Things were kind of okay for Cor Caroli. He still had his guilt and his doubts and a need to fling himself into space, but he hadn't gotten roughed up since his encounter with that nasty Corrupt Senshi, so he considered that a small victory. Then again, that was largely because he was avoiding battle. He'd come to accept that he wasn't a fighter, which made being a senshi complicated. He could just not power up, but if he didn't, he wouldn't get to go to space, that would be... boring.

Interrupting his reverie was a small, dark, prickly thing on the edge of his senses. It had to be a Negaverse Lieutenant. This presented a conflict: on the one hand, it was just a Lieutenant. On the other hand, did Cor really want to risk the Lieutenant being stronger than him and possibly going for the starseed? No. The risks outweighed any potential benefits. So Cor kept walking briskly, hoping that the Lieutenant didn't pick up on him during that time.

Crocoite had been getting his butt handed to him, but a surprisingly gentle lesson about using energy to heal himself from his General had him back on track. He had not expected her to not only save him from that fight with the full fledged knight, but show him mercy after his failure, but she had.

It was strange, to say the least.

In any case, he was stronger for it, learning more about fighting, and the way knights used their magic in a different way to senshi. They were also, so far, much more inclined to a brawl than their white moon counter parts, as senshi were more talky and less fighty. Or maybe he just had bad luck when it came to meeting knights.

He felt a stronger-than-him aura and frowned. The last time he had just gone for it, he nearly got himself killed. But he now had the impression that Painite would show up when he needed her, and maybe that gave him a bit of false confidence.

That in mind, he made his way toward the aura rather than away from it. It seemed to be heading away from him, anyway, and he knew the owner could sense him just easily. Maybe he was scared.

"Ignoring your duties, hm?" he snarled, as he approached, cane already in hand.

Well crap, the Lieutenant found him anyway. Cor tried as hard as he could not to shudder or show any sign that he felt the deck was stacked against him. Even a Lieutenant could rip a starseed. He thought carefully before he spoke. "No, just ignoring you," he said. Then he turned and bolted, running full speed away from the Lieutenant, heading for the rooftops in hopes of being able to get higher than he could. He was not in the mood to lose his starseed tonight, not to anyone, and certainly not to some measly lieutenant. Boy, did he wish that he at least had an attack for stopping people in their tracks, but nope, nothing.

"Me? What on earth did I do to deserve that?" Crocoite feigned insult, though he grinned wickedly as the other man turned to face him. He tapped his cane against the ground, shaking his head.

He was not expecting the White Moon flunky to take off and run, but that was what happened. Why was someone that out ranked him so afraid? He must have been very weak.

"That is very rude," he called. The predator instinct in him kicked into gear, though, and he quickly gave chase. He was not as fast, limited by his rank, but he was determined and not about to lose a chance to get a starseed from someone stronger than him. That would win him points with the negaverse, for sure!

And he needed those points.

"Get back here, you coward! Aren't you meant to be protecting these streets?!"

Okay, the ending called quip stung a little. He was supposed to be protecting the streets, but when he did a cursory search of his mind, he found he cared less about the streets of Destiny City and more about getting to space so that he could have a moment of peace. It wasn't like Destiny City would get leveled without him, right? He was just one not-terribly-useful senshi. If anything, it'd be better if he was up in space. That'd be one less senshi that got blown up with the city, or something.

In any case, Cor Caroli had an idea. At the edge of a rooftop, he suddenly stopped and braced himself. Any number of things could happen now: the lieutenant's momentum could cause him to comically skid past him, or he'd just barely make it, or the lieutenant could plow into him. He was hoping that, if the last outcome was the case, the Lieutenant would skid into his fist or something that'd hurt.

Crocoite saw Cor stop, grinning at the attempted trick. He did know that he could see him from a far enough distance to compensate, right?

He brought up his cane, holding it with both hands like a battering ram, the metal crocodile head facing forward to do the damage.

A little brute force never hurt, right? Except almost all the time.

