What is their personality like?
A natural liar and skillful user of others, Carmilla is fond of mind games, preferring to talk and deceive rather than fight. Her ruthless sadism manifests as a sick pleasure in toying with her prey, often posing as a friend and lover to young women, her favorite prey. Whether it’s raw sex appeal or clever lies, she’ll do what it takes to achieve her objectives. While her actions are usually motivated by selfish desire, she isn’t above placing some value onto those who present themselves as friends and allies, though if she had to choose between helping a friend and saving her own skin, she’d always choose the latter.
What are they capable of?
Carmilla is advanced in the Presence discipline. As such, she is a master manipulator and skilled deceiver. Her lies can be spoken with such confidence and resolve that even the most astute listeners may be fooled. Often she employs her discipline to manipulate others, an act she considers something akin to a hobby, lying and scheming for sport. Her particular skills make her viable as an agent for gathering information, performing interrogations, and working comfortably alongside humans to further conceal other vampires.
What is their backstory?
Born Mircalla, Countess Karnstein during late 1600s in Styria, Austria, Mircalla was targeted by an unnamed fourth-generation vampire who sought to use the Karnstein’s noble influence for her agenda. After her parents mysteriously vanished and she became the heiress, Mircalla served as something of an apprentice to the older vampire who insisted on being addressed as her “mother”, the two continuing this relationship before her “mother” vanished entirely in the early 1800s. Mircalla was left for dead and nearly slain, but overcame the circumstances and resurfaced shortly thereafter.
In order to preserve her history yet likewise remove evidence of her past lives, she manipulated Sheridan Le Fanu to write her tale (albeit exaggerated and fabricated) in his novel “Carmilla”, thus fooling the world into believing her as nothing more than a character from one of his stories. Since then, she has taken a number of different aliases. It wasn’t really until the late 1800s that she would find herself brought into the Ekon coven.
In the present day, she has assumed the alias of Cara Stein for her “teenage” persona, and simply Carmilla Karnstein for her adult personality.
