Sylvite was out and about, ever diligent on the quest to be a good soldier and get more information about the enemies of the Negaverse. Actually, she'd slacked off a bit from her ever diligence after the weird holiday magic had stopped showing up and school had started back up, but she was back now and trying to make up for lost time!

She'd mostly been scouting in parks. Senshi and knights were supposed to like parks. At least, that was where she'd heard that a lot of the action of the war happened. She believed it. She'd gotten attacked in a park once or twice herself.

Tonight, she had yet to find anyone patrolling in the park. It was a little boring for awhile, actually, and her face lit up. She'd found the playground! She bounced forwards, taking a second to pause at where the grass met up with the rubber kid proof stuff. She didn't stop for long, though. Yeah, she had a mission, but she also had permission from a General-King to to fun stuff sometimes.

That was how she ended up playing on the swings a little before she used the momentum to fling herself up on top of the slide tower. She even stuck the landing! She had a good view from up here, too. If someone came by, she'd see them, even if she somehow missed the aura.

Cygnus was coming to the realization that he did not like Chaos or Order. Negaverse or White Moon. Whatever they called themselves, they were all the same: dumb people fighting for dumb reasons they barely understood, and causing lives to get ruined one way or another. Ever since his brother went missing, Cygnus had the feeling that something must have happened to him while he was powered up, and that was why his parents had no idea what happened to their oldest son.

Yet even though Cygnus was powered, too, and in theory could know more or do more, he was just as useless as everyone else. The fact that others could justify what they were doing, fighting and killing and stealing each other away, was just infuriating.

Was it any better if a 'white moon' soldier killed someone in the name of good? That person was still someone's kid or brother or parent. And they were gone, for no reason that the family would ever know or understand. How was that a fair way to do anything?

How could they call themselves good guys?

Grumpy, as always, Cygnus felt a dark aura nearby and growled. It didn't scare him. Or maybe it did, and that was what he wanted. Either way, the Chibi Senshi moved toward the aura rather than away from it, folding his arms over his chest when he got close.

"What are you, on recess? Didn't know the Negaverse was a pre-school."

Oh, there was someone coming! Sylvite didn’t notice right away ‘cause she was busy with her climbing, and also ‘cause there was something different about the aura. It was weak, anyway, just a basic one, but also there was just something about it that was a little different. It was still bright, but it didn’t have quite as much of the brain-burning effect that some of the other auras did. Sylvite squatted on top of the tower, keeping an eye out for whoever was gonna come along.

It turned out to be a senshi. A guy, or more of a kid, really, which was kinda a shock even though it shouldn’t be. She hadn’t really thought much about the way people had been complaining about child soldiers. She’d been the baby of the Negaverse for awhile and it had been fine. Had she looked like that? She tilted her head.

She was still obviously going to take him seriously, and not just because he was frowning. She felt a little off guard being caught climbing a playground without any type of bargaining chip, but she was stronger than him so it’d probably be fine. The middle school insult was annoying, though, and she frowned, brows starting to knit together.

Then she jumped down and landed with a bit of a sigh. “Sorry Order doesn’t let you have any fun.”

The young senshi, a month past his fourteenth birthday, tilted his head at the stranger and did not let his judgmental glare drop for a second. He was the angriest little scarecrow, and even his light yellow attire was not as sunshine-y and sweet as it could have been with such a dour expression on his face.

He had gotten very used to frowning, and was making a bit of an art out of it.

"No, it doesn't. But the Negaverse isn't any more fun, from what I've seen. Just looks like a bunch of idiots running around because their masters tell them to. What's the point of that?"

He was of the mind that being a senshi was a waste of time, and so was being a soldier for the negaverse. In fact, he was pretty sure everything was pointless, and he should probably just use these powers he was given to do whatever the hell he wanted. At least he did not have to answer to anyone, like what the negaverse seemed to have.

If no one knew he existed, then no one would really bother trying to stop him from having his own kind of fun.

"Are you trying to find some energy or something? I'm not going to stop you."

But he would probably attack her anyway, just for the hell of it.

Sylvite didn't stand up when she hit the ground. Instead, she sunk down and ended up sitting cross-legged. This guy wasn't attacking her for just existing, at least not yet, even though with that frown it didn't seem out of the picture yet, so she figured it was worth it to put the extra effort into not looking intimidating.

Her own frown didn't last long. She actually giggled when he started acting like the Generals were bossy slave drivers. Then she shook her head, sending her curls bouncing.

"It's not like that," she said. "I mean, yeah, we have jobs and like a hierarchy, bureaucracy or whatever, but that doesn't make stuff boring." Sure, some people in the Negaverse were boring, but they were the kind of people who would be boring anyway. Like Umber. No wonder he hadn't worked out as her General.

