Quote: A new temporary co-op shop called the Boo-tique has opened up for the holiday season. Folks from all around the city are selling neat odds and ends to celebrate the spooktacular parties and events to come at the end of the month. While you’re trying on one of the many costumes for sale, you leave the dressing room and find yourself engulfed in a world associated with whatever costume you put on. You can't go far--only a few feet in any direction, as if you hit an invisible wall. There is no person there, no animals, but a very vivid sight. After a few moments, you blink once and it's all gone--you've returned to the mothball-smelling, dusty dressing room you’d originally entered. The costume you’d put on has no price tag and if you approach a staff member to purchase or question it, they take it away and apologize -- it shouldn’t have been out on the floor to begin with. What… exactly happened? Before she had been moved away, Maggie had once been a regular student at Meadowview. A lot of the friends that she had back then were still in DC now. Among them, Cynthia. They had been pals at Meadowview, both of them always up for adventure, and had kept in touch through social media while Maggie was away. Now that she was back, the girls had reunited for coffee dates and life updates. Even though Maggie was now at HITS (a huge reason her parents even let her come back to DC), they had managed to grow together in friendship, not apart. With that in mind, the girls made plans for lunch, and to maybe do some Halloween costume shopping. Lunch was still digesting as the pair strolled down the sidewalk, window shopping. "Really, if I'm honest, Barnaby wasn't that great. When we first moved to Paris, it felt glamorous, but even though I didn't say as much, the truth is we moved to Canada pretty quickly." Maggie was in the middle of confessing that some of her Instagram stories projecting an idyllic life were not as truthful as they may seem. Cynthia was a real friend; she could be open with her. "I just didn't know what to say. Oh, hey, everyone -- remember how I said I was moving on to bigger and better things? Turns out I'm just relocating to the Canadian suburbs, rural suburbs at that. If I was lucky I would have met and fallen in love with some Canadian cowboy." She stopped walking and turned to face Cynthia a bit abruptly. "Do they even have cowboys in Canada? Ugh, even my fantasies about how to shine up that town are failures." The teen let out a long sigh. "I can't say how happy I am to be back," she said, giving Cynthia a friendly nudge. "And back with my peoples." Like you, was the implication.

Cynthia had been ecstatic when her old friend had moved back, though a little apprehensive to meet in-person at first, in case they both had changed too much over the years. However, it didn't seem to be a problem and they had once again gotten well acquainted. Though she should have known not to be worried since they kept in touch regularly through various social media platforms. The wonders of technology! It was interesting listening to Maggie and her telling Cynthia what it was really like compared to the social media posts. Cynthia was a bit jealous, but only of being able to travel so much. She had been stuck in DC since she had been born, even if she had gone back to her family in France a few times over the years. But they weren't very long visits, so to hear about them from another person, it was very refreshing and she could find some familiarity in it. Cynthia giggled as Maggie rambled on it a bit and then asked about the cowboy. "Well if they have beef farms up there, I'm sure that they do have Candian cowboys. I'm just not sure if they would be like the ones in the South." She did wonder though... something to look up after they were done shopping around. She smiled brightly at Maggie. "It's so good to have you back too. I can't say that it's been all sunshine and rainbows here." She didn't mention the Negaverse attacks, something Cynthia was still trying to get over. Freaking clowns. "So to have a good friend back, it makes this place seem brighter than it was before. And besides, I finally have someone to talk girl stuff with." She could always talk with her boyfriend, but that didn't mean he would be able to get everything. Something caught her eye as they were walking and Cynthia looked and saw... something called, "The Boo-tique? Really?" She muttered to herself and then looked at her friend. "Hey Maggie, you want to check out that pun-named boutique over there?" Cynthia asked, pointing her finger in the store's direction.

"A love a pun almost as much as I love a costume," Maggie said, linking arms with Cynthia and navigating the pair through the doorway. It was an adorable place, laden with the same costumes the last four places the teen had investigated. Still! She hadn't done so with Cynthia yet so it was all new and exciting. Feeling lighter since her admittance, Maggie practically crooned as she began enthusiastically leafing through costumes. There was a sexy witch, sexy cop, sexy cat, sexy Iron Man. Maggie pulled out the latter and showed it to Cynthia with a laugh. "So, girl stuff... are you seeing anyone?" Come on, they were mature ladies now, basically. Maggie hoped her friend might have something juicy to share.

