There were issues that soon made themselves very apparent to Arthur when planning a date. During his searching of magazine articles, blog suggestions, and Top 10 Most Romantic Places of Destiny City, he noticed a big trend.
He couldn't go anywhere with Kainite as they both had uniforms that were VERY obviously not normal. Suit and Tie? Nope. Dress? Nope. Formal attire? Nope. Anywhere impressive had a strict dress code and if not stated anywhere, it was heavenly implied that you'd be stared at the entire time
So no fancy places. Fancy places also meant he couldn't kiss Kainite over and over again.
There was also the pressing issue aside from clothes that they both had energy signatures, and Arthur unfortunately had the biggest one of all. Having the equivalent of a light house of Order energy the entire time he was upright meant he couldn't be smack dab in certain places that might attract more Negaverse agents to come to Kainite's aid and happen upon them deep in each other's mouths. The last thing he wanted was for Kainite to be hurt as punishment, to be separated from him, or to be corrupted. Possibly all of them at once.
Sitting at his laptop, Arthur hummed in agitated thought at how to go about setting up a nice first date without getting them hurt or happened upon.
It needed to be private.
It needed to be remote.
It needed to have exits for them to run out if someone found them.
It needed to be indoors so they didn't freeze to death the entire time they were together. Winter was not letting up and the forecast had been snow lately.
After some thinking, he finally had an idea and ordered what he needed for their time.
Kainite had been emailing him back and forth since that night and he sent a meeting place next door to the place he had in mind. There was no need to dress nice or bring anything other than himself.

Wilbur, for his part, had spent a lot of time since that first night glued to his phone - which, granted, hooking his dummy account up to his phone might not have been the smartest thing in the world, but Arthur had promised no prying. He was trying not to be too obnoxious about bothering Arthur, but needless to say the mauvian had no lack of correspondence with Kainite. He'd been asking a lot of questions and telling Arthur a good amount about himself, too - not his job, but how he'd been away from DC for a few years for work and family, how amazing his general was, how great his best friend in the world was (without ever letting on that it was the same person as his general), favorite things, good memories, more about mauvians, things like that. Any question Arthur had, Wilbur was always very happy to answer in detail. It'd been a good time; it was nice to have someone like that to talk to, and he'd basically been on cloud nine right from the start. He'd been thinking about dates too, but Arthur had this one, and it seemed fair to take turns, right? So he waited patiently, and when the invitation came, he was there. Granted, Kainite did bring one thing, tucked nicely into a little bag. Just a small thing.

Arthur had arrived early, tied up a bit best he could with no hands, and scoped the place out. It looked pretty much the same as he always had remembered it and was glad that it was relatively cozy inside. Good thing the heat was still on or he'd be in a real mess.
Waiting outside, he curled up on a step further from the spot where he told Kainite to meet him, having snapshot a map over to the other. As a guardian, he had a relatively small signature which helped him stay relatively undetected inside his own home and left alone. He had to make sure not to wait for Kainite any longer then necessary as a humanoid or else he'd tire too early again from maintaining that form. He wasn't about to miss a chance again to do stuff. This first date was going to be great.
When he spotted the officer showing up, he nearly ran as he was up to him before stopped himself and remembered - change you idiot!
Suddenly a massive energy Order signature flashed like a beacon of light right next to the officer and Arthur turned around a pillar to meet him. "Kain!" He said cheerfully, moving up to him and wrapping his arms about him, pressing his cheek against his. "I MISSED YOU!"
It didn't matter that he was talking to him every single day since they first met. Being able to hold him made it all feel real gain.

Thankfully, Kainite wasn't difficult - he just kind of accepted that Arthur's massive energy signature cropped up like BAM, and when he slid from around the pillar, it was like a light immediately went off in the lieutenant's eyes. "Arthur!" he called excitedly, flinging his arms around the mauvian just as eagerly, rubbing his cheek against Arthur's own. "I missed you too! A lot! So much!" He tilted his face and pressed his lips to the taller man's cheek; seriously, seeing him again was better than getting an energy drink. Also he tasted better, good thing to note. After a moment, "Oh!" he pulled back a little, but only because he had to hold up the bag. "Here, this is yours!" Literally; yes, he'd gone back and saved the mug. It was too sad to leave it.

He smiled at the kiss and went to lean in for his own when he saw a bag lifted up between them. Confusion stunned him and then he felt a heavy sense of guilt. Was he - supposed to have brought a gift too?
"I....I didn't bring you anything." He said, slightly ashamed at this and finding he might have just done something rather disappointing right from the start.
Slowly, he took the bag and opened it up, before a smile spread across his face. Rising up the mug from the bag, he shook his head back at Kainite. "You got it back." He said, looking at the cat mug he had left when they met. It really hadn't been all to much of a big deal that it was gone, but it was a even bigger deal that Kainite went back to even get it for him.
Reaching out, he kissed Kainite. "Thank you, but you really shouldn't have."

