Quote: At some point, you notice a present nestled somewhere in your house that you've never seen before. Maybe it's tucked under the Christmas tree, maybe it's sitting on a window sill or hidden in the back of your closet. It's decorated very festively, with a cursive script letting you know that the present's owner is none other than yourself but there's no sender listed on the tag. Who in the world could have put it there? Opening the present reveals an item that you've sorely wanted for some time now but haven't been able to afford or haven't allowed yourself the pleasure of buying. The trouble is that you've never told a soul about wanting it. Who could have known? And how did it get there? It was the first holiday that they would be spending together, and Derrick was helping Key in decorating the apartment. They had to go out and buy some decorations since he never really celebrated any of them, and the decorations that Key had didn't seem to be enough. Either way it was a bit fun to go shopping together, on purpose this time. Currently he was working on hanging some decorations on the plastic tree they had gotten, something he hadn't expected to ever have in his apartment, but he wasn't against it's presence in any way. It was kind of nice to have actually. Or at least it felt nicer to have it when celebrating with someone else rather than just himself. He dug into the box for another ornament, fiddling around with one of the hooks when he noticed something under the tree near the back of it. It was a present, but one that looked out of place for some reason. Reaching down he grabbed it and looked at the tag. He was surprised when he read it and it looked like it was for him! That's when he noticed that there was a second present underneath the tree. Another strange one. Strange because so far they had both told each other they hadn't done any shopping, and he certainly hadn't told Key about what he had wanted yet. And since this was Destiny City and they were a Knight and a Senshi... "Key! You know anything about this present?" He asked, hoping to get her attention. "I found it under the tree... and there's a second one too."Sleet Tempest Snape Tell me if you want anything changed/I assumed too much!

Shopping together, for things to decorate their home with, was a new and thrilling thing for Key. Perhaps she had stuck a bit close to Derrick's side but that was ok, this was new and she wanted to enjoy it. The shopping was good, though there had been that one kid running about who had almost run headlong right into her while she had her arms full of ornament boxes. She had just managed, thankfully, to not drop them and had gotten them into the shopping cart they'd been using to hold their decorations in.
Settled into the apartment now, thankfully, it felt a good deal like home already though the tree and decorations was making it feel warmer - cozier. It was a feeling she liked this time of year, it was why she was making hot chocolate from scratch in the kitchen. She would, once the drinks were done, join Derrick in finishing with the tree and then they could continue with the rest of what they'd gotten. She had decided the windows could use some lights. Nothing insane, like one of the apartments down the hall, they just needed simple lights.
She had gotten a stocking for the other, having one of her own which she used to hang up in her own solitary apartment. It now would have a companion to hang beside. She wanted to make this first holiday together as warm and enjoyable as possible. She knew things could go wrong, especially in this city, but so long as they tried she was ok with it.
Hearing the call from him she peeked out of the kitchen and tilted her head a bit, "Present....two of them? No....I don't know anything about them. I haven't had time to do any shopping...I was planning to do it this weekend actually." She still was hoping to figure out what to get her partner...she wanted to get something he'd appreciate and enjoy.
"Is there a tag on either of them?" Going back into the kitchen, for the moment, she turned the heat off and poured the drinks before coming out with the cups on a tray. Setting them down she went to peek at what he was holding. "For you? I didn't get anything yet." Though she would soon.
"I wonder how it got here.." And what it was...she didn't trust it though, and she doubted she needed to voice that either. He was a senshi and she wouldn't be surprised if he was suspicious of the gift as well.

Derrick felt a bit of a chill go up his spine when Key had replied that she hadn't gotten anything yet. It confirmed his suspicions. Something was definitely up. For all he knew it was a youma-bomb or something. Like youma-bedbugs, but they would be invisible instead. Because what good could possibly come from a present that appeared out of nowhere? He sniffed the air and could smell the hot chocolate coming closer, which he could just take it as a shot to heat himself back up. The chill this present was giving him did not care that he was in a heavy hoodie. He sighed. "Well, something is up then. Neither of us have gone shopping." He reached back to grab the other present, holding it out to Key. "You want to check this one out? They could contain anything at this point. I honestly just want to throw it into the trash. Or the fireplace. Honestly the fireplace sounds the best." Of course if there was something plastic in there then that would smell to high heck... he was willing to take the risk though.

