Seren was jogging back from the store, her groceries carefully packed into her backpack, so that nothing would get crushed. She had decided to save time, and combine her jog and her shopping... Run over, shop, run back. She got a few weird looks in the store for her jogging gear, but she figured if people had issues with it, they could stuff it. They ignored women running down the street in tight pants and tops all the time, it wasn't that different.

She sighed, and started muttering as she went "Damn assholes, charging so much for chicken breasts. Managed to get a fair few with my coupon, yes, but ugh why do they charge so much for basic food? I'm not buying it pre-made! But at least I can make a good batch of my chicken. Dinner for several nights, and lunches too. Chicken is such a perfect, versatile meat..."

She was so used to talking to herself, living alone as she did, that she didn't notice that others could hear her, or were giving her weird looks for this little external monologue. She just was lost in her thoughts, and she wanted to get home and get cooking. She turned the corner as she muttered, and glanced at a spot she occasionally saw kitties hanging out. She hoped to spot some today. Some were friendly to her, occasionally, and it was the closest she really got to having a pet of her own.

Sometimes 'talking' with the normie cats could be useful to Tiberius, so he made his rounds to see if the strays that weren't unfriendly to him had any news...and to teach the ones that did have beef got what they deserved on the wrong end of his claws.

He was absolutely ready when the jogging weirdo came by, slowing as she scanned for feline form; Tiberius was sprawled out and sunning himself on his side, chewing idly at one paw like he didn't have a care in the world.

As the gal came closer, he squinched his eyes the way cats sometimes did - it would make her want to come in, to pet him. The normies had mentioned she sometimes had food, always offered pets, and was generally a Sucker.

Tiberious lived for suckers.

"Mroooowlll." He said, tail thumping slowly against the warm concrete where it kissed the grass 'beautification' rectangle. Is that-- ohh, I smell food. Absolutely there is food on this broad! Chicken, if I'm not mistaken...but could just be from the store... Grocery stores tended to cover humans in gauzy layers of scents that could mean an actual purchase...or just that said human had waffled stupidly in a particular section for a long time. Tibby's sensitive nose quivered as he scented the air again; he really hoped she had food and would hand it over!

To that end, he focused on her and half rolled, offering up the cinnamon fluffs of his belly; one fore-paw curled against his fluffy chest, the other reaching towards her invitingly. Take the bait, sister.

Seren's eyes lit up, behind her glasses, when she saw the large, fluffy cat laying on the cement 'bench' or whatever the ******** the designers behind this particular stretch of sidewalk were thinking it was supposed to be. If it was a bench, it was not designed to encourage HUMANS to sit for long, with it's weird corners and s**t, but it was perfect for the kitties. The 'seats' were more like cubbies, with the corners, and when the sun hit it right, it got nice and warm. Cats seemed to LOVE it, and Seren loved to meet the kitties, or greet 'old friends' when they were there.

She slowed down from her jog, not wanting to scare the newcomer, and moved over, carefully. "Hey there, handsome..." She murmured, softly, approaching with care. She noticed the belly bait, and looked at it longingly, especially with the paw stretched out.

She wasn't stupid, however, and until she knew the temperament of a new cat friend, she wasn't going to risk the belly. Instead, she held out her fingers to him, putting them in reach of his nose, so he could sniff her, and see how he responded. Some of the cats who hung out here were friendly, some were shy, and she didn't want to make them feel they were unsafe here. "Wish I'd seen you earlier, big boy. I had some leftover lunch with me, I'd have shared... Heck, I'd share my dinner, but by the time I get home, get the chicken cooked, and come back, you'd be long gone. Coat like this, clean as it is... Your people will probably miss you." She said it all in that gentle voice used with an animal who one didn't know well, under the view that the handsome cat would understand the tone, even though he'd clearly not understand the words.

She gave a soft chuckle, then, and added "It's tempting to just pick you up and bring you home, feed you, and then call your humans, if you have tags, and tell them I found you. But that might be bad of me, and who knows how you'd react."

Bingo. She was in - hook, line, and sinker.

Tiberius watched her approach, ears pricked forward and eyes wide and guiless as the full moon. She was smart, coming in slowly to prove she was friendly, and not just reaching for his exposed tummy fluff like some meat-handed moron. Points were also awarded for calling him handsome, for he was incredibly handsome and it was good of her to appreciate it.

With quivering whiskers, the twenty-two pound feline stretched his head so he could sniff at her fingers delicately, then rubbed his cheek against her hand in the time-honoured 'you good people, you my people now' cat show of ownership. He remained on his back, contorting a bit to pull off this feat, worming his puffs around on the cement gracelessly as she spoke about taking him home for dinner.

