"That should be it for the pumpkins." Periwinkle, Peri for short, said to the worker that was handling the deliveries. Peri often had to come and deliver pumpkins for the academy since he and his sister owned the largest, and closest, pumpkin farm, and they were the only two workers. It was a good thing that he liked tending to them so much and that he had more strength than one would think. Otherwise pumpkin delivery would be impossible. He had the worker sign the tablet for confirmation of the pumpkin delivery and headed over to put his trailer away so that he could move it out of here safely. Out of the corner of his eye he could see that some freshlings were out and about, and tried to keep an eye on them while he hitched the cart back up so that he wouldn't hurt any of them accidentally.

Aisling walked with Ginger at her side, as she did whenever she went, well, anywhere. The Spectrefox was bigger than Aisling, but Ginger was a conversation starter and Aisling loved her company. She was currently in the midst of stroking Ginger's soft white fur (the same color as Aisling's hair!) When she noticed that Ginger's head had raised and was peering at something nearby.
Aisling followed her familiar's gaze and... her mouth dropped open. "They look so... soft." She whispered, before bolting over to the newcomer, giving little regard to what they were carrying or who might get in her way. Skidding to a halt in from of them, just barely remembering her manners, she pointed at their ears. "Can I please touch your ears?!" Aisling squealed.

Peri had just finished securing the trailer when he heard a voice behind him and he whirled around and jumped a little! After that though he had a moment to calm down and realized that it most likely wasn't something that was going to eat him, but instead just a little freshling. What had they been asking again? "My... ears?" He said, unsure that he had heard the little freshling correctly. He looked at one of his ears, and the back at the freshling, still a bit confused as to why they would be so interested. "Uh... sure I guess? As long as it's soft touches and not pulling or anything." He mostly found his ears to be an annoyance that usually got in the way, but he didn't mind if others asked about them. It's when they just went up and touched them that he got annoyed. And the freshling had asked after all.

Aisling's three eyes got very round when the nice person told her that she could pet his ears. Reaching up, she lightly grasped one of the floppy things and stroked the ends of it, marveling at how they were both velvety and fuzzy.
"I love you..." She whispered, awe in her voice, but it was apparent she was speaking more to the ear than the person attached to it. These mammoth ears were so wonderful... and they were so floppy! Her best friend, Bridget, had fuzzy ears, but hers went upwards instead of down. Her giant floofy tail made up for that though! "I wish I had ears like yours." She said, finally looking back up at the person.
Remembering the remainder of her manners, she smiled. "My name is Aisling, and this is Ginger." Keeping one hand on the wonderful ear, she used the other to point to her familiar. "She's a Spectrefox and I'm..." She paused, thinking about all the races she had learned about in her classes. She thought of the other kids looking at her and whispering Hallow. She still wasn't totally sure what that meant, or why it seemed like others thought it was a bad thing. "Well, I'm Aisling!" She finished with a smile.
"Since I touched your ear, you can touch my feathers if you want?" She offered, flexing her head wings upwards to prove her offer.

Peri was starting to get a little creeped out. Not from the Hallowed hybrid, after all, he was "technically" a hallow too even if he didn't look that scary but she did say she loved his ear after all. He kind of wanted it back now. Unfortunately he wasn't too good with little kids and wasn't sure how to handle them, so for now, the girl got to keep his ear hostage. "Right... Uh, well it's... nice to meet you Aisling? And Ginger of course." He did not want that thing trying to eat him. He looked at her feathers and shook his head. "I'm fine. I don't have to touch your feathers." Did this kid not have a concept of personal space or what? And she just asked a strange adult to touch her back... Now he was feeling like some sort of disgusting pervert. "Really, it's fine. I can't touch your feathers because... I haven't washed my hands." Hopefully that would ward off any more of the kids offers to "touch" her in some way.

Aisling smiled up at the stranger and nodded seriously when he said he hadn't washed his hands. "It's very important to wash your hands." She said, remembering what one of the caretakers had told her and the little'uns. "Do you go to the Academy? What house are you in?" She asked, her cluster of ruby eyes round as she stared up at him. I'm in Eldritch!" She chimed happily, wings fluttering.

He shook his head once again. "I actually graduated the academy a while ago. I just do deliveries now." He didn't say what it was, just in case she decided that she would specifically be looking for pumpkin deliveries. Little kids were smart, he knew that if she really wanted to, she would be able to memorize his schedule and might bother him every time he came back. "So it means I'm only here for a little bit, and then I have to go back to my job." He said, trying to give her the hint. Kids were smart in some areas, but in others... Not so much.

"Woooah." Aisling said. "That's so cool that you have a job. I don't have one yet. But I want something that has to do with familiars, I know that much! I mean, I've already got two of them. I've got Ginger, who you've met, but I've also got Pooka, who's a Pumpka! Only, he's completely green and not at all orange like I've heard normal Pumpkas are like." She babbled on.
"Do you like familiars? I think they're the best." She said. "Oh, gosh, I don't think you told me your name! You DO have a name, right?" She asked, peering up at the tall fella.

He kept himself from blurting out that a freshling really shouldn't have a job in the first place considering how young they were. "Well, at least you have an idea of what you want to do. I'm sure there are plenty of jobs that involve familiars somehow." There was volunteering and sitting and all sorts of different ones. At least she had an idea of what she wanted to do. He and his sister had been raised to just help with the family pumpkin farm. At least he liked doing it, though he was allowed to leave if he wanted. "That's cool. And familiars are interesting." Most of them anyway. He was pretty sure that some of the larger ones could and would eat him. "I'm Periwinkle." He replied, hoping that she didn't ask anymore questions that would require him giving out revealing information about his schedule.

Aisling smiled at the fellow as he went on to say that it was good that she had an idea of what she wanted to do. She found her hands straying from his ears to the comforting form of Ginger. As she ran her small hands through Ginger's thick white fur, she turned her eyes back to the adult.
"Yeah, familiars really are the best." She agreed and smiled. "Pleased to meet cha Perr...Perry-wrinkle." She said, unable to pronounce his name completely, despite her best efforts.
Eventually, Ginger, who had been watching Periwinkle with narrowed eyes, poked Aisling with her nose. Aisling let out a surprised laugh and looked back to her familiar fondly, poking her nose and releasing the fluffy ear she'd been coveting.
"I guess it's time to find you some food, huh, girl?" She asked Ginger with a smile, before turning back to her fuzzy friend. "It was nice to meet you Perry! I hope we see each other again and we can talk more then, okay?" She said, before Ginger started to herd her away towards the school.