Taking the offered gift, the tray set down and waiting for them to take their drinks, she looked the gift over. "It's for me....Do we assume someone, or something, broke in without us knowing and dropped these here? Or something magical?" Either was an option though she was willing to bet it was magic and not a break in, they'd have known. The door would have told them or they'd have known due to the alarm or something. There would be a tell.
"The holidays really aren't safe...but there is no way to tell what the cause is. Everything doesn't match up. Bunnies and ice that people can't get off doors so they can get in or out. Now this. Not to mention Halloween and everything that's happening during both holidays. Nothing makes sense." There was nothing in common other than everything happening during the holidays. The actual things happening didn't all work together. If there was more in common she would be happy, she wanted to track it all down and find the cause - and remove it.
"Should we open them? Together....It can't be that bad...right?" If it was a youma it would have already left the box...they didn't seem the sort of things to hide in boxes.

"Well, for all we know, Santa could be a Negaverse Agent." He replied shrugging, giving her a weak smile. He was trying to make a joke out of the situation, but anytime the Negaverse was brought up, it always dampened the mood, no matter where either of them were. "But yeah, something always comes up this time of year. You have to wonder why it's these holidays and not say, summer solstice or something. Instead it's just October and December." He took another look at the present. "How about we open one at a time though, just in case?" Though if one of them was something that exploded, opening one at a time wouldn't help. A glitter bomb would still forever leave it's mark in the apartment. He let out a frustrated sigh. "All right I'll open mine first and see what it is." He said, looking for the flaps so that he could tear it open.

"That implies Santa is real." Which everyone, at least everyone by their age, knew wasn't the truth. There was no way someone got into a flying sleigh, pulled by reindeer, and fit down peoples chimneys. "If Santa is real though and is in the Negaverse I hope someone spikes his cookies and milk." And would do everyone a favor and remove him. Because she wasn't a fan of Negaverse agents, especially when they ruined the holiday season. It was bad enough it was cold out this time of year.
"And it's not Easter either. It is interesting and I wish there was more in common other than time of year and there being holidays that these things disrupt. There is just nothing to trace." Whch bothered her. She didn't like not having a clue, not being able to figure out what was the cause of it all and beating it till it stopped. She wanted the holidays to at least be normal, even if it would be freezing cold.
"Yeah...opening one at a time i think would be the best idea." She was ready for it, whatever it might be, she just hoped it wouldn't be anything bad. "I'll clean it up if whatever it is makes a mess." While he could enjoy the hot chocolate she made ad work on decorating. They would get the apartment done today....at least she hoped so.

"Agreed." Derrick replied, giving Key a grin. He really loved when she came up with nicer ways to tell someone to off themselves. She did have a point though. It might not be the Negaverse. Could it be some sort of magic or something? Certainly their magic didn't come from the Negaverse, and he had heard something about some Galaxy pot or cauldron or something. Perhaps it was just the way it seeped out? But why only these two months then? "I'll open mine first then." It looked pretty flat. And it looked like something he had been wanting... but would have taken a gift card for considering it was so specific. He carefully unwrapped the paper, going slowly with it. He would have liked to rip it apart, but if it was something that was going to thrust glitter in his face, he wanted to avoid being pelted with as much of it as possible. But nothing that could explode was in there. Instead, it was just the very expensive set of calligraphy pens that he had wanted. He felt a bit of a blush on his cheeks, but at this point Key knew what he did as a hobby and for extra money, so it shouldn't have been anything to be embarrassed about. Still though... something or someone knew he had wanted it, and somehow it had appeared. "Well... I really hope this didn't magically teleport from a store or something." He certainly didn't want to avoid paying someone the money that they were owed for the set. He quickly opened the container to make sure it was just the calligraphy pens and not an empty or otherwise dangerous container. It was just the usual set of pens, with some instructions on use and how to clean them. He let out a sigh of relief once he knew that it wasn't going to do anything weird... at least until he tried using them. "This is weird... I guess you can open yours now though." He said, turning to look at her and nodding.

"Y-yeah...that looks expensive." She knew by now about the others love for writing, and that he made money from it, she had been considering a gift dealing with that. She wanted to encourage it, since he did enjoy it so much, the money he made didn't matter so much as the fact that he enjoyed it. "I don't know anything about calligraphy but even I can tell that it costs a lot." But how had it arrived here, all nicely wrapped, under their tree. Magic perhaps? it was really the only thing she could consider. But would it vanish as well? She didn't like the idea of that happening and was quick in making note of the item - so she could purchase it. If it vanished he would have it Christmas morning once again.
"Yeah...it seems safe. I mean yours was." Smiling at the gift and than at Derrick. He looked happy, she hoped it didn't vanish on him. She would have to track it down as soon as she could and purchase it - price be damned. She'd find it tomorrow!
"I can't imagine what this could be." Though it wasn't that heavy and it wasn't shaped unusually. It left no hint to what it could be. Once it was unwrapped and unboxed it was a wetsuit, made to only cover down to just above the knees. She'd been wanting to learn to surf this summer so had been looking at wet suits, so she didn't get rashes or anything. It was nice, black mostly with some strips of gray. Well, magic somehow knew just what she'd been looming at lately for herself, planning to get things ahead of the summer.

