It was so depressing she thought, reading the invitation to be a bridesmaid at another friend's wedding. Not because she was a bridesmaid and not the bride, but because soon this friend too would become too busy to spend time with her, just like the three before them. What was compelling all of her friends to get hitched all of a sudden? Was there some switch expected to flip over in her brain that would make her suddenly crave domesticity and routine?
She wanted to tear up the invitation, but what good would that do? Her friend would still get married, and she wouldn't be there to be happy for them. She was happy for them, at least. It was good for them to find what made them happy, it was just saddening that they preferred one person to all of their friends.
But that seemed to be the rule of marriage if what had happened with everyone else was any indication. You got married, and suddenly your significant other was your entire world and you had no time for anyone else. She simply didn't understand it. Maybe if she ever found The One she would get it and at this rate she had to hurry up and find them before she was left entirely alone. Better to have one friend than none at all.

'No... not another one.'
The sound of paper slightly crinkling filled the otherwise silent room as her hands involuntarily bunched around the parchment in her grasp. Another invitation, beautifully written, seemingly by hand, with a pair of signatures at the bottom. The envelope was just as ornate, with gold leaf filigree decorating the edges, and a beautiful dark wax seal, already popped open. The presentation was immaculate--obviously well planned out, like the event detailed inside surely would be as well.
Her eyes slowly scanned over the invitation once again, then a second and third time after that. She couldn't seem to focus on the actual details inside--the date, location, time, it was all a blurr, her mind too focused on her own thoughts.
'I don't think I can go to another wedding. I don't want to go to another wedding. Why do they all get to be happy while...' she thought to herself, jaw tightening as her wings furled around her, hands finally releasing their vice grip on the once-beautiful parchment, letting it drop to her lap. Her gaze lifted, turning slowly towards her bedside table just beside her, eyes scanning slowly over a small framed picture that kept her company. The Fallen swallowed thickly, jaw finally unclenching as she reached out, gently taking the frame in her grasp, pulling it closer so she could get a better look.
She was in the picture, though she wasn't alone. Beside her, holding her tight in a loving hug, was another Fallen. She didn't look similar enough to be related--in fact, she looked completely different. Dark, near-black hair, pale skin, blue and green feathers, and beautiful bright eyes filled with life.
Looking at the picture brought her so much happiness, but just as much sadness everytime she looked at it.
'If only I'd known then about her sickness... maybe we would be the ones designing beautiful invitations and planning our wedding...'
Everytime she looked at the picture, that very same thought ran through her mind. This time was no different. Her eyes eventually downcast, head hanging as she gently lowered the frame into her lap, covering the invitation with it. It was hard to be happy for your friends when your own happiness had been ripped from your grasp.
'It's been six years. She would want you to move on, you know. Are you going to be like this everytime one of your friends gets married?'
She let out a soft sigh, head shaking as she slowly moved to place the picture back on her bedside table, gently folding the invitation in her lap to slip it back into the envelope.
"I'm just... not ready to move on yet," she admitted aloud, as if there were someone there to hear her words. There was a long moment of silence that followed, before finally she shifted, a dim smile eventually appearing on her lips.
'It's alright. If anything, going to another wedding will give me a chance to wear that dress you bought for me. The white one with the pretty purple flowers on it that you said matched my hair.'

Fayre gave a small yawn as she got started with her morning routine. She'd set her alarm early, she had some errands to run, and wanted time to get ready. The fallen wore a gentle, if not jovial smile on her lips as she quietly slipped outside. The air was still cool, and the skies above while patched with white clouds, already looked like it would be a beautiful day. Her wings stretched in the outdoor space, before neatly tucking behind her back in their usual resting place. A lightness about her was evident as she moved. While she didn't have a lover, or any children of her own she was full of life. Fayre simply matched her namesake, and lived each day to it's fullest.
Of course the reasoning for being outside was simple enough. Fayre was off to check the mail. Her familiar, Mabel had gone to check the mail early that morning. She recalled a dear friend of hers mentioning to keep an eye out for mail delivery! With that in mind, she had done just that, and checked it at least once a day. Thus far, nothing had arrived. However, Fayre was patient, and didn't mind the wait.
Whatever was being sent to her, would arrive when it was meant to.
The thought made her tap her chin in consideration. Her friends meant the world to her, but Fayre would be lying if she wasn't curious! The other refused to tell her over the phone what would be in the mail. She knew the wedding was soon, but no date had been set. Maybe there was something else going on? The thought made her all the more curious, even as she wandered to her mailbox. A little excited flutter of her heart accompanied her eyes lighting up. Ah! She quickly made note of the fact the flag was up on her mailbox!
Fayre had to reminded herself that she couldn't get to excited yet...she had no idea what was inside after all. Having a little chuckle at her own expense, she went back inside to go sit at the table. Mabel jumped up into her owners lap, curling up in a ball as the Vespercat relaxed. Reaching for the letter, Fayre carefully opened it. Her eyes fell on what appeared to be a gorgeously crafted...Wedding Invitation?! So it was finally official, this was amazing news. She couldn't wait to go! Fayre would be there without question to provide her love and support. She gasped in delight, her wings shifted in a restless manner from her excitement.
Mabel's eye creaked open, looking up at her owner, sulking from the sudden outburst. Before long, they were going back to resting.
The Save the Date in fancy cursive writing was the included date, and planned venue. Fayre felt her heart racing again, this time from joy. She was extremely excited to receive such news! "Mabel! Can you believe it?" Fayre asked of her familiar, positively radiating. This was the 2nd friend to settle down, and she was pleased her friends had found such special people. Oooh! Fayre needed a wedding present now too! She would have to get them a blender..or maybe a mixer was better? So many ideas began to come to mind, leading Fayre to look lost in thought. Fayre's smile was gentle as she sighed softly, absolutely thrilled for her friend all in all. She couldn't wait to attend!

