He wasn't one for sleeping in anymore. Even with as late as they had ended up staying, around nine-thirty in the morning Brendan's inner clock chimed and gradually woke him up, to his immense annoyance. He had to take a piss and find some water, but he lingered for some minutes in bed, gaze unfocused, as he slowly remembered where he was and who he was with. And why. He shut his eyes and tried to will himself to sleep again, but the hangover had taken over in full then. Man, Past Brendan really hadn't cared about Future Brendan.

No, Past absolutely did, it argued. That was why he had asked her back home, after all.

Eventually he grew restless, and Brendan began to slowly extricate himself from the sheets. Gwen looked more at peace asleep--well, didn't everyone, really?--and he was loathe to wake her up early. But nor was he really one to just hit and quit: even as someone who avoided strings, Brendan's more courteous nature didn't let him leave without at least a quick conversation and a farewell. Thus, he decided to check the apartment out as quietly as he could, maybe make some coffee if she had the implements.

It was small, as he had expected, and kinda cozy. A bit trashed but, well, far be it from him to cast judgement. He had found the coffee pot and started to brew some for them when he noticed the food bowl. PET! PET!! But he hadn't seen hide or hair of one in his investigation...

"Here, uh," he glanced at the name as he whispered, "Reilly! Reilly girl! Reilly boy?" Nothing. Damn.

The bed shifted. The sound of a body moving across sheets or vice versa was barely registered to Gwen as Brenden removed himself from the comforts her bed gave. Having someone in her bed was no longer an odd thing. When she had first started her exploits the smallest movement from her bedmate would normally wake her up immediately to full awareness. That sense had slowly died over time. Now she barely took note of it and tended to let slumber retake her considering many of her bedroom olympics ended without either party being interested in dealing with the morning meet-and-greets.

So, Gwen rolled onto her side, taking sheets with her, red hair spilling over pillows and mattress alike as she intended to fall right back to sleep.

It was the sound of rustling in her kitchen and a loud whisper that brought her out of that dreamy state. Anxieties clutched at her chest and throat immediately as eyes snapped open. In a flurry of sheets, she was out of the bed, a black silk robe, wrinkled and unpolished, was grabbed from a pile on the floor and flung around her as she hurried out of the bedroom and into the kitchen.

And found herself staring at the red-head man she had picked up at the club last night searching for the implements to make the coffee machine work. She took a moment and leaned against the entrance to the room. Her heart was still pounding. Not everyone is as heartless as you and wanting quick fixes. The thought crossed her mind. Some actually care. She tried to quash it down and immediately thought of the bottle of pills sitting in her nightstand drawer.

Her willpower was beyond trashed.

"In the cupboard to your left there." She guided him to where he'd find the coffee. Arms wrapped around just under her chest as she tried, in vain, to calm herself down. What is he still doing here? Why hadn't he just left like all the others? Please don't tell me he's attached. I am not worth being attached to. So many rampant thoughts ran through her head along with self-rejecting ones.

"I am assuming that was you calling for Reilly? He's....he's not here right now. My brother has him at the moment. I just haven't cleaned up his things yet." Nor will you. You need that reminder that at least something in this world cared.

She pushed away from the framed entrance and walked over to a cabinet that held the mugs. With shaky hands, she pulled two out and placed them on the counter where she braced herself for a moment. The hangover was kicking in as the adrenaline began to fade and to top it off she knew she had taken a heavy dosage of her drugs last night before the club and that lack of high hurt.

"Oh!" He turned to her for a moment to say a cheerful, "Mornin, you," before opening the indicated cupboard. He sifted a decent amount in and turned the machine on. "Sorry about your dog, though. Guess I'll have to settle for just coffee to start the day off right." Hope you don't mind him making himself at home and all that. He was being nice and making enough for two after all.

Brendan hadn't caught it with his quick glance, but the shaky hands belied her state of mind as he turned and leaned on the counter to wait for their drinks. Gwen didn't quite look pale, but she seemed a little anxious. Maybe she wanted him out? Or the dog was a sore subject.

"I won't stick around long if you're not about that," he told her. "If I'm honest, it's just been a while, ahah, like I said yesterday." Not that that had anything to do with anything, but Brendan was trying to lighten the mood after his apparent faux pa, so he talked without thinking too hard about it. "Figured the least I could do is make sure our days started on the right foot afterwards. And coffee is definitely the way to go, in my opinion."

"I am not used to it, no." She remarked bluntly, pushing well tangled red hair out of her frame of vision as she looked up at him. "It's...not bad though." The only one who tended to do such things for her anymore was Darren, and even those were few and far between. He even tended to ghost out before the sun graced the city horizon. He has his reasons though. "I don't know if it will start the day off right for me but it should at least try and banish some of this hangover."

A forced smile as shoulders dropped from their stiffened state. "Reilly's in a better place right now. I don't have...I don't have the time to care for him right now and I'd rather not neglect him. He's been one of the few constants in my life and deserves to be happy." With mugs in hand she walked over and placed the two vessels on the counter near the coffee pot. The smell of fresh coffee wafted up from the opened can as Brendan deposited the ground substance into the coffee maker.

