Kaimi was out and about as early as possible today, wanting to get to work as swiftly as possible. He felt as though he was making progress and might be getting closer to his goal. It was exciting just thinking about it but at the same time he wasn't going to let that excitement cause him to get ahead of himself. He still had a lot to do before he was able to reach his first goal after all and that meant forcing himself to focus no matter what.
After taking a few breaths that forced him to focus forward he continued to swim at a quickened pace. He'd see about getting himself something to eat while he was still in town and then he'd go out digging after all. If he was lucky maybe he'd see one of his friends in town and he'd be able to invite them to breakfast. If not then it would just mean that he'd get to work faster. He was good either way.

Balhira was preparing the head home from the market, having found what she needed and just wanting to get back to her home. She was itching to make more glass, to get back into the swing of things and forget the interaction with the family she had met earlier in her trip. Before she left, however, she needed to get some food so she could get as far as she needed before her first stop. As she headed over to the local eatery, she ignored most of the looks sent her way, considering she was a stranger in the village. Instead, she settled in and tried to find someone who she could order for (some for now, and some for later).

Kaimi was swimming along at a quickened pace. It wasn't his favorite stroke that he used when he was was really trying to get about in a speedy manner. That one wasn't good for when there were a lot of people around since he didn't want to go crashing into others or anything. His eyes scanned the booths that he went by, looking for some simple food that was easy to get his hands on, as well as easy for carrying around. Having enough to eat for both breakfast and some later for lunch would be nice as well.
As he looked forward again, not having found what he was looking for, he had to give a rapid motion with his arms and legs so that he'd go up and over the on in front of him. Once he'd done that, having avoided her, he whirled around and said, "Sorry! Sorry! One would think I'd stop doing that." How many time was he going to nearly bump into people because he was in a hurry? Maybe he should limit himself to a slow, sedate paddle when he was around others he thought to himself, not wanting to risk running others over.

The pulse of the water was what alerted her of the other coming her way, and she staggered a bit even though he was able to miss her. Turning her head sharply, she looked with wide eyes at Kaimi as he apologized, wondering her luck with interacting with another social Menehune. Swallowing, she just starred, uncertain on what she needed to say and instead taking a moment to look him over and take it in. Another one around her age, with long flowing dark hair and a bit of a goofy look on his face. But at least he seemed like he had a place to go, and maybe wasn't as lazy as the last one she met.
"No worries..." She said after catching herself, realizing that she was not saying anything and just looking him over. Shaking her head slowly, she wasn't sure what he meant by stop doing that, but shrugged it off, "I was probably in the way."

Kaimi gave a sigh of relief, glad that the one he'd almost crashed into was alright. He hadn't thought that he'd bumped into her in any way but that doesn't mean that he wasn't still worried about her, maybe more that he'd bothered her then harmed her. That she said 'no worries' helped him to relax a bit. Good, so she was both alright and not upset with him, good. Last thing he wanted was to accidentally pick a fight with someone because he hadn't been paying attention.
"Huh? Oh! No, no! Definitely not in the way. I wasn't paying nearly enough attention to where I was going. I was scanning for food as I swam." Not a safe way to go about things to be sure. Giving her a smile he said, "I do apologize."

Balhira shifted a bit in the silence between the two, it feeling longer than the quick second before he began to speak up again. He was quite wordy, and the girl was put off by running into another Menehune who talked non stop. She was used to the calmer ones back home, a little bit slower due to their nature of being set in their ways. Maybe it was the 'big city' life around here, or the river culture bleeding through. Or maybe, probably, it was the fact she really didn't get out much anymore.
"I was also looking for food..." she said honestly, glancing about and shrugging again, "No need to apologize, I'm not hurt. Do you happen to know a place to eat around here?"

Kaimi gave a bit of a smile when she said she was also looking forward food, wondering if that meant that she might know about some good places to pick up something quick. When she asked the question that he'd been thinking about he found himself shaking his head, "No, but I am sure that between the two of us that we could probably find somewhere to go." A thought that made him smile if only because eating his meal with someone would be better then having to do so alone.
"If you want to team up that is." No reason to force the girl to tag along with him but he felt that he might as well invite her since the two of them were after the same thing.

His optimism was startling, and Balhira found herself naturally relaxing around the boy just a little. It was easy to take on his cheerfulness because it wasn't overwhelming, and he did apologize right away. She could appreciate someone who respected others and had manners. When he smiled, the edge of her lips lifted slightly too, and she felt drawn in enough to nod in agreement. A little company before her long journey home wouldn't be too bad, and maybe he had some experience with a skill she could relate to.
"Sure, I'm not familiar with this side of the swamp...most of what we cook back home is smoked..." Since, naturally, those who burned glass also burned other meals as well. It was slightly less common here, with most of the homes starting to shift a bit under the water.

"There are a lot of good, sweet plants to be hand that I am a fan of." It meant finding someone that gathered those particular plants though and had them currently up for trade. There were a few other things that were good to eat in the area as well that one could just eat raw too. He'd do his best to help to find such things so that she could enjoy what she had while she was in the area. He'd rather she went home with good memories about at least the food, maybe more.
"There are some different sorts of fruit that people gather as well and bring here to trade that are really good as well." He said as he glanced around, hoping that they would be up for grabs, "Some care be eaten as is but others need to have the skinned peeled off making them a bit more work. It's worth it though since they are both sweet and sour all at once."

