Mintaka didn't know how to ring in the new year when she felt like she was always busy with things. Between finishing her mansions 'school room' for Tatsuya and herself, to patrolling more diligently as Mintaka....There just wasn't enough time in the world for her.
She felt so busy all the time, and she now had senshi to look after. New dark mirrors were awakening every week and she wanted to make herself available for them.
She really needed to make a guide or something, so she could give it to the newer ones. Unlike herself, they weren't awakening into white moon. They were awakening straight into the mirror. She was often jealous of those senshi but at the same time, it was such a boon to the court.
Her patrols brought her to a continuous twist and turns of alleyways, and at first she almost didn't sense the youma.
Until she saw it.

Ashley Dalton's priorities weren't on anything but herself. Well, on pizza, but it was pizza for her, so it was on both her and pizza, technically.
New Years meant the mall closed early which was great because she had zero interest in working at the kiosk that day (or any other, for that matter) so after a proper cat nap of approximately five hours, she woke up with a bad case of bedhead and a bad case of wait, what time was it?
Monday nights were BOGO night at the local pizza parlor a couple blocks from her apartment building. She knew they probably had special hours when it came to the new year but she was determined to use the last ten dollar bill she had to her name until payday to get two single topping pizzas to last her... well, as long as two single topping pizzas could last her.
It depended on her mood, honestly. Maybe a day. Maybe four. Only time would tell - but not if she failed to get to Papa Tony's before it closed down. Her shirt was inside out, she was pretty sure her socks failed to match but as long as she made it through the door a minute before closing time, Tony's crew wouldn't have a choice but to make her pizzas, regardless of how scrambled she looked (this time).
Crinkled and creased, the folded bill stayed crumpled in the center of her palm as she booked it down the street, making a bee-line for the familiar street signs she knew by heart.
The giant MONSTER standing next to the green and white street sign? Definitely not something she knew by heart.
"W-What in the hell is that?"
Did some crazy New Year's parade float go awry from the rest of the parade?
Wait... was there a New Year's parade???

Theodore's paws pitter pattered across the sidewalk as he made his rounds around the streets. Miss Prissy was off with Chase (ugh) and he'd been unable to crash the date so he decided that he would go out in search of potential candidates to bring to his mistress so that she could have her very own (and better) team than her boyfriends.
Lately all of his attempts at finding worthy subordinates had been dashed because of the horrid dark mirrors who kept attempting to swoop in and steal (there was no attempting, they were always successful to his dismay) the budding senshi waiting to be awakened before he could get a general-sovereign on the scene.
It was exasperating and he was determined to do something about it except--
There was a loose youma when he turned around the corner and spotted a girl who immediately sent a tingle down his spine.
Oh, she was unawakened. "Girl!"pixie nyxie he has not noticed mintaka yet whoops

Mintaka was separated from the two only because she was on the otherside of the large monster. She could feel the small aura, deeming it a guardian most likely.
It was perhaps best that they were on the otherside, so she could attack the monster and now damage the kitty, whatever side they may be on.
Except she had heard a voice and there was nothing good about that. Two voices now. Using the walls, Mintaka scaled up, quickly flipping over the monster from one of the emergency stairwells and landing at the woman's side. And what a interesting woman she looked like so far.
"Good evening." Mintaka smiled pleasently at Ashley, and then down to the candy ribboned cat. "And hello again Theodore." She hadn't seen the cat since her awakening of Sabrina but she was sure he would not be pleased to see her.
"I hate to impose, but is she a senshi?" There would be no time for much more pleasentries if so, as she beginning looked around for a mirror. Luckily there was an ornate old one hidden among the pile of garbage. It wasn't the cleaniest or well....the best looking, but it was large enough for an awakening.
Or if not, escape.
The monster roared, throwing bags of trash at them, like mini bombs of grossness.

