Leon Gormain's tail had been going nearly a mile a minute. He was actually pretty excited about learning, it was something new, and he got to be around all kinds of other kids! The boys pale, icy blue gaze took in all the sites, and namely his surroundings. The Grimm boys nose twitched, not use to all the different sites and sounds yet. Sighing a tad dramatically, his feet swung back and forth as he sat in his chair, only half minding his instructors. Just as he thought he'd burst from boredom, he heard something about finding someone to pair up with for their assignment. It was a simple one, they had to practice with clocks, and telling time. Not that Gormain really knew himself, nor had he really been listening to the explanation all that closely. Sliding out of his chair, he gave a stretch before arching up on his tip toes as he places his clawed paw just above his eyes as if it would help him see better. "Anyone want to partner up~?" He asked, a wide grin spreading over the Grimm's features. In a way, it was a toothy, rather childish manner about it. Gormain stumbled forward a tad from balancing on his tiptoes, playing it off as he moved forward a little. He liked getting attention..even if that meant seeking it out from another he didn't know. The young energetic boy's tail swished behind him enthusiastically somewhat. Naisiki Jin always ended up taking a seat near the back of the class and trying not to make too much of a spectacle of herself. She always preferred to be out of the limelight and let other people shine. So most classes she sat there and took notes, focusing on what was being taught. It didn't help her make friends but she figured she had a lot of years ahead of her to truly work out how to be social in her own way. Unfortunately, the teacher just had to say the dreaded words. She hated assignments where they had to pair up. Still, an assignment was an assignment and she reached down and gathered up her whiteboard since a lot of the students didn't understand sign. She noticed a Grimm who was asking about partners but no one seemed to be stepping foward. So she quickly wrote down a response and held it up to him. "I wouldn't mind being your partner if you still need one" was what was written. Leon Gormain had just started to feel dejected..the more he tried. Everyone had someone who wanted to pair up. He hadn't made any friends yet... the boys shoulders had started to sag as his enthusiasm was dampened. Nobody liked to get picked last. Just as he started to wonder if perhaps people thought he was weird or something....the boy's attention turned to the other in the far backside of the room. During rollcall... he thought he'd seen the other hold up a sign rather then annoyance their name to the class. His eyes squinted, trying to make it out from where he was standing. The young Grimm padded closer...leaning in as he nibbled on his bottom lip. Realization for what the meaning behind the words occurred to him as his tail began to wag behind him excitedly. "Yes, I would really like that! Thank you!!" They looked beyond grateful, Gormain even sighed in relief. "I dunno a lot about clocks..do you?" He asked as he dragged a chair over, sitting on it backwards so he leaned over the back of the chair as he examined the other curiously. Naisiki Jin frowned when and wondered if she had written a little too small. After all not everyone had good eyesight, or well maybe she should have gotten a little closer with her board. Still what she had written had come across and accepted. She didn't think any one had ever been that happy to be paired with her before, but then she supposed no one like to be the last one not paired up. She liked it better when teachers assigned pairs. "It's no problem. I know a little bit about clocks. Enough for the assignment I think. I am better with digital ones but analog shouldn't pose too much of a problem I think." She wrote and waited for her partner to read what she had said. "I'm Jin by the way" she actually spoke out loud in a tiny soft voice. She wasn't sure on her partners reading speed and didn't want to erase the board yet. Plus introductions were important. You should know who you were working with. Leon Gormain tilted his head as he decided what to make of the other. He hadn't seen them before until now, she seemed nice enough of course. In all fairness, he was still mastering the finer points of reading. It wasn't Jin's fault he had struggled to make out the text on her white board. Then again, it had been easier when he got closer to her! Gormain didn't really mind finding a partner..or being assigned one. He was just glad she'd offered..rather than having to turn to the teacher to finish pairing them off. For what it was worth, he was happy, and wondered what she would be like. Watching her write...he wondered if she maybe didn't have the ability to speak? She clearly seemed to be able to hear him. Gormain didn't have a lot of experience with kids, but he knew what she was doing wasn't particularly typical. His eyes scanned the words, trying to sound out at least a few of the words, before he smiled in understanding. "I don't really know how to read analog ones... but we'll just have to give it our all~" He added, tail swishing enthusiastically. "Jin?" He repeated, to make sure he heard her. His ears twitched, her voice was so soft. "Hihi! I'm Gormain nice to meet you." The Grimm boy added with a bright smile, more readily able to respond to her as she was talking with him. Naisiki Jin nodded when he asked to make sure he had heard her name correctly. She only really liked talking around family, mostly due to her shyness but it seemed like talking was easier for her partner and on such an assignment writing down everything she wanted to say in time to be effective might just be too much, especially if he wasn’t a strong reader yet. Still he didn’t seem to mind the level that she talked in and he seemed energetic enough that she could just imagine she was talking to her sister Sphinx if things got too overwhelming. After all it was fine that he wasn’t a strong reader yet, she believed that everyone should be allowed to learn at the pace that made them most comfortable. “I took a lot of notes when they were talking. So maybe those can help us” she replied still in that soft quiet voice after taking a few deep breaths to steady herself. She wasn’t sure she had it in her to be loud outside of being angry at someone, which happened so rarely she wasn’t even sure she could be loud then. It was then she realized that she had forgotten to respond to his telling her his name. Oh dear, this is why she didn’t socialize outside of family. She was kind of glad it was a rather large family otherwise she would be… ah what was the word again? Yes, it was wallflower. “It’s a pleasure to meet you too