13 stood in the field of snow. She drew her large fan from her back.. She held on one finger the end of a string. She’d rigged it with several kunai to practice the technique, and now she pulled them. Three Kunai were flung from the branch, heading straight towards her. She swung her fan and…

The slicing blade indeed deflected the kunai, but they went to the sides and were partially cut into. One of them just barely missed 13. This… this was not the proper defensive technique that she desired. She needed to widen the beam of wind. Her previous technique was made only for offensive and cuttin. It involved focusing the chakra and releasing it at the end of the swing of the fan.

Knowing this, she tried something new. She applied the opposite logic to the new technique. She spread her chakra throughout the fan and let it flow out for the entire swing. This time, a much larger blast of wind was delivered, which blew on the snow.

She knew that the fan was also good for more than just defense and offense. To master it, she needed to be able to use it to get around the battle field. She focused chakra into it and swung it down at the ground. It sent her high into the air, and she found herself spinning as she struggled to aim her fan for a second swing, then she crashed to the ground and rolled into a tree.

She got to her feet, wincing from the pain in her side. Well, she could use that to move in an emergency but… flight was out of the question for now.

She wanted something powerful too. If she were going out into the corruption to fight monsters, her normal assassination wind blade may not cut it. She swung her fan in a different pattern this time, making multiple windblades. It was a bit exhausting and took up too much movement however. She had an idea though. To make it more efficient, she manipulated her chakra to form multiple wind blades with a single swing. Doing this, she found that the blades launched in different directions. At first she thought this might be troublesome… but after a bit she could control their directions a little, and the checkered pattern that they flew off in would actually create an offensive wall that an enemy wouldn’t easily pierce.

She still had a few other wind techniques she wanted to practice… but thinking back, she had lost her fans recently. Without them, she’d only had access to her La’Ahad techniques. She hadn’t even had weapons, so she had no real means of inflicted massive damage if she were disarmed in combat.

This was something she needed to remedy for the future. So, she would use those things. She looked at her hands. There were small holes in the palms, barely visible. She remembered when she had been sent to a certain man, who by his number-name that Thorns went by was called 3. He’d installed these things in her arms. He’d explained briefly how to use them. But the next thing she knew she’d been sent off to Fuji, and she’d never received the proper training.

She gritted her teeth and held her hands in front of her. She’d been told that if she did it wrong her arms could explode… but she found that it was actually pretty easy. Only once she surged her chakra in the wrong direction and felt a slight pain. But she was blasting air waves out of her hands before she knew it. She tried this technique on a rock poking out of the snow. At first it just blew the snow away, but she found that she could alter the wave between how much sound and wind was outputted, so that she could shatter rocks this way.

Another problem she had was more tactical. She hadn’t been brushing up on her spying skills, having had to focus on winning fights since she’d come to the city. But having a quick way to retreat would come in hand. She practiced flooding her legs with chakra and moving, until she found that she could move extremely fast. She moved from one spot to another, appearing to have teleported to anyone who may have been watching: the body flicker technique.

Yuri knew there would be times when he may have a hand occupied and would still need to have access to his ninjutsu. He had learned the Yuki ninjutsu, mastered it almost, so it wasn’t a bad next step to now perfect his ninjutsu usage in general.

He tried it. He formed the seals for crystal ice mirror with just one hand. And nothing happened.

Right, he hadn’t expected it to be that easy. If it were, everyone would be using one-handed seals. He tried it again, putting more chakra into it, but the results were the same.

Huh. He really had no idea how to go about this. He didn’t have any jutsu he used hand-signlessly, so he had nothing to base this on.
He tried it again, making careful note at each step, letting his chakra flow the same way he always did when he used crystal ice mirrors and yet… it just wouldn’t work without that second hand.

Yuri pondered over this. Hand seals. They were a way of forming raw chakra into substance, the gateway of yang. They were an easy pathway built into the system of jutsu deeply but… they weren’t the only means of accessing this pathway. In the end chakra was molded and released in a specific pattern. The hand-signs were just a means of aiding in this.

So, if he were to do this without the aid of hand signs, he would need to be more precise than ever in the way he directed his chakra.

Yuri went back to using both hands. This time he felt the flow of his chakra, felt exactly what it was doing as it formed the mirrors.

The next time he tried it with one hand, he tried to emulate this flow, direct his chakra the same way, though he found he was amateurish at directing his chakra this way. Still, through brute force, with a few tries, he was able to use one-handed seals. He though he had the pattern down. Yes, he could probably apply this to his other techniques as well.

13 knew that her transformation technique was key to sneaking around in battle, especially against a strong opponent, where her kekkei genkai was nullified. Therefore, to truly master the art of assassination, she had to master this technique.

She first made the hand-seals, turning herself into the doctor from the hospital as she had before. Then she tried again, the same pattern of chakra, but without the hand-seals. On the first attempt, nothing. To be expected. But, she slowed it down and gave it a few more tries, and before long, she was able to do it.

She held up a cloth, and when she pulled it away, she looked like Kini.

edit: This 1 point will count towards training for season 2, not season 1 since I messed up count.
