Aria Starstone

Why she was in this part of town, the Super Senshi of Brooms could not really figure out. Her path had been a little random, but normally she ended up in familiar areas. Like her feet were taking her to places she knew, so she would at least be comfortable and safe.

Tonight, though, her instincts decided to abandon her, and she ended up in the more... entertainment oriented... area of downtown.

Needless to say, Sinistra was not much of a party girl. She was going on 19, yet she did not enjoy the same sort of fun her fellow students at university seemed to. She did her best, and was definitely way more out of her shell than she used to be due to the necessity of speaking to people in her 'job' as a senshi, but she was by no means a social butterfly.

In her civilian life, she still chose a good book and some homework over going out.

Feeling like a fish out of water, she watched from the roof top as some late night revelers wandered out of a bar, stumbling down the road and laughing with one another about some joke they must have repeated fifteen times in the few minutes Sinistra had been watching them. She could see why people like this were easy targets for the negaverse...

But so far, she didn't sense any danger.

Valetudo, Senshi of Cheer, had been having fun at a nearby club for awhile, but her sense of 'I have a job to do' called to her... And if she was asked, she would have to admit that this part of town was probably like meat and bread to the other half of this little war. So many people, all getting themselves into a vulnerable state just to have fun? They probably loved drunks. Easy as ******** prey, she was positive of that. So she had left the club, glad she wasn't with anyone she was particularly close to, or particularly in the mood to go home with, and found a private corner, before powering up.

She popped out, once ready, and headed for the roofs, because it was a good place to keep an eye out and she was less likely to be accosted by a drunk idiot who thought she was going to a costume party or something. She could handle it, obviously, but it just made her patrol less fun for everyone.

She was looking around, and using her ability to feel where people were when she sensed another Order person around. She considered for a moment, then gave a 'what the hell' shrug, turning on her foot to go find who they were. Maybe they could patrol together.

Maybe they'd have a cute a** for her to ogle. Or something.

Maybe she'd make a new friend!

After a minute, she saw the figure of another young woman coming into view, and she called out "Hey!" As she approached, hoping not to utterly startle the other woman, her hand waving as she jumped onto the roof the other girl was on.

Sinistra was startled as another aura suddenly appeared, rather close. Someone must have just powered up, because they certainly did not feel like they'd approached from far away. She took a breath, calming her nerves. At least it was an aura that was friendly, at least she hoped so. Just because they were on the same side, though, did not immediately mean they would get along.

She was so awkward around others, anyway, that it would not be surprising if she upset them.

Raising her hand slightly and offering a thin, sheepish smile, she greeted the other senshi as she hurried over. Well, she had not had quite as much time to mentally prepare as she might have liked, but at least the greeting was a friendly one.

"H-hello," she said, once Vale was close enough to her so they weren't shouting across rooftops. She bowed her head a little, a habit she picked up from the knight that helped with her training, "my name is Sinistra, Super Senshi of Brooms. It-it's nice to meet you."

Vale grinned at the other woman, wondering what was with the stutter. She hoped she wasn't frightening the other girl, but she seemed to be okish at least? The head bow was a little odd, though. "Nice to meet you. I'm Valetudo, Senshi of Cheer. Kinda new to all this, but I am gonna do my best, you know?"

She moved over to the other woman's side and stuck her hand out in a friendly way. "Did you just come from the clubs, like me? Or were you just patrolling?"

She glanced out at the district, and added "I've decided to patrol this area when I can... Go out dancing a bit before, have some fun, then head out and power up. All these people, high energy and often drunk, seem like some ready made targets for the energy thieves of Chaos, don'tcha think?"

She turned her head back to the other girl, and grinned again. "So I gotta protect my friends and fellow fun seekers!"

"Cheer? What a wonderful thing to be a senshi of. Much better than Brooms, anyway. That must be fun."

She smiled warmly, a kind little soul despite how shy she could be. She was just not great at meeting people. Or hanging out with people. Or getting to know people. Or generally being around people. Even though she really wanted all those things. It was a constant struggle that usually just resulted in a lot of blushing and stammering.

And staring at the floor.

"I... I've never been to a club, to be honest," and she was always honest, "but you look like you're having a very good night. I just wanted to make sure this area was safe, so I guess... y-yes, I was just patrolling. Uhm. But... also trying to have fun, I think? So I'm still a fun... seeker... uhm. Oh. Dear. I'm... I'm sorry, I'm nervous."