Oh. Was that on the offering? Tiberius rolled onto his feet and shoved himself into her arms the way cats were wont too, nosing up at her chin and cheek, rubbing his own against her face and purring like a jet engine. "Mrooowrl." He said, bunting her chin gently with the soft top of his head before climbing onto her shoulders like she was a pirate and he a bird. "Mroooooooowwwwwwww?"

Tiberius put his nose in her ear and sniffed delicately.

Oh he was definitely one of the friendly ones, with the head shove, and she just wanted to scoop him up and squooshe him and murmur nonsense in his ear, because she just thought he was so utterly adorable. However, she contented herself with reaching up to rub his soft ears, scritching RIGHT behind them. She considered this one of her signature befriending moves, because she'd yet to meet a cat who did not, in fact, like having gentle scritches behind the ears.

When he suddenly was in her arms, though, she almost fell over in surprise. She managed to prevent that, and instead carefully wrapped her arms around him, supporting the Large lad she was suddenly holding. "Well! You are a friendly fellow, aren't you?" She said, chuckling and snuggling him close, while concern flashed in her eyes.

"Hmmm, maybe I should bring you home, then. Someone might try to steal you, and I would feel terrible if I heard of such a thing. Hmm. Yes." She carefully turned, not wanting to risk startling him, and began to walk to her apartment building, her fingers continuing to rub him as she went. "I'm glad this is a pet friendly building, even if I ended up in one by chance... No one will report a strange cat, and if anyone asks, I'll tell them the truth... You seem to be lost. I'll have to check for a collar and tags when we're upstairs."

Getting them through the door turned out to be a challenge, because she didn't want to drop the cat, and he was Not Light Weight. The elevator was easier (there was no way in hell she was climbing up to the seventh floor, carrying a backpack full of food AND a twenty plus pound fluffmeister, it was not happening...) and then they got to her apartment door. That turned out to be even MORE challenging, getting it unlocked, without dropping him. Finally, finally she was inside her home, and she dropped her keys in her little bowl, then carried the cat over to her couch. "Here... relax right there, fluffman, and let me get my food put away, and start the chicken. Then I'll see about a collar..."

When his new sucker went right for the money spot, Tiberius knew he had her in the cusp of his soft chocolate toebeans. Yep, she was his now, no matter what she might have thought, and he was gonna make himself right at home with her for as long as she'd put up with him doing so - or until he was needed by his Team. Mistress was, after all, Mistress.

Tiberius purred louder and rubbed his head against the girl's ear and shoulder again. Yes. Yes, take me home. Gimme some food, some pets. It's totally fine...absolutely terrible if someone tried to steal me, yep. And then he was being carried, with his human conveyance being super-careful to not jostle him unduly; she kept talking the way humans did - reasoning out that what she was doing was a good thing. Tibby didn't care, he just spread his toes to knead at her shoulder and kept up the purring as encouragement while not making it too hard to cart his heft around.

He watched with intertest the path they took; enjoying thoroughly the elevator ride and looking around at mechanics of the machine. I could make this a hundred times better...but I won't. Using hands would be necessary and hands meant big aura. Big aura meant danger. Tibs was no idiot - the elevator would remain untouched by Mauvian paws.

Once he was set down inside the apartment, Tiberius looked about. She'd set him on the couch to relax, but he was having none of it. Instead, the massive fluffball got up to follow her into the kitchen, talking in a loud feline voice the whole time as though the word 'chicken' had been the magic key to starting the kitty opera. At least when he was figure-eighting her ankles and yelling meow up at her it showed off a glint of strange collar, buried in all the fluffs.

"Mroooowwwwrlllll~" Chiiiickeeeeen~

Seren had very much enjoyed the entire walk home, honestly, snuggling the heavy but not fat kitty, and the way he snuggled back. Kitties made her day better every time, as did puppers and other friendly animals. She just had a very special place in her heart for the kitties she met. She had always wanted a kitty of her own, and while she couldn't afford to support one, she would care for kitties that came into her purview temporarily.

She almost tripped, however, on the One Stop Kitteh Tripping Machine and Opera House. "Ah! Careful, handsome man! If I break my neck, none of us will enjoy the long term results!" She put her backpack on the counter, and happened to notice the collar as she did so.

She considered, then decided to handle that in a bit. She had COLD FOOD to put away and chicken to cook. Once that was in the oven, she could examine the collar and see about finding his owner.

She focused on getting the cold stuff in, then tossed the chicken with herbs and spices, and some oil, then gently puts it the fridge to marinate. Then the rest of the food got put away. Once that was ready, she set the oven to heat, and prepped a roasting pan. She waited a few more minutes, then once the oven dinged, she put the chicken on the pan and set it to cook, then went and scooped the kitty up. She moved over to a chair and settled him in her lap, before giving him ear scritches again, while using her other hand to fish the collar out and examine it. "Tiberius... What a serious name for such a sweet boy... And a number. Printed on a thumb drive...?"

