Fresh snow has fallen over Destiny City for the third time this week; most people seem to have stayed inside today due to a particularly heavy flurry, but you find yourself outside tonight for some reason. The weather has faded, revealing a sparkling night sky. Much of the ground is covered in a crisp layer of snow--but more than that, beautiful flowers in the shape of snowflakes have sprouted in the ground. They grow in small patches and permeate a pleasant, sweet fragrance. If the flowers are not kept in freezing temperatures, they melt, but for the duration of their lifespan they are beautiful, fragile things. In such a busy metropolis, isn't it nice to take a moment to take a moment and appreciate nature? Even if there does seem to be something a little magical about this?

With a very displeased look on her face Brianna flopped down uncerimounsly on her sisters bed in a huff. “I thought the storms were supposed to let up by now.” She let out a groan not unlike a child who just got told there would be no desert after dinner because they had been misbehaving. However, unlike them she hadn’t actually done anything wrong.

“Can’t you do something about it?” She whined, “You are the senshi of cold.”

Fiona turned around in her chair at the mention of her senshi sphere, one brow raised in an almost unamused fashion, “Really? Says the senshi of heat. I have about as much control over the weather as you do.” Although she had to admit that it would be convenient if their magic really worked that way. To a degree it kind of did because during the winter, so long as Fiona was powered up, the temperature really didn’t affect her the same way it did her sister. Which is why the last time they had powered up Eleonora stole her jacket.

Although, it probably did help a bit that she worked at an ice rink as a part time job it meant she acclimated better to colder weathers. “Hey Bre?” Fiona closed her laptop once she had finished writing her email then got up to sit on the bed next to her twin.

“Hmm?” Like a cat Breanna curled herself around Fiona for warmth. “What’s up?”

“Do you remember what happened last year? You know, with those odd snowflakes?” Leaning over she opened the top drawer of her night stand and pulled out the small purple velvet pouch she kept them in. “A year later and they still haven’t melted.”

“Thinking this storm might be like the last one?” Bre reached over to pull out three frozen snowflakes no larger than the size of a quarter. Unchanged from the day the two of them had collected dozens of the unique little trinkets. Two of them had been turned into pendants the rest well, just sat in her sisters room stowed away in the drawer.

“I don’t know, maybe.” With an elegant shrug Fiona put the bag away again.

“You know what I think -”

“Yes Bre, I know what you think.” For a moment she wasn’t sure if she should roll her eyes or laugh at this point. The suggestion was always the same, we should power up and go see what’s up. Even though they were twins they couldn’t really be any more different, heck even their spheres were polar opposites. “The answer is still no.”

And there it was that pouty puppy dog face that never worked to sway her decision. “Come on, you know why I don’t like powering up. The last time we did we followed some self proclaimed leader right into the heart of the negaverse and we almost died. When it comes down to it this isn’t our fight.”

“What about Athene or Liryn?”

“Please don’t.” Yes they were friends but it didn’t change the fact that she was actually scared of powering up since that day. “We can go outside but I mean it when I saw no powering up.” In truth Fiona knew that she had no real say in if her sister went off to fight evil or whatever it was they were supposed to do on her own. She was an adult and was responsible of her own actions but still, why couldn’t she just listen this once. “Sometimes I feel more like your mother than sister I swear. Go get something warm on and we can see if there are any unique snowflakes out there.

“Alright, alright” Bre rolled off the side of the bed lazily. “Meet you downstairs then?”

“Yeah, just give me a few minutes and I’ll get ready.” Fiona offered her sister a lopsided smile. It was a small consolation prize but at least it was something.

Both girls took their time getting their winter clothes on; long johns under a pair of snow pants, gloves and a long winter coat with a fur trimmed hood. Luckily, by the time they reconvenened downstairs the snowfall had begun to slow enough that they could at least see down the street. “So what are we looking for?”

“I don’t know. Something out of the ordinary I guess.” Unlike looking for a needle in a haystack there was a distinct possibility that this storm simply was mother nature's doing. Then again, when was anything in Destiny City ever that easy to explain?

Their adventure had actually begun relatively slow since neither of them had bothered to shovel out the driveway for the last few days. Over eight inches had piled up making it a bit difficult to reach the sidewalk where the snow plows had thankfully cleared the way earlier that morning. All was quiet outside with the exception of the sound of snow and ice crunching beneath their feet or when a branch snapped under the weight sending a cascade of thin ice chunks thumping to the ground across the street.

They hadn’t even been outside for ten minutes before Fiona could hear her sister start to sniffle, “Forgot kleenex didn’t you?” she reached into her pocket and produced one of those travel sized bags of kleenex and handed it to her twin.

“Mayybee-” With a nose as red as Rudolph's, Breanna took the offered tissue and blue her nose. “Thank you.” As she shoved the snot-rag into her own pocket a glimmer of something caught her eye. “Those are kind of pretty.” Bre pointed at the small patch of frost flowers in one of their neighbors yards. “Interesting little decorations.”

“I-don’t think they’re decorations…” Fiona pointed to an identical patch of frozen flowers beside a rhododendron and another just below one of their other neighbors window. Perhaps it was because they had been too distracted by the snowfalling to bother looking down but now that Breanna had pointed them out it seemed that they, quite literally, were everywhere.

“See… and you thought that this was just an ordinary storm” Fi received a pointed nudge in the side from her sisters elbow.

“Ohe could hope,” she openly admitted.

“Lets go get some to add to your snowflake collection!” With an excited expression Breanna seemed to have forgotten how cold she was just a few seconds prior as she clumsily ran across someone's yard to the patch she had pointed out. “Mmmm, it smells like sugar cookies over here. You know, like the ones Grandma Anna use to make.”

Piqued by curiosity Fiona carefully followed her sisters tracks if only to make her journey to her a bit easier. “Oh wow,” she commented in surprise, as her sister handed her one of the blooms, they really did smell like sweets. Sadly the simple act of breathing too close to it and she took in it’s fragrance was enough to cause the edge of a few petals to begin to melt. “I don’t think we’ll be able to take these home.”

Breanna had been about to ask why but as she turned around and saw that these little delicate blooms were not enchanted by the same magic as the previous year, her whole demeanor drastically changed. “Damn… What about your home world?”

“Hmm? What about it?”

“It’s cold there right? Maybe we can get together some of these and you can take them there!” Not to remain disheartened she pitched another hopeful idea.

“I guess that’s true…” Though they had no idea if the magic surrounding these flowers was good in nature or something more invasive. “I suppose we can try taking a few”

“Yay!” Breanna jumped up and threw her arms around her twin. “Thank you, thank you!” A small victory had been won since this small approval meant that they would get to power up and actually maybe do something fun.
