The last burst of glowing daylight receded behind a mall on the outskirts of the city. Another summer night rolled in after, a lazy, late dusk. More importantly, closing time for weekday shopping. It certainly didn't feel that late! Being midweek, not many cars remained besides those of lingering shoppers and the people working at the mall proper.
Dione emerged as one of the scattered few patrons, into fresh night. Even with the bright lights behind her and standing vigilant in the parking lot, the emptiness felt a bit eerie.
Across the street sat a strip of small businesses and fast food joints hoping to take a cut of the attention the mall drew in. Di herself was contemplating a drive-through run before going home. If the mall was quiet, though, the stores nearby would be even quieter.
Who knew what might be lurking among the vestibules of civilization in that roomy emptiness.

Lace had been minding her own business the evening, in fact, she had only been hunting for her second favorite thing. Shiny, glimmery glittery things. The kitten had been dragging a long something that looked like a very expensive shiny diamond necklace (probably fake) and had almost made it to her very secret hiding spot when the youma saw her.
"N...N...No!" She took off at full speed as the much BIGGER raven like youma flew after her, cawing at her and demanding her shiny but it WAS HER SHINY and she earned it in the shop area and.
She was running as fast as she could, the necklace almost tripping her until it actually did and she rolled to a stop in front of a woman with pink hair in the parking lot. A small meow escaped from pain.
Di walked along, some bags in-hand. She heard something nearby, what might be a yell, but she wasn't sure. There wasn't anyone around for that...
Out of the spotty dark, suddenly, appeared a tiny dark figure, as if it had separated from the surrounding night. At the noise it made, though, Di immediately knew what it was before her eyes focused. She looked up, and squinted, seeing another figure coming towards them. Some...thing. Why did this situation feel familiar? Of a monster attacking? She couldn't put a finger on it. There was no time. Dione scooped up the cat and started to run towards her car, calling out breathlessly for help as she did.

Lace made a even more smaller meow as she was scooped up, her necklace almost escaping from her teeth. She felt it loosen and drop, a small cry of sadness escape as she tried to stretch her foot out to catch it.
She just got it in time as she was bundled up in the pink haired woman's arms, cradled close to the chest and she felt something. It was a deep resounding call that guardians knew.
The potential of the woman was there, it just need some sort of awakening. If she could be put down...after the whole youma escapade, she could reach one of the generals to awaken her. Perhaps even her papa Carnelian or her Seraphanite.
Well that was....if they survived the youma's attack. Small eyes peeked from the arms that held her as she saw they were making their way to the car. It totally escaped the kitten that she could probably laser beam the youma but....she was still not good with the laser beams.
Acubens had not been out for long. As twilight dwindled into the night, pastel fingers of the sky deepening into shades of jewel and pitch, Acubens began her daily quota. Granted, she prided herself on being about a week ahead of schedule, but that didn't mean that she was afforded a break. She was still very unsure and skeptical of the new space that Mirrorspace had provided them, despite all of her excitement over creating something new. She knew that energy kept the whole thing running and she'd be damned if she didn't pull double -- triple her weight to keep it going.
They were so close to finding their home.
Acubens could feel it.
It was like they'd been sprinting for years and no they could see something on the horizon, and they weren't sure what it was just yet but it looked a hell of a lot like a finish line.
Maybe when they found a new home, they could even shed their dependence on chaos.
Maybe.
A scream cut through Acubens' musing. A cry for help. A sound she had not heard nor heeded in a long while. Not since...
Her legs carried her on their own while she worked to push the memories of another life from her mind. She followed the echoes of the screams and then after that the acrid and electrical feeling of the youma that prompted it. As though she needed more reason to avoid the negaverse...
She arrived on the scene to see a pink-haired girl escaping with a kitten in her arms and giving chase was a rather large raven. With Acubens right perfectly between them. Seeing someone between it and it's pray, the youma let out an ear-splitting sceam and seemed to scrape the ground with its massive claws. Acubens screamed back, lowering herself into a starting position, falling back into old running habits. She kept her body low and straight as an arrow. The youma watched and continued to writhe and scream, angrier it seemed because Acubens refused to show fear or give ground.
When it charged, Acubens did the same, the name of her attack slipping from her lips with practiced ease.
Acubens impacted the youma with every sharp edge and pointed corner she had on her body. Shoulders and elbows and knees and nails. It paid her the same kindness, digging its beak into her shoulder hard enough to break the skin. While Accubens could feel the warmth of her bleeding, she had no way to tell how bad the injury was until the fight was done. And even then there was the business of checking up on the girl and her kitten, which Acubens only did once the youma vanished into a pile of dust on the ground.
"Hey... Are you okay? I hope that thing didn't end up hurting you or that precious little thing in your arms. I'd feel terrible if I showed up too late."
She smiled easily despite herself and her injury which she didn't seem to notice at that time. She'd slide into an e-clinic when this was all done and get it patched up no worries. Gods knew she'd had worse.
Super Sailor Scout Attack: Velociraptor Agility Type Offensive Duration and Timing The charge lasts five seconds. She can use this attack once every three minutes, and can only attack twice, with just enough energy left over for a Velociraptor Dash after a five minute charging period. Uses A power up of her first attack, Acubens now is able to get up to cheetah speed. Besides that, however, he is also a great deal more agile. She can now turn, for instance, and while it may not be on a dime, at least she can change direction. She can also stop sooner and without having to run into things. Drawbacks Because the turns are still pretty sloppy, it's still pretty easy to dodge Micah's attack. It's still also pretty hard to stop, so Acubens might actually end up running into something while she is trying to do so.