She studied the drive thoughtfully, and decided to plug it into her PC. She knew some people did that with pets who had special health needs, and wanted it available just in case. She checked the data, not noticing that something was installing. "Mmm more contact info... and it looks like the chicken is safe, and nothing to worry about. Good. I'll finish cooking the chicken, then, feed us both and THEN call your people. Call me selfish, but... I want more time with you, big boy. I never get enough kitty time."

This girl. Was a grade-A, goddess class, bona-fide USDA prime cut sucker.

Tiberius was in love. Dames like Seren didn't come along near often enough. They weren't good for his Mistress' purposes, but for his personal purposes? She was absolute perfection. In a shiny red bow.

Every time she spoke to him, Tiberius had an answering meow or trill - he knew humans ate that s**t up, and since he couldn't actually talk to her...it was the next best thing. He wanted to get up on the counter and make demands, but because he was playing a Part, he did not; instead, the most he did was stand up on his back legs and put his paws up on the countertops, stretching cutely and making mrring sounds while Seren worked.

When she was finally ready to pay him the attention again that he sorely deserved, Tibby allowed her to fuss with his collar, head butting her hands a few times for good measure as though to say 'More pets! More love!' like the greedy beast he was. She missed the sly, pleased expression that fell across the feline's face when she put his custom thumb drive into her PC. You're mine now, toots. Bank account and soul. My Meoware will do it's job.

To let Seren know that he approved of her idea, Tiberius bunted her chin with the top of his head and purred like a motorcycle. He knew that Eion Risk was the contact, and Eion was going to be a pissy b***h at having to 'waste' his 3 hour civilian glamour to come fetch him - but it was gonna be worth it. Take your time girlie, I got all day if you want. You give good scritch.

Tiberious flopped into her lap once more and offered his stomach, stretching out fully and purring up a storm. She could touch the cinnamon fluffs in exchange for chicken. Oh yes.

Seren couldn't help the smiles, at the way he replied to her talking, as if he actually understood and was conversing with her. And wouldn't that be a dream come true? A cat that could talk to you? She gave a slight, wistful sigh at the thought, but didn't say anything, since it wouldn't do her any good to do so. Dreams of the impossible were just that... Dreams.

She left the thumb drive in the USB port for the time being, because there were more important things to worry about then disconnecting it. Thinks like a wonderfully fluffy belly that was currently being offered up to her like a rare treasure. "Oooo so soft and fluffy!" She softly coo'd out, her eyes wide with happiness, a lock of her extremely long hair coming loose to dangle near Tiberius.

She reached down, supporting him with one hand, and using the other to give long, slow strokes of that pretty fur, her nails just lightly brushing the delicate, soft skin of his belly, not wanting to hurt him. "I wish I could afford to keep a kitty long term... Having a purring friend at home, to snuggle and love, would make this lonely apartment much happier. And I would never have to worry about a kitty hurting me, not really." She murmured softly, not really worried about confiding in a cat.

After all, he was a cat, who could he tell? Humans couldn't speak cat, and he didn't understand. She got lost in cuddling the kitty, eventually scooping him up and going over to her couch, where she could lounge with his Imperial Fluffiness draped across her, and give him all the attention he so clearly wanted and deserved. She kept the cuddling going the entire time the chicken was cooking, in fact, and only getting up with a sigh once it did.

"Alright, Tiberius. Let me go get this chicken served up, and we can both eat." She set him on the couch, to let him lounge, and, self consciously, she pressed a kiss to his soft forehead, before going to serve the food.

Tibby gently reached for her hair and pulled it to his face to sniff and lick as though he were Just an Ordinary Cat. The Mauvian didn't do it much, but a little bit was fine - human hair did have a fine feel across the papillae of the tongue, after all, and a nice cronch under the teeth too; he just didn't indulge that often because there were better things to lick and chew.

For not having owned a cat of her own, Seren avoided the potential bad of having meat-hands. She petted really well and Tibby was perfectly happy to encourage her to keep doing so, even going so far as to softly put his massive, fluffy paws on her mouth and nose in a cute manner. Or rather, she'd probably see it that way, mostly he was trying to shush her about a kitty not hurting her since cats were just as likely to do that as any. Though naw, you right girlie. We're less assholes than humans. Get a cat. Even when we're bad, we're good.

Playing his part wasn't hard: Tiberius really did love people. A lot. So snuggling with Seren was both a self-centered ploy to get chicken, and also just something he wanted to do because he enjoyed spending time with the human woman. He was happy enough being a fuzzy lump lording over Seren that when she finally mentioned the chicken being ready and smooched his forehead, he made a plaintive meow because he didn't want to move, then another perkier one as he bounded off Seren and jogged his fluffy self into the kitchen with his tail up and proud to await the aforementioned chicken.

And once in the kitchen?

The Feed Me yelling began. A glorious song of woe, starvation, and need.

