Courtesy and Ease My Troubled Mind had a gorgeous group of rather polite kids: Inside Voice // Bless Your Heart // By All Means // Please and Thank You // YOUR NAME HERE!....but one of them is still trying to find himself! This buck here is looking for a name, but not just any name will do. It has to be a polite sort of name for such a polite family. Rules:Give us your best polite name. We'll narrow down the choices to our top 5, and roll for the winner between those choices. But, there's a twist! We'd like a story from you, about your own personal experience of having to deal with someone who was being polite, but was still coming across as annoying (or even slightly rude, despite the politeness) Ends 9pm PST on 02/12My polite name: My story:

My polite name: May I My story: I'm sure we've all had those times, wither we're in a spat with out loved ones or having been scolded by our parents when we've had to grit our teeth and hiss out "May I go now?" in order to remove ourselves from the situation.

My polite name: After You My story: This happened last week: Me and my 4 year old were at the local Community Center. He wanted the attention of a lady to give her a toy and was calling out, "LOOK AT ME! LOOK AT ME!" The lady said to him that you should use my name if you would like my attention and that that is the polite way to do it. She asked him if he remembered her name and he said yes, Gwen. He handed her the toy then she said "Thank you LOGAN." My childs name is Liam. xP

My polite name: I Insist My story: In retail, the phrase "have a wonderful day" has the emotional range of a kind pleasantry, to the most venomous curse. At this point, I think I've seen just about every variation.

My polite name: Send My Regards My story: I was working on a project at work and was concentrating pretty hard. I must have been frowning because the next thing I know my boss comes up and tells me that I should stop frowning because it's unattractive. I know she didn't mean it rudely but it sure as heck sounded rude. We ended up joking about it and still do to this day.

My polite name: Pardon Me My story: Dealing with bureaucracy... I work for an agency that reports to the state, so they like to decline our reasonable requests in what I'm sure is the politest language, aha.

My polite name: Just Saying My story: My family grew up in Canada and when I was a kid we moved to South Georgia, middle of nowhere. For the longest time as a kid I never understood the whole "Bless Your Heart" I just thought it was something cute old people said, it was until a few years ago I got a better gist of it all. Makes me wonder all the times my parent's friends would say that to me.

My polite name: Courtly Manner My story: There was this one time I was on the bus when I was on vacation. I'm somewhat of a big girl. The person who was sitting down got up and said "You're pregnant, you can sit." I was like... D: wth... "O-ok thanks". It was so very awkward and made me die alittle on the inside.

My polite name: Excuse Me My story: I recently had to call customer service to change my security pin for my phone. The service sent an automatic text to me like 2x a day and it was a bit annoying. When I finally did have time to call, the lady was very polite however she seemed unable to help me change it and eventually told me it was likely due to the recent updates they made (still not sure about that), and apologized so much it was actually kind of annoying xD I was just like why does it say to call you if you guys can't do anything (though maybe it was just her. I ended up doing it online later that night.)

My polite name: You're Welcome My story: While working as a chef, anytime this co-worker of mine tried to tell me what to do. I was still an apprentice and he was qualified but he was just.. awful. Still he tried to tell me how to do things under the guise of being helpful. And I had to listen b/c he was often left in charge and whatever he told me to do just.. never worked. u_u But I had to bite my tongue til I wasn't an apprentice anymore.

My polite name: Here You Go My story: So, one of many days cleaning restrooms, I had my sign out, along with the broom and everything else roughly in the door way, while holding the mop I was about to use. Next thing I know, a kid about 9ish, runs past it all and into one of the stalls. His mom smiles and is like "He had to go." I had to plaster the fakest feeling smile on, "Of course, I was just about to mop and can wait." Seemed to take longer and was the last one for that section of restrooms. I don't know how many times I have had to wait to clean because campers, kids and adults, ignore the CLOSED FOR CLEANING signs. Grin and bear it, is all I can do at times.

My polite name: Taking Turns My story: I once had a student ask to meet with me. Fair enough, that's my job! But she says she can't make my office hours on Tuesday, so I e-mail her to set up a time, and we agree on 1:00 on Monday. I wasn't normally in on Mondays, but I live really close to campus and it wasn't too much trouble to come in with a stack of papers to grade to meet with this girl. Noon rolls around, and I get an e-mail asking to postpone to 1:30. Fine by me, I can be here all day. This continues for about four hours. She kept asking to push that meeting back- very kindly each time- until she was asking to meet me on campus at 6:00 at night.
I have no idea where this girl was. Was she on campus? What was she doing? Finally, I told her that I had to go home, and that I could meet her on Tuesday at 1:00, right after lecture. She says that would work perfectly and thank you so much for being patient. I had to work very hard to not say that my office hours- which she said she couldn't make- were Tuesday from 1:00 until 3:00.
