There's nothing quite like a horse-drawn carriage ride through the snowy banks of Destiny City's outskirts. The trees are covered with snow, icicles sparkle in the sunlight and if you peer hard enough, you might even be lucky enough to spot a wild deer or critter hiding behind one of the multitudes of trees. Whether you decide to go alone or take a friend or loved one, it's clear that the carriage service being offered near the carnival is too good of a deal to pass up.

Randomize a number between 1-10 to determine your course of action! You will need to randomize a new number to correspond with each prompt.

Prompts

Prompt 1 - All Aboard!
As you stand next in line for your turn for a ride, a beautiful stallion soon arrives to the waiting area, pulling behind it an ornate, elegant looking carriage cart. Despite having taken several rides before you, the horse seems to be full of energy and the driver as cheerful as ever. The party before you leaves the ride, so now it's your turn to hop on!

1-3: Your foot rises to the step but thanks to your snow-covered shoe, you manage to slip and fall backwards, right into the snow. Embarrassed and now slightly damp, you hurry your way up into the carriage before even more people notice your embarrassing blunder.

4-6: Someone behind you manages to bump into you, no doubt an impatient customer waiting for their turn to ride the romantic looking carriage. Being the better person, you ignore their existence and climb your way up onto the cart.

7-10: You rise up into the carriage effortlessly and settle in onto the comfortable seat cushion. A vibrantly colored cardinal flies down, perching on the side of the cart before serenading you with a delightful tune. What a way to start a fun adventure!

Prompt 2 - Rides Will Resume Shortly... Woah! Wait!
Pulling the provided blanket onto your lap, it's time for your ride to begin!

…… or it would be, but your driver is quickly dismounting from his seat, apologizing profusely as he feels the need to visit the restroom prior to leaving. Ah, well, a few minutes wait won't hurt, right?

Your horse seems to think otherwise, though, as not seconds after the driver reaches for the horse's reins to tie them up, the stallion seems to be spooked by something that no one else sees. With a terrified whinny, he rears up and begins a sprint - carrying you behind in tow!

It looks like your adventure is beginning - but without a driver!

1-3: In an attempt to jump out of the carriage before it can run away with you inside, you lose your balance and fall backwards. With a loud thunk, your head hits the back end of the wooden lining, leaving a painful lump and a reminder to keep hands and legs inside the vehicle at all times - ouch!

4-6: The start of your ride has proven to be far more bumpy than you intended. You grab on to whatever you can as the cart lurches forward and to the side, tossing you around. Hopefully you don't get motion sickness very easily...

7-10: The sudden breeze whooshes through your hair, somehow making it look even more beautiful than it already looked. Although you've been tossed into a startling situation, you're at least comfortable beneath the thick blanket as the carriage goes careening down the hill.

Prompt 3 - Forest of No Return??
The carriage heads straight for the dense forest in front of you, the poor stallion still running at top notch speed away from.. well, whatever initially spooked the beast. As the vehicle lurches and rocks from side to side, you find that there's an even more ominous threat laying straight ahead of you.

Rather -- right at eye level with you!

Branches loom in the air like spindly, gnarled fingers reaching for you and you'll have to utilize your best dodging skills to avoid getting smacked (or worse!)

1-3: As you manage to duck away from the network of thin branches reaching out for you, you fail to see the HUGE one coming at you from the other angle. It's practically a log in mid-air and you feel the impact of the thick wood as it crashes against the side of your head. Your vision goes blurry and you're thrown down to the bottom of the carriage - yikes. Maybe you should stay down there for the next while.

4-6: Ducking and dodging comes pretty easily for you. While you still get nicked and scraped a bit from the smaller, harder to see branches, you manage to come out of the forest fairly intact.

7-10: Using your superior intellect, you immediately duck towards the bottom of the carriage and throw the comfortable blanket over your head, protecting you from the rough and scratchy branches up above. What a clever person you are!

Prompt 4 - Wolves? No one said anything about wolves...

Just as you think you've made your way out of the worst of the forest, a series of ominous howls close by assures you that you definitely have not seen the worst. It doesn't take long for the wolves to appear from within the shadows. Golden eyes and snarling fangs begin the chase - whether they're going after your poor horse or after you is still yet to be determined.

Let's just hope your horse still has some energy left in him to get you out of this bind.

1-3: Leaning over, you decide the best course of action is to toss out any unnecessary items to help lighten the load. While it was a good idea in theory, one especially hungry wolf decides that your flailing hand is the perfect target for its next meal. You're able to draw back your hand quick enough but not fast enough not to get a pretty nasty bite -- oh no!!!