As Dione continued to run, somehow she knew the monster was gaining on them. The goal was to get to her car, unlock it despite occupied arms, get in, have the time to start it up and peel out...
Now she knew what it was like to be in a slasher movie.
Hope started to stretch thin. Di turned her head to look back. Instead of a pitch-dark abomination mere inches from her, instead she caught sight of another person. Someone between them. All black, a mix of goth and punk. Di opened her mouth to tell them to get out of the way, but words failed her as the ringlet-haired person instead engaged in combat. Not long after, suddenly the monster was...gone.
Di blinked as she was addressed. She was utterly stunned. "I... I..." This situation felt quite familiar. Like the previous times she was saved unexpectedly, but not to this degree. Right? And something about the person before her looked familiar. Not like someone she met before, but something about the uniform... Fighting in heels, a collar like that...
She looked down at the cat in her arms. Not that she really knew how to hold a cat right, since her dad was allergic, but. She did her best.
Lace's head immediately popped up as they were joined by a curly haired senshi clad in the dark mirror's babydoll and black wings. The eternal aura made the kitten meow in joy as she faced the youma and even though Lace was a nega's kitty, she didn't like the stupid youma for chasing her anyways.
Once it was dusted, she adjusted in the pink haired woman's arms. She didn't want to startle the woman so a paw came up to touch the woman's chest and a soft meow to make sure she was okay before she spoke.
"Are....Are you okay?" The kitten said to the pink haired rescuer. "Than...Thank you for saving me....It was...It wanted my neck...necklace." The kitten's head turned to the dark mirror. "He...Hello Dark...Dark Mirror...Mistress!"

The cat talked. The cat talked? The cat...talked. Its mouth moved and words came out. Dione's heart was not even done racing after the monster attack. At this rate, it might just explode.
The cat addressed the 'mistress' before them, so Dione looked at her with wide, wide eyes. Was she seeing this too?!
The cat spoke and Acubens beamed at her. So she was a guardian cat as well? Oh of course she was. Aubens pulled the bag of treats that she kept for Katya out of subspace and held out a good chunk of them for her.
"You're necklace," Acubens looked behind her, searching for a sparkle or something... maybe in the dust? "Well, we'll just have to see if we can't find it again. Or else get you another, huh?" she winked at the feline. "And call me Acubens, please," she offered warmly. "Given what we went through just now, I think we're on first name basis now. And who might you and your senshi be?" Acubens turned her eyes towards the girl holding the cat. "Given the fact that your little kitty here is glad to see me, you must -- "
The girl's expression cut Acubens off. If Acubens was reading her face correctly, then this was not only not her cat but also not a powered individual of any kind. Acubens straightened and blinked, shocked that the girl was unaware of what she was holding.
"Oh dear," Acubens finally sighed, tucking the bag of treats back into subspace. "You're not chaos or order, are you? Oh, well then you might have a lot of questions. Maybe little kitten here and I can answer them for you?"

Lace's licked Dione's hand, and then pressed a small paw to it. "I'm so...sorry. I don't mean...mean to sh...shock you after what....what happened." The kitten was everything regretful and she wiggled in the arms.
At the offer of treats, Lace took only a few because she preferred sweets like candy and cupcakes but wouldn't turn down anyone's good will! It also helped her calm down after the attack.
"We....we could...get...another." She, for all the kitten could muster, smiled at the raptor senshi. There was an awkward moment before Acubens spoke and the kitten agreed.
"Sh...She has potential!" The kitten perked up, "If...If you wanted....Mistress of the dark mirrors!"
Dione struggled to believe that she was awake. But after recent other weird stuff... She couldn't dismiss it as some fantasy she'd wake up from eventually.
Potential... Chaos and order... Senshi... Mirrors?
"Um." Di's head swirled. She had many questions, but they all melted together in a single word: What.
"This is...sure a whole lot right now. Uh." Di adjusted how she held Lace to be able to raise a hand to rub at her own face. She let out an awkward, stressed chuckle. "Hooo boy." She wanted to sit down, actually. Monster attacks, talking cats, women fighting off bad things while in heels... And that was just the little that she could kind of process!
"Can...can all cats talk?" Maybe a weird place to start, but it was definitely more specific than the all-encompassing question she had in mind.
Though, one other major thing did stick out, that concerned her a little.
"And, uh, what potential're you talkin' about, little thang?" Talking to a cat and expecting a response...so weird.

At the mention of potential, Acubens perked up just the same way that the kitten in the young woman's arms had. She knew exactly what she was talking about, and Acubens had to physically stop herself from bouncing from the excitement. Another dark mirror. They were so few and Acubens did love them all so dearly. And to be involved in awakenings and growths was Acubens' very favorite thing in the whole world. To be there when someone saw the world through suddenly different eyes... it was transfixing.
But it wasn't about her. It was about this young lady who was clearly overwhelmed. Acubens looked around for a seat and pointed to a bench about thirty feet away.
"Why don't you go ahead and have a sit-down, love. You look like you're about to lose it. While you're sitting I'll answer all of your questions and explain as much as I can." She led the way, careful not to move too far ahead of the poor girl. When she did take a seat, she left plenty of room for both the girl and the cat to sit independently.
"Let's start with some introductions. I am Sailor Acubens, senshi of Velociraptors. And yes, some cats can talk. But they are a special kind of cat called guardian cats, who can sense people like you and me. People who have the potential to become... this." Acubens gestured to herself with a smile. "They help us train, give us information and much-needed tech. And companionship in some cases."