Gormain,” she wrote on her whiteboard still a bit red. She made sure to draw little-excited marks and smiley faces to make up for it to show she was pleased. Leon Gormain felt lucky, the other was really easy to talk with, despite her soft voice. Of course the youngest would have tried his best if she only wanted to write to him. It made him want to work on his writing, so she wouldn't have to talk to him unless she wanted to. Even if they had just met...it showed him how important reading could really be. Having motivation to knuckle down in classes was kind of weird. All he really wanted was to be able to get through school so he could try and open his own adoption agency for familiars! He wanted to take care of unwanted animals, so they had a loving home. Yet it seemed in order to accomplish this, he needed to get better in his studies. "I didn't..." The Grimm sounded a tad sheepish as he smiled. "But we will work through it together! I know we can do this." He sat up, sitting on his knees in his chair as he puffed up. Leaning in he studied the work sheet, his wobbly hand writing scribbled on the paper to put his name, the G was backwards. Tapping a clawed digit on the desk he looked thoughtful. He hadn't been upset she didn't respond, he had shared his name and so had she. That was good enough for him. Blinking, he looked a the words...running his finger under the words as he sounded it out. "Ohh! It's okay!" He saw how embarressed she was. He reached over and nudged at her pen...asking for permission before he drew his own smiley face, adding floppy ears onto it and a big silly smile of a poorly drawn Grimm trying to give her a thumbs up. Returning the pen, he hummed as he leaned in to study the work sheet. "In my family...we have sooooo many siblings...My Daddys and Momma adopted me, and they have children from their magic too. We even have a baphomet sister!" Gormain grinned. "Do you have lotsa family too?" He asked. Naisiki “Not everyone takes notes, it can be a bit tedious and sometimes you can’t even go fast enough to write it down but if I have a bad day I like notes to look back on” She replied and pulled out said notes. For as young as she was there was a sense of elegance to her letters. She had to practice learning how to spell and how to get across what she wanted due to her lack of talking. Only problem was sometimes she wrote to small. Hopefully the notes would be legible enough for Gormain. “Sounds like a plan though, working together.” She added after she recovered from her embarrassment but tellingly left the white board the way it was and wrote her own name next to her partner’s on the sheet. “its pretty big. Mommy and dad adopted layren and then had Leto and Tsukiyomi. Then daddy talked them into imbuing with him so then there was my siblings and me. Daddy also had three kids before me. Then I have a couple cousins from mommy and Daddy’s boss and coworkers are all pretty close with us so we count them as family too. So yes it’s pretty big. Sometimes though it’s hard to get attention from everyone since they all seem to be really busy” Of course, she couldn’t go into elaborating what she meant by really busy. Most people wouldn’t call her daddy or her ‘uncles’ and ‘cousins’ good role models because they weren’t lawful but she didn’t really care. Everyone cared for each other and were there when other people who were supposed to be ‘lawful’ weren’t. "still I like having them and knowing they are there none the less" she finished up. Leon Gormain appreciated her retort, it put the young Grimm at ease as he sighed softly. In reality, it put him at ease to hear her say as such. That was part of the problem, trying to focus on writing, and listening at the same time was hard. Just because he wasn't as put together as Jin...didn't make him bad at school. He just had learned at a different pace than many of his siblings. Today he had learned that despite this, there were still ways to make friends, and everything would be ok. Everyone had different strengths, and the way they went about life was obviously going to be different depending. Gormain had to admit, he was still in awe of her ability to write so easily, and seemingly read. Maybe he would ask his parents to help him with his studies..or one of his siblings like Milo. Even with the other's embarrassment, he didn't call extra attention to the fact. He was just happy to learn they could so easily work together. Gormain waited for her to be ready, watching how she held her pencil and began to write. "I have..." He began counting. "My brothers are Milo and Amon. There there's Kaia and Kahlua." Kahlua and Amon, like himself, were adopted. He knew his parents planned to make more stones when the kids got older. Humming happily, he leaned in to study the clocks. His eyes occasionally glanced at Jin..looking to her for guidance when he got confused. By the time they were done, he was surprised at how easy it was to read both digital, and analog clocks. He couldn't help his delight, he leaned in to clasp their shoulder. "I'd hug you but I don't want to upset you! Cuz friends don't upset their friends. So...Thanks!" Gormain smiled happily. Naisiki Her main parents she lived with where a litch and a fallen so she had gotten used to reading minute changes in body language. So she could tell or at least she was pretty sure what she had said about learning had eased something in Gormain. She wondered if he had trouble before when it came to notes or reading. It reminded her of what her dad often told her. When he had been in his junior years he had gotten into a fight with his best friend and the damage his best friend inflicted on him had damaged the hearing in one of his ears and hurt his head badly. It had set him back in school a year and of course, some of the kids had teased him for being older than them. It's why her all three of her parents taught her not to judge the speed someone learned from. She herself struggled a bit in chemistry and science after all. Mostly because her own household was very art based. Her dad was working on being a pretty well-known composer and her mom was an actress. She grew up listening to them read scripts or write music. "I always liked big families so I am happy you have one, but that could just be from the fact I am part Geist and fallen" she mentioned. " they sound lovely." However, talking wouldn't get the assignment done and she turned to look over her notes and go over and help her friend. They managed to get it done and learn a few things in the process. She would still prefer digital watches but analog wasn't so scary anymore. She turned towards gormain when he mentioned thanks and hugs and wrote 'your welcome' on her whiteboard before nibbling on her lower lip and deciding a hug wouldn't upset her so she hugged him back instead.
