You are on the fourth floor.

You're not quite sure how you got here; maybe you got shuffled along with the crowd, maybe you came up here willingly, but regardless, you are here and you are now trapped.

You know who you are. You know you are a senshi, or a Negaverse agent, or a civilian. But you also know you are someone - something else.

Quote:

IN YOUR VERY FIRST POST PLEASE ROLL 1D6:

  • 1 - You are a trapeze artist. You remember distinctly the thrill of letting go of the bars, of knowing your partner will catch you as you fall. You remember the rush of air and the slap of your palms against your partner's and the weight of their body as you tumble through the air. And you can see the circus spread out in front of you, as vivid as a sunset. But you also remember who you are normally. The two different lives collide; you can see both waving in and out like a badly tuned television set; sometimes you can see the circus, and sometimes you can see the warehouse of the Celebration. The visions are confusing and tangled; you can't quite separate reality, because while you know your true identity, you would also swear that the other identity is real too.

  • 2 - You are a lion tamer. Unlike most circuses, you are kind to your animals. You treat them well. You know how to handle them, and they trust you. You have done this for years and years. It is familiar to you, the scent of their fur and the heat of their pelts and the roar of their kind.

  • 3 - You are a tightrope walker. You have trained for years for this and all of the callouses and the bruises on your feet just show that you have spent your life dedicated to this art. You thrill at the height and the adrenaline rush of being so high up, and you can see the wire stretched out in front of you.

  • 4 - You are a clown. You find joy in being ridiculous, in being an entertainer to the masses. You have the routine down to a T, so that you're always aware of your audience, and they adore you. You live for the applause, and you can hear it, see the excitement on their faces as you perform.

  • 5 - You are a knife thrower. You have trained for years for this as well, and you are very good at what you do. You can feel the pulse of adrenaline that stems from just missing something - or someone - by inches. In fact, you're ready to show your stuff right now. You can see your target board in front of you. Whatever is in your hand is your knife, and you are ready to throw.

  • 6 - You are a ringmaster. You are the star of the show, the leader of the pack. It is up to you to decide how things go; you direct everyone, you provide for everyone, and you perform for everyone. You would do anything for your troupe, and you can see how hard they have worked over the years. You have made dozens of connections, and you thrive on the limitless joy of being the center of attention at the front of the crowd that you can see all cheering you on.

Something is wrong.

You can sense this, even with the haze of confusion, the noise, the chaos. Your surroundings fluctuate along with your memories; it's hard to tell what's real and what is an illusion, but in the most lucid of moments, you can tell that this is an illusion, even if the memories feel very real - but there is something unstable about them, something not quite grounded. You know you need to figure out how to break free of these illusions, but you're not sure how.

There has to be something in the room that can help you.

Quote:

PLEASE ROLL 1D100 IN EVERY POST FOLLOWING THE FIRST:

  • 1-10 - You have found...something. Please quote kuropeco.

  • 11-20 - While you are trying to figure out what is happening, you have a memory of someone that you know, but not in your current life; it is a circus memory, but it feels very real, even if it's not.

  • 21-30 - You have a vision of yourself doing something not quite right in the circus. It fades in and out, but it is a slightly unpleasant memory.

  • 31-40 - You are reminded of something terrible that has happened in the circus while you were performing. It feels very real.

  • 41-50 - You see an illusion of something joyful that has happened to you in the circus.

  • 51-60- You stumble across someone with whom you have a connection with in the circus, but not in real life.

  • 61-70- You feel a strange sense of sadness for a memory that you would swear didn't happen to you in real life, but in the circus.

  • 71-80- You have a vision of a time in the circus that made you very angry at someone, but it's not someone you would normally be angry at in real life.

  • 81-90- A peaceful memory of a gentle time in the circus overtakes you. Your heart feels very comforted in the memory, but it's not real - or is it?

  • 91-100- You have found...something. Please quote kuropeco.