Seren giggled happily at the hair nomming, because it was ridiculously cute, then gently pulled her hair free. "Probably not healthy for you, handsome... I dye that regularly, and the chems probably are Not Kitty Friendly." She tucked it behind her ear, but her eyes were soft with happiness.

All in all, this was one her better days, in her head... Nothing particularly had gone wrong, she'd gotten some good grades back on recent quizzes, the deals at the store had been EXCELLENT, and now this handsome Tiberius had made his way into her life, even if it would be temporary.

The paws to her nose and lips, though, had her laughing out loud, her blue eyes crinkling behind her glasses in her delight at the ridiculously cute maneuver. "More pets, less talk, is that it? Sorry, sweets, not talking won't make me grow another hand to adore you with."

She had the oven open, and she glanced back at the yelling, another laugh escaping her lips. "I'm working on it, I promise, you silly boy. It'll be ready soon. Don't burn yourself, either, trying to get it." She grabbed her cheap a** oven mitts, and pulled it out, shutting the oven door with her foot, and began to serve as fast as she could, before setting a plate with his food on the table. Before she served herself, even.

That song had to be answered, after all.

Maybe she wouldn't grow another hand, but perhaps he could purrsuade her to allow him to augment her with another limb? That would give her the ability to adore him at an increased rate! It would also disfigure her, but hey! Sacrifices had to be made in the purrsuit of feline obeisance, right?

Right.

Despite the rising Song, Tiberius did not seem inclined to get too close to the potential danger. He danced just out of harm's way while waiting for Seren to get with the program and feed him.

It was noted that he was served first, and on the table! Tiberius hopped up into a chair and put his front paws on the table, leaning forward to delicately sniff at the food put before him before snatching a piece and shaking his head the way cats do as he hunkered to chew it. Ah yes, he was quite pleased, it was delicious - a rumbling purr kicked up again, the massive feline daintily eating whilst Seren continued serving herself; granted, Tibby was happy to share his mealtime with her, so he wasn't wolfing the offering down like he might normally, but rather eating slowly.

And making the 'nyam nyam nyam' sound as he turned his head side to side and chewed.

Seren giggled softly as he ate, the sounds he was making filling her heart with glee. She finished serving her own food, and reached over to give him a rub between the ears, before settling herself down besides him with her own plate. She began to eat with quiet care, but also speed, making sure to not make a mess.

Between bites, she gave him more rubs, or little scritches, making sure the big, gorgeous floofyboy got plenty of love and adoration. She was watching him, her blue eyes soft with happiness.

It did not take her long to finish her own meal... She had served herself a portion not THAT much bigger then she gave the cat... And she stood, and went to get herself a cup of water, and a bowl for him. "Thirsty, Tiberius?" She asked, as she set it next to him.

She glanced at the time, though, wondering how long would be 'too long' as a responsible cat-finder before contacting his humans.

Each time she touched him, he stopped eating so that he could lick his chops at her and squinch his eyes in appreciation; he also pushed up into her hand as well - it was important to show affection for someone that was feeding you from their table so freely.

Tiberius made sure he finished his food before she did and thought about begging for more, but figured it was a good idea to settle in and play the long game. Behave this time, there will be more time later to get more... The massive fluffball didn't beg for food, just sat neatly and groomed himself until she brought him water, which he lapped neatly. Mostly he just wanted to sit in her lap though, to rub his head against her chin and show her just how cute and sweet he was.

She'll call soon, I can tell. She's too do-gooder to keep putting it off. I guess it's fine this time. "Myaaaaaaa." He bounced out of Seren's lap and stretched massively. Another sound was directed her way, a trill this time as he returned to slowly wind around her feet and rub against her legs some more as though to say 'it's okay, do the thing'.

His appreciative reactions were enough to make the smile on her face go bright with adoration and joy. He was such a wonderful, sweet kitty and she just wanted to love and cuddle him forever. It was a pity she had to send him home, that she could not afford a wonderful baby like him right now.

Seren sighed as she finished her water, and was about to move back from the table, when he jumped down and was winding around her feet. She looked down at him and finally said "You want your people don't you, Tiberius honey? Alright, I'll call."

She stood and gently scooped him up, then carried him over to the computer, and sat in front of it, using the data from his drive to call. She settled into the chair as her cellphone rang, leaning back to give Tiberius room to snuggle in her lap, so she could pet him while she waited.

The phone went to voicemail, which she expected since she would be an unknown number for the owner, and she simply said "My name is Seren... I found your cat Tiberius while I was out today, and he's at my apartment. I checked his little collar drive, for health worries, and have fed him. Here's my address... Feel free to come over to get him, or call me back and we can arrange something else. Thank you."

She hung up, and carefully disconnected the drive, before reattaching it, and sighing. She did not want to send Tiberius home... But she was a responsible person.
