Quote: While out and about in Destiny City, you notice a particularly strange street performer who isn't getting much attention on the corner he's stationed himself at. He's a rather peculiar looking clown, complete with cliche red nose and squeaky shoes. No matter how many balloon animals he makes or tricks he tries to play, no one seems to pay him any attention. You happen to make eye contact with him and unfortunately, it seems to excite the fellow to have finally won over someone's attention. You manage to cleverly excuse yourself from the situation but nearly everywhere you go after that point, the strange clown is following you. The more you try to ignore him or brush him aside, the angrier he seems to get - and it's a little creepy, just how menacing he looks with that bright red smile gets turned upside down. Even as you manage to make your way to you or your friend's home, you can't help but notice the familiar, disturbing honks of a bicycle horn or the squeaks of oversized shoes following you... even up onto the front porch steps. While Elle was not exactly excited for the growing chill and the impending approach of winter, she was very much ready for fall itself and everything that came with it. Colorful leaves and crisp air, decorations, Halloween and Thanksgiving. Pumpkin spice and warm apple cider everywhere. And best of all, the shift into fall fashion. She was absolutely an autumn. With her hair and her eyes she looked wonderful in warmth and earth tones, and she wore them well. Curly hair had been pinned up in a messy bun with a few soft strands falling around freckled cheeks. She had on a pair of black leggings tucked into thick socks that disappeared into stylish calf boots. A tunic covered her from shoulders to mid thigh, and over that she had a vest with a cashmere scarf draped around her shoulders. Her hands, one holding Nathan's loosely as they meandered along the row of shops, was covered with fingerless kit gloves. It was, in all honesty, a little too early to be thinking about Christmas shopping, but she'd still talked Nate into coming with her to the outlet shops on the edge of the city. There were big sales going on today, and she was still working on replenishing her wardrobe. "We can hit the Nike store if you want, or Nautica?" She looked up at him from reading the map. Where they stood appeared to be the central hub of the outlets. There was a carousel in the very center, and food kiosks and trucks with tables near that. To the other side there were buskers playing music and dancing.

Nathan's favorite time of year was Halloween. While his dad went all out for Christmas at the library, it was Halloween that inspired Nate the most. He even went over to help his dad decorate, putting up spider webs and talking over what costume the librarian should wear this year.
They had managed to get quite a lot closer, from even a few years ago. Something like that, spending time with him willingly and not for any important reason or dire situation, was not something he would have imagined doing back then. He supposed it had something to do with maturing and growing up, but really, he didn't put that much thought into it. It was just more fun this way, and worked out for both of them.
He glanced at Elle, noticing that she looked cold and wondering if he should have worn a coat, so he could chivalrously offer it to her. Instead, he had a loose fitting t-shirt on that screamed 'oblivious to weather changes'.
"I'm here for whatever you want to do. I'm sure I'll find stuff for me on the way, but I don't really think I need new clothes." Of course, he would say that any time he was asked, even if he was down to one pair of jeans with unfashionable holes in them. Everything looked a little spooky and dark, which he loved. Being out was not a drag for him, because he at least got to see what all these stores and street people were doing for the season.
"maybe I can get some gift ideas for Christmas, too."

Dressed for the cold, but not currently cold. However if they lingered outside for any extended period of time no doubt Elle would start getting chilly. But for now she was fine, content in the early autumn air, arm and arm with her fiance. She gave him a look as he insisted he didn't need new clothes, rolling her eyes at him. "You've only got one pair of jeans left, and they're a wash or two away from falling apart altogether. We really should find you a few new pairs before that happens." Aside from the jeans he had slacks and work pants and neither of those were really great for everyday wear. And he certainly wasn't going to be pulling his shorts out again this late in the year, even if he didn't feel the cold like she did. "I'm sure we can find some good ideas for Christmas presents as well, though." It was a few months away still, but it wasn't a bad idea to get a jump on that, especially considering how busy they were with wedding planning and their powered lives. It was just so easy to loose track of time. She blinked as she realized she was being watched, locking eyes with one of the performers trying to earn some money in the circle they were standing in. A clown, over sized shoes and squeaking nose. He didn't seem to have managed to draw much of a crowd for himself, so that might have been why he was staring at her so intensely, but Elle found it creepy. Hand tightening around Nathan's Elle stepped back and turned, gaze lingering on the clown for a long moment before tearing away and out towards the lines of shops around them. "Let's go. There's a Rue 21 over here i'd like to check out." Trying to ignore the hairs standing up at the back of her neck, she led the way towards the aforementioned store.