And why was she nervous? Even she had no idea. Maybe because she noticed how pretty this senshi was, or maybe she was just a little jealous of how easy it seemed for her to enjoy herself. It was a nice trait to have.

"But yes, I was thinking the same thing. I'm sure the negaverse comes here all the time just to hunt. I hope you're careful..."
PostPosted: Sat Feb 09, 2019 12:22 pm

"Is it? I don't know... A broom has a lot of uses. It cleans, but it can also be used as a weapon in the right circumstances. Cheer is... Challenging. After all, cheer can be used as a mask for other things. I don't know. Brooms seems pretty chill to me."

A mask for other things. What an understatement that was. Her expression of bright cheerfulness staid on her face, a mask hiding the fact that she was kicking the thoughts she never wanted to dwell on back into their internal pit.

She tilted her head, though, at the way the girl seemed to stammer a little, as she spoke. Shy, but trying. Vale could work with that, especially since she was a cute thing... And really close in height, too... Perfect height, really, for some good... And she had to pinch herself, subtly, to get her mind back on track. She barely knew this girl, and she had no idea if Sinistra even LIKED other ladies, let alone was interested in recreational kissing or more.

"Hey, it's ok! You don't have to be nervous!" She moved over to Sinistra and slung an arm over her shoulder, trying to help her relax by showing that Vale liked her. "I don't bite, and I am happy to meet a fellow Senshi. First other senshi I've met, actually. So far I've met you and the cat that did my Awakening. How about we patrol together for a bit? After, we could go find a place to hang or something."

She paused, at the last comment, and her eyes closed for a moment, her heart pulling at the idea of the place she could get lost in for hours, not think, just enjoy being the feeding grounds of the Negaverse. She took a deep breath, and steadied herself. "Yeah. It's why I come here to patrol. I do my best... I'm still new, after all... But... Someone has to be here."

Sinistra looked a little concerned, her hand instinctively reaching toward the otther senshi compassionately, before she realized she barely knew her and could not just assume things were bad because she made one comment about Cheer being a mask for things. But... what if she meant she was sad, and needed a friend to help her?

It broke Sinistra's heart, to think someone had to be associated with something they might not really feel. At least she was a clean person, and sweeping was something she tended to do. But being a sad or troubled person and everyone just assuming they were Cheerful because that's what their senshi name decided? That seemed so... sad.

"I'm always nervous," she admitted, with a little laugh. She was happy to change the subject, but forced herself not to. This was more important than how comfortable she may or may not be, after all. Of course, almost everything was usually more important than Sinistra being comfortable, as that was a near impossible goal anyway.

She cleared her throat, shoulders tightening but her eyes lighting up as Vale tried to reassure her with a hug. Wasn't she supposed to be doing that?

"Do you uhm. Do you think you're more or less cheerful? I'm sorry, from the way you spoke... m-maybe I'm inferring too much, but I guess it just made me worry that... I didn't mean to assume that everything was good and happy just because of your sphere, and if you did need help or... well. I'm. I'm happy to listen. Or just... uhm. Yes, patrolling sounds nice."

She blushed furiously, wishing she was able to put her words together in person as well as she could when writing a report or a project. Of course, life was a lot more improvised than a school assignment tended to be.

Valetudo blinked, seeing the way the other woman start to reach towards her, confused and wondering why. She hoped against hope that she had not given too much away, but she had been honest... Even if it skirted too close to things she hated to think about.

She focused, instead, on the other woman, thinking that she was a pretty thing, and wondering what she might look like when powered down.

Which immediately led to the interesting and curious question, at least in Valetudo's mind, of what SHE looked like when powered up. After all, Faust had told her she had some sort of magic that made Civ-her and Vale-her look like two different people, to others, and maybe that meant she really DID look different. Did Sinistra see her hair color the way it was, or did she see... Blond, maybe?

She might have stayed focused on that strange thought path, had Sinistra not spoken again. "Always nervous? Even when you're sleeping, or out on a date, or something?" Her tone was lightly flirtatious, and she winked, not at all thinking about how that question might come across to someone shy.