Hearing the word "girl" being called out wasn't exactly identifying but it was distracting enough for her to turn her head away from the strange, monstrous looking creature -- if anything because she wanted to make sure she wasn't hallucinating about this sort of thing.
"Are you talking to m...."
Her voice trailed off as she saw no one standing there. Well, no human at least. There was a fuzzy little cat in a top hat but cats didn't talk so...
Eyebrows furrowed as she tried to make sense of the strangeness going on, only for some crazy lookin' chick in a crazy lookin' outfit to somersault or gymnastic her way over to where Ashley had paused. She was greeted and then the girl greeted the cat in the top hat - talk about major whack.
Wait. What?
Senshi?
She opened her mouth to question what the hell was going on but a sudden sailing bag of trash connected itself with Ashley's shoulder, sending the poor girl backwards and onto the ground.

"Of course I'm talking to--" Theodore's ears twitched and when Mintaka's voice carried over he turned and started hissing, almost violently at her. "No. No! Go away! You're not welcome here! She's mine!!"
Theodore swatted at her, trying to catch her leg with somewhat retracted claws.
Trash came lobbing towards them and the mau struggled to dart out of the way while staying between his new recruit and Mintaka.
This would be the third time some stinky dark mirror attempted to steal the girl he was trying to awaken and he wasn't going to let it happen.
"It doesn't matter if she is, she's not for you!"

Ashley took a garbage bag, knocking her down. Mintaka didn't think they'd have much more time so she summoned her eternal attack to confuse and blind the monster.
"Origami Blizzard...." She held out her hands as origami shapes fell like snow. It got heavier and heavier, until they could barely see the monster in it's midst.
"Can't do that Theodore." She smiled softly at the guardian, scooping him up in her arms so he couldn't swat at her legs, though it knocked his cute little hat off. She didn't pay it any mind as she rushed to get them all safely away from where they were. "And we don't really have time for you to call your Generals. So off to the mirror we go!" She helped Ashley up, only to shove her through the dirty and old mirror. "Breathe like normal hun, We're going into mirrorspace. The less you freak out...the better."
They had been lucky, unlike Sabrina's entrance into the mirrorspace, Mintaka had a better way to manipulate the mirror, dropping them off outside of Ares's throne room. In the middle was a giant dark mirror. Since she didn't want to lose either of them, Mintaka kept a firm grip on Ashley and Theodore.
"If you wanna survive the monster? You're gonna have to walk through that mirror." She nodded her head towards it. "Theodore will more the begrudgingly give you the tools after....and I'll explain whats going on after you go through." Mintaka sighed.
"You'd think they'd make it easier to recruit Dark Mirrors now, Theodore." She looked down at the cat before squinting her eyes. "Are you missing something?"

She was going to have to.... what?
All of this was unreal and confusing. There was a monster hurling trash, there was some crazy girl in a getup talking to a talking cat about things and one minute they were on the sidewalk and the next, all three were traveling through a mirror, Alice in Wonderland style.
Either the nachos she had for lunch were unknowingly bad or things just got epic crazy in real life.
Breathe, the other girl was right. Breathe. 1...2...3...
Without having any other choice (because she was not going to face that monster thing again, if she didn't have to, Ashley stepped inside the dark, scary looking mirror just as she'd been carried through the last mirror.
Only this time, things were different.
This time, she was spit back out --- not as Ashley, not anymore. Now she was someone more powerful, someone she didn't recognize in the mirror's reflection.
She was... in some really freaking weird getup, herself.
"What in the....?"

Being picked up was not what Theodore expected to happen as he swatted at Mintaka's legs. "Put me down!" He huffed, baring his teeth when he hissed at the mirror senshi.
"There would have been time! You don't get to just--" He was cut off by the sudden realization that he no longer had his hat on top of his head. His hat was missing.
His hat was missing.
His.
Hat.
Was.
MISSING.
He immediately started to yowl, loud enough that he was drowning out whatever the woman was saying to him, claws digging into Mintaka. "MY HAT, MY HAT IS GONE WE HAVE TO GO BACK."
He paid no attention to the new senshi.