Cynthia let herself be led into the store, and sighed when it seemed that this place had the same costumes as everywhere else. She didn't mind the sexy costumes, but when every store had them, it seemed to be... low effort? She wasn't sure what she could call it, but she did wish that there were more interesting ones. She couldn't help but laugh at the sexy Iron Man that Maggie showed to her. "Really, they have a sexy costume for everything!" Cynthia said, in-between giggles. She herself started rifling through a few of them, trying to find something less... distracting? She blushed when Maggie asked the question but nodded. "Yes... and he's a college student. But before you go squealing about dating some college hottie, he's only a year older than me and we've been going out for less than a year." At least since last year, though it hadn't been a full year yet. "He's nice, probably a bit more awkward than you would think, but I'm sure he'd be willing to meet you. I promise I wasn't hiding him from you, it's just we've been so busy in the past year that sometimes I just forget things that seem normal to me but aren't normal to others." She had felt bad about not telling Maggie about Jason, but honestly the two didn't meet up too often, even if they wanted to. "What about you? Any guys catch your eye?" Cynthia asked while noticing what looked to be fantasy-style costumes in the corner.

A squeal had already started to leap from her lips at the mention of a college boyfriend, but Maggie pressed a hand holding a sexy Mario to her mouth to suppress it. "How did you keep such a secret!" she said, stashing it back on the rack and following Cynthia around to the next few aisles. "Everyone catches my eye, most of the time. But back to you, girl -- what is his name? How did you meet? Do you have a picture? OH OH -- does he have any cool single friends?" Her intonation suggested the last question was the most important. Momentarily, she forgot all about shopping.

Cynthia couldn't help but smile a little, trying to hide her embarrassment. "I don't think he's ever been over when we've video-chat and I haven't sent any pictures of him... because we don't have any." She had started out strong, but then realized in the end that she didn't have any pictures as proof! What was wrong with her! How could they possibly NOT take any pictures together?! She supposed they just hadn't thought about it. It was a little silly, but they were together so often in powered form that they hadn't even considered it in civilian. She shrugged at the next question though. "He might, though I haven't really seen any of them yet. We've been too busy... together." More hints. They hadn't even really gotten serious yet and already it sounded like they practically lived together. She walked over to the costumes that had caught her eye. A couple of fantasy ones it seemed. She pulled out what seemed to be a cute royal-themed costume and looked at Maggie. "You want to try these on? They look cute. Although not as 'sexy' as the ones you've shown me so far." Cynthia commented, giggling a bit. Akina Tokuwa my fault for not replying sooner! We can get it done today though!

Maggie followed Cynthia over to the rack of fantasy costumes, rubbing the fabric of a silvery-white one between her fingers. "Are you trying to distract me with talk of costumes?" she said in mock horror. "First order of business sounds like a photo -- is he not on social media? How on earth could you find such a creature in the modern age? ...and what was his name again?" Not that Maggie intended to Google the hell out of him. Definitely not. Glancing at the costumes, Maggie tilted her head and said, "Weird, they're on the same hanger. Must be a set together. I think I can fit this white one." She unclipped it from the double hanger and draped it over her arm, leading the two girls back to the curtained dressing room. It didn't take long to get into it. The costume felt super authentic really, kind of like what she was going to wear to the Hillworth Estate. "This quality is great," she said through the curtain to Cynthia. "Shout when you're ready!" Maggie gave a twirl in the mirror, smiling at how the skirts swooshed.

"His name is Jason. And I would never try to distract you with costumes!" Cynthia pretended to be hurt, but knew that sooner or later she would have to talk about her boyfriend. There would be no keeping it from Maggie! "He is on social media but not facebook because he and his brother don't like it. But other platforms you can find him." She said, taking the other costume and followed Maggie into the dressing room. She hurried into her costume and it felt good enough. Not too itchy or cheap feeling at least. "Well I think they look great! I'm ready to come out now!" Cynthia said, moving her hand toward the dressing room door. She opened it and waited for Maggie but she felt as though something was... off. She didn't know what though.

