Every night it was the same thing, wasn't it..? His general would toss him out into the park, barking commands, shouting, cursing out his uselessness and Fettlelite would take it as humbly as he could. Yes sir, thank you sir, you're too kind, sir. Over and over again until the General decided that his praises were enough and let him be until dawn came.
Every night... Over and over... And with each night, his smile and eagerness faltered just a little more. His smiles faded faster, his bows ended sooner, his laughter faded and grew quieter and quieter. Tonight was just like every other night.
And just like every night, Fettelite tried to make the best of it. Draining was going slow tonight, but for a brief moment, he was excited! Something sorta blipped on his internal radar, something familiar that he just found himself so very excited to try to go meet. It was Chaos and it was strong and maybe, just maybe, this time it'd be someone who'd actually want to talk and he could make friends! Wouldn't that be absolutely lovely?!
Unfortunately, no, his luck wasn't that great, and when he hopped over that bush to greet the the 'person' he came face to face with the gnashing teeth of a lizard-like youma. Of course he screamed, then turned away and started running as fast as he could. Yes, he knew some youma weren't going to attack him, and YES he knew that they were supposed to be helpers of the Negaverse who also gathered energy and did... Things... And Stuff.... BUT that didn't mean he wasn't frightened of them! Especially the ones with teeth like those! And he ran and ran and ran, but he just wasn't fast enough so he felt that weird sticky tongue of it's wrap around his ankle and drag him to the ground with a pained 'oof!'.
"H-hey! Let me go!! I-I'm on your side!!" he wailed, leg flailing and trying desperately to break free but really not wanting to hurt the thing. He could imagine now how angry his general would be if he found how he poofed a youma, and that was the absolute last thing he needed, another reason to be 'scolded' by the man. "H-Help!! I-Is anyone there! Help me, please!!"

He didn't really like energy draining, but it was one of the things that had been impressed on him as 'required', and not negotiable. It involved getting close enough to touch someone and took a measure of concentration, the whole business not something that really came naturally to him.
Feeling, and hearing, someone come crashing by was a welcome excuse to give up the hunt, for now and Fafnir sidled to the edge of a building to peer around it, the stone cold against his bare shoulder. Surprisingly, it looked like a lieutenant. Not something he saw very often with a team full of senshi and generals, but considering how low powered they felt, he could only assume. Not far behind them came something large, quick moving and scaled... sending a prickle of unease down his spine. The unease seemed justified, when it lashed out and caught the Lieutenant, dragging them to the ground.
Fafnir almost, almost ducked back out of sight, but it was the call for help that denied him the ability to ignore the situation and mind his own god-damned business... The senshi swore as he swept back around and left his dark shelter, running across the space to intercept. Unsure exactly what to do, he settled for a kick at the head of the beast, breaking its hold and sending it scuttling back.
"Get out of here!" He barked at it, like it was some over-sized dog and not a very toothed, very upsetting looking monster. Fafnir tried to look fierce, but sweat beaded around his hairline, his spine tight.

While the kick wasn't enough to dust the youma (and Fettelite internally thanked the stars for that!) it certainly had enough of an effect to knock him away from the Lieutentant and gave him the opportunity to scramble back to his feet. The youma itself seemed discouraged that it's prey wasn't screaming and running any more, and even more so when another one of its own straight up attacked it, so rather than continue to fight with the two Negaversers, it scampered away back into the darkness of the night.
In that moment, where Fafnir shouted at the youma, Fettelite was simply astonished. So commanding, so... So very brave! Had it been possible to have stars in his eyes! And once the Youma was gone, he immediately went to Fafnir and grabbed his hands, giving them a very heart felt shake.
"Thank you, thank you! I... I didn't mean to get caught again! I always get caught by the youma! I don't know why they hate me so much, but they do and I always get attacked, but my general gets really, really angry whenever he learns I dusted one and I just knew I couldn't fight back so thank you again for helping me out!! Oh, oh geesh, are you okay too? I don't think It attacked you... I'm sorry, I was too busy panicking.." Every word came out fast and very squished together, but his expression said everything. He was happy, a little overwhelmed, but so very excited to have met another person in the Negaverse who would be so kind to save him like that.