Quote:

OOC NOTES:

  • You are free to power up here. The illusions are distorting everything, and while you should definitely still not be obvious about it, you can still do so without too much issue. The fluctuating visions keep identities from being discovered easily.

  • Your character is essentially trapped between two lives - the real one and the illusion of their circus persona. They know who they are, but the circus lives feel so real and have a very real impact on them in spite of this. Everything is confusing and overwhelming.

  • You are free to make connections with other people for the memories, but make sure that you have OOC permission from people before you write something about their character.

  • Friendly fire is allowed! Fight, don't fight, whatever you want to do.

  • If you have any questions or concerns or would like something specific to your character, please let me know!

Suri cannot remember who she is. She is entirely immersed in her illusion and cannot seem to recall anything about her current life. All she is aware of is her circus identity, and right now the people are attacking her; protesters with torches and fire. She cannot distinguish friend from foe.

Suri Ellis

There was no ache so vast that it could not be conquered by the feeling of letting go, the rush of the flight, the steady hands of a team that could be trusted without question. With the wind in her hair, Suri felt more alive than anything she experienced stuck on the earth below. Why would she worry about the way she walked on the ground when in the air she soared?

At least, that’s how it usually worked. She would chalk up her hands and climb to places that the world couldn’t reach her, and from the top of the world everything else was small and fragile, not her. But there are those would take offense to her lifestyle, her survival, and though she was not a soldier herself she would be called to defend it if she wanted to keep it hers.

She lingered near the edge of the ringmaster’s circle, a fistful of curtain she thought was rope in one hand and ice in her gaze, watching the mob approach. Though her heart fluttered like a caged canary, she stood steady against them, thinking of the best way to proceed. The protestors might have fire and weapons, but she knew the catwalk better than any pitchfork-wielding buffoon, and there were plenty of weights she could untie loose if she could just get there before she was restrained.

Suri glanced down to a sandbag holding her ‘rope’ in place. She couldn’t walk there--but she could fly, if she could just cut herself free. “No closer,” she snapped at the figures, faces obscured by the flickering lights of their torches, but she could imagine the way their features were twisted in hate and misunderstanding. She had neither the time nor the patience to educate, not when her way of life was on the line. Instead, she squared her shoulders and looked around for the gleam of a knife, something to fend them off or cut her free.

Nora Roll

Nora wasn't a powered personal. She was a nail artist. She did make up and she was a secretary for Steele Moore. She was a pretty princess here, but it all disappeared.

She was in the ring, taming lions, showing the people how giant cats could be gentle and sweet. They roared but they never hurt her. And when the shows were done, she thought about a boy with blue hair and blue eyes....

The name on the tip of her tongue.

"Alright cats." Nora moved into one of the cages and gently pet one of the lionesses.

Amphitrite

The second anything had gone wrong, Desdemona had reached for her henshin pen, and when the lights came back on, it was Amphitrite that stood there, teeth gritted and ready for whatever bullshit was coming for her this time.

Except it wasn't an attack, at least not physical - it was one of the mind, and one that she was no at all equipped to ward off. That's right. Juliet. She had to go take care of Juliet. Her fingers ached for the feel of that familiar fur beneath her fingers, "Where is Juliet?" she asked aloud to her husband, her brow furrowed and lips pursed as she touched his arm. She never went far.

The look on her face shifted from confusion to outrage, and she dragged fingers to her temple, shaking her head. No. No, this wasn't right. This was Otto. He was not her husband, but he was. "What the hell?"

Otto Moor

He was only dimly aware of the change in attire beneath his hands and the soft brush of floor length hair against the back of his arms as he drew his date in close to him, pale eyes straining in the dark, and having next to no chance to adjust before the lights were up again and it wasn't Desdemona standing in the circle of his arms, it was Amphitrite.