Kainite felt pretty awesome about this; it was really about as romantic as it got, right? Especially since it wasn't something new, so it wasn't about a price tag: it was the whole thoughtful thing, and he had kind of been half-waiting for the chance to prove how thoughtful he could be. (Which sounded kind of pathetic, probably, ugh, never mind - he was just happy if it made Arthur happy. He'd put no thought into - no, okay, he'd put just the right amount of thought into it. Perfect.) Feeling emboldened by the whole display (especially seeing the way Arthur was smiling), Kainite leaned up to kiss him back, pressing his hand palm-first flush against the mauvian's chest, and he was grinning as he eased back. "The guy was long gone when I went back for it, " he assured him, "and when I thought about the poor cat sitting there alone and abandoned... he belongs with you." Seriously though, that's why Kainite had a tough time throwing out cute things. Adorable haunted eyes would stare up at him from the trash like 'how could you do this to us?' and then it went to go live uselessly on his shelf forever because that was home. Ugh. He was a total softie for that kind of thing.

He held the cup between his hands and was quiet as he stared back at Kainite. It was just a little cup, but the sentiment that he wouldn't leave a poor cat sitting alone and abandoned touched him so deeply out of the blue that he felt he needed a moment just to keep that all inside and swallow it down. It was sweet, and the idea that it, the cup of course, belonged to someone spoke so much to old fears and worries he had in the past.
Looking down at the cat on the mug, he nodded, trying not to get misty-eyed over a coffee mug. "Thank you...for caring so much." He ran a thumb across the cat's face, it's smiling beaming back at him in a constant state of seasonal happiness.
Clearing his throat, he reached out and took Kainite's hand. "Let's go inside. I have everything set up for our date."
Lacing his finger's with his, he moved him up alongside a walkway and up a set of steps. Old plastered flyers and markings covered the walls on either side as he brought him to the top and set his hand against the glass door.
"No one comes here this time of night. We'll have all the privacy we need." He pushed the door open, creaking as it was pushed open.
Inside were lines upon lines of dryers and washing machines. A old TV set in the wall was off and there was a faint smell of dryer sheets in the air. In a corner, a tablet had been brought over and two chairs. Reaching over, Arthur turned off a few lights to complete the feel as some battery-operated tea candles were set around the places. A basket was set atop a washing machine for later.

Of course, Kainite wouldn't know about any of that - all he saw was Arthur looked visibly touched, or he hoped that's what it was - it had to be that, right? - either way, he was happy with the result. He'd done something nice for Arthur, and the mug was back where it belonged. When his hand was taken, Kainite squeezed Arthur's in return, and his heart thudded a little louder in his chest at the prospect of a real actual date with someone, especially someone as admittedly dashing as Arthur was. "I can't wait, " he said honestly, walking in step with him, flushing a bit at the mention of 'privacy' even if it was as practical as it was intimate. No, it wasn't a fancy restaurant, it wasn't some big party, it wasn't anything like that - but it was a first official date, and as far as Kainite was concerned, this was romantic and private and stolen and perfect. "And you said you didn't bring me anything, " he teased, grinning brightly at him. The ambiance alone was a gift!

His tail swayed in the approval he got from Kainite. "I wanted to find a warm, private place out of the way from people but also wouldn't get us in that much trouble if someone came too close to where we are. Sorry I put up such a huge energy signature. It wouldn't be so dangerous otherwise." He admitted, setting the cup down on a washing machine as he lead Kainite over to the table.
Releasing his hand, he turned to move a chair back and gestured. "For you." He said, offering him the chair to sit. This was one thing he saw a lot on TV. Pushing in a chair for the person you were dating.

With a kind of snort, Kainite patted Arthur gently on the arm. "As if you're doing it on purpose, " he joked with a cheeky kind of grin. "Oh, how dare you exist. - I don't care about that, " and he meant it. Granted, if he did, they wouldn't have been here in the first place. Kainite tried not to get too excited about the 'date' treatment, but it was really really hard not to, and he was pretty sure the last time he'd had a chair pulled out for him, it'd moreso been pulled out from under him. "Are all mauvians such gentlemen?" he asked as he sat down, tilting his head back to peer up at Arthur.