The youma fled, but it left Fafnir still feeling keyed up, adrenaline making his heart pound a little. The monster could have as easily turned on him and the possibility of fighting it shook him. Training, learning how to fight, was so much different from actually doing it with something that didn't have a vested interest in seeing you survive the encounter.
Granted, sometimes it didn't feel much like Labyrinthite had a vested interest in keeping him alive... but he clung to the thought he was worth more alive than he was dead.
He almost jumped when the Lieutenant jumped into seize his hands, shaking them more vigorously than he felt was called for. Blue eyes blinked large and staring for a moment before he shook off the expression, carefully extracting his hands while trying to not be obvious about it.
"Ah, no worries... I'm glad I could help. Youma only respect power, and we don't have enough of it." He said, plastering an easy-going smile on his face to cover his unease. The enthusiasm was a little overboard, but Fafnir reminded himself he used to be far better at ignoring it than he was lately. "I'm fine. It didn't hit me anywhere, so no harm done. I don't blame you for being afraid, those things are pretty scary. It takes a lot to face up to one. I'm sure you'll get there some day, or at least get promoted so they start listening to you."
At least this one would get them to listen some day... Everything Fafnir had heard so far pointed to it not going that way for him, no matter how much he moved up the ranks. Yet another failing of his, for being a senshi and not an officer. He finally got a chance to eye the other up and down, noting the hat and the vest and the boots. Not horrible. Looked kind of young in the face, though it could have just been the wide-eyed and eager expression.
"I'm Fafnir. My general is Labyrinthite." He offered.

Once Fafnir had pulled his hands away from the overly-enthusiastic young Lieutenant, Fettelite choose instead to look beyond him, back where the youma had run off to, and hoped that it wouldn't come back. Whatever weird tingling sensation that it gave off in the back of his mind seemed to die down, and that panicked breath he was holding was finally let go.
"I really am glad you're alright. I'm Fettelite. You can just call me Fettel, if that works for you. I've not had anyone call me that before, but I feel like, you know, if you have a nick name, maybe it's easier to get along! Well, a nickname that's not something rude. But anyways!" Now that the panic was over, Fettelite allowed himself to fully take in the entirety of Fafnir and, for lack of better words, he was stunned.
"You are a Corrupted Senshi, yes? Your colors are so amazing! It's so much more vibrant than some of the murky stuff other officers wear, like mine for example." Fettelite waved his hand over himself, suggesting a bit of dislike to his own camo reds and greys. Had he had a choice, he would have loved something more like the blue and purples that Fafnir wore, and he wasn't shy to talk about it.
"They say as we get stronger, our uniforms get more elaborate, but I don't know how much better this bits can get. OOH, I got distracted, I wasn't interrupting anything with my shouting and, you know, almost being eaten-ness was I? Were you working on your quota? Would you.. Uh, like any help or something?"

"Fettel. Sure."
Fettelite rolled off the tongue easier, where Fettel stopped abruptly, but he'd call the other man what he preferred. A small smile quirked the corner of his mouth. "I don't have any nicknames, I'm afraid. People usually just call me by my full name."
He tugged at the top of his leather bracers, straightening them with a measure of... if not pride, then enjoyment. The colors were nice. They matched his hair and went well with his coloring, so at least he wasn't horribly unfashionable in this get up. He'd certainly worn worse on a job. The dark sorcerer look suited him fine, and if someone thought better of messing with him because of it, even better.
Not that anyone had, that he knew of.
"Your outfit isn't that bad..." He said as he looked the other over with a practiced eye. "It basic, which means it can be built on. A nice coat would do a lot for it."
Maybe skip the page boy cap... get longer pants. It had potential, in the right hands. Not that anyone ever asked him for his opinion or help picking out uniforms.
"I was filling quote..." Fafnir agreed slowly, eyeing the other man under his lashes with consideration. "And I did have to stop to help you... I suppose if you wanted to help me catch up, I wouldn't say No."
He'd never really tried working with someone for this... it had potential too. If nothing else, a pair of eyes to watch out for trouble while he drained some poor sap. Or another pair of fists if someone came looking for a fight. It wasn't a bad idea.