Derrick gave her a small smile. "It is. But if it does disappear, then just getting some money for it or a smaller set would be fine. I don't really need it." He didn't want her to spend all of the money on it. They didn't have to get each other very expensive presents. Just a small gift card would go a long way to get this set if it somehow vanished, but he wasn't expecting to actually get it on Christmas morning. He looked over at her present, unable to tell what it was at first. When he realized it was a wetsuit, he looked back at her with a grin. "Something you aren't telling me?" Of course he knew it was probably to go surfing with. Something he had never tried, but he would be willing to give it a go. Still, he hadn't had any idea that she had wanted it. "Well, I'll make sure to get it if these both disappear or somehow disintegrate or something." They were magic it seemed. The magic might be temporary. Or broken. Like his pen would explode when he tried to use it and her suit would just come apart. He seemed to have the same thoughts about these not staying for long as Key did. He shook his head though at both of the presents. "I still don't really trust them... but if you want I can get you another wetsuit too. Maybe one in different colors or something." He knew they came in different colors. But this might have been the pattern she wanted the most. He got up from where he was sitting on the floor, and sat on the ottoman that had been near them. "Of course our first holiday together had to start out like this. But if these things are real, well I guess it's okay. I just don't understand why the holidays have to be so weird. But it's not... terrible. At least we can weather out these weird experiences together from now on." He sent a look her way.

"I'm hoping it doesn't vanish. It's a lovely set." And he did like it, she knew it, she could read it in his eyes. "I wonder if it'll work if you go to use it. You should find out. I'm interested in it since they did just appear." The whole idea of gifts just appearing was interesting, and left her with questions. Some she knew would likely never get answered. But this she might get an answer to.
"Yeah, I guess. I was planning to try surfing come this summer. I figured if I saved up and bought things over the winter, and spring, I'd be set for the summer." He knew she liked to do sports, and not your basic things like soccer or tennis or anything like that. She enjoyed things that gave a bigger rush and were more fun - more active in her opinion. "Maybe it's something we could try together - since we both like the summer. It might be nice to try and learn together?" Though she knew she'd be covering herself in sunblock, as she did every summer, since she had a tendency to burn and peel and it was never very pleasant. She didn't take color, sadly, so she made sure to cover herself and protect her skin. She didn't let it keep her from going out in the summers warmth.
"If you want you can, if this one vanishes, and so long as it's not pink I'd be ok with you surprising me with any color. Just please...no pink. I look terrible in the color and it feels too girly." And that was one thing she had never liked the idea of - being girly. She was a tom boy and was never the sort for skirts or dresses or pink and frilly things...and yeah - nope. Not her. Finding a seat on the couch, not far from Derrick, she was able to make herself comfortable while staring at the gifts and the tree.
"Yeah, that's a good thing. We at least both understand the oddness behind the holidays and handle them together...we can speculate and discuss them. If you were someone else, not what you are, it would be impossible. I don't think I could do a relationship with someone not involved. I don't want to hold back what I think or want to say." And here she didn't have to hold back, not one bit, she could talk about magic and being a knight and about the Negaverse and these - this - strange thing. "I'm glad we can discuss them together and patrol together. It's safer for us both."