He leaned in to kiss Kainite on the cheek. "I'm only a gentlemen where it counts." He said with a little purr.
Walking past him, he picked up the basket from the washing machine and set it upon his lap before pulling out two take out containers. He set one in front of Kainite, one in front of himself, and then opened a paper bag that had garlic bread.
Then he set a bottle of wine on the table, because everyone had said that dinners had to have a nice drink. He - wasn't sure if this was a nice wine. But it was wine he could order online and that's all that mattered!
Setting the basket aside, he gave Kain some plastic silverware. It wasn't home made, but Arthur couldn't cook. It wasn't a skill he ever was taught and he often just ordered food to be made if he wasn't buying snacks. "I thought spaghetti would be good." Inside each container was a serving size of spaghetti with meatballs not as hot as before but at least still warm.

Inneundo, that was totally an innuendo thing, right? Either way, between that, the kiss, and a rumble of a purr, Kainite felt warmth pooling in his face and the pit of the stomach. He took a deep breath and settled more comfortably in his chair, flashing the mauvian a grin. Admittedly, it was distracting to have this... super real possibility that something could happen (would probably happen??) hanging over his head. That was off the table, yeah, which took some of the pressure off, but there was a whole lot that wasn’t that. He wouldn’t admit to being nervous about it - if nervous was even the right word - but - it wasn’t like he had a plethora of first hand experience to draw on, and even if he knew Arthur didn’t either - Still. A big romantic dinner whipped out of nowhere was plenty to distract him, and Kainite actually gasped, drawing himself up straight in his chair. “Oh my god - and you said you didn’t bring me anything?!” he said again, less teasing and more in disbelief, gaping with shock, but it was clearly a good thing. “This looks so good! And - oh my god, you are so sweet, Arthur!”

"Well remember that when I make a mistake." He chuckled.
"But thank you. I was worried this all might not be - fancy enough for a first date."
There was a always constant buzzing in his chest like a bumble bee that wasn't sure what it should do. A tender nervousness threatening to flicker to full panic if something went poorly. Hiring up a passing Mauvian was never this stressful because it was straightforward and there was the expectation of instant pleasure of just parting ways. There was something about the ceremony involved and all the tiny gestures of human dating that left him far more frazzled and yet working a lot harder than before.
He wanted this to work. His original intent was to find a human to be intimate with and while he had thought this would go much more quickly, he didn't find any degree of disappointment in playing a longer game.
It was nice. He usually only talked business with senshi and Mauvians with a bit of the personal but it lacked the intimacy he was often found of. Back in his mind, he knew there were attachments to how he was viewed and titles he couldn't shake off. He was a guardian. He was looked to for guidance. He was a Mauvian. He'd often be mistaken as a neautered animal devoid of that aspect of his life. He was Order. He was expected to set an example. To be without fault because he was older and should know better.
It's why he had one night stands. The expectations of him we're low. It was freeing and relaxed. No real risks. No real pressures.
But since email Kainite back and forth, he found himself hungry for a bit more. A bit more of THIS life. Where he was viewed differently. Like a man. Mistakes and wants and all included.
Popping the lid off his container, he pulled out two plastic cups and then at the cork screw he bought for the wine. "Do...you know how to use this?' He asked, offering the corkscrew. He never drank.

Kainite laughed with him, although he could hardly imagine Arthur making anything resembling a mistake. Especially not now, sitting here with a thoughtful dinner and all the romantic ambiance he ever could have hoped for. "Are you kidding? - this is literally like a scene from a movie, " and he honestly meant that. Which was honestly about as high of a compliment as he could've paid, considering. It bought to mind all those films where basements or other miserable places became something special, beautiful, intimate all for the sake of one special person. He kind of got goosebumps at the thought that he was actually special enough to Arthur to be someone that got to live out a scene like this. Which was why he wanted to be supremely confident in saying, "I got this, " with his chest puffed out a little as he took the bottle and the corkscrew. Then he got to screwing - - and screwing - - and screwing - This was taking a lot longer than he expected. "Just one second, " and finally, finally, he got there, pulling harder than he expected he'd have to and yelping a little bit at the intensity of the 'pop' - and then laughed, because he'd nailed it. "Got it!"

Arthur watched with wrapped attention was Kain took the corkscrew and stabbed it into the bottle, then started to twist over and over and over again. After a moment, he was about to ask if he got a dysfunctional bottle but he jerked in his seat and covered his ears when it popped open. "Oh. It's open." He said, surprised that it worked.
Dropping his hands, he moved his chair over to be closer to Kain. It didn't make sense for him to be all the way on the other side when he wanted to be closer.
Beside him, he started to figure out how spaghetti worked to eat.
"How has the career been going? Have you had a nice week? I was trying to find a few clips of you online. I saw you on that soap opera before. I was really excited to see you there. You looked a bit younger but not much."