"Amph..." Her name fell from his lips softly, voice trailing off as tanned features took on a far away look, eyes unfocused. He could smell straw and sawdust and animals. He could hear music, laughter, a multitude of voices in loud cacophony on all sides, too close to be real. He blinked, pale brows drawing in before the brush of a soft hand against his arm pulled his attention back down to his wife. Where was Juliet? The lion was conspicuously absent from where she'd usually be resting near Desdemona's feet.

"Maybe with the other lions," he suggested as he glanced around, only to frown deeply as the world seemed to shift around him again and Otto found himself standing in an entirely different room altogether holding onto a corrupted senshi who seemed equal parts pissed and puzzled.

His grip tightened around her. "What just happened?" He felt ridiculously exposed standing with her like that, and all at once was looking around them for a dark corner to duck into so he could power up as well.

Fleur Willis

It was almost time for the show. The thrill of it settled deep in her chest while she did her final warm up stretches behind the curtain, leaning backwards until her back popped, which seemed like it happened too soon and sent a spike of pain up and down her spine.

She shook it off and rubbed her hands together instead. It was fine. She knew her choreography. She'd been going over it for week after week, show after show. Tonight was going to be marvelous.

She took a step out towards the Ringmaster's Circle proper and almost tripped over a long, violet skirt where she could have sworn it was supposed to just be her bare legs coming out of her leotard shorts. Was that the cool floor under her feet or was she in heels? Everything spun.

Looking down, she saw her long, lacy skirt. Of course. She had gone out to that art thing.

Another wave of thoughts came at her, reminded that she needed to get ready, but in the other half of her mind, her blood ran cold. A circus. The Negaverse's favorite trick. She should have known.

They'd stopped it twice before, they could stop it again. Her eyes flicked to a woman yelling and looking around, a woman dressed in a trapeze outfit like her own. Was she the one at the root of this?

It very much seemed like it.

Fleur ran across the intricate tiles of the open floor, not thinking to power up with the way the different realities were flashing through her head. "Stop this!" she called out, her eyes narrowing quickly. Then she went for the shove, with all the grace of someone used to being much stronger.

Nolan sighed as he looked at the rest of the group. They seemed to be performing well at least. Though he hadn't seen anyone else besides the trapeze artists and the lion tamers. Where was everyone else? They should have been here... here... was here right? Was he supposed to be here and watch everyone else? He felt like that's what he was supposed to do, and yet there was something off about all of this.

Circus... this was a circus... what was bothering him so much about being in a circus? This was his job right? But he still had a feeling in his gut that something wasn't right. He was only 18 years old! How could he be a ringmaster?! He was a cook... wasn't he?

He sighed again and put one hand to his head, rubbing in a bit. He was standing outside of the ring now, watching as the various performers came in. Though he could have sworn that he recognized them from the party? He didn't want to do anything yet. This whole situation was off. It was like he had been warned about this, but he still felt compelled to do his job?

Wait, he had been with someone before this. "Lori?!" Where was she? He had been with her, she had been there by his side, and they had felt creeped out... she had to be here right? He started to look around frantically for her.

There he was. That precious, ferocious beast that she had spent years forging a bond with. No one else could be more perfect for this job. Lori dug her face in the Lion's mane, giving the hulking cat a big hug. A deep rumble escapes the lion's mouth. She knew that if he could purr, he would. The big lug. She had always been great with animals.

Except, wait. She didn't have a single pet growing up. That wasn't true though, was it? She had Thor after all (of course the Lion had a manly name). But...wasn't she just at a party? Slowly she removed her face from the poofy lion mane and looked. At first she just saw other performers. Even the Ringmaster was here. They looked familiar to her, as fellow circus performers yes.But also as people she had seen in passing on her way to get some food.

It wasn't her idea to dig in at the buffet though. Dancing! That was what she had wanted to do. Maybe she could work on a dance routine with Thor? That would be totally epic.

Someone was calling for her. Thor seemed to be familiar with that name, he let out a fierce roar and Lori laughed. That's right, she had been here with Nolan and holy crap there was a lion right here why had it not eaten her? Well, because they had a bond of course.