Derrick looked at the set. "All right then, I'll try it out once we're done out here." As much as he liked calligraphy, he liked to get everything else on his agenda done first. That way his mind could fully concentrate on his writing and hand movements. He sometimes wondered if he shouldn't just create a font in a computer program and use that instead. But people seemed to appreciate the hand-done cards. "Surfing? That sounds interesting." Though they weren't located on the West Coast or in Florida or anything. He could only imagine the water being colder, but that wouldn't stop him if it was hot enough. "I'd love to try it with you. And we can help each other if one of us gets into any trouble." It was always good to surf with a partner in case of an emergency. "No pink. Got it. That should be easy enough. I think blue would look good on you..." He muttered the last part, his mind half wondering about other colors that would look good on her, and the other half wondering just how it would look on her... Sitting on the ottoman, he considered her words. At this point... he felt the same. If he had to date anyone, they would have to know about all of this. Whether it was because they were told or were a knight or senshi themselves, to be unable to discuss this with one's significant other, having to hold such a large secret... he was sure that others did it. But he couldn't. Before he knew it he had moved himself over to the couch and hugged her a bit. "Yeah. I couldn't imagine discussing this with anyone else. And I like to go on patrol with you too. It makes it feel like we might actually be able to do something about the Negaverse. We're always so scattered. Even when we make other powered friends, it seems to take a large event such as fake hospital or some other Negaverse related event for everyone to get together and actually do something. Perhaps they did more before and now everyone seems so... content to not do anything. We haven't had anything big in a while other than some attacks, but nothing like trying to strike at the heart or getting rid of agents at the tops of companies or something." It made him feel a little on edge, which is when he realized that he had probably been hugging Key a bit too hard and he relaxed his arms. "Sorry Key. Just thinking out loud here. We should try to relax a bit more. Maybe focus on our non-powered lives, you know?" She helped him break away from his mundane life at least. Sure, parkour and calligraphy were interesting, but at some point they became repetitive. She helped to push him into trying new things.

"I have no doubt we'll both fall down a few times learning." Or more than a few, but it would be well worth it. It would be nice to try and do something together like surfing lesson, and falling over in the process, things like that she enjoyed. Spending time with someone doing such things were nice...it was what she wanted in the relationship, among other things. "Mmm, blue does look good on ,e. You haven't looked at my clothing yet have you? I have a lot of blues, grays, whites and other colors." With her hair and her eyes, plus her fair complexion, she knew what she looked good in. She might be all for comfortable clothing, things she could run about in all day, but that didn't mean she didn't want to look good. Key just wasn't about to wear fancy clothing or anything annoying to get on, or get out of. Too time consuming.
"I don't think if I was dating someone else, someone not involved, I could even tell them and explain things. That's like telling them that every night I go out I'm off to some war and might not come back...and they can't do anything about it." It was similar here but Derrick could do something, he could come with her, he understood. They could train together and help each other. It would be impossible with a normal civilian. "I don't think it would be fair. I'm sure some do it...I couldn't." Leaning into the other she let her head come to rest on his chest.
"I agree...though it would be hard to identify who at the heads of companies, and which companies, are with the Negaverse. But it does seem like nothing big has happened in a while. No steps taken forward towards ending this all. It's a state of truce almost...at least it seems like that. Little fights between individuals but nothing big...nothing gained by either side. Maybe it's good, in a way, because they haven't made any steps forward...but neither have we."
Lifting her head she shook it gently, reaching up to brush her own hair from her face before gently moving her fingers through his own dark hair. "it's ok. I dislike how it is stagnant as well. It's like the calm before the storm...because it has to come. But together we can, for now, focus on us and our lives while waiting for the storm. All we can do is live as civilians and prepare for the storm." Leaning up to brush her lips against his. "How does that sound? Like a way to live? A way we can live?" Because she wouldn't, and couldn't, let this war dictate her life. If she only lived for whatever was to come than she would let so much slip out of her grasp and not experience so many things...and she was all about that. She wanted to do everything and go from one adrenaline rush to the next. She also wanted this - this right here.

Derrick laughed quietly. "Well I have seen you in your uniform." He said, waggling his eyebrows a bit at the implication. He wondered what it would be like if they were powered up and decided to do... Well maybe they could try it later. Key was trying to be a bit more serious here, and he couldn't blame her. The need to talk about all of... this was overwhelming, and to be able to do that to one that you were close to, well, it would be bother terrifying and amazing at the same time, at least to him. "I agree. If I were going out with anyone else, I might just try to be a police officer or something so that I would at least have the excuse of going out all of the time. It wouldn't be the same though." Even if there were others risking their lives out there, they faced their own mental health challenges and appearing weak. And at least they could try to fight the corruption. There were laws and such, and evidence. With the Negaverse though? What exactly could they do, unless they became such an overwhelming force or decided to actually do something proactive and take cities that were held by the Negaverse down? He believe that there were more with the Order, but they never seemed to want to do anything until they were attacked. Being reactive instead of proactive. Suddenly he felt her lips against his and he couldn't help but kiss her back. He felt a smile on his face. "Yeah... all we can do is live in the moment, the here and now, and appreciate every day." He looked her in the eyes. "And spend as much time as possible together." His face took on a more cocky look, one he rarely ever had, before he quickly lifted her and headed to the bedroom. "Like right now, I think we can find a way to appreciate each other..."Sleet Tempest Snape Ending post from me thank you!
