Quote:
While out and about, you manage to obtain a cute cooking pot designed to look like a witch's cauldron. It's a little eccentric but wanting to get in the spirit of things, you or a loved one obtain it and food is prepared in it, be it for a personal or social gathering.

Only... anything made in this pot tastes startling of candy corn. Regardless of whether you finish your homemade treat, you find that no matter what you eat or drink, everything for the next twenty-four hours tastes exactly like candy corn. The strange thing is, this only seems to happen once. After you've given it a good scrub, it doesn't seem to have the same effect ever again.

Mi-Hi had come across the cooking pot by chance, tucked away out of sight amongst the bric-a-brac of a market stall and had bought it on impulse - in part it was cute and in part because there was a Halloween party coming up and she figured that serving drinks out of the 'cauldron' would definitely look authentic—

And the price was definitely not too hard on her wallet - so a good deal all around - at least so she had thought.

She had opted for a lime and pineapple non-alcoholic punch, having found what appeared to be a nice little recipe for one via trawling through google and then had accessorised with little ghostie sweeties and had dressed up in a with costume in order to fit the part dress wise as well.

There hadn't been many people when Mi-Hi had arrived, although she knew that she was slightly early as she buried herself with setting up the 'cauldron' - and the punch. The party in question was for two classes one of the professors on campus taught, for all his students to gather and meet up for a party. That was what brought Boon-nam into the large room which was being used for the Halloween party. It was something he normally would have skipped, Halloween wasn't something he celebrated, but December had been telling him to get out more. His boyfriend also seemed very excited for this holiday, so he might as well try and get into the spirit as best he could.

The problem was how odd he felt in crowds. He'd been working on his English but it still wasn't that great, it wasn't an easy language to learn, but he was better than he'd been when he'd first come here to Destiny City.

Having brought food as well, a recipe he'd found online, he went to set it down before moving to get something to drink. There were the usual drinks, not that he knew they were commonly had at parties, but he skipped over them in favor of looking over what was in a cauldron of sorts. "Drink?" He questioned, wanting to make sure.

I think you wrote the same thing twice above this? Not sure.

Mi-Hi looked up at the question, a bright smile that was perhaps not particularly 'witchy' on her lips.

"Yes, would you like some?"

But whilst she herself may not have been coming across as 'witchy' the drink that she'd come up with at least looked the part, especially with the dry ice that had been mixed at the bottom of the cauldron-shaped pot to give the punch a smoking effect.

She gestured at at row of goblet-shaped cups that some of the others attending the party had bought as their contribution, a veritable hodgepodge running from the overly tacky to the - at least to her - somewhat creepy.

Grabbing one of the cups, something not so cheap looking and also something not so creepy, and ark, looking Boon-nam nodded his head once. "Yes, please. Would like some." Well, at least that was simple enough he couldn't butcher it, he really was trying but it wasn't so easy. He was sure that learning another Asian language would be easier than English.

"Good party?" He asked, looking around. Half the people here he didn't know, since they were part of the professors other class and not his own. Deciding that if the conversation would continue, which it might, it was proper to introduce himself. So he held out his hand, rather than pressing his hands together as he would back home

Lol, I've never tried from my phone to tag things.

Mi-Hi gave the cauldron a stir before carefully ladling some of the contents into the goblet that the male had selected. She waited until she'd finished before nodding at the other's question "Yes" before amending it to "I mean I'm sure it will be" because the party was only really in its opening stages.

"Lots of people have put a lot of work in" temporarily setting down the ladle, Mi-Hi gestured towards the Halloween decorations and the fake cobwebs complete with equally fake spiders that someone had set up, the gesture also encompassing the jack-o-lanterns nestled here and there and other Halloween-esque decorations.

Someone down the other end seemed to be fiddling with a music player, but after a few moments the opening to 'I put a spell on you' started playing as Mi-Hi reached out to shake the offered hand without hesitation, her smile friendly as she said "I'm Mi-Hi, Mi-Hi Harrington."