Nate looked skeptical at her assessment of his wardrobe, but it was probably more accurate than he really wanted to admit. He wore his clothes to death, though rips and tears only added to his aesthetic. He was not the grunge kid he used to be, but he still kept some of his cool-kid attitude in how he dressed these days. He certainly was not ready for tweed suits and sweater vests, like his father.
But then, he was also not a librarian. So that worked out.
"Alright, alright," he said blandly, following her lead, though he barely noted the names of the stores they were visiting. He did notice the creepy street performer, who seemed less interested in performing and more interested in watching them. Watching Elle?
Nate fixed him a dangerous warning glare.
"That guy giving you a weird look? Besides the fact that he's dressed like a lunatic: he was staring at you, right?" He knew he could be a jealous sort, especially when it came to protecting Elle after all she'd been through. He did not take well to even the vaguest threat.
Clowns were not out of the realm of suspicion.

She blinked at his question and glanced back one more time at the clown before pursing her lips and shaking her head. "Yeah, maybe." It was what had her drawing him towards the store she'd mentioned. Once there were walls between them and the street performer she'd feel better, less on edge. It was silly, she knew it was, to let herself get so easily creeped out over nothing, but she'd been through a hell of a lot in the last few years. "It didn't look like he was making any money, no one was paying any attention to him. Maybe he was just trying to catch someone's eye, entice them into being generous." She shrugged as she said it, sighing as she gave Nathan's had a squeeze before letting it go so she could look through a circular rack of dresses on sale. "I don't like clowns very much." Inside the store she had some luck digging through the discount racks, and there was a men's section that had jeans, so she'd dragged Nathan over there to look through them before loading his arms up with a few pairs and pointing him towards the fitting rooms to try them on. "Just make sure they fit. It'll be one less thing we have to worry about later." By the time she'd gotten him inside and was waiting near the shoes for him to reemerge she'd pretty much forgotten the creepy clown. Until she saw him standing at the window staring inside. At her.

"I don't like jerks leering at my fiance much," Nate said with a growl, thinking that clown had no business trying to entice Elle to do anything. He let the subject drop, though, staying close to her once they got into the store and doing his best to forget it. Some street performer was a passing concern, after all. He did not need to dwell on it. Even if he did have a strong urge to punch him. Nate was dismayed by just how many pairs of jeans Elle managed to scrounge up, but he dutifully went to try them on. Of course, he made things difficult by not coming out between trials to show her the fit, but by now he was sure he could handle that by himself. Anyway, it was faster if he just pulled them on and right back off, without much of a pause to really check. He stepped out of the dressing room with a few pairs on his arm, looking at her and following her gaze toward the window quickly. He noticed the look on her face and that was more than enough to tell him something was wrong. "Oh ******** no," he growled, tossing the clothes to one of the waiting chairs and running for the door. Clown had crossed a line, and was about to learn the hard way just what happened when someone messed with his fiance. Except when he got there, the clown was gone.

She hadn't realized he had come out of the dressing room until she heard his voice growl out beside her, and then she was watching him toss the jeans he'd been trying on aside to rush for the door of the shop and the clown staring at her through the big front window. "Nathan!" When she grabbed for his arm her fingertips brushed the sleeve of his shirt but he was too quick for her to catch. "Nathan, wait!" The last thing she wanted to do that day was have to sit in a police station because her fiance had taken an overly pushy clown as a threat and beat the snot out of him. The clown might deserve it, but it'd still be grounds to file an assault charge. But, he was gone as Elle caught up to Nathan at the door. "What...did he run off?" She didn't see any sign of him, and the sidewalks weren't that crowded. Well, if he was gone that was all that mattered. Hopefully he got the message and that was the last they'd see of him. Still frowning, Ellie hooked her arm around Nathan's a pulled at him gently. "Come on, let's go back inside and get those pants."

Nathan was furious that he had been out run by a clown, somehow. The b*****d was fast, for having over sized feet. They probably squeaked, too, which only added insult to injury for the prideful senshi of danger. Of course, if he had been able to power up then it would have been a different damn story.
He felt Elle at his side, frowning in grumpy defeat and looking at her with a clear expression of not wanting to give up. What he wanted to do was figure out what way the peeping clown went and catch up to him with plastic-y wings to aid him.
Then the beat down would be real.
"I dunno, he's gone. Good for him, or i would have made him eat that stupid red nose of his." He growled, though his temper was cooled as Elle looped her arm around his. He sighed and looked at her sidelong, nodding slowly. "Right. Yeah. Pants."
At least he'd managed to put his own back on before sprinting out here in the cold. He relented and followed her back inside, but added as they walked,
"Maybe we go home after this, though."

Her hand resting on Nathan's back, the petite redhead guided her fiance back into the store to retrieve the pants he'd tossed aside in his haste to protect her. The whole thing was odd, not just that she seemed to have attracted some weirdo clown's attention, but that he'd somehow managed to disappear before Nathan had made it to the door. He'll, it didn't look like the clown had even moved before her attention had been snatched up by Nathan rushing past her. So how was he'd managed to out run him? It just didn't make any since. Chewing at her lower lip Elle nodded. There was more shopping she'd wanted to do, but she didn't like the clown's attention. "Yeah, that's fine."
