Parfait just didn't understand it. There were so many hallowed kids at the school... but still there were those who hated them. Or maybe it was that they just hated her? She really didn't know. Classes had ended for the day, and she wanted to play in the school yard before going back to her room, but some of the other children had other ideas. She was stopped by a few kids in one of the other dorms, she didn't know them, and they were calling her names. She really didn't understand why they picked on her, and so she just stood there, crying.

User ImageSebastian walked away from the classroom, fully intending to simply portal home and enjoy a nice, quiet afternoon of playing Infinite Dread. His face always in a permanent state of brooding, he enjoyed the fact that no one seemed to bother him - as if his own demeanour wasn't enough, the skeletal unicorn that was his tail was usually sufficient to keep people away. The freshling was shocked to feel himself being pulled out of his own introverted world by the sounds of jeering and crying. Brow furrowed in concerned interest, he paused to see a young girl crying from a bunch of bullies. "Pathetic," he mumbled, about to turn away before he noticed more details of the girl. Her tail seemed... different. A dark suspicion crept over him, and he confidently strode towards the scene.

When closer, Sebastian could see the girl's completely black eyes, and his suspicions were confirmed; she was being bullied for being hallowed. Suddenly furious, the hybrid moved himself in front of her, staring down the bullies.
"You got a problem?" He said coolly, his tail - Ghost - leering ominously over his shoulder. After a few moments of consideration, the children seemed to decide it would be best to leave. Sebastian waited until they were out of sight before turning around to face the girl. "They're idiots," he said bitterly.

Parfait rubbed her eyes as someone else joined in. She thought at first that the newcomer was just going to join in and make fun of her, but... He didn't. The newcomer was standing in front of her and stared down the bullies. When they left, she wiped her cheeks dry and looked up at at the imposing tail the other had. She swallowed. "T... thank you." She really hadn't expected this. Her folded ears perked up a little, and her big black eyes looked over the newcomer and their tail. "...M...may I pet your tail?" She couldn't help but ask as she stared at him in fascination.

User ImageSebastian tried not to look disgusted as she wiped away her tears. How did someone become emotional so quickly? He didn't understand, but he was glad she didn't simply stand there and keep crying. He saw her hesitantly look at Ghost, and he couldn't help but feel a pang of anger. Just as he always reminded himself, even other Hallowed were scared of him. He gave a small shrug when she thanked him and was about to turn away to leave when she asked to.. pat his tail? He stood shocked for a moment, staring at her and trying to decide if she was serious. Regardless, the answer would be the same. "No," he said simply, although the tail in question seemed to be leaning more over his shoulder, showing a small amount of curiosity in the other freshling.

"Oh... ok." She hesitated, looking at him and his tail. "I just thought I should ask... I mean your tail is very cute." She looked back at her own tail. Most people only ever ridiculed her for it. "Oh, uh, my name is Parfait." She didn't want to be rude. "Do... do you maybe want to... play a game? Unless you're busy. I would understand. I'm probably in the way. You probably had plans... Still, thank you for getting rid of those guys." She shuffled her feet nervously.

User ImageSebastian continued to stare intently at the girl with all four of his eyes, still taken aback by her question. Who in Below would say yes to such a request? By a complete stranger? When she said Ghost was cute, Sebastian felt his cheeks start to redden and he finally looked away. No one had ever called his tail anything but horrifying and disturbing - certainly not 'cute'. Ghost, however, seemed to appreciate the positive attention and silently bobbed his head towards the freshling, as if trying to keep her attention. "Name's Sebastian, this is Ghost," he responded, somewhat annoyed this brief attempt to shut down bigots had turned into a huge distraction. When she offered to play a game, Sebastian was once again slightly shocked. He didn't know this girl - Parfait, she said? - and yet she was so quick to make such bold offers. Still, he couldn't help but admire her bluntness. "I was already going to play a game," he said dismissively, "Infinite Dread. I'm up to one of the last bosses but... they made it hard to beat without a second player." It frustrated Sebastian that most modern games encouraged multiplayer - the whole point of video games to him was to escape dealing with people.

"It's nice to meet you both." Parfait smiled faintly at Sebastian, and then looked back at Ghost as ... he...? Bobbed up and down at her. She remembered a teacher telling class that shades and their tails were like 2 people that were connected. She reached a hand out to Ghost, but didn't try to touch. The tails couldn't see, right? But some of them could smell? Maybe Ghost would recognize her scent as friendly...

"That's... a video game, right?" She glanced at Sebastian's face. "I thought games were more fun with more people... maybe the video game people think the same way, and want game players to make friends with each other to win things." She bit her lip a moment. "I might not be good at the game, but I could try to help you win?"

User ImageSebastian narrowed his eyes as Parfait reached out towards Ghost, and only then did he notice how much the tail had begun leaning over him, moving his head around to gain attention. The freshling scoffed lightly at this unusual behaviour and, with that, Ghost made one last movement towards the girl before pulling away. Trying not to roll his eyes, Sebastian listened to Parfait talk about how great it was to play with others. Hardly - what if they didn't do what he said? It was incredibly inefficient. No, the only person he needed was Ghost. That said, the tail didn't exactly have hands to help him out.

When Parfait suggested she help him, Sebastian's immediate instinct was to say no, but he hesitated. He had been stuck on this boss for a week now and it was starting to grate on him. He was too stubborn to simply move on and play another game without beating it first, so it seemed he had no choice.
"I... guess," he agreed reluctantly. "I suppose I could show you the basics, really I just need a healer to keep me up in fights." The more he spoke about it, the more it seemed a good idea. Perhaps Ghost could keep her occupied too, so he still wouldn't have to socialise.

When Ghost pulled away, Parfait lowered her hands, still smiling at Sebastian. "Ooooh, a healer? That could be really fun!" She didn't particularly know if she'd be any good at fighting, but perhaps running away and keeping the other player alive? She thought maybe she could do that. "I'd like to try. I mean... if I can help you beat the level, I'd be glad." She felt like she owed him for stepping in against the bullies.

User ImageSebastian was relieved when she agreed to be a healer; some people - like his dad - would get so defensive and wanted to be the damage dealer, but he knew they would never be better than him so why argue it? He listened to Parfait and let out a small sigh of defeat. How did this turn into getting a gaming buddy? Hopefully she wouldn't think this would be a more-than-once thing. "Ok. Come on, there's a portal that goes right near my house," he instructed, turning to walk to the portal bay. Hopefully his mother would be working late, he didn't want her making any dumb comments about him bringing someone home. 'Ooh, Nocte brought a friend home, he's becoming social!' He imitated in his head. At least dad would be at night classes.

sorry for the delay!

"Oh? That's convenient." She smiled at him. "So, Infinite Dread... What sort of characters can you play as? Besides a healer and a damage dealer. I might need a practice run to learn how to play." She smiled at him, then at Ghost. She was really excited to play video games, and to be making a friend.