4-6: Grabbing your shoe from off your foot (or your partner's, if it's easier to access), you promptly smack the closest wolf on the snout with the rubber sole. It lets out a sorrowful cry, its mate quick to the rescue by snatching the shoe from out of your hand. You managed to scare at least two of them off but at the cost of your footwear. Congrats....?

7-10: A wayward branch passes by you as your carriage lurches forward, fortuitously finding its way into your hand and snapping clean off the tree it came from. As if a gift from some higher being, you take advantage of this blessing and use your new "weapon" to fend you (and possibly any loved ones) from the ravenous wolves around your carriage.

Prompt 5 - Sink or Swim!
The wolves seem to fall back and you're grateful for whatever reason they decided to abandon their hunt... until you glance back towards the front of the carriage and see the choppy water of the cold, rushing river ahead of you. Your horse doesn't seem to think about the potential of drowning as it drags you and your vehicle into the water, splashing as he tromps his way forward.

Time to decide whether or not you're going to sink or swim!

1-3: You hold your breath with the impending fear of being swept away by the current as the water overtakes the carriage. In your worry of being pushed out by the water, you don't actually think about how long you've been holding your breath and before you know it, you (choose):

Grow faint and dizzy. In a few more seconds, you're passing out onto the floor of the carriage.

Manage to exhale but an extremely floppy trout comes sailing out of the water and smacks you on the side of the head, knocking you out cold.

Either way, you fail to wake up until the carriage reaches the other side of the river.

4-6: The carriage shakes and wobbles against the rushing current but your stallion proves stronger than the water and manages to carry him and you forward and across the river. Water does manage to come splashing in and soak your clothing but at least you didn't drown, right?

7-10: Curling up as tightly as you can, you somehow manage to miss every wayward drop of water that splashes nearby. Maybe you're just in the right spot in the carriage or maybe the timing is just right but you make it out of the river just as dry as you were when you went into it.

Prompt 6 - At least the horse knows its way...
As the stallion leaves the river and climbs his way back up onto the banks, he seems to finally be tuckered out from all of the excitement and exercise. Although his trot is significantly slower, the animal seems to know where it's going and soon you're approaching a small field with an array of flowers - an odd sight to see in the middle of winter but it's there, nevertheless.

As the beast comes to a halt to begin munching on a few of the colorful flowers, a small, sparkly burst of color zips by your head and for a second, you wonder if your tired mind is playing tricks on you.

1-3: You can't seem to figure out what the sparkle was but the sudden chill in the air has you pulling up the blanket over your shoulders out of habit... only to discover that it was soaked by the river ride. Ugh.

4-6: There's a small giggle in the air but like the light, it vanishes without a trace. Your horse seems relatively more soothed than the beginning of your adventure and for the first time in what feels like forever, you're able to relax in your cart.

7-10: More small balls of light whiz by your head as you sit in the now-still cart. They look like fireflies but larger; it's hard to get a good look at them with the way they're bouncing around but it's fascinating to watch all the same.

User Image

A nearby carriage arrives, apparently having witnessed your dunk into the treacherous river. The worried looking driver hops down from his cart and quickly takes your horse's reins, securing it before assisting you down from your ride. The riders on his carriage scoot over to allow you room to join them. In about ten minutes, you're returned back to the clearing where you started at - your adventure is now over. You may want to reconsider, the next time you want to take a carriage ride out into the woods!

You may use this final 'prompt' as a way to wrap your post. Your final post should include the tally of all of the numbers that you have generated between prompts 1-6.

As a reminder, if you've written 500 words or more throughout the course of your posts for a single character you may claim a ticket in the Holiday Raffle linking back to this thread!

A carriage ride sounded awesome. It would be so romantic to take with someone if she was actually in a relationship and had someone to go with. Not that the person who she was going to go on the ride with was not someone she didnt want to go with. She looked over at her father. She would pick hanging out with him over anyone anytime.

Thank you for coming with me.

Her father smiled at her.

No problem sweetie.

Kaileen turned her head toward a tap tap noise. The most beautifully horse she had ever seen was coming down the street. It was all white and was dressed in gold. But its eyes was the most beautiful sight that Kaileen had ever seen. They were a lightish gray with pink flecks.

The carriage stopped right in front of her and her father. He opened the door for her to step on the carriage.

“Thank you.”

She picked her feet up and started to get into the carriage when her snow covered boots slipped and she fell. She heard a few snickers from the crowd. She got up quickly embrassed. She tried to play if off hoping no one else would notice her fall.

Amigar had heard of some magical carriage rides going on in town. She was determined to be one of the first people there, since it sounded beautiful and who knew what kind of inspiration it might give her for the bakery. Plus she was a girl at heart and she had always wanted to go on one. She wondered if it would be anything like she dreamed of it being.