Sweet plants? Seemed like something that was a bit more of a river thing. Sure, there were plants to gather in the swamps, but most preferred to dig their hands deep in the waters and grab the wriggling creatures that sunk deep in the mud. Balhira was open to the experience, and it seemed something simple they could find from the vendors who sold food. She had some glass beads she could barter with to get some food, and they were good enough quality to get some meals.
As he continued to explain the process, Balhira felt a little sheepish. She wasn't normally used to such things, and while she had confidence this was something she just was clueless about. So, as he continued to speak on, she simply smiled sheepishly.
"That all sounds good, I'll trust your word on it...it sounds like you've had a lot of these fruits before...oh, I don't quite know your name...I'm Balhira..."
Gosh, how could she have forgotten that?

"Not too often, a friend showed me where I could find some things growing. The rest was mostly through trading with the various merchants. I'm guessing they have their ways... something I'd like to learn since I am out and about in the wild a lot." He was sure that they wouldn't sure all of their secrets with him though since that would mean one less customer to trade with he thought to himself.
Giving a smile as the girl in front of him introduced herself he said, "Oh! Heh, sorry about that. I forgot all about introductions. My name is Kaimi, it's very nice to meet you!" He'd been so happy to just start chatting with her that he'd forgotten all about such things as simple introductions. He told himself that he'd have to be more careful about such things next time he ran into someone... or almost ran into them, whatever the case may be.
Motioning to Balhira he lead the way along, seeking out a merchant that might be trading for the plants that he'd had in the past. Once he'd spent more time in the area he'd be better at taking the lead. Until then it was a bit of searching and hoping for the best, similar to what he did when it came to seeking out crystals.

She nodded. It made sense that he wanted to do his own trades, especially if he was a traveler. For her, it was about establishing a base of operations, and trading with those who made their way through her village. Being in a different settlement, without her comfort zone safe and around her, caused her to feel like a lost fish in the marshland mazes. "Nice to meet you too, Kaimi." She said softly in response, repeating his name to try and remember it to the best of her ability. Sometimes it was hard for her to keep track of those around her, and it seemed worth getting to know a traveler like Kaimi in case he ever came back through her home in the future.
Following diligently along, she glanced about at the scenery and the vendors, taking it in slowly and comparing it to her own home. It seemed they were both looking around, and after it was clear that it wasn't a quick find, she turned back to Kaimi, "What are you doing out in the wilds...are you a hunter?" He didn't seem to be a land crawler, but one could never really tell.

"Hunter? No, not me. I am into salvage! With the blessing of Uukai I am able to find all manner of crystals that I trade for whatever I might need." Or he held them back because he wanted to move one day and that would involve a lot in the way of crystals to offer.
Giving a smile he said, "It's a fun job! I also find other things that are good for trading though nothing I've found so far is quite as valuable without a lot of extra work on my part."He wanted to learn to actually use the materials he found to make other things, jewelry and other accessories, that would make them more valuable. That would have to wait until after he moved out and had the time to sit around and learn such skills.
"Ah! There we go, that lady has some really good looking plants for trade. I will see what I can trade for and share my haul with you. That way if you're not a fan you didn't have to spend anything on it."

"Salvage, but what value is there to salvaging..." she spoke without much inflection, genuinely confused even if her blunt question might have come off as harsh. She wasn't judging, per say, but merely trying to calculate the value of a salvage bringing back their findings to the village. Sure, there was worth in it, but why would someone want to do it. But then again, crystals were interesting, natural glass that many preferred outside of her own village.
As he continued to speak and answer her question while she asked it, Balhira nodded slowly, "Ah, I see. I understand there is some natural beauty in this world that many would want, although I prefer to sculpt the beauty myself...as I am learning still how to make glass."
Nodding, she knew that their arts were similar enough, if not a bit of a competition, "I would like to see if you have found anything interesting. I may not have value in my own glass, but there is beauty in the simple things too."
She trailed off as he pointed out the woman with the plants for trade, and pulled out her own glass beads, "No worries, I've got enough to cover a trade or two." She knew the shimmering glass balls from her village trade were rarer out here, so she could bargain a bit.

Kaimi turned to glance over at Balhira as she asked what value there was in his job. He blinked a couple times then said, "Well, I find a lot of things that I trade to those that what it but don't have the time to go digging." He supposed that the blessing he had for the Swamp Goddess also helped when it came to finding the various jewels that he made his living with since he was quite young.
Giving a smile he asked, "You make glass? That sound pretty interesting. I've only seen a little bit of it here and there. I bet it's quite useful to have around huh?" He wondered if he should see about trading for some glass containers in the future. It would help when it came to sorting things that he wanted to be able to see through their containers. Baskets were useful but the glass containers always looked fancier somehow.
"I have a few things with me, though my favorite is this one." He fished out the green crystal from where it was tucked into his shirt, now made into a simple necklace that hung around his neck along with the seashell one. He showed it to Balhira and said, "I found this one while digging on a reed farm that belongs to my friend and his family."
As she got out one of the glass beads he leaned in closer to get a look at it, "That is quite pretty." It had a similar, flashy nature to his crystals, which made him rather like it. He bet a piece made of crystal and glass would be quite lovely indeed. Maybe a big crystal accompanied by the glass beads? Something to think about collaborating on in the future he thought to himself as he turned to look at the plants, trying to decide which ones he wanted to trade for.
