Everyone in Haukea had been watching the storm clouds over the land for months now. While they hadn’t felt the rains like they were sure the Freshwater Ones had, they did have the occasional storm or two pass through. It was only when the clouds finally broke and their own waters had been noticeably fuller from the run off that the people of Haukea decided it was time to go investigate. Who knew what they would find at the river’s end now? Who even knew if the Freshwater Ones had even made it through all these hundreds of years.

[This child has heard all of the commotion of investigating the until recently dried up river. Some are sure they’ll find their freshwater neighbors there, others are sure they couldn’t have made it after all this time. What does this little one think? Will there be people to see? Would they even want to meet them? What were they doing when they heard the news/rumors? Do they go, or will they wait in town until things are less mysterious?]

Even those in the deep sea had heard of the news that the rains had been pouring on the mainland. There were rumors that the Freshwater Ones would soon be able to contact them down in Ka’lei and in Haukea. The adults in the area were starting to coordinate a group to go together to Haukea and try to see what they could see. Some weren’t fond of the idea, thinking it was a long trip and a waste of resources that wouldn’t otherwise be used up if it weren’t for what they thought were pure rumors.

Or maybe they’re bored already and don’t care if they meet their long lost mainland neighbors? What are their feelings and thoughts?]

It was floating all around the waters lately: who were the Freshwater Ones that everyone kept talking about? These long lost neighbors that no one had seen in over two hundred years was all anyone could concentrate on lately. What did they look like? How did they survive the drought? How do they live? The questions continued on and on. It wouldn’t be long before all of the questions they had could be answered, but still it was something to stir up the gossip in the meantime.
