In an industrialized world such as ours, it becomes easy for nature to fade into the background. But we come to the Kawani Lands to enter a world filled with trilling birdsong and the scent of fragrant blooms. This place brings us hope for a better world. In this free raffle, we welcome each of you to imagine a way in which you can help our planet remember a little bit of its beauty - by helping your fellow creatures!
Please remember the rules, too:Quote: Rules All event rules posted in the main hub apply! Be polite and respectful. Show good sportsmanship. You may not win what you want, but be happy for those that do! Let's spread some good vibes! A win from this free raffle will count toward your cap of one free soquili and one free familiar. Questions should be directed towards the host of the contest or sale you're participating in. (In this case, it's Mahogany Sunset.)
By the way, if you're curious about the pets chosen for this game: glacier biomes, and the flora and fauna which call them home, are threatened by global climate change. Marbled foxes are actually a morph of red foxes - a species threatened in once-native habitats due to over-hunting, the fur trade, and poaching. Giant pandas are threatened by habitat loss and are actually dependent on conservation efforts in some places. Sun parakeets are threatened by habitat loss and trapping for the illegal pet trade. The Araripe manakin is also threatened by habitat loss - deforestation in Brazil. Ammonites, lastly, are actually extinct, thought to have died off during the same event which caused the demise of the dinosaurs. If you're curious to find out what you can do to help prevent these vulnerable creatures and places from disappearing, do some research. Even reducing your carbon footprint might help a bit.

Doing Our Part So, how can you help your fellow creatures?
By doing your homework!
Er... Let's rephrase that.
Some plants and animals can benefit even from the smallest change in our routines. It can be as simple as picking up garbage when you see it or as complex as engineering a water filtration system to clean the ocean. While not everyone has the time or opportunity to do the latter, every little bit helps. Do you have a favorite animal you know is endangered which you would like to help? What can you do now to make a difference? Is the ecosystem in your hometown having a hard time recuperating from a recent flood or fire? How can you support it?
To enter this free raffle, fill out the form below with your thoughts!
Please note: We're looking for non-monetary ways you can help! Volunteer work, organizing efforts, and DIY projects are all great options to choose from.Help a Critter Out! Username: Preference List: Advocating For: [endangered creature/plant, threatened local ecosystem, etc.] What's Your Plan?: [three to four sentences describing what you can do to help and how you think it will affect the being for which you're advocating!]

Help a Critter Out! Username: Summer Raaven Preference List: B Advocating For: Elephants What's Your Plan?: Elephants are endangered due to poachers hunting them for their ivory tusks. I know you said no monetary things, but we as a society need to be aware of what we buy that is made from ivory and not buy it. The demand for it is far too high, thus giving the poachers a market. If society can kill the ivory trade, we can save the elephants! Elephants for all!! All for elephants!

Help a Critter Out! Username: Melomar Preference List: 2, 3, b, 4, a, reroll Advocating For: Threatened local ecosystem What's Your Plan?: There's a field out back of my property that is home to deer, birds, and a mink that I know of, plus probably mice, rabbits, coons and skunks. My area is very windy and it kicks up a lot of garbage that might harm the wildlife. So I propose just picking up trash that blows around regardless of who it belongs to. That way it won't get consumed, harm (cuts, etc), or clog up the creek that runs through it (wetland?). It's not a huge thing but it's something that I can personally do. And maybe if others see me do it they will do it too.

Help a Critter Out! Username: Malikztiah Ankhwave Preference List: 1, 2, 4, 3, a, b Advocating For: The ocean What's Your Plan?: Recycling plastic and stopping use of single-use plastic items (sporks, straws, any and all plastic flatware that is normally thrown into any restaurant To Go bag or box) is a start. I do not live anywhere near enough to personally join efforts, but I support the 4ocean company and their efforts to clean the massive amount of plastics from the ocean. Simply buying a bracelet helps out by funding the removal of a full pound of plastics.

Help a Critter Out! Username: Owlsomniac Preference List: marbled fox, reroll Advocating For: Forest logging reduction What's Your Plan?: Most people already know about recycling, but it's very important to consider recycling paper products when you can. Big boxes are common sense but there are a lot of paper items that can be recycled that many might not think about: paper bags, toilet and paper towel rolls, cereal boxes, powdered detergent boxes, newspaper, mail (shred it first if it has sensitive info but you can usually still recycle it), and many other things. Reducing your paper product consumption also helps. Try reaching out to your local post office about unsubscribing from junk mail that you just throw away, be mindful about not wasting paper for notes if it can be helped (use digital media or invest in a whiteboard or chalk board if you like using sticky notes in your home for chores or small reminders etc). You'll be surprised about how much stuff you can actually recycle and cut back on if you try. smile

Help a Critter Out!Username: Rein_Carnation Preference List: 2, 1, 3, 4, B, A Advocating For: Mexican and Red Wolves What's Your Plan?: Red wolves along with Mexican wolves are highly endangered. The Wolf Conservation center is trying to breed strong lines to introduce to the wild ones, but its a slow process. Reach out to your senators etc, voice your opinions for these beautiful creatures, encouraging them to stop the senseless killing of these essential animals to our ecosystems. They don't have voices as strong as ours, together we can make a difference!

Help a Critter Out! Username: .Tortured. .Pumpkin. Preference List: 2, A, B, reroll Advocating For: Roaring Brook Mayfly What's Your Plan? The Roaring Brook mayfly inhabits a brook in Maine that is in a fairly decently trafficked part of Baxter state park. It lives on and under rocks in the brook until it is mature enough to spawn. I became aware of them during an informative seminar on the marine life of Maine's brooks. These insects are the primary food source for native Maine brook trout in that area, and as the numbers of mayflies have been dwindling, as have the numbers of brook trout. One simple way to combat this is to not disturb their habitat; many people like to go into/beside the brook and make cairns for photo opportunities and such. I visit this park several times per year and knock down the ones I see (as do the park rangers, wardens, etc.), offering the mayflies their natural habitat with more opportunities to hide and thrive.
As an aside; please don't make cairns. It really does have an affect on the local wildlife, even if it seems small and insignificant to you. <3

Help a Critter Out!Username: Niyaru Delacroix Preference List: 2 Advocating For: climate change / red panda What's Your Plan?: I already try and plan / combine trips; if I have to go out for milk or to go visit my in-laws, I make sure to go to the grocery store while I'm out if needed. However I think this could be improved upon because I still have to leave my house now and then for a special trip. I used the carbon calculator available by the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency and learned that I have a lot more that I can do. For my next vehicle I'm going to look into one that gets more mile per gallon. Climate change affects a variety of places, and species. Granted I am only one person but I can certainly contribute and change my life style to help fight the change. Red pandas often get caught in traps meant for other animals but there is cause for concern that climate change could be their ending instead of man. I also plan on having solar panels in the close future to whatever house I may be living in.