The next question, however, had Vale controlling the urge to go stiff and push the other woman away, because Sinistra had hit WAY too close to home, without even realizing it.

Instead, Vale put on her brightest smile and laughed, shrugging. "Me? I am out here, having fun and enjoying life. How could I be anything less then cheerful, Sinistra? That's sweet of you to offer, though... I really appreciate it. If I ever need it, I will definitely call on you." Her tone, on the last half, was entirely earnest, not mocking... Just an expression of the fact that she thought Sinistra kind.

Even if she would likely die before ever ADMITTING she needed help. "So, I came from that way... I was thinking of continuing along this route..." She gestured, to indicate where she was heading. "To cover most of the area. Ready to go?" She winked as she asked.

"Well maybe not when I'm sleeping, though I get some weird... dreams... uhm."

She did not have much to say, as far as if she was nervous on dates. She could count how many dates she had been on so far in her young life on one hand, without using any fingers at all. Not that she wanted to admit to that out loud, and make herself seem even more pathetic and silly than she was sure she already had.

Getting the feeling that maybe she had overstepped sound boundaries, Sinistra smiled warmly at Vale as she tried to convince them both that things were okay. It was the polite thing to do to believe her, and not push further, but also to keep a careful ear turned toward the conversations they might have. Sinistra was by nature a very caring and empathetic person, and she would do her best to help the other Senshi if things were more difficult for her than she let on.

Sometimes, after all, just having a friend to talk to could help. At least, that was what Sinistra was hoping.

"Uhm, yes, of course," she said, looking toward the area that was motioned to and moving to start the patrol. She was cautious, to a fault really, but she was trying to open up a little more. "Do you like patrolling, Miss Valetudo? I've heard other senshi doing other things, like going to space and things that just seem incredible. I'm trying to figure out what it is I'm meant to do. You know. In the scheme of things."

Vale had to control the urge to blink in confusion about that, and the idea that the other lady's dreams might make her nervous too. There was a moment of thoughtful silence, then she decided to try not to make it more awkward. Instead, she shrugged and said "Yeah, I think we all get weird dreams. Especially after living in Destiny City and it's weirdnesses, for a good while."

When the other woman seemed to accept Vale's assertions that everything was fine and dandy, she had to control the urge to sigh in extreme relief. Valetudo was there to make other people happy, help them have fun, and she did not need to WORRY about it, because when she was doing that, she was, everything was fine, it was all just fine.

"Patrolling is alright. It helps me get some extra exercise, which is good, since I do marching band stuff." Not too much detail, there. There were a number of schools in this city, and she was sure almost all of them had marching bands. "Also, I'm seeing a side of my favorite part of the city I've never seen." The comment about going to space had her thoughtful. "Never gone to space, as yet. It's a bit of a weird thought, especially since I'm named for that little weird moon that goes the wrong way. But for the moment, I'm sticking to patrolling until I get myself more settled into this Senshi business."

Sinistra smiled warmly at Vale, feeling concern for the other but not wanting to drive her away by being over bearing. She did not have that many friends, after all, and losing the chance to make a new one would be a real bummer. After all, besides being a little less than honest about her emotions, Vale seemed very kind and like a fun person to be around.

"Marching band? Oh, that's lovely. I was never good enough to join any groups like that, and I couldn't imagine trying to perform anything in front of others. That takes real bravery! You must be quite talented."

She was always very honest in her replies, as innocent as they were. She had missed out on a lot of the more social aspects of school, though she enjoyed watching things like band and theater at a distance. It always seemed like it would be a really fun thing to do, join others and share something they all enjoyed together, but shyness always won out.

Unfortunately, it meant spending a lot of time alone.

"Your moon goes the wrong way? That is weirdly endearing of it. My star is... in an unfortunate constellation that is not... uhm. It's a little much for me, looking it up. It's called the Left Hand of the Serpent Bearer. I'm uhm. Mostly afraid to go."

"Music is what I live to do, in a lot of ways." Valetudo said, though her tone was modest, not prideful. "Been playing the instruments I do since I was a kid. Mom noticed I like playing 'music' on the toys they got me, and decided to let me try out various things. Eventually, I settled on the two that are my focus these days." She was proud of the fact that she could play both flute and violin with nearly equal skill... She wasn't maybe amazing at other things in life, but that she was good at. However, her tone did not convey that, all it showed was calm truth.

