Quote: At some point, you notice a present nestled somewhere in your house that you've never seen before. Maybe it's somewhere obvious, maybe it's sitting on a window sill or hidden in the back of your closet. It's decorated very festively, with a cursive script letting you know that the present's owner is none other than yourself but there's no sender listed on the tag. Who in the world could have put it there? Opening the present reveals an item that you've sorely wanted for some time now but haven't been able to afford or haven't allowed yourself the pleasure of buying. The trouble is that you've never told a soul about wanting it. Who could have known? And how did it get there? There was very little in this world that Crocoite could not get if he wanted it. He was a devious business man, rich and powerful through a long life of earning things the hard, sometimes less than legal, way. He was now able to relax, leaving his company to be run by others while he played with his little antique shop in town and focused on getting his revenge on his forgotten family.
It was a rather nice life, all told, now that he had this Chaos power to aid him in his one real goal.
That being said, he was surprised to find the perfect present in his fancy apartment, sitting on the fireplace that was undecorated for the holiday. He hated Christmas, and the pretty little present stuck out like a sore thumb around all the other non-existent christmas decorations of his home. He had almost thrown it out the moment he saw it, but a few questions sprang to mind.
Most importantly, where did it come from? He did not much care for who left it, since he knew he had no friends to speak of and no one would bother seeking him out. That left only a few choices. His house cleaner, trying to secure a raise? Or his General, who could have teleported in while he was not aware, and then left.
Somehow, he doubted Painite was the sentimental type when it came to her 'minions'.
At the very least, his curiosity got the better of him. In case it was a 'test', and something dangerous, he decided to power up and go to some place safe enough for him to open it without destroying his civilian home and body. He went to the park, as concern for other humans was not on his list of things to look out for. Sitting on a bench, he looked at the box thoughtfully for a moment more before he opened it.
Inside was a beautiful, hand crafted rose made from various gem stones, painstakingly cut into the perfect shake and connected together with silvery metal. He held it up, turning it in the light of the lamps around the bench, admiring the way the colors bounced out around him.
He remembered seeing it in a stand on the street one night, while hunting. They were just closing up shop and he approached them, even powering down to do so, offering to trade them for it. They declined his offer, saying it was not meant for him. He told them it reminded him of someone, and he wanted to preserve that memory in those stones, but they once again informed him that he was not the 'right' soul for it. They seemed to sense something in him. Perhaps they saw his darkness for what it was. Strangely, he opted not to power up, and let them live despite them denying him what he wanted.
He watched them pack it up carefully and head to their van, wishing him a merry christmas and telling him they hoped he found what he truly wanted.
Looking at the rose now, he wondered just what that meant.

The package had been.. Unsettling, the box neatly tucked away in a cupboard.
It wasn't the fact that it was a box per se - after all she had a few of those tucked out of sight, with the odd bits and ends carefully stacked up in them.
No it wasn't that it was a box, but rather a box that appeared to be some sort of package. One that had been neatly wrapped in silvery wrapping paper that was clearly not the cheap stuff.
She'd opened it - of course she had - mouth dropping open at the shoes that had been nestled inside the very fancy shoe box–
And so rather than trying to work out who had bought her the pair of super expensive (and totally) impractical shoes that she had been wanting since she saw them nestled in a shop window at the mall a few months back, she had slipped out and found somewhere to power up.
Although powering up hadn't been enough to stop her thinking about the mysterious gift, even if she had tried to at least spend her time as Reinerite productively - aka draining energy from some of the more enthusiastically christmassy people out and about.
She had paused for a break when she picked up on the second chaotic aura and had decided on a whim to try and track it down - which had in time led her to the park.
"Good evening Lieutenant" her grey eyes took in the object that the other officer held in their hands in curiosity, a curiosity that was reflected in her voice as she stepped closer.Lithiasaur Hope it's okay for me to toss my Nega Captain, Reinerite in here Lith <3

Crocoite felt the aura approaching, but was not troubled from his musings by it. It was Chaos, after all, which meant it was not liable to attack him. At least not until he insulted them or did something to bring out their bad side, as he was very good at doing. Sometimes on accident, usually on purpose.
He did bring the rose down, holding it closer to himself and looking over at the Captain after a long moment. He nodded his head at her, a slightly bow, if only because she was a superior officer to him.
"Good evening, ma'am," he said respectfully. He was doing his best to get up the ladder, so to speak, and he knew that it took a certain amount of hard work and butt kissing to get there. He had to play nice when it was due, though most of the time he found the Captains and Generals to not be all that bad.
He supposed a giant group of like minded people, people who joined for power or who just had a lot of hate inside them, made it easy to get along with them.
Noting the way she was looking at the rose, he held it out to her, the stones shimmering in the dim light.
"I found this in my home. I was not sure who put it there, a christmas present of some kind. I came out here to open it, in case it was a trap from my General. That does not seem to be the case."