"There's no problem with that! Fafnir is a great name! Powerful! Like a dragon or something! OH but then I assume that's it, cuz of the horns!" And really, really beautifully colored too, though Fettel kept from laying it on hard. They had just met, and laying on the compliments thick when you first meet a person was generally unliked, so said his own general. People liked it when you shut up and let them talk, and it was hard, but the little Lieutenant really did try to tone it down, atleast a little bit.
A look of pride came over the kid, and he grinned nice and wide as he looked at his outfit. It felt strange, thinking about the compliment, and the idea of a coat, maybe with a fuzzy hood, and actual pants!
"Hehe... Well, sure! I'm normally near the clubs and what not trying to drain there. It's easy to do when you look like this; people follow you into alleys expectin' something and then the next thing they know, nap time. I can lure some out and you can drain them, and we can sit them off to the side so they don't get hurt by some random youma. Sometimes just taking them into the bathroom works too." To so many, he looked like some weird slightly costumed boy. Had he had chains or other dangles on his costume, maybe some wedged boots, he'd fit right into that kinda... Goth club scene.
"It's this way, if you wanna go!"

Blue eyes narrowed sharply and Fafnir gave the boy a closer look over, though he tried to be surreptitious about it.
He'd taken him for fairly young with the way he acted. He could have been a preteen with his bubbly personality. Fettelite didn't look that young, though it wasn't easy to really tell. He could have been around Fafnir's age, which made him feel slightly better about the implications of someone following him somewhere looking for something from a minor that they shouldn't be looking for.
"I... do that a lot too, actually. Its not the easiest method, or the fastest, but it tends to work fairly often. I suppose its not surprising other people have taken to doing the same thing." He said, thoughtful. "I'm less willing to take a more direct approach when I'm alone but... if you think you're up to getting your hands dirty, maybe we can wrap it up faster than normal?"
The lieutenant took off and he followed, thinking out how to arrange things.
"If we find someone alone, between the two of us we could grab them somewhere quiet, take some energy, and then leave? Skip all the hunting around to find someone to flirt with."

”Mhm! But it gets the job done. And sometimes it feels nice, you know? Taking out someone who’s trying to do bad things to other people who don’t deserve it. It takes away that guilt that sometimes comes with taking energy.” It wasn’t the easiest thing to do, made even worse when he was low on quota and had to sometimes go after people who weren’t such creeps....
There was something really nice though about meeting someone this nice tonight. Most of the time it seemed like people were more than ready to just bolt after they had talked for a little while. Someone who wanted to spend a little bit more time with him... Fettel was going to do his best not to mess it up!
As they headed back towards the club scene, he slowed his roll just a little bit to better walk alongside the handsomely colored Senshi.
“Sounds just good to me. Between us, I’m sure we’re someone’s type. I think we’re both pretty good looking, what about you?”

Fafnir knew the feeling of guilt. It nagged at him, some nights, as he drew what he needed out of someone who had never done anything to him, had been minding their own business, or had seemed like someone... worthwhile. But when it started to bother him, he had a strong reminder that he had very little choice about it. Labyrinthite would not accept slacking. His general was hard enough on him when he was trying his hardest, if he failed or came up short, he didn't doubt it would be far worse than that.
They paid for his continued safety. They were the toll for this life he had been forced into. He hadn't had a choice, and neither did they. He couldn't let himself feel guilty for something outside of his control.
Fafnir shook his head as Fettelite dropped back beside him, his eyes amused even if his smile was small.
"I've been told that a few times. I suppose we are." Fettelite was certainly cute, in a younger brother kind of way. More and more, that was how he was seeing him. He didn't have Rowans sarcasm and sass, but he was starting to feel something of the same protectiveness. This young man seemed soft for the role he occupied and he found it even more unfair than his own circumstances. He needed someone, maybe, to stand up for him, even if it were just in some small ways. Trey was used to being the one to sheild someone else, to take the brunt of expectations and responsibilities.
"I would rather just grab someone. We're stronger than most anyone down there..." He leaned to peer over the edge of the building they had landed on, searching the slowly moving crowd beneath them. They needed someone alone, preferably. Not too hostile looking, but not too innocent seeming either.
"That one." He said suddenly, pointing to a man that had ducked down an alley out of the flow of people. He saw a flare of light, probably a cigarette. "We can drop down on him, hold him while we take some energy, and then we can run. Quick and easy. Someone will find him and get him a cab home... probably think he drank too much, with how close the clubs are."