"And since I plan to try to make a living as a musician, I had to get used to being in front of others, or I'd never get anywhere, you know?"

She was sort of trying to talk and also focus on what was going on around them, in case she sensed anything, like youma or Nega agents. So far it felt like nothing was at all close, and that was good.

Especially since it meant she could focus on the pretty lady she was talking to. Vale wondered if a stolen kiss might be appropriate, because the shy lady was too adorable, and she wanted to try. But for the moment, she was not going to push... She also did not want to scare her new friend off, after all.

"Mmm yeah, it's one of Jupiter's moons. It goes across the paths of other moons, in a very eccentric orbit. I vaguely wonder how it still exists, really." She tilted her head at the comment about 'unfortunate constellation', her eyes curious. "Left hand of the Serpent Bearer? What's so unfortunate about it? Are you afraid of snakes or something? Isn't the serpent bearer..." Her nose wrinkled for a moment, trying to remember what her friend who was ALL into astrology and that sort of thing had told her. "Opi... something? Which is like... a healer or something?"

She sounded unsure, because first off she often sort of half zoned when her friend went on about astrology because BORING, and because it really was not her field at all.

Sinistra listened with interest, smiling but clearly not aware of how excited and involved she looked. She might have been a little more embarrassed if she was aware that she was looking very much like a little kid seeing fireworks for the first time. But she just loved learning about people, and being as shy as she was, it was hard for her to do.

So this whole Senshi thing, and being able to talk to others with one basic thing in common at all times, was a marvel.

"Oh, that makes sense. I've love to listen to your music some time! I mean. Not to... invite myself anywhere or... or anything, but uh. Well. IT does sound very nice, and I imagine that you're very talented!"

She was much more interested in talking about music than her star constellation. From her research, she had learned a lot about the star that was tied to some unsavory things. There were good things too, since the whole astronomy/astrology thing was a very vast topic and many people seemed to interpret things in different ways. It was all too much to take in, though, for her to try and understand without actually going there.

She would, at some point... when she was ready.

"Are you still at college, or?" Valetudo was not trying to get too invasive, it was clear from how she asked hesitantly... After all, Faust had told her to be careful with her civilian identity, and she had gotten the clue about WHY, so she felt hesitant asking about someone else's, unless they volunteered. But she was asking to make it easier to invite Sinistra to some sort of event she would be at, without telling her exactly who she was.

She had no idea how much was safe, not yet, after all. And she did not want to risk her family... They did nothing to deserve it.

She did notice, with curiosity, that her new friend seemed to avoid answering the questions about her own planet, so Vale decided this was a good time to back off on that. Maybe she just was not ready to deal with these things, and that was totally ok! It was her choice, after all.

"I am," Sinistra said, glancing at her feet again. She smiled warmly, though, at the thought of school. Honestly, it was one of her favorite things to do, and was almost a hobby outside of her powered 'work' life now. Weirdly, and though no one would ever agree, she found her schooling to be the place she went to relax. "though I haven't focused on a major yet. I really... well. I just really enjoy learning, so I just try to uhm... take as many classes as I can manage, and learn what I can. Something will click, I'm sure, but I'm happy just. Well. Being a student. I know that sounds terribly boring."

She was also very aware that she was not the typical college kid. She was not sure she had ever been to a 'real' college party, and she certainly had no idea what some of the crazier party kids could be thinking half the time. How did they ever have any time for their homework, which was clearly the most important thing a student should be spending their time on?

A car on the street backfired, sending a loud bang into the air abruptly and causing Sinistra to jump. She bumped into Vale and instinctively grabbed the other woman's arm, glancing around but finding no auras or danger nearby. She sighed, thinking maybe she was a bit too tense about the whole Chaos thing, but it was also wise never to let one's guard down too far.

"I'm babbling too much about myself, aren't I? I'm sorry, it's strangely easy to talk tonight. Oh. I'm... let me..." she let go of Vale's arm, turning a bright pink color, but smiling as best as she could. "Sorry, not trying to cut off circulation. Though yours seems to be just fine. I mean. Your muscle was... uhm... toned. Shut up, Sinistra."

Defeated by her own awkwardness, she let her rambling die off with a pitiful, apologetic look on her face.
