Name: Faranie Age: 28 turns. Sex: Female. Sexual Orientation: Up to you! Craft: Up to you! Rank: Aged-out candidate (standidate) Location: High Reaches Weyr
Physical Description: Crystal blue eyes and golden hair, Faranie is a beauty. Or would be, if not for the touch of acidity in her glare, the resting b***h-face, and a generally angry, slighted demeanor. She's on the short side for a grown woman, barely 5'7", and that seems to only compound her waspish nature. She never quite gained the curves to make harpers write songs of her beauty, but there is a strength behind her sharp cheekbones and through that sharp, almost sprite-like nose.
She adores fine clothing and jewels, but saves the best for gather days, preferring heartily to keep work and pleasure separate. That means good quality but common clothing most days; dresses when she can, but trousers will do too in a pinch.
Personality: Faranie is a woman scorned. She grew up the favorite child, the capable child, the better child, but all for naught. Her one dream, to find the dragon meant for her, was denied to her, and she's been seething ever since. She has always had a knack for excelling at everything she does, has always been clever and intelligent enough to understand and master ideas with alacrity. Everything she's tried, she's done well at—except impressing a dragon.
The trouble with always being good at everything is that you don't know how to handle failure, and because it surely couldn't be you, the blame is aimed outwards. Such is the case with Faranie. She, of course, is perfect, so the world's the one that messed up. She holds a grudge close like a lover, unafraid to wait turns and turns for her revenge. She deserves the best, and has no trouble stepping on anyone in her way as she climbs to the peak. While Weyrwoman Faranie has become just a dream (or nightmare) now, there are other ladders to climb, and she has every intention of doing so. She'll gladly play content worker bee...just as long as it takes to find one or two good hands to help crush the queen bee.
Positive Trait List Intelligent, adroit, ambitious. Negative Trait List Vindictive, manipulative, cruel.
History: Faranie was born the younger daughter of a family of riders. Her mother, astride her lightning-swift green, could name her rider ancestry back past the ninth turn, and she was proud of that fact, despite her parents' increasing absence. Raised through her late childhood by her big brother Galavar, she was never quite able to forgive him for joining the ranks of the candidates, a place where she wasn't allowed to go too (for some turns at least). By the time she joined him on the sands, she'd grown bitter, and determined to outdo her brother for abandoning her like their parents had apparently done.
Turns passed, and her delight grew each time Galavar failed to impress. That'd teach him, she thought, for leaving her for no reason at all! But then he'd had the gall to impress a blue, once more leaving her behind. She aged out at 26, bitter and resentful. Thread's return offered her a convenient out, and she fled on dragon-back to High Reaches Weyr to start anew. The fact that her brother would no doubt mistakenly think she'd died to First Fall was something of a balm to her—she still felt that he deserved that much pain for daring to impress when she had not.
Two turns passed at High Reaches, and she's almost all but forgotten her roots in the south. Intentionally ignoring any news from Monaco, and thus unaware of her brother's transfer to Western, she's spent most of her time since plying her craft and eyeing up prominent riders for any chance to find a good stepping stone upwards.
Other: G'ar is certain she's dead, so he is making no effort to find her.
Adoptable Ad Faranie: 28 turns old. The younger, estranged sister of wingsecond G'ar of Western Weyr. Left their home of Monaco in bitter shame after she failed to impress before aging out. Sought a fresh start at High Reaches, where no one would know that she'd "failed". Possibly has a rider lover (especially a bronze or goldrider).
