It was late. A lot later than Rory usually stayed out, and even if Reven had managed to catch a few z's in the early evening as she'd been waiting for her human to return after work, she was awake now. Awake and worried. It wasn't like Rory to not check in when plans changed. They had the tablets, it was easy to keep in contact, so why hadn't she heard anything yet?

Unless Rory hadn't powered up, or was unable to. The thought left Reven feeling anxious, and her tail flicked restlessly from side to side where she lay on Rory's pillow.

At this point she was worried enough to consider sending a message to Bob to see if he'd seen the girl, but ugh... Bob

Still, if he knew something...

Reven's head jerked up when she heard the door to the apartment open, and she sat up, eyes and ears both trained on Rory's bedroom door as she listened hard to the sound of someone moving around quietly downstairs. Rory. Light, careful steps. The kitten knew those footsteps anywhere.

Impatiently she waited for the girl to climb the stairs, claws out and flexed into the fabric of the pillowcase she was sitting on.

It was hard to pinpoint a single emotion in that moment. Relief was there, obviously, because Rory was home now, but there was also annoyance for having been kept waiting at all, worry lingering around the edges, and even a bit of anger as well, because where the hell had she been?!

But she kept her teeth closed around whatever might have come blurting out of her mouth as the door opened, had something more level lined up, and then abandoned that as well as she took in the bruised and tosseled state of her girl with wide eyes.

"Rory, what happened to you?" It came out squeezed tight and anxious as the kitten hopped up from the pillow to the bedside table to butt her head against the young woman's hip.

Bright eyes widened at the news of an attack. "You're okay?" Her tone was a little dubious, brows dipping as she narrowed her eyes at the girl. Well aware of her habit of downplaying, well, lots of important things. "What did the doctors at the ER say?"

She hopped back over to the bed as she spoke, pacing down the length of it and up against before sitting, tail lashing along the comforter. "How did you get away from it? The youma?" It wasn't like those things just gave up once they'd set their sights on something. You either had to get away from it(which wasn't easy), or beat it.

"Is your friend okay?" Now Reven didn't care too much. Ax was alright, he shared his food with the kitten and didn't throw a fit when she tried to take his phone. She knew Rory would worry over him, though.

Rory would find her lap invaded by a small furry body once she'd settled on at the foot of the bed. "Are you going to listen to them?" It was a little dubious, Reven well acquainted with Rory's selfless streak at this point. She didn't exactly trust the girl to take care of herself, which made being her guardian difficult sometimes.

But only sometimes.

She fell quite though as Rory continued, a paw extending to rest on the back of one of her hands in reassurance.

Initially, as Rory paused, the kitten thought the worst. The reality wasn't exactly much better, but at least Rory's friend wasn't dead. "Well...at least he was able to protect you, but..." It was a tricky situation.

Laying back, she looked up at Rory. "Does anyone else know?" There was a small, thoughtful pause before she continued. "What are you going to do?" What could she do?

Eyes closed, Reven arched against the scratching fingers, a steady purr rumbling in her chest. As much a response to the attention as a bid to offer some manner of comfort to her rattled girl. She could feel the tension in Rory, in how stiffly she sat and the tone of her voice.

"You can't tell him," she reminded, voice uncharacteristically gentle. She knew Rory knew that, but she also knew how much she cared for her friends and how selfless she could be. She butt her head up against one small hand, nosing at her palm.

Reven didn't know Axton that well. She'd seen him a good number of times, and he was nice to her and obviously cared a great deal for Rory. It didn't surprise the kitten that he'd blow his cover to keep his friend safe. Reven didn't think the man had that many people he cared that deeply for, at least he never spoke of them.

"Do you want to report it? I mean if no one else saw..." What would happen if she did? "Would it paint a target on his back if the Negaverse suddenly knew who he was?" Having not gotten terribly involved in her duties up to this point Reven honestly wasn't sure.

The kitten's nose wrinkled at Rory's tone, but she didn't take being snapped at personally. The poor girl had been through too much in the last few hours for Reven to fault her being in a foul mood or having a shorter temper than usual.

She did not, however, like Rory's hands retreating away. It had the pale cat blinking up at the girl before straightened up to lay little paws on her girl's chest for balance, scent marking the point of her chin. "I know." It's okay. It'll be okay. God, he hoped she was right.

Settling back once again she considered the options Rory laid out, the tip of her tail flicking thoughtfully. "Bringing him over would keep him safe, at least from your allies. Couldn't you find someone in the ranks that you could request that from?" Reven didn't know if things really worked that way, but surely there was someone in the Negaverse willing to corrupt loved ones to keep them safe from harm.

It was hard sitting there and knowing there was only so much help she could be in this moment. Only so much comfort she could bring her girl. Only so much insight or advice she could give. There was no quick fix to this, no bandaid they could put on the situation to know everything would turn out fine.

Reven felt helpless, and she hated it.

"He won't hate you. He loves you. You're like a little sister to him." The kitten frowned, tail curling around her feet. "He was willing to risk his identity, his life to keep you safe." She sounded sure, but there was no way to know with absolute certainty.

Blue eyes dipped, ears folding back as she racked her little kitten brain for ideas. "What if... What if , whoever you asked to corrupt him, you ask them to make it seem like you didn't have anything to do with it?" She lifted her head again to look up at Rory. "Why does he have to know you had anything to do with it?"

There wasn't anything comforting Reven could say to that. Sometimes life pulled people in diverging directions. Sometimes things just happened. She didn't think Axton would walk away, but she couldn't say for certain either.

Instead she just butt her head against the poor girl's side, trying to be as reassuring as she could.

"Do you want me there with you, like for moral support or anything?" She'd been a lackluster guardian in the past, she knew that, and she was trying to be more present.