"Like, my commander gets me sweets and sometimes these fancy cafe drinks, me and this other Eternal like to hang out too and she gets me frozen yogurt after she teaches me stuff. Even the General-King said I can practice flips and stuff if I wanted." She nodded as she looked up at him, even though she figured that he was gonna be too stupid to get the appeal.

She shook her head again when he asked about draining. "Nope. I was actually just looking for people to talk to," she said. "What's your name?"

Cygnus watched her sit on the ground, huffing and holding his breath, puffing his cheeks out a bit. He was angry, thinking this negaverse soldier was making fun of him, sitting down like that. Was she not scared of him? He was the senshi of fear, after all, damn it!

Either people were going to start taking him seriously, or he was going to just give up on this whole damn thing.

"You hang out with an Eternal?" Not really understanding the concept of corrupt senshi, though he did know of them, his brain did not immediately equate the word to someone on Chaos' side. He thought she was just hanging out with the White Moon. That was really bad, them making friends with each other.

Chaos was the enemy, and that was that. Right?

"So the Negaverse IS a pre-school, then," he grunted, wrinkling his nose and sticking out his tongue. "Sounds pretty pathetic to me. I'm not looking for anyone to talk to! I don't need pity from anyone! I'm Sailor Cygnus, Senshi of Fear!"

He ran toward her and, with all his might, kicked her as hard as he could right in the knee.

Sylvite nodded when he asked about her senshi friends, keeping her smile up despite the fact that he didn't seem happy about it. "Yeah," she said. "They're really nice, and they're strong."

There was a lot she could say about how awesome her friends were, only it wasn't the kind of thing she could spill to some little senshi who kept insulting her. With her new projects, she was starting to learn just how important that kind of seemingly casual information could be. Not that he seemed that interested, anyway. He was back to the preschool jokes.

She blinked at him, mouth flicking to a frown for only a second before she was tilting her head with a smirk. "Are you running low on insults or something?" She was pretty quickly figuring out that he was one of the ones who wasn't gonna listen to her, but that was fine. She could still try to learn about him.

Which turned out to be really easy, actually, as he proceeded to yell his name and sphere. Okay. Then, he kicked her in the knee. Hard. Less okay. The pain spread out to the rest of her leg in a few seconds. Walking was gonna be weird for the rest of the day. She bit back a hiss and struggled to her feet. If this was how it was gonna be, she needed to at least see his magic.

"Fear?" she asked, tilting her head more than she probably needed to to get her point across. "That's weird. You're not even scary." She reached out, and two knives appeared in her hands.

I'm glad! He's such a little booger. But Sylvite is always great ahahah.

Cygnus was feeling pretty good about the whole kick thing, rather than guilty, which was a surprise to him. He had not been able to feel good about hurting someone in a long time, pretending to be a moral and upstanding super hero like he had been. Now that he was beginning to accept that his powers did not mean he had to be a good guy, he was eager to see what else he could get away with.

Hell, it wasn't like it mattered. Most people would not even know about the shenanigans he got up to, and everyone else would not care. He was, after all, just a kid. Even the Negaverse felt bad that he was in the war at all, just because he was a chibi.

He was not super aware that the little shield of youth had a very finite duration for a chibi, of course. As far as he knew, he was basically untouchable as long as people kept treating him like a kid. His immaturity certainly helped.

"I'll show you what fear is!" He yelled stubbornly, feeling a weird tingling in him and a phrase bouncing around inside his head. Had he ever used his powers before? He must have: he knew they were there. How else would he know? It had just been a while, and with everything that was happening... maybe he just forgot until now that he even had them.

"Feel MY fear!!!" He yelled, holding up his hands. An aura of smoke seemed to build around him, and then faded from view into the air itself. Her knives did scare him, but he was in too deep to run away like his instincts told him to. Maybe he could just turn those instincts around.

Quote:

Sailor Scout Attack: Feel My Fear
Cygnus creates a cloud of smoke that evaporates in the air. The area around him becomes infected with this gas, which makes a person's body react like it is experiencing a strong dose of fear. The effect radius is immediately around Cygnus, branching out to about five feet in any direction, and lingers in the air for ten seconds before it vanishes. If breathed in, the effects of the gas last for up to twenty seconds.

Sylvite felt like she was actually being pretty patient with this little senshi. Her whole leg was throbbing and not doing a super great job of supporting her weight, but it still felt a little extreme to stab someone just for kicking you in the knee.

Maybe it would have been a different story for a knight, or someone who needed to get a little more provoked, but she just stood there with her knives out and a bit of a grin as he kept talking. He was actually doing a lot of the work for her. And then he was yelling something- an attack?

