Name: Hellon (or H'lon)
Age: 20
Sex: Male
Sexual Orientation: Unsure
Craft: No Craft
Rank: Candidate
Location: High Reaches Weyr

Physical Description: Long tightly bound sandy blonde hair, tanned skin, and hard, cold blue eyes. Hellon carries himself with perfect, almost-rigid posture. Never over expressing himself, never gallivanting, he is proper in his bearing at all times. Life at the Weyr is a serious business, and it's clear he treats it as such in every detail of his style. Well-made clothing cut to respectable (if not flattering) styles, strong boots, and never a single flyaway hair. If he was dropped into a military base on Earth, he might just need a haircut to fit right in.

Personality: Always feeling that there's always someone watching him, that his every move mattered, and that relays something about who he is to the world at large. Hellon cares immensely what the world thinks of him, and was brought up to always be in control of himself so as to present the best, or was believed to be the correct image. A firm sense of self-control has been his strongest aid through life so far, and he cannot help but look in askance at anyone who lacks that sort of discipline. How could you act that way, what is wrong with you? The feelings of others come second to how they are perceived—if people didn't want to be judged, they wouldn't do things that merited judgement.

He has his principles, whatever they may be, and he clings to them with both hands. The core of a person's being should always be iron-wrought, a bastion against all outside forces. Of course...no one else really needs to know just what those principles are. He'll stick to his guns regardless, and by not backing down, that just proves that his convictions are stronger, and thereby right. Although, unknown to his family, he wishes for that little bit of freedom to express himself that he knows will never happen in his tiny, backwards Hold.

Positive Trait List Disciplined, principled, dedicated
Negative Trait List Secretive, harsh, cold

History: Hellon was one of several children born to a couple in a tiny, barely-there Hold on the far edge of the southern continent. The Hold was a bastion of traditional living, firmly-established gender roles, a stone-hard hierarchy of ranks, and no room for deviation. Such lessons were drilled in from an early age, and the example being made of his older sibling, a child neither male or female, was a potent one. The whole of his family resented anything different, anything unnatural. Even dragonriders were suspect, their "wanton" sexuality and lack of strict gender/rank structure in many Weyrs being...unnerving. It was also demanding of respect, as the idea of riders being the heroes of Pern (as long as they were over there and not in the Hold!) was also part of his traditional upbringing.

His parents almost considered it a relief when their problem child was searched. Send the deviant to live with the deviants, and at least some good might come of it. And life for Hellon and his Hold continued on, the balance restored and free of worries. Until, that is, news that their child, who had gone on to impress a brown (almost enough to garner them some respect, almost), had left the Weyr, fleeing into the wilds of Pern and casting off all ties and duties. This, of course, was perceived by the family as a major failing, and the strict yoke of responsibility and upstanding behavior came down all the harder for it on Hellon and his other siblings.

Turns later, another searchrider came to his tiny Hold—this time from the much more respectable High Reaches Weyr. Thread had begun to fall again, and the old ways had returned, tithing, fighting, and standing to impress for any eligible youngster. And this time, the rider came for Hellon. His father made it very clear that this was not an opportunity to be missed, and that his duty was to repair the damage done by Saed's reckless, deviant nature, and to take their place as a proper rider in a proper Weyr.

And for Hellon, whether it was duty and tradition that urged him to accept, or the tiny, flickering light of looking for a way out of the backwards mentality they've come from, only he would know. Although, he mostly went with the second when he decided to accept.

Other: As time will go by while he's at the Weyr, he will gradually begin to loosen up once he realizes that no one really cares about who he is as a person, just his duty to the Weyr.