It was the most colorful of the outfits she had seen in the dark mirrors so far but well...It wasn't bad.
Mintaka was about to tell the woman more about who they were when Theodore's cries LITERALLY drowned them out and she almost dropped the guardian just to cover them.
As his hat was important, and Mintaka was not one to leave something behind, she took a look around mirrorspace before spotting a small lacy thing and took it over to Theodore.
"Here, will this do until we can get her powered?" It was a smoky wisp copy of a doll's lolita style hat, and nothing close to Theodore's. "We can go back, she just.....needs her magic?" Lord she hoped the yowling would calm down.

She had a million questions for the two magical beings and the number was growing every second she stared down at the crazy outfit she was wearing. Was she one of these nuttos too now? What on earth did that mean, exactly?
Unfortunately, absolutely none of her questions could be answered, not with the way the cat was yowling as if the girl was yanking on his tail or shaking him relentlessly. Crying over... his hat?
Really?
The other girl was trying to soothe his wailing but it didn't seem to help. A magical hat appeared with the intent of replacing his little top hat and Ashley held her breath to see what would happen. Because if she was supposed to get magic, well...
.... that would be pretty kickass.

"YOU DON'T understand! I NEED my HAT!" Theodore wailed, draping his furry body across Mintaka. Even if she let go of him, he would cling to her and prevent her from dropping him. He cared not if she hurt for it, his hat had been lost.
She put something on his head and his ears twitched, because it felt wrong and immediately he was shaking his head. It promptly fell with the way he vigorously shook his head.
"That hat is TRASH." He yowled.. "Just like that senshi is TRASH."
Likely unbeknownst to either girl, he meant literally. Ashley was the senshi of trash.
"I need MY HAT. MINE."

It was surprising to know that a guardian could have such a strong reaction to such a little thing, but well...they all had something that meant something to them.
His yowls continued and he even insulted the new senshi. An apologetic gentle smile was sent towards the woman and she bopped Theodore on the nose. "We'll go back. But there is the monster there...."
She would have to tread carefully, not only to find his hat, but to get the woman fully awakened in the midst of a battle. The things she suffered through....
"This way hun..." She kept a firm hold on the larger guardian, while managing to take the new senshi's hand. "We're gonna g back, but I'll teach you something you don't need your magic yet for..." Soon enough they were back in the alley where the garbage monster's rampage of trash every where could be seen.
She set Theodore down and looked around, trying to spot the monster OR his hat. "We may just get lucky-" She spoke too soon as she heard the shuffling of garbage again in the alley, her gaze raising to the garbage monster.
"We don't have a lot of time now...."

She followed the other girl dutifully (because really, what other choice did she have?), growing more curious as to what the girl intended to do about the monster. The cat was being a beastly thing but being called "trash" wasn't the worst insult she'd been given, so she found it in herself to forgive him for his wailing because he clearly was in some sort of distress.
A shuffle and series of rummaging noises had her turning to look down the street.
"Oh. Is that what you're looking for?"
Her hand stretched out, gesturing towards the backside of the rampaging monster. Atop his goopy, trashy head sat a tiny, perfect little top hat with stripes and everything. It seemed ridiculously small for such a large beast but... well, Ashley wasn't going to judge, not if it meant calming down this bizarre little cat of his hat woes.
"How d'you suppose we get it back?"

"I don't CARE!" Theodore wailed, because youma were minor things that could be handled. Replacing his hat on the other hand? The very thing that made his outfit, that helped define him as the guardian cat to the very best senshi in the UNIVERSE.
His pink eyes shot over to the new senshi (Gorky, he had sussed out but he wouldn't share that until he got his hat, or else they'd leave!) and then to the youma."NO." He practically shrieked. "GET IT BACK BEFORE IT RUINS IT!"