Jason, hm... she'd need to get that last name before this was all over. But first, costumes. "On three? 1... 2... 3!" Maggie whipped back the curtain and jumped out, spinning to face the direction where the other girl would come. Her bare feet were wet from the damp grass, and the breeze kicked up her hair. She could smell the river near by and held up a hand to squint against the twin suns. Wait, what? Maggie turned in a slow rotation and saw before her a lush forest in full Spring bloom. To her back, the changing rooms were gone and a sprawling hill led to a churning river. There was a castle, too. She lifted a hand and slapped herself, but it didn't go away. Worse still, there was no creature or person in sight. Wait, where was Cynthia? "Cynthia!" Maggie shouted. "CYNTHIA, are you here?"

Cynthia had been unable to respond to Maggie's cries for a moment, shocked by the fact that she seemed to be, well, not at all in Destiny City anymore, especially in the changing rooms. Soon enough though she heard the cries from a distance, and shook her head, trying to get herself together. All of this just... was it virtual reality? She hustled it to where she heard the cries coming from and saw Maggie looking a bit distraught and ran up to her. Cynthia finally got close enough to yell back, "I'm here Maggie!" She said as she caught up with her friend, panting a bit when she made it. These costumes were not made for running! "I don't know where we are or what this is." Cynthia said, looking around a bit more. Suddenly though, she thought she heard a roar in the distance. "Maggie... you didn't hear that did you?"

The roar set the ground rumbling, but there was nothing in the distance. The costume, too, seemed fancier. When Maggie touched her hair, it was bound in tight braids set off by pearls. "Is there such a thing as a shared hallucination?" she said, voice thin. "We should find cover!" Taking off at a run, Maggie managed to go a few feet before slamming into an invisible wall. She ricocheted backward, holding her head in her hands. "Maybe... not... that way..." the girl said with a moan. If something was coming, they'd need to get to safety and then figure out what was happening -- but how?

Cynthia tried to follow Maggie but immediately ran into the same problem. That of the invisible wall that she didn't know was there. She started to panic a bit more, realizing that she could barely move and she moved her hands all over the "wall". Nothing. There were no holes in it or anything. She moved over to Maggie. "You okay Maggie?" She said, trying to find a way out still. There didn't seem to be any. But why where they trapped in such a small space? It looked like they had been transported somewhere, but it was as though they were stuck in a video game, where they could only move in a designated area. Cynthia thought for a moment. The only thing that had changed when they had gone out of the changing rooms was the outfits... "Maybe the outfits are connected to this?" It was the only thing that had changed after all, but why would they be doing this?

The two of them were there, terrified, for what felt like forever. And then, just as soon as the vision came, it ended -- leaving the two of them sweaty and scared in the store, looking like total psychopaths. Maggie reached out and gripped Cynthia's hand. "Maybe... maybe let's... maybe let's not buy a costume today," she said abruptly, trying to play it cool as she dipped behind the curtain and reemerged faster than seemed humanly possible. The girl wanted whatever that was as far away from her as possible. "Coffee instead? There's a cafe nearby I saw on Instagram..." Her rambling was in full effect as she practically dragged Cynthia from the store, trying emphatically to pretend nothing had happened and go on with having a Nice Day with her Nice Friend. SSBrosB Sorry I went MIA! This is just an end post to cap it off.

The vision suddenly disappeared, and it took a moment for Cynthia to realize that they were finally in the store, before blushing deeply at what had happened. "That... yeah. Let's just get out of here." She had wanted to say it was real, after all, both of them saw it. Could they really just hallucinate the same thing? It didn't matter, she followed Maggie's lead in changing as soon as humanely possible and when she finally got out of the changing room was dragged out by Maggie, talking about getting coffee instead. Cynthia could only wordlessly nod her head yes. "Yeah... much, that's a much better idea." She said, pretty sure that was the scariest thing that had happened to her so far, including all of the time she had powered up. Akina Tokuwa Np! Thank you for the rp!