As she waited patiently in line she heard the horses hooves come up right in front of her in the waiting area. The horse was beautiful and white as snow. She had never seen one like them before, as they stood tall, and pulled a Cinderella looking carriage behind them. "So Magical..." she said in awe of the beauty.

She was so in awe she didn't even notice the other riders exit and the only thing that woke her from her awe. Was the sound of someone yelling "next"!

"Coming!" she said back as she realized it was her turn. She rushed up to the carriage in her purple dress with white scarf atoned with purple hearts.

As she reached the carriage she looked at the step and stepped very elegantly up into the carriage. Thankfully, all went well. She was ecstatic - and glad she had watched her mothers elegance at all of those fashion shows.

She then walked through the door and took a sit on one of the beautiful cushions. They were so soft and fluffy. As she waited for the ride to begin she watched as something flew and landed on the side of cart.

It was a beautiful cardinal with magical coloring's. "Oh wow that would make a wonderful design for a dessert," she said as she tried to remember the colors in her head. Just as she was thinking it begin to sing a tune she hadn't heard in a long time. The song was Le Bonhomme de Neige. Childhood memories from the times with her family in France rushed though her head as she tried to sing along.

"À la sortie de l’école (At the end of school)
J’ai fait un très beau bonhomme (I made a handsome snowman)
Avec un joli cache-col (With a lovely scarf)
Droit comme un majordome (Standing straight and tall as a butler)"
she sang.

This journey was already more magical then she could of hoped and it hadn't even begun yet.

Kaileen quickly got into the carriage. Her father got into it and sat beside her. He picked up the blanket that was provided for everyone and gave them to his daughter.

“It is a little chilly out tonight dear. Put one your lap and wrap the other around you. I don’t need it I am good.”

“Thank you father.”

Kaileen did as her father told her. Then turned toward the driver.

“Sir, we are ready to go.

But instead of taking off the driver got out of the carriage.

“Sorry but small bathroom break. I really have to twinkle. I will be right back.”

The driver started toward the restrooms. Kaileen didn’t seem to mind. More time with her father. She turned toward him and started to tell him how she was doing in school. The horse started to act werid. It was shaking its head and making noises. Then all of a sudden it took off taking Kaileen and her father with it.

Kaileen thought of the only thing she could of. She jumped out of the carriage big mistake!

As she finished singing along she notice the bird fly off into the distance. Just as they did a huge gust of wind blew through the carriage she gently pulled the blank onto her lap and watched the ride begin.

Just then Amigar hears the drive say restroom break she nodded her head. "okay no worries," she said kindly as she waited patiently for the driver to return.

Sadly that wait wasn't long as she felt the carriage begin to move but without the driver. "Whats happening," she said hanging onto the carriage for dear life. the driver tried to grab the reins but something happened and it didn't work. she could feel herself being thrown around and her hair could feel the breeze whooshing through. Roll Total: 10

Bella had heard about this sleigh ride through a client at The Refuge who had dropped a flier off at their last appointment. The idea had seemed magical at the time, and it proved to be even more so now. Bella had dressed in her favorite holiday outfit -- an off white sheath dress made of cotton overlaid with matching lace, long, cotton sleeves that hugged her arms, a warm underskirt to keep her legs warm, and a long, sweeping cape lined with soft faux-fur meant to emulate a white wolf's. She had flipped the hood of the cape up over her head to protect her ears from the cold. At her back and under the cloak, Nenharma rested placidly, the cool curve of him pressing into her lightly. She smiled lightly at the sensation, her heartwarming as she traced the line of him with her mind.

The cheerful whinny of a stallion caught her attention and drew it from Nenharma. Bella's breath caught in her throat at the sight of the beautiful beast happily and powerfully pulling such a grand sleigh. The stallion was as white as the snow around them and higher than Bella thought horses could ever be. He tossed his white mane, as though noticing Bella's admiration of him, and stamped his feet against the road. The driver hopped down out of the cart, clad in the most charmingly old-timey garb and took Bella's hand to aid her ascent to her seat.

Yes. Magical was exactly the word for this carriage ride.

And to complete the picture, a ruby red cardinal, the same vermillion shade as her cloak, landed lightly on the rail of the carriage and began to sing to her as she waited for her ride to commence.

Magical.

Between the lined cloak at her back and the fluffy blanket across her lap, Bella was very cozy indeed, smiling gently as even the winter air around her seemed pleasant. she suddenly wished very dearly for some hot cocoa and maybe something to nibble on, as that would have been the only way this moment could have been any more perfect, but alas, she was without both of those things. So instead she folded her hands carefully in her lap and adjusted the thick brown curls spilling out over her shoulders from underneath her hood. In truth, she felt like eleven royalty sitting the way that she was!