Yeah, an attack. Sylvite saw the cloud spreading out, but she didn't think to like, try not to breathe it in, especially since she was out here for science.

It smelled all spiky, like stress sweat, and it hit the rest of her body, too. Her heart started racing. Her muscles were tightening up, especially the backs of her shoulders. She didn't like that. She didn't like that at all. It wasn't the same as Chrys's magic. She still felt like her mind was her own, but it was hard not to be scared when she could feel her heart pounding and barely take a deep breath.

It was hard to think smart at all. She took a wild swing at him with the handle of her knife before she stepped back, eyes wide.

Cygnus was not sure he had ever really seen the effect of his magic in action before. Maybe he really hadn't ever used it in battle, but just knew it was there and thought about it sometimes. Or something? He had no idea how something like that could work, but he was startled to see the result nonetheless.

Somehow, he made her stop. Hesitate. She missed him and he did not even have to dodge it. His magic was distracting her, and it was the perfect chance for him to try a real attack. He lunged, slamming his shoulder into her midsection and attempting to tackle her.

He was a kid, after all: the only real fights he had ever been in were on the playground, and usually ended up with someone being thrown into a bush or a dumpster.

And he was usually the one doing the throwing. The only difference was, he used to pick on kids that were a lot smaller than him, and not generally trying to fight back. Maybe he had been subconsciously connected to fighting with Fear even before he became the senshi of it. Still, not exactly the build for a super hero.

The villain thing was creeping into the back of his mind again.

Channeling all of his frustration, his raging emotions due to the loss of his brother, he began swinging wildly at her, sitting on her chest and not caring about anything but pummeling her as much as he could with his tightly clenched, white knuckled fists.

Fear made you notice things.

Like, the way the senshi kid was suddenly flying at her. The only thing was, her tightened up muscles weren't the best for dodging with. He came flying at her. He hit. Captain or no, Sylvite wasn't a big person. She went down hard. She slammed into the rubber mulch stuff that was supposed to keep you from getting hurt.

Too bad the city planners hadn't accounted for angry magical teenagers. Sylvite was pinned. Cygnus didn't waste any time starting to hit her. With her heart still trying to beat out of her chest, Sylvite just wanted to get out. She tried to dodge. She shifted just enough that his first punch hit the ground an inch from her head, and the second one just hit her shoulder. She squeaked. The third punch still hit her straight in the jaw.

Something cracked in the back of her mouth. She whimpered as pain shot through her whole head, and her vision flickered for a second. After that, she tasted blood.

Okay. She'd been wrong about this senshi. She'd been wrong about what he deserved. Plus, running was out, so that meant it was time to fight, and he'd put himself right in point blank range. Sylvite still had a death grip on her knives, and she took that second to drive them straight towards his middle. They weren't super sharp, but they were still real metal.

Cygnus was surprised he managed to get the upper hand on someone stronger than him, and really did not know what to do with himself. He had blood on his knuckles, though he wasn't sure if it was hers or his, and he leaped back.

He left her on the floor, taking heavy breaths and looking at his shaking hands now that he finally released his hands from fists. He looked baffled, even scary, and trembled. He let his anger win over him, and the result was terrifying. He had never really been violent before, but he lost himself to how thrilling it felt to be taking something back.

Fighting for his brother. For himself. But what did this Negaverse Captain that actually had not been mean to him have to do with any of it? He had no one to blame for his brother disappearing, so was it right to just blame everyone?

He was not sure he cared about right and wrong any more.

That was when he noticed the blood on his fuku. She'd managed to stab him with her knives, and he let out a startled cry. Pain followed, the shock and adrenaline keeping it at bay until he saw it. He stumbled away from her, panic rising in him without the help of magic like what had been instilled in her.

Sylvite blinked and blinked, like maybe if she did it enough the buzzing in her brain and new pain in her jaw would go away. It didn't really work.

The stabbing, that was what worked. She still got surprised sometimes that she could actually hurt people now after throwing around giant lollipops for so long. These were way better. She felt him stumbling away. She saw the blood on her knives and on his clothes. She saw the way that he was scared now.

Something clicked in her head all at once, and she could breathe again, except for the blood bubbling up in her mouth. She could think. It must have been the magic wearing off. She scrambled to her knees, keeping her knives pointed out at him just in case, but rather than going straight after him, she started thinking through her mental checklist.

He'd given her his name and sphere. She'd seen his magic words, his magic effect, and even the magic duration. It was everything she needed. He'd given her something less fun, too. She tried to poke at her back molar with her tongue then squeaked out loud 'cause that made it so much worse.

It was time to get out before he thought about breaking anything else.

"Still think I'm scarier," she said, and when she grinned a little blood started dribbling out of the corner of her mouth.

Then she squeezed her eyes tight for focus and teleported away.