Crocoite was finding this battle to be much more to his liking: an opponent he could chase, and one that seemed as though he might be afraid. Fear, Painite always taught, was the strongest weapon they had. The more they could utilize it, the better it was. Though she tended toward the brutal, bloody end of the spectrum, while he usually preferred a more cerebral method. At the moment, he was just fine with whichever one worked.

Cor's plan backfired miserably, and he ended up taking the brunt of Crocoite's force. The crocodile head hit him like a very small and focused punch to the gut, and with a wheeze that faded into a shout, he toppled from the roof. The sensation of falling struck an uncommon sense of fear into him, and the terror of going 'splat' on the ground felt even closer to reality than it had ever been. He had to right himself, he had to at least try to land properly. Powered people jumped down from these heights all the time. Falling couldn't be much different, could it?

He focused on landing on his feet and shut his eyes. He hit the ground hard, the shock of landing rippling through his body and sending him staggering onto his behind. That hurt, but he didn't hear or feel anything break, so his powered status must have spared him some trouble. It seemed that, now that he was on lower ground, he was actually going to have to fight. He put his hand to his chest, muttered "Strength of Will," and used his magic on himself. The world seemed to sharpen a little, and the shock ebbed away. Drawing on his own power felt really good. Why didn't he do it more often?

Quote:
Sailor Scout Attack: Strength of Will!

Cor Caroli extends one hand towards the target and says the attack name. If he puts his hand to his chest, he can target himself. The target will feel a boost to their will to fight, allowing them to shrug off the pain of minor injuries and keep fighting. The buff lasts for 30 seconds and can be used three times per battle.

Crocoite hooted a laugh, feeling how hard his attack hit and delighting in the way it felt. Okay, he could see why his General enjoyed herself so much, when she went a bit crazy in a fight. When one was winning, it felt great.

That was his problem, though. He did not often win, at least not in direct physical contests.

It was certainly something he could get used to.

He watched with a wide, toothy grin as Cor fell off the roof, wanting to see him crash to the ground, maybe break a few body parts. He leaped off the roof to follow the attack, bringing his cane up over his head and laughing as he dropped down from above, trying to smash the other like a very violent game of whack-a-mole.

He did hear the spell being called, but there was very little he could do in it while trapped in gravity, and would have to wonder what it did after he landed.

Did everyone somehow pick up on Megrez's "land-on-them-from-above" tactic? She was the only one he'd seen use that before, and now suddenly there were a smattering of people doing that. That aside, Cor got an idea while trying to think fast. He could easily affect the Lieutenant's landing by changing the terrain, so to speak, and looking near him, he spotted what he could use to do that. Grinning, he grabbed a garbage can and yanked it so that, ideally, Crocoite would land in it. Once he did, he'd slam the lid down and BAM! He'd be out of there! Talk about trashing your enemies.

Crocoite, not being a small child-sized battler, landed almost in the trash can, but not quite. Only half of his legs made it inside, which was not actually any better than being fully in the can itself. In fact, it was probably a whole lot worse.

With a yelp, he fell over, with the trash can between his legs, and was incredibly thankful the meat of his thigh took most of the landing. Still, it was very, very painful, and made him have to retreat a few feet before he could muster enough stubborn anger to get to his feet.

Well, the other half of his feet. He kept his weight on the side of his body that had not been so rudely introduced to a trash can.

"Not funny, Senshi," he growled, "and about to cost you." He leaned on his cane, actually needing it for real cane duties rather than as a weapon at the moment, but made to try and lunge for Cor, swinging the thing like a bat.

His aim had been off, so he couldn't get the Lieutenant to land with both feet in the trash can, and he couldn't decide if what happened was better or worse in terms of buying him time. It was worse in terms of allowing him to escape, but better in terms being a clever way to make a Negaverse agent feel the pain. Even so, he hadn't gotten much time at all, and the Lieutenant was ready to give him a solid caning. Cor jumped back, holding the lid of the trashcan up like a shield in case the backstep wasn't enough. He thought he managed to dodge it, though, so with a shout, he chucked the lid at Crocoite and took off again, trying to keep an eye out for more improvised weapons as he ran away.
