Traveling hadn't been something that Kaimi had been able to do when he was younger. It was something that sounded interesting but he had far too much work to do if he wanted to achieve the first goal that he'd picked out for himself. Now that such a thing was taken care of he was able to think of other things, do other things, and the first one that came to mind was the idea of travel.

He'd wanted to do so with a friend of his, but it hadn't worked out. That had been during the time of the great rains and they had been forced to give up their attempts when the currents proved to be far too powerful for them to deal with. Which lead him to where he was now, finally able to travel.

Kaimi had hired someone to look after the little house that he'd bought for himself, packed up everything he needed, bought a few new packs, and he was on his way. The plan was to visit the lands of the Hapuna and the Kaha'iko, to dig for jewels for a week or so in each area, and then return home to trade them. Jewels from far away should do well when it came to trading since they would be something new and different. With luck he'd be able to fun plenty more work trips to come.

He was currently exploring the reefs, seeking out something interesting. Crystals, shells, or otherwise, anything that he might be able to use as trade material back home.

User Image - Blocked by "Display Image" Settings. Click to show.Hinakea was sent out today be her mother. Her task? Go and buy groceries from the market for her family. Hinakea swam along silently, only nodding to those who passed her by. She had a tasked and was focused on finishing it. She didn't want to come home late because she went off and did a thing on her own. As she swam, Hinakea kept note of those around her. They were all colorful like her. They all matched with the color of the corals. There was a balance, until, she saw a darker man. He did not, at all, match with the light color of the sand or the rainbow colors of the reefs. He was the color of mud, soil and water mixed together. And, he had not rainbowy color scheme he was just all...that one dark color.

No matter, Hinakea was at the market now, so she should get the groceries she came here to buy and leave. "Hello I would like 10 fish," she told the clerk and immediately gestured to which ones she wanted and stuck out the amount they costed without being asked. Then she nodded her goodbye. That was a fast exchange. Next up... more food. As Hinakea slowly worked down her list, she was on her last item now: shells. Ah, they must be in the beautifully decorated creamy colored building over there. It sure reminded her of shells. So... her mother wanted small shells? Okay. As Hinakea swam in, she noticed the man she had spotted earlier. Looks like he was in the region for shells too. As she was picking out the prettiest shell, her arms started growing tired from the heavy weight of all of the things she had bought today. She started to sag under its weight. How would she get home today?

The area he was searching was so much brighter then Kaimi was used to. He wondered how it must be to live in a place that was this bright all the time... but he supposed that since they were born into such a bright world that they must be used to it. At least it would make finding things a lot easier since the sun coming down from below lighted up the sand making spotting shells a cinch. A huge bonus given that he couldn't use his power to track shells. He doubted that it would work on coral either since it was a formally living creature instead of a crystal.

Giving a humming sound he swam along at a slow pace, brushing of shells, inspecting them closely, before tucking them away into one of his back packs. Perfect shells went into one little pouch, broken ones in another, as he wanted to keep everything sorted just so. So long as everything was sorted out it meant that he would be able to more easily find what he needed, when he needed it.

He was in the process of sorting shells when he realized that there was someone else, someone much younger, brighter, and obviously from the area, who was also collecting shells. Instantly he found himself debating if he should move on, not wanting to get in the way of a local seeking shells. He didn't want to risk giving the Menehune a bad name after all. Giving the girl a momentary glance he said, "Ahh, good afternoon."

She felt as if there was no need. He was doing his own thing, and she was doing hers. Once, Hina had picked out all the shells she felt her mother would need, she gathered all her bags with a bigg "oof" sound. They sure were heavy. Compared to her tiny body, the bags looked like they were eating her up! 'Well,' thought, 'this must be a funny scene for the foreigner.'

She glanced at him again. He was squinting at the sea floor looking at the shells and corals. He looked a little uncomfortable with the glare of the sea floor. The sand was quite reflective. If this man was rather darker in color, he could be like the sea dwellers in the darker, deeper areas of the sea. He probably was uncomfortable with all the light. "Hey, do you want me to gather up some shells for you quickly?" Hina asked. She didn't know why she did it. After all, earlier she had avoided conversation with him. Well, this was just a quick deed she could do. That's probably why she asked. It would help him with only a little of her time taken up.

Kaimi found himself picking up a singular shell, inspecting it closely, and going over in his head what he might be able to do with such an item. He knew that it wouldn't be too difficult to just gather shells to trade but he could get more out of the trades when he did something with them. Decorations, accessories, he had to consider what the shells could be used for. The same went for coral. What did he want to make them into, how much should he gather, should he see about trading for things already made by local craftsman? There was so much to think about.

He was pulled from his thoughts as he heard the girl with the bright hair asking him if he needed her to gather shells for him 'quickly' which was something that had him perking up a bit, "Would you? I find myself still adjusting to the differences in our homelands." He saw no reason not to admit to the fault since it would explain part of why he was taking so long to get things gathered.

"I couldn't ask you to do it for free though..." He found himself wondering what he should offer her in return. Perhaps one of the crystal necklaces that he'd made?

She could use some help with her bags, but was he a trustworthy person? Hina was thinking hard on this. Perhaps she should use more time for this. He was a foreigner, and she didn't want to get herself into something dangerous. "I'll let you know if I need help," Hinakea said. She'd probably decided if she wanted his help after she helped him.

Quickly, Hina picked out the coolest shells she could find. Well, there certainly were a bunch here. Then again, of course! She always came here to gather shells because she knew this was such a good spot. The foreigner certainly had lucked out. As Hinakea worked, she kept a close eye on him and her belongings, not really expecting anything just in case. Soon enough she was done! "Done," she called out to him. Then she attempted to pick up her bags with a grunt.

Kaimi gave a little nod of his head as the small Hapuna girl told him that she'd 'let him know' when it came to whether or not she needed anything of him. She then moved off to collected shells leaving Kaimi to do the same. He glanced her way from time to time to get a feel for what she was doing but otherwise his focus was on gathering shells himself. He didn't want to appear as though he were slacking off or anything.

He wasn't the sort that went about letting others do the work for him and as such he did his best to try to find some shells of his own. He found a few really nice ones, the one with a sort of spiky design to it had to be his favorite of the one he'd picked up thus far. He could use a few more of this particular sort he found himself thinking. A moment later there were more that were delivered to him, not only the spiky ones but other sorts as well. All thanks to the brightly colored Hapuna girl, something that brought a bright smile to his face, "Wow! These are all amazing!"

He settled down on the sandy ground so that he could go through the various shells, smiling over each of them, "You really have an eye for this sort of thing, don't you? I am most impressed." Were all of the Hapuna this good at gathering shells? Maybe because they lived here and knew where to look for them? Either way he was very impressed by her hard work. After packing up all the shells she'd gathered he turned to glance toward the girl, watching her struggle with her packs.

After a moment he asked, "Do you need aid?" The bags looked as though they might weigh as much as she did given the manner in which she was grunting over them. As a gentleman he'd offer her a hand if she wanted it.

Hina had been sent to gather things for her mother many times before, so she was pretty knowledgeable of the area. Well, this foreigner sure had hit a good spot for shells, perhaps he wasn't so bad at it. He just wasn't as well adjusted. Well, who knows. Hina was focused on getting home.

Hina was very startled when the stranger asked her if she wanted help with her bags. They were heavy, and she did look small, and helpless under the giant heap, but he would have to go way out of his way to help her carry those home. She was hesitant too since he was...a stranger. He was nice, and he didn't seem dangerous in the time she had spent helping him. "Uh...sure," Hinakea decided. He could help her for a part of her trip.
