Matilda had a new sort of spring in her step, and for once, the hybrid felt like things were going…well. She felt happy. And when her eyes landed on the whispy tendrils of another student who was at least part geist…she felt excited. Perhaps this would be yet another new friend. Now that she knew how valuable friends could actually be.
Cautiously, the freshling made her way over to the girl staying behind her, her eyes on the fluffy green pigtails which sat atop her head.
Perhaps it wouldn’t be the nicest of meetings but…
…but she really wanted to play with them. Cautiously, Matilda reached out with a clawed hand and poofed one of the tufts of hair. “Oh! Your hair is soft…My name’s Matilda, would you like to be friends?”
…She was ever so smooth.

Talia had been minding her own business, looking at a book while standing up. She still wasn't sure if she was interested in the book or not, and so was reading the first chapter to see if she would read the rest of it, when suddenly she felt something moving her pigtail! She jumped at the sudden-ness of it. She was about to tell them to stop when she heard the voice and it was... nice? She turned around and saw what seemed to be some sort of geist hybrid. They didn't look mean... and even if they had poofed her pigtail without permission, Talia didn't mind it...
"Uh, I'm Talia." She was a bit hesitant to say anything, even if the other was seemingly nice about what they were saying. It was just all so sudden. "Friends? But we don't even know each other. I mean, we can still be friends though!" Talia quickly added the last part. She didn't want to give up on a potential friend!

Matilda grinned, her soft glowing eyes gleaming with excitement. Now she had two friends…that was two more than she had before. “Hello Talia~” She looked the girl over and laughed lightly. “I like your hair a lot…it’s very soft!”
Oh…oh now what? She was getting much better at making friends…but it was at this point…the continuing of a conversation that she stagnated…it was difficult…figuring out what to say…figuring out how to read social cues…she wasn’t very good with social cues, though her eyes alighted on the book in the other girl’s hand. “Oh, you like to read? I try to read every so often…but I don’t know…It’s just…It’s just not what I want it to be…if that makes sense.”
It didn’t, and she knew it but…
“What else do you like to do, Talia…? How do you have fun?”

Talia thought about it for a moment. "I think I know what you mean... Books and reading are pretty dependent. Which is why I try to read the first chapter of the book at least. Though sometimes it's quite a bit different from how the rest of the book will be." She always wanted to skip to the end of those books to see what happened, but she had always managed to keep herself from doing so, even if that meant that she would be disappointed later.
She realized that Matilda had asked another question. "Oh! Uh, I like going outside and playing. I don't do too much out there because a lot of the kids like to be mean, so I'm often stuck by myself, but that's okay. But I am willing to try out new things! What about you Matilda? What do you like to do for fun?"

The hybrid looked thoughtful at the question. She did fun things…sometimes. But what really…made her happy to do…
“I really…I like arts and crafts. I like painting. Especially when I just get to use my fingers? It’s so fun to really…really feel what I’m painting, you know? I have so much more control over it when it’s me and not just a brush…though…though I guess that might sound a little silly…but I really like it. It might be my most favorite thing. For now at least…but,”
She gave a grin, hoping she didn’t look too frightening by doing so. “Maybe…one day you and me can go to the library and you can help me find a good book to read? Something that isn’t so very boring?”

“Finger painting is always fun! I don’t know why they say it’s a “kid” thing. Or at least from the adults that I’ve heard.” She hadn’t heard a lot of them being an orphan, but she had heard of some of the older kids and such saying that finger-painting was “kiddy”.
Talia grinned back. This girl seemed okay! Or at least she didn’t seem to want to be mean. “Yeah! There are all sorts of books! Some are more complicated or boring, but I’m sure that I could find you something. What do you like? Adventure? Mystery? There are tons of choices!” She thought for a moment. “I also like to play board games too. They have some at the library if you want to check some out. And you can show me finger painting sometime!”

Matilda nodded eagerly, pleased at how this conversation was going. She had a new friend now, she was sure of it, and they would get to read books together, and paint together and…and just…
Just have fun.
“You know…I have to admit that I never really thought I’d have any friends! But…but it’s so nice to have met you, Talia! And I’m getting really excited to explore the library, and the idea of board games sounds super fun too…I…”
The small hybrid shrugged, her eyes glancing down at the floor. “I just…I always kind of feel out of place here, I guess. I don’t know why. But I know I look…kind of scary and…and I just…” She bit her lip and broke into a large grin. “I don’t know. It just means a lot that you’re so nice, you know?”

“Me neither! Well I mean, there was Lailah but she didn’t really seem into being friends. With anyone.” She wondered about her old roommate sometimes. Lailah really wasn’t mean, but she didn’t seem to pay attention to anything either, so Lailah often seemed lost in thought which meant that Talia didn’t really get to play with her.
Talia quickly shook her head. “You’re not scary! I mean, others don’t treat me nice. But that’s because I’m a geist. Though since you look like you’re a geist, they could be being mean to you from that. But that just means that we need to have each other’s backs!” Seriously, if Matilda’s parents were obviously mixes, then why were people still so mean to geists? It seemed like they could get along if they really wanted to!

The idea of having someone’s back made Matilda smile, and she nodded eagerly. “I’ll always have your back then, Talia, I promise.” She extended her hand and held out her clawed pinkie, grinning now, her eyes glowing softly in anticipation of this oh so important test of friendship—the pinkie promise.
“I am part geist yeah. They told me I’m part geist, part goblin so…” She shrugged, her tail twitching slightly. “I don’t mind though. I’m…happy to be who I am. And what I am so…that’s all there is too it. And when you’re happy being you…that’s about as happy as you can get, I think!”
She looked at her new friend fondly and laughed. “Maybe we can go to the library now? I’d like to find something fun to read!”

Talia quickly nodded and clumsy completed the pinky promise that was being made. “Yeah, I’ll always have your back too!” This was great! She finally found someone that she could do more with! More than talking at least! She ‘wowed’ at what Matilda told her. “Part goblin too! That sounds so cool! You’ll have to tell me what that’s like! I don’t know much about goblins…” And she didn’t. Honestly, she knew very little on any of the races, including her own.
Going to the library could fix that! She nodded to Matilda, grasping the other’s hand to take them both to the library. “Yeah! We’ll definitely find something! I’m sure that we can find something you like!” She said, making sure that Matilda was okay with Talia guiding her as they went along their book quest.Orangeish Sherbert And that's it for me! Thanks for the rp!
