is physical, I risk less injury when my body is at it’s best. I do better at my job when I am at my best.” Short. Pointed. Guarded. The trademarks of her way of speaking, perhaps.