It would be rude to not answer a call from the ringmaster though. So she sauntered on over to him, Thor waited patiently where she had left him. "What's up boss? Something the matter? You don't think Thor is too nervous to perform. Do you? He's such a shy little kitty, but he always pulls through for the show!" Lori might be buying into the Circus thing more then she should have. But hey, at least she was here and in one piece. Somewhere in her head she did recall that they would stick together. That was worth something at least.

Suri Ellis

Suri saw one of the protesters sprinting in, torch raised and shouting, and her expression paled, hands tight around the coils of curtain in her hand. To her fingers, it still felt like the spools of rope she would need to escape to the rafters, but she felt so frozen in place that she simply waited, wide-eyed, until she was shoved and staggered back. If she hadn't been holding on to her lifeline she might have fallen to the floor, only to be trampled--as it stood, she clawed her way back up to standing, staring down Fleur with a nervous but determined gaze. If she didn't fight, she would have no home, no friends, no future. All she would be was some sob story with no chance at being seen as whole.

"Go away," she hissed, grabbing fistfuls of curtain like it was coils of rope. "I can't stop being what I am, and I won't stop existing because--you find it unappealing." She threw the curtain at Fleur, who still appeared to her as faceless and threatening, and then she backed away towards the wall, scouring the room for ways up into the rafters of her home. In the ropes she wouldn't limp. In the air she could fight back.

Amphitrite

Trapped. This was a trap.

"They're in our heads. They're - "

Amphitrite inhaled deeply, trying to ward off the dual vision. But she couldn't. Juliet. "Maybe. Maybe she is. But it's unusual for her. Do you think she's sick again? No, not after so long, I - why the hell am I still worrying about this?!" she snapped, pushing away from Otto as she grappled with the desperate need to return to his arms and where the ******** was her lioness?!

There was no lioness. There was none, but then there was, and she gave a sigh of relief that soothed her down to her toes as she sank down onto the floor beside her, wrapping her arms around her neck. She could smell her, feel her. "God, thank god I was so worried." She shouldn't have been, but she was always such a worrywart when it came to Juliet. She always had been, ever since she'd come into Amphitrite's care.

Nothing is there, she kept trying to tell herself. But it felt so damn real...

Snap out of it, for ******** sake.

Nissonite

Amphi pushed away from him with startling force that threw Otto off balance, stumbling him back a step or two before his balance was regained. Back against a wall, not in immediate or easy view of the room, it was perhaps the best opportunity he was going to get to power up as well, and he was pulling the cloak of Nissonite around him as he stepped back out into the...

"You found her!" The relief was clear, but was it for the lioness or more for the sake of his wife? A gloved hand came down to rest on the woman's shoulder, thumb stroking back and forth across exposed skin. Just a comforting touch to let her know he was there and with her as she reassured herself that Juliet was there and safe. She was the oldest of the lions, the one most prone to health issues, if anything happened he knew how devastating it would be to lose her.

Knew all too well...

His free hand came up to trace the tips of gloved fingers down the line of a scar across the bottom of one cheek. Goliath hadn't meant to do it, He believed that down to his core, but it hadn't mattered. Amphi hadn't been able to intercede for him, and by the time Niss had been released from the hospital the big male had been taken away, destroyed.

It hadn't been his fault, there'd been a loud bang from audience, a balloon had popped, or some kids had snuck in firecrackers. It didn't matter what it had been anymore, but it'd spooked the big male, scared him. He'd lashed out. Niss had had him since he was a young teen, since his parents had introduced him to the show, and losing him had been like loosing a piece of himself.

He had no doubt it would be the same for Amphi...

What is happening? Pale brows furrowed, head dipping as he tried to shake the memories out of his head that didn't belong there. He wasn't a circus performer, he'd only ever seen lions in the zoo, and he wasn't...he wasn't married...