Nodding his head to her words, glad he'd been taking English classes so he could improve his English, he did wonder when things would really start up and if he'd have a hard time then. He did have issues at times in class, it couldn't be helped really. They had someone helping him though, someone with the school, they weren't here though cause this wasn't a class thing - this was optional.

"Boon-nam Meesang...I'm not from here - I'm new." As if that wasn't obvious already....but he might as well state it so it might help a little bit. Mi-Hi...that wasn't English either, he was sure of that....but the last name didn't match up either. It was interesting. "Not from here all either?"

The comment about being new made sense, although Mi-Hi hadn't wanted to assume - after all it had been equally possible that the other was unfamiliar due to the fact that DCU was a big place and - at least far as she knew - didn't share any classes with her.

Her smile brightened at being offered a return name "Well it's nice to meet you Boon-nam, what are you studying?"

She hesitated before adding "At least if you don't mind sharing" because the last thing Mi-Hi wanted to do was to presume.

She laughed at being asked whether she was from Destiny City, although it wasn't an unkind one, the question one that she was used to given that her first name wasn't an American name.

"Actually I was born here - my father is American" she said, "But my mother is Korean and is the one who came up with my name."

"Little of everything....lot of English." It was helping, without a doubt, but he wished it would help more and faster. it made it hard to communicate properly with people, like December, it was something he wanted to do better. It was just hard to learn the language and to use the right tone and know how to make sure something he said was understood.

Nodding at the answer he pointed to himself. "Thailand...my parents there now. Aunt and uncle live here." And he obviously lived with them, or maybe not obviously? He thought it was obvious though. "Very different from home." And he missed it there, a lot, but it was ok. He had his aunt and uncle here and he had December as well. If he could better his English maybe he'd make a few more friends...maybe. Maybe Mi-Hi?

"You speak Korean?" Curious, wondering if she spoke another language. It wasn't that he knew Korean, far from it, but it would most certainly make her stand out more from the others around him.

Mi-Hi nodded as Boon-nam answered her question, because it made sense that English was one of the things that the other was studying.

"I'm majoring in education" she admitted, "Because I want to be a teacher." Mi-Hi absently stirred the cauldron, a wistful note slipping into her voice as she admitted "But classes are a lot harder than they were back in high school." Whilst it certainly hadn't felt that way, things in high school had been so much simpler.

Her lips quirked up into another smile as Boon-nam mentioned Thailand "That's really neat" she said simply and she meant it "I've never been there, but I've seen pictures" mainly from geography lessons back in high school "They were beautiful."

And then answer to his next question "Yes I speak both."

She paused as a thought occured to her, her smile turning a little sheepish "I'm not speaking too fast am I?" Adding "I can slow down if so."

Well at least Mi-Hi would try to.

"What subject to teach?" What subject did she want to teach? He couldn't help but wonder what she was interested in, what subjects she enjoyed. What subjects people enjoyed was telling when it came tp people and sometimes even how they thought or or what they enjoyed. It was telling and helpful when meeting new people.

"Don't know what I want to do." He really hadn't given it much thought, not yet anyway. He'd just wanted to get through school and survive that, something which had been hard to do back in Thailand. It had been easier here though.

"I miss home...have not been since I left." And he wasn't planning on returning, at least not any time soon. It wasn't that he didn't miss his home country or that he didn't want to see his family. He did miss Thailand and he did miss his family, he wanted to see them, but the memories and emotions it would bring up for him. He couldn't face them and he didn't want his family to find out about him, and the real reason he'd left. One of these days he might tell them....maybe. But he certainly wasn't ready right now.

"Maybe bit slower....English is still new." Very new and he was trying to keep up and he was slower in talking than she was, taking the time to run things she said over in his head so he got it all correct. But her slowing might help. "At least English in common for us." Since they didn't both speak Thai or Korean....at least they could talk in some common language.

"How is here...what is there to do?" Whether he meant on campus or in general, in the city, he didn't say. Maybe he meant both.
