Breeding is always open, provided your Stormborn is on the members list. There are, however, some limitations due to the way the pride functions and which ranks do and do not leave the pride. For specifics, please read on:
Prior to requesting approval for breeding your member must be on the members list. (Master Members List - Valid until January 2018; CYOML - Valid indefinitely.) Marriage impacts breeding so if your lion/ness is married please read onto the next post as it may impact your choices.
Captains
Captains may breed with anyone in the Stormborn. Captains may participate in the Mix 'n Match. This is because they are able to leave pride lands and would have opportunities to meet non-Stormborn lions. Captains may breed with gods because gods do what they want to do.
Reavers
Reavers may breed with anyone in the Stormborn. Reavers may participate in the Mix 'n Match. This is because they are able to leave pride lands and would have opportunities to meet non-Stormborn lions. Reavers may breed with gods because gods do what they want to do.
Valkyries
Valkyries may breed with anyone in the Stormborn. Valkyries may participate in Mix 'n Match/other events suggesting rogue breeding. This is because thralls do not leave pride lands and would have no opportunity to meet non-Stormborn lions. Valkyries may participate in rogue breedings of the ? x (mother's name) variety. In a rogue breeding the cubs will take advantage of the mothers rank or her husbands - so the cubs will be Freeborn in this case. Valkyries may breed with gods because gods do what they want to do.
Shield-Maidens
Shield-Maidens may breed with anyone in the Stormborn. Shield-Maidens may not participate in Mix 'n Match/other events suggesting rogue breeding. This is because thralls do not leave pride lands and would have no opportunity to meet non-Stormborn lions. Shield-Maidens may participate in rogue breedings of the ? x (mother's name) variety. In a rogue breeding the cubs will take advantage of the mothers rank or her husbands - so the cubs will be Freeborn in this case. Shield-Maidens may breed with gods because gods do what they want to do.
Priestesses
Priestesses may breed with anyone in the Stormborn. Priestesses may not participate in the Mix 'n Match. This is because they do not leave pride lands and would have no opportunity to meet non-Stormborn lions. Priestesses may participate in rogue breedings of the ? x (mother's name) variety. Lawspeakers
Lawspeakers may breed with anyone in the Stormborn. Lawspeakers may not participate in the Mix 'n Match. This is because they do not leave pride lands and would have no opportunity to meet non-Stormborn lions. Female lawspeakers may participate in rogue breedings of the ? x (mother's name) variety. Freeborn may breed with anyone in the Stormborn. Freeborn may not participate in the Mix 'n Match. This is because they do not leave pride lands and would have no opportunity to meet non-Stormborn lions. Female freeborn may participate in rogue breedings of the ? x (mother's name) variety. In a rogue breeding the cubs will take advantage of the mothers rank or her husbands - so the cubs will be Freeborn in this case. Freeborn may breed with gods because gods do what they want to do.
Thralls
Thralls may breed with anyone in the Stormborn. Thralls may not participate in Mix 'n Match/other events suggesting rogue breeding. This is because thralls do not leave pride lands and would have no opportunity to meet non-Stormborn lions. Female thralls may participate in rogue breedings of the ? x (mother's name) variety. In a rogue breeding the cubs will take advantage of the mothers rank or her husbands - so the cubs will be Thralls in the case that the Mother is unmarried or Freeborn if she is married to a male who is Freeborn or above. Thralls may breed with gods because gods do what they want to do.

Marriage
Marriage is a bond formed between two lions, male and female. The marriage may be for love, profits, or rank - whichever is on the agenda - but it is legitimate and must be handled legally through a Lawspeaker (can be an NPC Lawspeaker). The two lions will meet to make the arrangements, swear to one another in devotion and that is that (aside from little traditions).
Basics
Complete an RP together where you are making an agreement for marriage. A Lawspeaker must be present for it to be legally binding, but they may be an NPC. The marriage will be posted here following the completion of the RP. The marriage is binding and brings along some pros/cons that all parties should be aware of before entering the binding. What about that cert you may ask? There is an option for you to apply for a Wife cert. This rank can take over the rank that is currently shown on your cert such as Thrall/Freeborn etc etc. This is a choice though. You must still respect the cert requirement of only applying for one request per SoA per month. So do not try and get a Wife + other rank cert at the same time.
Pros to Marriage
The married lioness would likely share his den, thus be taken care of, and in return she'd keep the place well maintained. This includes maintaining any Thralls the lion may have. The cubs born to the lioness will take the rank provided by her husband - ultimately the females rank determines her cubs rank, but not in the situation where a lioness is married. (If she is a thrall, but married, she will have the cubs take the rank provided by their father (determined by her husband, not the blood father), so Freeborn.)
Cons to Marriage (Only to the third party really.)
Flings are always a possibility within the pride. Everyone lives closely among one another and so it isn't realistic to assume it won't happen. However, should your lioness choose to pursue another the cubs produced by them will be considered her husbands cubs. They will take the proper rank of Freeborn as is their birth right, but will likely not know their birth father as such. The lioness's husband will take on the cubs.
Husbands Death / Departure
Should the husband die or depart from the pride (which most would assume he had perished) the wife would be left to her old rank (if she was a Thrall she would become a Thrall again, if she was Freeborn then she would be Freeborn again and so on). The purpose of a marriage is to have a well kept wife, home, and most importantly a legacy.
What does the wife get?
Aside from the sheer knowledge that her children will forever be protected as Freeborn or above.. she will also be entitled to her husbands wealth. The wealth would include things like his home, thralls, and odds/ends that he may have gathered. At anytime a family member can host a Holmgang to try and fight for the wealth the wife has gained. Should they win the prize would most likely be thralls, then various material items and lastly the home.