Melissa woke up with a frown on her face. It was far too early for this whole being awake thing. Her hair wild and tangled, she'd gotten rained on her way home and crashed when she got into her room. She'd barely gotten any sleep, her job had run late and it had taken her longer than normal to get home since a friend of hers just had to yack her ear off. Drained and cranky the fallen girl grumbled as she rolled back over curling her legs against her body as she sighed. "Why is the sun up? Ugh noo..." Mel grumbled in a vain attempt to hold onto her time being able to rest.
She didn't want to be awake yet, her alarm hadn't even gone off yet.
All this talk about Weddings had gotten under Mel's skin, so much, in fact, she was downright sick and tired of getting invited. An artistic lacey designed invitation sat on her nightstand, crumpled up and like she had started to rip it in half...but stopped. These were the same people that were there for her when she, was once legally Marcel, and a He.
Acting out, and throwing a tantrum like this was completely childish. Yet, it was hard not to be jealous or irritated! She kept running into scenarios where all her Academy day friends kept showing up out of the woodworks to tell her how happy they were. She thought the topic was boring, and it simply put her to sleep. In reality, Melissa used this as a deflection to try and have an outlet for her emotions.
However, she was a good friend to those she cared for and would listen to them any day. Even if internally she was rolling her eyes as they would gush about their partner, endless. It must be nice. Melissa scowled, considering she was alone in her one bedroom apartment. That wasn't anyone's fault but her own, and the lack of noteworthy dates...but that didn't make her any less crabby. She didn't have the luxury to take off days from her job whenever, but how she guessed she had to! Melissa knew logically she was being bratty, but at least it was in the privacy of her own room.
Growling, Melissa pulled the covers over her head. At least that was until she felt a little plunk on the bed. Peeking from the covers, her foul expression was much softer as she gazed at her purple and white Vespercat. "Lila..come here girl.." She murmured reaching out and gently hugging her close, nuzzling her cheek against the feline. Closing her eyes she listened to the sound of the creatures purring to distract herself. Melissa would go and put on a happy face because anything less was childish and bitchy. She was her friend's bridesmaid..she wouldn't make this about her, when it wasn't.
One day her own fairy tale dreams would come true..she'd meet a nice girl or boy. She just had to be patient, something she wasn't very good at doing.

Vera drew in a deep breath as she checked her dress to make sure it was perfect. She smoothed out a few wrinkles and eyed herself in the mirror to make sure everything was perfect. This was the fourth time being in this position. She couldn't help but be happy for all her friends, but there was a part of her that was also fiercely jealous. Last year around this time she had just gotten out of a very serious relationship, one that she thought would last. She had even been planning the wedding when her partner left. It had been something that had shaken her to her core and since then she hadn't had a single relationship, a few dates maybe, but nothing that she could call exclusive.
Maybe that was why this hurt so much. She had imagined her own wedding since she was a freshling, every detail, even down to the flowers. So when she heard that her friend was using the same flower arrangement she had always talked about, it had sent a wide range of feelings that had caused her to nearly reject her friend's invitation. In the end, however, her loyalty won out and she decided that today was about her friend, not her hurt feelings.
That hadn't made things any easier, in a way it had actually made it harder. Seeing all the happy people, all the emotions, all the people that had come to celebrate with her friend had made her nearly unable to hold back her own tears. It hadn't helped when she heard that her ex would also be there since her friend had never stopped being kind to them. She felt betrayed, but she had already accepted the position of being a bridesmaid and didn't think it would be right for her to reject it now.
All of these feelings were making her feel very apprehensive about the whole prospect. It didn't help that she was already lonely and had wanted to marry since she could remember, but all of this... it made her feel completely alone. Like she was battling some war that no one knew or cared about and all she could do was hide or her feelings might burst. Today was supposed to be about her friend, not her problems.

Thank you everyone for participating in my first game. I hope you all had a lot of fun as did reading through everyone's entries. Its been extremely hard to choose as you all did such an amazing job with your entries. But there can only be one winner. Your entry was both tragic and uplifting. My heart dropped upon understanding their emotions, but their resolve to carry on despite the pain was what won me over. Your entry felt like a complete chapter into their mind and I hope that some day this character will be able to move on into a happier future. Thank you it was a pleasure to read. As a thank you for everyone who participated I would like for you to all take home this familiar made by our very own -Mynsed- based off of pastel bridesmate dresses.