"May I say, you certainly didn't give the impression that you were rusty at all last night." She remarked with a glance in his direction before walking back towards the small table that was tucked near the wall. She let herself fall into one of three wooden chairs. "No worries on that part."

She adjusted her robe making sure it covered her as it was meant to. Fingers slid to the tie around her waist to make sure it was snug. Elbow shifted to the table as she rested her head upon hand. "It's so early." She remarked with bleary eyes. "Are you always an early riser?" Awkward small talk. This is what I've been driven to. Do I even know how to relax around other anymore? An internal scoff at herself as that admonishing voice continued. All it would take is a trip to the bedroom. He'd never even notice...

So the bad naggy feelings he'd gotten the night before weren't just a product of his totally virtuous yet guilty conscience. Awesome.

"Yeah, I picked the right hole and everything," Brendan agreed with a little grin and a lazy thumbs up. "Sorry again about waking you up, though. My body has its own alarm clock thanks to work. It's still tuning to real time again--normally it'd be jerking me awake around, like, six-thirty." Plus, well, they had been compromised.

But if Brendan thought the conversation was awkward small talk, he didn't show it. Everything socially tended to be at ease with him, and it showed in his posture and tone. The only thing that was awkward at all to him was the brush against Serious Territory, which he was quickly toeing around.

"S'a cozy place you got here," he said as the coffee began to pour out into the first mug. "Know if any spots opened up around here? I need to get away from my mom, ASAP."

"If if you hadn't..." She shrugged with a small, tired, devilish grin. She wasn't a picky bedmate when it came to 'picking the right hole' as to say. "You don't take compliments well, hm?" She said casually, breaking off her teasing tone.

And then he casually dropped a hint that she wasn't sure if he had done intentionally or not. Closing her eyes she thought for a moment about the prospect of living with another person again. It...wasn't the most appealing thing at the moment in her life, but... Eyes opened to glance at the growing pile of bills that sat on her table in a messy sprawl.

"In fact, I do." She remarked casually as she turned her attention back to him. "Right here." She shifted in the seat again as she leaned back against the chair instead of supporting her head in her hand. Her head thumped in response. "I've got a spare bedroom if you're interested." She paused a moment as if studying him before continuing. "I will warn you though, I keep rather odd hours and tend to have...guests." A brow rose. "If you can deal with that I am sure we could co-exist without too many problems."

"Unless you have some odd habits of your own that may be a deal breaker...assuming you want to stay here, of course."

Brendan's eyes lit up. He hadn't honestly expected to find an open room so easily, and frankly this was even considering he wasn't a picky person to begin with. Nevermind that they only had known each other for a night (somewhat), he was more than ready to get away from his family's immediate reach. It didn't really occur to him why she might have been alone in the first place.

"Hey, girl, you do you," he told her breezily as he grabbed their now readied coffee mugs and offered hers. "And some other times maybe you do me~? I'm not here to judge or make it messy."

Brendan raised his mug as if in a toast and, after blowing on it a little, began to drink deeply with a groan of satisfaction. "Long as you don't try inducting me in a cult or something, I'm an amazing roommate with a sick motorbike and some decent cooking skills, at your service."

A side grin graced the woman's face at Brendan's comment. Perhaps he wouldn't be so bad to have around. If nothing else he was a convenient bed partner who was rather amusing outside of their mattress olympics. A casual shrug of the shoulder as she took her mug from him, giving a tentative and regretted sip at the hot liquid.

"No cult involved." I wouldn't pull anyone into Knighthood anyway even if I could. "So you're fine there."

She placed the drink on the table. "How soon do you want to move in? I have no preference. I just need to pull a few things out of that second bedroom. So the sooner the better is fine."

"Sweet~"

He blew on his coffee some more and took a long gulp. "Mm, soon as you'll have me, honestly," Brendan told her. "Next week sound good? I gotta get some things together still." Tune his bike up some more, double check his work schedule, figure out what s**t he wanted to tow with him. Someone might have called his decision rash but, really, he didn't have high standards: a decent place with a nice (hot) roommate? Good deal. Definitely better than having his mom over his shoulder all the time.

"Just have one question: what're you on?" It wasn't an accusatory tone, but a curious one. Brendan wanted to be informed rather than judgmental, and her glazed eyes still hadn't quite left him from last night.

"Next week is fine. I'll give you a key before you leave today so you can start moving in even if I am not here." She blew on her coffee, steam rising up from it. The trail of condensation swirled and followed the stream of air before resuming it's rising action, unperturbed. Meanwhile, Gwen looked at the liquid in her mug as small ripples revealed the tremors in her hands.

Standing up, she pulled the robe around her with one hand while the other took care of her drink. Brendan's question hung in the air between them. "I'll let the landlord know that there will be another tenant here starting next week, that way there won't be any surprises or problems." She offered him a smile before heading out of the kitchen. The question left unacknowledged.

PErfect spot to end it I think!