That was certainly true, about them being stronger than most of the people below. Fettelite had certainly shocked himself the first time he accidentally sent another person flying while powered up. A pleasant surprise for a rather unpleasant circumstance.
"Quick and easy... Yeah! I like that idea! And I don't really feel any weird youma around here either so being left in the alley should be fine. I always get scared about those, the youma... You never know who they wanna eat next." With most of the youma in the city being feral, who knew what their next target would be. Unless they were being controlled by his general who liked to sick them on Fettel himself every now and then.
Training, he called it, training him to run 'faster' or to handle blows better...
He shook his head a little, wanting to clear that thought from his head. This wasn't the time to be sad, this was the time for teamwork!
"Do you wanna jump first, or should I? Ooh, but did you wanna use your magic too? What does it do?"

He hadn't considered that... he knew youma roamed wild in the city at times, he'd run into enough of them on his own. Would they bother someone passed out in an alley? For that matter, DC has as many low-lifes as any city, and it was as likely someone with ill intentions could find their victim as a youma could.
It bothered him now that the idea had been planted in his head, but it warred with the need to fill quota and not get punished for slacking.
"I don't want to use my magic just on a regular person like that. Its kind of unfair... we've already stronger and faster than they are." Fafnir said with a small shake of his head. Looking over the area, he picked a direction that looked good and set off that way at a slow jog. "Besides, I'd rather save it in case we run into someone from the other side and we need it. There might be two of us, but I want every advantage we can get."
The thought of youma still nagged at him and he rolled his shoulders.
"We'll make sure to leave whoever it is near a busy area so someone finds them sooner rather than later." It would have to do. He cared more about his own skin than some stranger's, because punishment for failure was definite, while a youma stumbling across a random spot in the city had worse odds.
Twice he had to change direction when he felt an order signature nearby, once getting far too close for comfort and he prayed they wouldn't suddenly decide to find them... thankfully whoever it was seemed more interested in their own business. The busier areas had more signatures, but also more people. It made the space between his shoulders itch, but Fafnir found a likely target and motioned Fettelite to follow, dropping down into the alley behind a club where a young man was smoking.
The senshi waved his partner to the other side of the man before he dropped down, pacing slowly closer with a smile on his face. The smoker seemed uninterested until he glanced up, double-taking at his outfit and the hair that dragged along the ground behind him.

"Oh... you're right. These poor people..." Fettelite hadn't thought too much about it before. Just that there were some bad people who could be drained sometimes, and those people didn't always deserve nice things happening to them.
He didn't want to think about the moral dilemma there, especially when a quota not met meant more beatings from his general... His bruises were still recovering from the last time he was 'punished'.
Surprisingly, even with that tiny seed of doubt, Fettelite could still follow an order, trialing behind Fafnir diligently at each turn and twist. Together they looked below at the final target chosen and he nodded, confirming the unspoken plan then dropping down behind the smoker as quietly as he could. Words weren't needed for the attack.
The sneakier the better, but it would be better for a bit more interaction to happen before he leaped forward, so Fettel made a small signal at Fafnir, hoping he understood he wanted him to engage in conversation.

The 'poor people' comment nipped at him, but Fafnir kept it firmly out of mind as they worked. He couldn't afford to feel for the people they used. There was a bigger picture to look at, purposes they needed to fulfill. He hoped Fettelite would learn to think that way too, because the Negaverse was not a gentle place for gentle people.
None of that showed on his face, of course, as he gave the smoker an inviting smile. He kept it light... a little shy, but making a friendly overture. Nothing threatening there, certainly, even if his clothes were outlandish. Fafnir could only imagine what the guy thought about him and why he was dressed how he was.
"I'm sorry, I know this is kind of weird, but could you help me?" He breathed, trying to sound more hesitant than he was. "I'm pretty sure I'm lost."
It seemed to work. The guy wasn't watching him as hard as he had been, even seemed to smile a little as he took the cigarette out of his mouth and straightened up from the wall. Fafnir prayed Fettelite could be quiet. This act would not stop the man from looking around if he heard a noise.
"Where you headed?" He man said, tucking his free hand into his pocket.

Fettel remained in the shadows, watching in awe at how Fafnir approached their target.
He really was pretty, wasn't he?
It seemed like the man with the cigarette thought so too... There was a little bit of worry, would his new friend be okay..? But after talking there was no doubt that the senshi was better off than he was. He would be just fine.
And Fettel would wait until told to move again.
Whimsical Blue omg nearly a year we started this. XD Gotta wrap it up soon so we can move them to present time!
