The past that defines us...Evea continued her same path, from the valleys to the sea every year, winters by the crashing waves, summers in the tall grasses and trees. Her life remained quiet after her last
friend abandoned her. Until the spring evening things began to change....
Her mane twitched the ends ruffling along the breeze, bright blue eyes frozen wide as her ears picked up something spoken from a small distance away, her muzzle turned, hooves moving against her own wishes as she inched closer to the large gathering of creatures, so many voices cascading into a beautiful noise that appeared so full of hope. Something about wishing upon the grassy alter on the hill, wishes granted...
It was almost too good to be true, so ofcourse her mind screamed not to listen to more, not to let that seed of hope sprout, and yet... it was to late. So she stood there, as the stars began to shine, the suns final rays fading in a brilliant sunset beyond the hill. She watched as Soq, Familiars, and even two legs wondered up the hill, taking their turns, placing something upon an alter, she couldn't hear the whispers of what from this distance, that they prayed for. But she had a decent idea thanks to all the chatter going on at the base.
'... a wish... I could wish? And the spirits would hear?...' Her memories sparked, of a happy couple and their precious foals as they burst from their baskets. Wobbly legged and wide eyed. It was one of the more beautiful things She had seen in her many travels along this now well known path of her own design.
With a spark of hope she did something she had not in years. White coat glimmered in the star light as her hooves made soft quiet progress into the clearing, Despite the fear, no one noticed one little lonely mare wondering past them. Nor did they see her climb that hill, tears glistening in her bright blue gaze. Her heart danced in fierce prayer as she placed her offering, bowed low, then turned and raced from the clearing, Heart pounding breathing hard and her mind circling the possibilities, never in her wildest dreams could she imagine the joy that would follow that brave decision. Nor the heartbreak she would one day place upon herself and the ones she would love...
That night she fell asleep in a gentle glade, a stream trickling nearby, her body safely wedged between a few large boulders and a interestingly crooked tree. She slept soundly that night, dreaming things she would never dare hope for in her waking mind.
Morning came bright, early, with a sweet breeze tickling her nose. Two scents she did not recognize and yet smelt surprisingly familiar burst across her mind having her jumping to her hooves without a second thought, terror driving her heart rate up. And yet when her bright blue eyes finally focused from their fuzzy sleeping state, nothing moved. There were no voices, just the breeze and the sounds of soft heartbeats. She stood there, hooves poised to gallop to the safety of the forest, Breathing hard, nostrils flared, her ears flickering this way and that as she attempted to locate the soft sounds, two beating hearts not her own. After a few moments of this frantic search she froze, nothing but her gaze lowering as she looked directly beside herself, tucked under the crooked tree. Two baskets, Two baskets with beating hearts and a scent so familiar, so comforting her guard couldn't resist dropping.
The spirits had heard her, and rewarded this lonely mare. She knew it as soon as she took a deep whiff of each small baskets scent. These, somehow beyond all hope, Beyond all reason. Were for her. Tears of unimaginable joy cascaded down her white cheeks as she nuzzled each basket nothing but her soft sob of complete wonderment piercing the quiet glade.
Beware the horror of ones own fears. Those boys were her world, Her heart, Her soul. Never had Evea Dove thought she would find herself feeling these things. So full of love, so full of hope as she spent each day watching them grow. They were her greatest joy, and she could never imagine herself beyond that moment. Teaching them of life, showing them what she never had,
love being the mother she had always wished for in the deepest depths of her broken heart.
Life was quiet and perfect for her and her two boys. She spent the years loving them fiercely protective, hardly even recognizable was the mare who was afraid of her own shadow, for she had a reason to be more. Two handsome reasons to be more then she ever had been. And for years they were happy.
---------------
As they grew so did a shadow in her heart, a voice in her head, whispering terrible things to her. How she was never going to be good enough, how they deserved MORE then she could ever give them. As foal's grew into handsome stallions so did the voice grow into a desperate anxiety, a plea for her to leave, for her boys didn't need her any longer. they didn't need a mother who was worth nothing, part of no herd, who had no value. What good was she, now that being a mother was not necessary.
----------------
The night was nearing it's end as she stood on silent hooves, ever the graceful creature. Sweet was the spring air as it dampened the new sprouts of life all around her and her boys. They were stallions now, she was so proud of them both, and yet her ears drooped as her eyes shed the silent sob of her heart. They deserved more then what she could give them, and now that they were truly grown... what claim did she have for them both?
'I am only holding them back...' she fought the soft nicker that wanted to leave her throat, watching Glitch as he flicked one of his paws dreaming of wonderful things she was sure. Her eye's fell to Glimmer, the tears falling from her eyes making his image hard to see. Oh she loved her boys, and yet what good could she be to them now. Nothing good would come of her staying, even if she wanted so much to never leave their sides.
She gave a long look, one last moment to burn into her mind before she left on silent hooves. her tail swishing in anxiety, eyes blinded entirely as she fled in a direction she had yet to ever travel. Leaving the trails she had made with her boys, making it impossible for her to be found. Her heart shattered as she left, and yet she just knew, it was for the best.... This had to be for the best.
'I love you both... I'm so sorry...' She allowed herself to cry as hard as she wanted the further her hooves took her from her two boys. Her Glimmer and Glitch. The two who held what was left of her broken heart.