As it happened the Lieutenant was correct in his assumption that an attack was not imminently forthcoming from Reinerite's direction, nor was it even something that had even crossed her mind–
After all she wasn't in the business of attacking fellow officers for no reason - she reserved that for the Order pests that seemed to infest the city for the most part.
Tonight appeared to have been the exception and she had managed to go about her business without any pesky interruptions so far.
"It seems quiet" she admitted as her grey eyes took in the object that he held out to her that turned out to be a rose, thinking about it before amending it to "At least on the Order front" because there had been no end of Christmas-loving people out there who seemed to think that they needed to spread the cheer about.
She blinked startled as he mentioned that he had found it in his home, if only because it made her think of the mysterious package that she had found in her own apartment.
"That is quite a generous mystery present" she said, grey eyes thoughtful as she debated for a few moments on whether to admit to her own mysterious parcel.
"You don't suppose that there's someone around trying to play Santa do you?" She was shaking her head even as she spoke the words however, because it was probably just coincidence.

"I doubt that very much, really. There is no one who would know that I even saw this rose, let alone that I tried to barter for it. Unless those shop keepers were actually agents that were not powered up... I suppose it was lucky for them that I decided not to take their starseeds for denying me it. But how would they know where I live as a civilian?"
Did the negaverse watch them THAT closely? He suddenly realized he had no real idea how the highest of the higher ups worked. He only really knew Painite and how she ran things, but that was clearly a much different tactic than most. She would most certainly not get him such a beautiful gift.
And he had not shared the story with her, anyway. Was she watching him, to that intense a degree?
It made the whole thing seem creepy, not kind or Christmasy. This was one of the many reasons why he hated the holidays. People thought they were doing kind things, but were ultimately causing more problems than they really thought about. Not quite the Gift of the Magi, but close enough.
"Why? Have you had a gift as well?" She had not asked him, he noted, if someone was playing secret santa for him, but rather if there was one in general. If it wasn't an isolated incident, it definitely meant something bigger and, in a way, scarier was going on. Not that he would ever admit to being unnerved by something as silly as a christmas present.

"I figured" Reinerite admitted, because even while she was asking the question it had sounded unlikely and whilst it was possible that the mentioned shop keepers were, as the Lieutenant had mentioned, unpowered agents - the whole idea sounded about as improbable as there being some mysterious person playing Santa running around.
She nodded at the question about whether she too had a gift, not really having any real reason not to answer "Strangely enough, yes - and the gift giver seemed to know of my aversion to the overtly Christmassy given that they managed to find wrapping paper that avoided being Christmassy."
Expensive paper - yes. Pretty paper - yes - but still paper that had avoided being Christmassy.
"I'm assuming that it was just coincidence though - I couldn't picture anyone in the Negaverse buying it for me - and it certainly wasn't friends or any of my family."

Crocoite looked a little confused, though he did not like showing things like that on his face. In general, he wanted to be a put together, cool, calm, and enigmatic figure inside the Negaverse. So being baffled by a christmas present was really not supposed to be on the cards.
And yet here he was, wondering who could have possibly given him such a beautiful rose of crystals.
"Not a fan of this holiday either, hm? That's a comfort, at least," he sighed, loosening up a little bit. He'd been so tense and grumpy these past few days, his jaw and even his eyebrows were hurting from all the frowning. It was very difficult for him to find people he wanted to talk to, so it was nice to at least engage in a simple conversation that, he hoped at least, did not devolve into a fight or something sillier.
Who knew what magic could be laced in these presents. He'd already been annoyed by little snow fairies, and made to sing in a battle. The whole thing was ridiculous. Not to mention the whole 'ice building of bad memories' thing he'd run across.
At least he'd gotten some energy out of that one.
"well, I suppose the whole point is for us not to know, but to appreciate the thought. I would, however, prefer that strangers do not find their way into my home. I do try to keep this life and my civilian work separate."

"No," and whilst Reinerite's answer to the question was no more than a single word, it was mayhaps clear from the disdain in her tone that she had no love of this particular holiday.
Her lips quirked up in a smile as she added, "Although I have found that some of the more into this season people are less bothersome once they have finished donating to the Negaverse - especially when said donations have been particularly generous."
And whilst said donors had no idea of being so, it wasn't something that pricked Reinerite's conscience - after all she was only making the annoyances more useful - was doing them a favour really.
She nodded in agreement as he mentioned trying to keep Negaverse duties apart from his civilian life, because it was something that she could understand–
Because Reinerite didn't particularly want her family or friends to know about the Reinerite aspect of her life either.
Hopefully the strange gift was a one-time thing however.
"By the way my name is Reinerite," it seemed apt for her to give her name given how long they'd been chatting.

Crocoite grinned, nodding his head. He had to agree: energy gathering this time of year was a lot easier. And there was something particularly satisfying in taking a starseed and knowing it was going to ruin someone's good time. At least it was a Christmas their loved ones would never forget.
If he were afraid of karma, he probably had a lot of the bad kind already stocked up, and this holiday was just going to triple it.
"Ah, forgive me," Crocoite said, offering her his hand, holding the rose in his other hand carefully. Though he wanted to pretend it meant nothing to him, and the idea that someone had gone out of their way to get it for him was unsettling, he was definitely holding it like it was precious. "My name is Crocoite. It's a pleasure to speak with you, Reinerite. I tend to not have luck when it comes to conversation with other soldiers, though that may be more on my end than theirs."
He grinned, knowing full well he was a grump and a jerk to boot. Just because he liked to get under people's skin, and really see what made them tick. Most just did not appreciate that, which was understandable.
