The weekend was a time for relaxation for Kalani, or at least it was a time that she wasn’t in school, seeing as every other day was a day of relaxation, practically. Although many Crystal Academy students chose to board at the school, Kalani chose instead to commute by public transportation, citing that her mom needed help at home, and with her business. In truth, it was mostly because Kalani was lazy- she already had everything she needed, right here in her room, so why go through all the trouble of moving it all to a dorm room, only to have to move it back during the holidays?

Halloween was coming up soon, and with it, both Kalani’s birthday. It was also the one-year anniversary of that fateful day that she had been ‘scouted’ to become a magical girl, by what had turned out to be a white, fluffy, hat-wearing kitten and not some soul-stealing Inkyuubeytor. Kalani, if she had to be honest, still had her misgivings about Runelucia, as the kitten had called herself, seeing as she seemed to be attempting to gather together some sort of magical idol group rather than a group of powered soldiers.

Still, the little cat had proven herself to be somewhat useful, as Kalani had discovered the value in keeping a talking cat, in particular, one possessing human-level intelligence, and thus, she had offered for Rune to come live with her, here in her house. Although she had swun the idea as some sort of combination of ‘community service’ (for stealing her phone and iPod awhile back), and a way of ‘helping her (that is to say, Morishita) grow as a senshi, the real reasons were much more dubious in nature. After all, having Rune around meant Kalani had someone to do her homework for her, which came in handy for having more time to do more less productive things.

(Now, if she could just warm Rune up to the idea of creating some sort of communication device that they could use for the kitten to help her during tests at school, that would be great.)

In the meantime, though, homework was a distant thought for another day- weekends weren’t for doing homework, and Rune could do it for her later. Besides, the weather was starting to look like it was getting stormy, and Kalani wasn’t about to waste it on boring stuff for school. There was also the matter of the news of an escaped convict- while Kalani had dismissed it as some sort of social media stunt, it did make for a good lie to tell her feline tutor about how she was simply too worried about the news to focus on her schoolwork. Instead, she had reasoned, it was a far better idea to watch a movie, to take her mind off of current events and, as she had put it, relax a little… or a lot.

… Or that was the plan, anyway. Not even halfway into the movie, the storm started picking up, and soon enough, the power started to flicker, before it finally went out for good. No doubt anticipating Rune’s next words, Kalani decided she had other plans in mind than anything the kitten would suggest, and immediately declared them out loud.

“... I’m taking a nap.”

(Don't wake me, was unspoken, but heavily implied.)

Not one to be easily deterred from her goals of getting out of doing any actual work, Kalani made a show of pulling her blanket further over her head, while making a shooing motion with her free arm, as if in an attempt at getting Rune to leave her alone. If there was any major downside to having this fluffy feline tutor around, it was Rune's insistence on 'doing the right thing', which went against Kalani's modus operandi of 'do nothing at all'.

"What are you even going on about? There's nothing going on," Kalani told Rune dismissively, "Don't believe everything you hear on the news."

“Are you sure you should be offering your phone to me like that?” Rune blinked, “As much as I'd love to use it... to do any of that, isn't it advisable to conserve whatever power your phone has left while the power is still out?”

Rune immediately believed that her reasoning, in the end, is the most... responsible, but deep down, Rune longed to use Kalani's phone to do any of the things Kalani described. Kalani safeguarded her device from Rune for an uncomfortable amount of time after Rune had accidentally gone over Kalani's allotted data limit again.

"Hmm... I still have trouble digesting that, but if you absolutely have enough powerbanks to keep your phone alive when it truly matters... then I don't see why not," Rune reasoned out loud, which was probably a fairly regular occurrence. Since she has poor self-awareness at times, she hasn't quite realized that Kalani found this roundabout manner of making up her mind a tad bit annoying.

Regardless, it was evident and a bit embarrassing that Rune long-term fascination with idol groups has her caving into Kalani's generous offer. What better way to pass the time catching up with her idol mobile games? And it IS true that since both of them are at home, it seemed unlikely that the rogue criminal would break into their home and cause trouble...

"Oh, and Kalani... don't you think it'd be wise if we stayed together? While the convict is out on the loose? Possibly causing distress.... also what am I doing... getting distracted by your phone.. oh dear, this is agonizing... what should I do?" Rune attempted to reign in the Kalani that was about to, well, likely wander away and towards another part of the house, but Rune is also noticeably conflicted over her duty as a mauvian and how she dearly wanted... to use Kalani's phone to either record, watch videos, or play relevant games.

Inner conflict vividly painted her expression and she glanced at Kalani for a studious solution to her... self-imposed dilemma.

Unfortunately for Kalani, Runelucia has occasionally fantasized about singing peril into submission, but that is beside the point.

"... good point," Rune duly nodded but continued to pout slightly. Her concern continued to cloud her mind.

She pawed chin a bit before a rather inane suggestion sprung into her mind, which is essentially taking them into a feedback loop that would likely annoy Kalani more than she already yet Rune chose to speak up anyway. Rune coughed a bit and then asked, "So... if you do want to nap, why not just nap in here and perhaps I could use earphones... with just one ear?"

Rune hoped that Kalani would relent, since staying together while the convict remains out at large continued to leave her feeling worried and doubting their continued safety should they be separated from one another... even if they are merely just rooms away.

"I assure you that it'd be best if you could keep watch with me... but I suppose that having you be as rested as possible isn't that bad of a draw... you'll be ready should anything troubling arises," Rune reasoned. "And I'll happily take on your offer meanwhile. I look forward to singing and dancing practice!"

Rune grinned to herself and giggled as Kalani languidly waved (or was that a shoo?) her away at the corner of her eye. The last she saw of Kalani was of her rolling into bed and descending into her slumber.

And with that, Rune was the only one awake. At least, that's her understanding, anyways. She then scanned the room once more before taking the phone Kalani had permitted her to use closer to the door. At last... Rune could... do as she pleases with that phone. At first, she considered playing her rhythm games, but on the other hand... using it to blare music and practicing to it was nothing short of a rare moment... even while there's a convict out loose. The doors and window shutters should be completely shut so they [i[should be safe in the end, right? Right?
