I was just wondering if any of your bands have ever used weird props. Since my freshman year, my BD began implementing props into our shows. First, he decided on really tall wooden chairs and this past year he got these eight gigantic canvas tents (that we had to assemble/ take down in ten minutes or less before and after every single football game and competition.) Anyways, I was just wondering if any of your BDs are the same or if mine just has a few extra screws loose.

I saw this one band at a comp who had a Wizard of Oz theme. They used a bunch of green, upright pool noodles (those long floaty foam things for swimming) They were trying to create the emerald city but the noodles were lime green so the effect wasn't quite reached. It looked hilarious from the backside where we were sitting lol

I've also seen a Wizard of Oz show, but it wasn't that bad...
The weirdest prop I've seen is a sword in the stone.
The coolest props I've seen are these huge mirrors for a show called 'Narcissus'.

Our band's too lame to use props, but I remember Southgate's theme last year was Stranded! and they had these giant canvases with parts of an airplane on them. In the beginning of the show, the plane was intact, and when it "crashed" the pieces were moved apart and jumbled all over. The guard wore flight attendant outfits, as did the drum majors, and after the plane crashed, the players would all fall to the ground and the guard would change into tribal outfits. Then members of the band and guard had masks and spears and would attack the other band members, it was really awesome.

we had this strange triangular apparatus on wheels that was covered with what looked like astro turf, and it had styrofoam grave stones sticking out of it. It was supposed to be a grave yard with grass that was much greener compared to where we marched. THere were pipes sticking out of it that were connected to a fog machine. It was pretty cool though, we got excellent markings for GE biggrin

We used to use props EVERY year.
Freshman year Jykell and Hyde:
Two large triangles that came appart that had pictures from the play on them and the gaurd could twirl the smaller peices around.
Sophomore Year: Twelve Seconds to the moon.
a giant airplane that took flight for exactly twelve seconds
Junior Year: Power, Peace, and Promise
A large back drop set that went across the back sideline with a landscape scene.
Senior year: The Highlands
Remember the landscape scene? We used that and added a giant castle tower with a ladder and a platform hidden behind it, and soloists would stand on the platform and play and it looked like they were in the castle.
Yeah, my band director had major issues....

Until the past two years, our BD never would have used props- ever. I don't know what changed his mind. I think he's tired of our school's audience being impressed by the richer bands because they have a giant piece of cardboard on the field. I've actually seen bands whose props have fallen over while performing.

Last year (this year) they found a mannequin head on one of the fields and now it's our good luck, we bring it with us to EVERY game. And one time we forgot it and our team lost.

we saw this one band and they had a castle prop with a door in it and at one point in the show, the color guard had to go through it. One of them was bigger . . . and she got stuck. They also had these weird drum lookin things and I was like WTF!? It was just a tad bit weird if ya ask me . . .