That is, she felt that way until the carriage lurched suddenly, causing her to call out in a most unladylike way. She kept her balance, however, by grabbing on to the rails of the carriage with both hands and holding on with all that she was worth. The horse's sudden explosion of energy had knocked her hood off, sending her hair flying in a most unflattering way across her face while her body rocked this way and that.

Distantly, she wondered what Arwen would do in this moment. Probably shuck off her cloak and climb onto the stallions back without hesitation or issue. But Bella Emmanuella was not Arwen, so she was relegated to clinging to the sides of the carriage, trying her best not to get flung out of the thing.

Just as Bella finally got her hair to settle down and settle behind her head instead of right in front her eyes, her breath caught in her throat.

The woods.

Bella's vision was filled with the twisted and gnarled branches of the woods before her, curling like wicked hands to grab and tear at her.

What would Arwen do?

Well, Arwen would be riding bravely astride the stallion, forcing it to a stop with her masterful riding skills, but Bella was still in the back. But what if Arwen had still been in the back for some reason? What would she do then?

Cover. She'd look for cover. With precious seconds ticking away, Bella glanced eagerly around her to figure something out, clutching anxiously at the blanket in her lap.

The blanket.

Without a second thought, Bella ducked under the blanket and pressed herself into the floor on the floor of the carriage for protection. And it worked, much to her surprise. She could feel the branches scraping against the blanket, but she remained unscathed.

As the feeling of branches against the blanket subsided, Bella emerged from her cover, tossing her now thoroughly tousled hair out of her face to take in her surroundings. The branches were no longer a threat, she could see, but she could also see that there was another obstacle on her tail. Bella hadn't realized that she had screamed until a moment later and clapped a hand over her mouth as though the sound would give away her position. Around her, the wolves snarled and snapped, leaping to get into the carriage as the stallion who pulled it wailed and foamed with his ceaseless trek.

In an effort to either lighten the load of the brave and no doubt exhausted stallion or confuse the wolves around her, Bella tossed the blanket out of the carriage, only to pull her hand back a moment later covered in blood. For a moment she wondered if one of the wolves was bleeding and she'd caught hold of it, but searing pain soon dispelled that theory. The skin on her skin was roughly torn, and the blood was pouring from the wound.

What would Arwen do?

On the seat before her, Bella noticed a shawl that someone before her had left. Swiftly, she snatched it up and wrapped it around her hand to stop the flow of blood.

The wolves were retreating. They were leaving, and Bella let out a sigh of relief, leaning back to appreciate the relative peace and the press of her bow against her back. Nenharma was still there and he was intact and he was proud of her. Bella knew it. She could feel it in his grain and in her heart. He was about to take him off of her back and hold him in her hands when she finally realized exactly why the wolves fell back.

This time there was no questioning. The second Bella saw the rushing water she knew what to do. Setting her face, she flipped her hood back up over her head and covered as much of herself as she could with her cloak. The water was freezing, but while it soaked her cloak, it didn't touch her clothing or skin beneath it. She rose again and flung it off, shivering slightly in the cold but no worse for the wear really.

Result
7-10: More small balls of light whiz by your head as you sit in the now-still cart. They look like fireflies but larger; it's hard to get a good look at them with the way they're bouncing around but it's fascinating to watch all the same.

The stallion slowed with a ferocious noise and Bella finally finally heaved a sigh of relief. She felt Nenharma exhale against her as well, and she reached around to pull him to her front at last. While the stallion milled around seemingly on some kind of quest, she inspected the bow in her hands, checking for cracks along his wood or fraying at his drawstring. Seeing that there was none, she finally stood on the deck of the carriage and looked around her.

Now that was odd. Certainly, it was too cold to allow for any flowering plant... and yet here it was, by the scores. All around her, the snowy woods were carpeted with colorful blooms. Bella was about to hop out of the carriage to inspect the plants when something out of the corner caught her eyes. Like someone had waved a sparkler next to her temple or something. And then there were more. Bright motes of colored lights, like Christmas tree lights, dancing around her, too fast for her to truly see. Whenever she tried to get a good look at one, it zoomed away, and when she reached out to touch the few that came close, it danced away again, like a rainbow forever out of sight.

"Magical," Bella breathed.

Kaileen almost fell out of the carriage. Her father had grabbed her.

"Be careful sweetie. The horse must have been spooked by something."

Kaileen grabbed on to her father. It was what she saw that got her worried. There was a tree with branches coming ahead and they looked to be about level to her face. She quickly took the blanket that was over her lap and covered her head. Hopefully that would do the trick.
